This is a man who has tried to get brutal murderers released early because fellow ministers told him they'd been "saved" in prison. One of them then killed again, the other (who raped a woman repeatedly and then ran over her several times with his car) Huckabee had to back down on. But his own son can't even be charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty? Or even investigated over it?

yeah right like Huckabee or any sane govenor would tell the guy that he was firing because he "couldn't get him to help with his son when he had that problem--that smells like B.S. to me
It does sound like his son committed euthanasia for the dog without benefit of a gun--not a pretty picture but trying to blow this thing up is pretty ridiculous

My concerns about Mike Huckabee center on his appalling lack of judgment not only involving his son but also with his decisions regarding commuting sentences and offering clemency to convicted rapists and murderers. He often made those decisions without any review of their records and backgrounds. His leaning on the Parole Board on behalf of Wayne Dumond is only his most visible example of poor judgment. Repeatedly, at the request of soft-hearted pastors and personal friends, he would release dangerous criminals who would again inflict violence and death on their victims.

I can respect Christian charity but we are also called to be as wise as serpeants. Being a Christian parent means making hard decisions so that are children will be good citizens and salt and light to the world.

We all know what happens when parents continue to "protect" their kids and make excuses for them! Just last April, David Huckabee was arrestedfor trying to board a plane with a Glock in his pocket. OOPS. Another little mistake. The boy just makes a lot of them.

"...hanging the dog by his neck, slitting his throat and stoning him to death."

"Camp officials, who did not report the crime to law enforcement officials, have admitted that the act did occur and have fired the boys from their positions. However, no charges have been filed against the young men."

Don't forget this is the kid who attempted to smuggle a *loaded* Glock through airport security and in these days of heightened terror alerts, was given a suspended sentence and had to pay $100 in lieu of 10 days' community service. Think you or I could get that deal?

I agree with what was said, though, about why were the state police brought in to investigate an alleged misdemenor? Even if it did happen, though I don't condone what they did (I am from Arkansas, and I voted to make animal cruelty a felony in Arkansas. It sadly did not pass, and is still considered a misdemenor), it was not grounds to investigate a minor for a misdemenor crime. I say, though I am a democrat, this should not be held against him. Attack his record in office, not his minor sons crimes and alleged "cover-up" that shouldn't have been an issue in the first place.

Often the children of the priveleged and powerful feel they are entitled. The parents are not always responsible for those feelings. HOWEVER, when a parent takes punitive action against others for their childrens' misdeeds rather than holding their child accountable for those misdeeds, the parents' integrity is questionable. Huckabee has a nasty little mean streak that I noted during his debates. More importantly, I can't help but question the motives of a churchleader/politician as the ethos of these two occupations are diametrically opposed, . Although for some he is likable, I see him as deficient and lacking..

Typical coverup tactics exploited by our political leaders - that's why we all got to be compassionate anarchists!

  • Posted By: jim158 @ 12/17/2007 10:34:57 AM

Huckabee used his off ice to keep his son from facing the law and possible getting the help he needs. It shows he will break the law to hide things from the public, last thing this country needs is another sp called MAN OF GOD who lies and breaks the lawin the White House. Look at the peoples who's jobs where lost so Huckabee could hide his sons crimes, Ask them if he should be our next President!

    To oldheathen:
I'm definitely not a Republican or apologist for either Huckabee, but children can be born sociopaths or become mentally ill without experiencing cruelty or abuse themselves. It's irresponsible and unfair to automatically blame parents for the actions of their offspring. We don't know enough about the pathology of mental illness to make that kind of blanket statement.

Everything I've read suggests that the best evidence is that such amorality is the result of a combination of genetic AND environmental factors. How could Huckabee interfere with bringing someone who is demonstrably a violent and dangerous person to justice? He was sworn, after all, to uphold the laws of his state. His soon needed help to prevent his violence from escalating. Instead Huckabee considered his own political ambitions rather than the safety of others.

his political reputation, placing it ahead of the well-being of his son and the safety of others.
