We are sending mixed messages... Did Michael Vick go to prison for animal cruelity!!! What is wrong with our society?? Mr. Huuckabee wantsto be on both sides and claim that he is a "christian".
HE NEEDES TO LISTEN TO MITT ROMNEY" S MESSAGE LOUD AND CLEAR.

As a nurse, mother, animal lover and citizen I am appalled that this incident ever occured but am especially troubled that it was "covered" up. If my children had ever done anything so violent I would have them in therapy immediately as I too recognize that "cruelty" to animals is a sign of emotional if not psychological instability and that violence to humans may be in the future behavior of this troubled young man. What troubles me even more is Mr. Huckabees much less then honest handling of this matter. In reading other articles about him he states that his faith is very important to him, well...faith implies "honesty" "truth" and all other "virtures" listed in the bible, unfortunately it seems that Mr. Huckabee picks and chooses which "virture" he and his family will follow. Sadly the claim of being a "christian" can be used and abused....the end never justifies the means.

Don't serial killers begin by killing animals in brutal ways?

  • Posted By: dad31088 @ 12/29/2007 3:22:19 PM

isn't the killing of animals the first signs of a serial killer?

  • Posted By: shepard1 @ 12/21/2007 7:57:03 PM

I'm praying that Huckabee doesn't get the GOP nomination. We don't need any more scandals in the White House. The whole family gives me the creeps.

  • Posted By: eworthi @ 12/20/2007 2:54:44 PM

There's an awful lot of "alleges" and quotes from a fired employee in that piece. It's obvious that a minor did something wrong and regrettable resulting in a dead dog, and that the minor was in the Boy Scouts at the time, then he went on to recieve scoutings top honor, eagle scout, the rest is lost in history.

    • Posted By: happynurse63 @ 12/29/2007 2:54:13 PM

      I wouldn't call 17 exactly a minor!
In a court of law, 17 is considered a legal adult, and prosecuted as such!

2thetruth, just because some of the crazy ramblings in your bible happens to have some superficial passing resemblance to what science is discovering proves nothing. So the creator created everything? Then who created the creator? I submit that the inate human psychological need for causation and narrative created him. There has never been a greater curse released upon the world of Man than organized religion!

    • Posted By: Cheezweezel @ 12/20/2007 3:17:32 AM

With all due respect, what makes you think that an all powerful God, the creator of science in the first place, would have to be subject to his own creation? Isn't that what makes him God? Evolutionists claim that our universe was formed by a super compacted ball of energy that spun so fast it exploded to produce our earth; the only planet able to produce life. If this is true, where did the energy come from? Can science not explain itself within its own bounds?

One way or another, we don't understand how the earth was formed. But you either believe that Something (God) created something (the world) out of nothing, or you believe that NOTHING created something out of nothing. It's that simple, so take your pick.

      • Posted By: William.Demuth @ 12/20/2007 2:56:28 PM

Some of us are mature enough to understand we can't know everything, not because it is unknowable, but simply because we haven't figured it out yet. You see, that pursuit of knowledge is what has risen us up the food chain. Regrettably, Christians want simplistic answers and fear science because they realize that as time passes their archaic beliefs are fading.

Yesterdays Gods are todays cars. Todays Gods some day shall be the same, and I can't wait to be driving a Jesus coupe!

    • Posted By: Cheezweezel @ 12/20/2007 3:07:15 AM

With all due respect, what makes you think that an all powerful God, who created science in the first place would have to be subjected to science. You say that a spinning ball of compacted energy exploded and our perfectly formed earth, the only one suitable for life, came out of this chaos.

Either you believe Something (God) created something (the world) out of nothing, or you believe nothing created something out of nothing. It's that simple.

Many assumptions made. The liberal media is desperately trying to hammer Huck because they are frightened of him. They don't have Huck in their back pocket, so this crap hits the fan. Look animal cruelty is bad. Mike Huckabee has never claimed that he IS Jesus, he just claims that Jesus is an integral part of his life and belief system. AS far as what Jesus would do comments - Jesus never lied, never killed a dog (with or without mange), only came to die for our mistakes. He was, however, constantly being accused by the religious and political leaders of his day. If Jesus, himself, being God in flesh, could be so criticized, then it surprises me not that Mike Huckabee is, too. But let's try to refrain from expecting our political candidates to be sinless (or their kids, for that matter also), O.K.? As I've mentioned before, if we expect ANY of these people to be perfect we'd better hang it all up. Imperfection is a human condition. Sadly, if Jesus Christ were running for office today you guys would be all over him for being an illegitimate son of a carpenter (after all, what do carpenters know of raising kids who can lead a nation?) and accusing his mother of being a juvenile delinquent. There would be some conspiracy theory linked to why the three maji ( astrologers) obstructed justice and didn't inform the authorities as to the childs location. And the overturning the tables in the synagogue would be a display of prejudice towards our Jewish population. Have as a leader a man whose half sister Mary sat and listened to a Jewish male (Jesus) teach instead of doing womans work? Why, some of you would have demanded both of them to be stoned? Come on, folks. You've got a son's acts linked to the candidate as if Huck would condone animal shelters to start hanging animals instead of euthenizing them. You are confusing imperfection with absolute intentional and repeated immorality. Have you even read how Mr. Huckabee stood by his wife when she was diagnosed with cancer during their first year of marriage - how they remained committed to each other and their marriage even though the doctors told them they would probably never have children. They haven't come up with any dirt on Huck cheating on his wife so the libreral slanted media has to reach for his son. Insulting Arkansas? The whole sate? Hmmmm. It did not go unnoticed that after the Larry King interview, and the question about this dog incident was asked, liberal media skunks ran a spot for the cruelty prevention ad. Obvious. They are running scared because Mike Huckabee isn't owned and has been rising as a contender. Merry Christmas to all who believe...and to all a fair fight.

      • Posted By: William.Demuth @ 12/19/2007 10:37:48 AM

Your post was well toned, so I will not respond with anger, just facts.

Many Americans believe Jesus is a false God. Other Americans believe that any God in any form is absurd.

We have wanted religion left out of government and politics, but we are being forced into this fight

If you are incapable of offering support for him without turning to non existent Gods for justification your voice is irrelevant to those of us who don't believe in Christian revivalism and absolutely terrifying to those of us who don't believe in any Gods.

As for his character, I would not care if he divorced his wife while she was dying, or if his son raped the dog before killing it, all I am only concerned about his misuse of his political power for personal gain

        • Posted By: happynurse63 @ 12/29/2007 2:26:43 PM

You set some pretty LOW standards for our country's leader!
I do have some comfort in the fact that Huckabee doesn't have a snowballs chance in he!! of winning the Presidential primary's/caucuses!
I like Obama and Edwards myself!

    • Posted By: jim158 @ 12/19/2007 10:42:01 AM

Jesus born illegitimate ?? Do you know what that word means? Jesus was not born out of wedlock so he is not an illegitimate child. Marrage is a union that is blessed in the eyes of God not a paper you get from the county clerks office. If Huckabee is a true pastor he would not abandon his flock for the rich and greedy lifestyle of a politician. His job as a pastor is saving souls not forcing himself on an unwanting public through deception.

      • Posted By: William.Demuth @ 12/20/2007 3:01:17 PM

Hello? Your tripping over your dogma. Mary's husband was Joseph. Jesus's father was God. Not only does that make Christ illegitimate, it also makes Mary guilty of adultery. If God was also Mary's father, it also makes her incestuous. For a virgin, she sure gets around!

        • Posted By: bob j @ 12/21/2007 9:07:25 PM

i always figured that mary ,sneaked out and got laid on the side ,and tried to pass it off as a virgin birth to fool joeseph because she cuckolded him. not that jesus wasnt holy ,,he was ,,probably god allowed or caused this to happen to get jesus down here .

Mike Vick tortures a dog..... and people want to burn him at the stake.
David Huckabee tortures a dog.....and its that damn liberal media being desperate for dirt.

    Stop the hipocracy!!!!!

    • Posted By: debibuc @ 12/19/2007 2:05:20 PM

First of all...Mike Vick participated in torturing many dogs for sport. Secondly...Mike Vick was an adult not a 17 year old boy. There are definate differences.

      • Posted By: happynurse63 @ 12/29/2007 2:06:01 PM

animal cruelty is a precursor to violent criminal behavior!
In any court in the US, 17 is considered an ADULT!
His daddy blatantly covered it up!
        Big difference!

One of my kids once stole candy from a store (a thief), and the other one lied to a teacher (lier). Also, once my daughter killed a worm AND a grasshopper (killer). Should we call in the State Police for this? If yes, then I guess the rest of us perfect-people are free to go - Whew!

We've had an evangelical president who reports to a higher Father for the past 8 years. And look at howmessed up everything is and potentially will be. Do we really want ANOTHER "Christian Leader" in the WH so that we can continue to alienate the entire world? We think not.

You know they eat dogs in Korea, Whales and Horses in Norway and that a VERY WELL KNOWN religion has to cut the throat of live animals in order to eat it . Don't kid yourself, this happens RIght In America Every Day!

    • Posted By: hhall69 @ 12/28/2007 3:29:47 PM

Again, come back when you have a coherent thought. This makes absolutely no sense. Do you want to cut the throat of live animals? Is that why you keep bringing it up, weirdo?

My daughter killed a worm AND a grasshopper. Should we call in the State Police for this? If yes, then I guess the rest of us righteous ones are without any fault an free to go - Whew! I agree with uspp459 - as a conservative theocrat, I think the crimes committed by the children of political officials should not be investigated. Huckabee may have pardoned a rapist and yeah, he may have obstructed justice, but please remember that Bill Clinton received a blow job from his intern!

    • Posted By: cdbrown @ 12/16/2007 10:54:37 PM

It wasnt Clinton"s disgusting behaviour with the young girl, nor his lack of respect for the oval office that bothered me, but the felony perjury he committed when he lied in a sworn legal court document about it, that was disturbing.

      • Posted By: hhall69 @ 12/28/2007 3:25:09 PM

Maybe the Rebuplikkkans should have left this private bedroom matter in the bedroom, where it belonged! It's total crap! Besides, it was not a "young girl" and not "disgusting behaviour", it was normal sexual activity between two consenting adults. Sex does not have to equal "disgusting, cdbrown, unless you're soooo repressed (as you obviously are).

  • Posted By: Voice4Animals! @ 12/28/2007 2:43:31 PM

Huckabee is just another coward in politics. This is outrageous and his son should be prosectued just like Michael Vick was. What a cover up. Let's get busy and uncover this thing and put some pressure on Arkansas DA and the police department that failed this nation. His son is probably violent against women too. I bet if we dug a little deeper we could find something else here. When someone hurts an innocent animal, they WILL move on to humans. This is a known FACT! Who the hell wants Huckabee in office????? We need to move on this quickly.

  • Posted By: 2thetruth @ 12/19/2007 1:04:27 PM

For somebody who is "going down", Mike Huckabee sure is doing well in the polls. So I beg to differ that Huck doesn't have a chance. That's what they said in the beginning and look at him now. He isn't using big family money or selling out to corporate media or crooked lobbyists, either. kychow2000, Huckabee never said that he didn't believe in natural selection, he DID say that he didn't know as to the LITERAL translation of the Bible in the account of creation, because he wasn't actually there. Truth is, most creationists do NOT believe the earth was created in 6,000 literal years. Lumping all of us together, including Huckabee, is just as ignorant as claiming that all southerners eat grits. Actually, science has proven true the sequence of the creation of the universe as put down in the Bible. And what no one seems to recognize is that the Bible first introduced the idea that the Earth was a globe suspended upon nothing (Job 25:7), when the Greeks at that time believe the Earth was carried on the back of a giant turtle (not to put down Greeks, by any means). That's around 2000-1,800 B.C. I use common sense, knowing that natural selection DOES and HAS played a part in evolution of species - after all, GOD created all of the variations in the gene to begin with whether at that time they were displayed or not. The Bible does not rule out genetic mutations either. Turns out, the more people attack those who believe in the Bible as God's Word, the more intelligent us "Jesus freaks" look when your science proves us right. Huckabee made it plain (or didn't you people actually listen )that he does NOT believe every thing in the Bible is meant to be taken absolutely literally. He is quite simply, personable and comes across as genuine and unrehearsed. Meeting him personally, I say he is absolutely gracious and polite, likeable and intelligent and has a terrific sense of humor. I don't think any of you commenting in such an ugly way have actually met and talked to the man, himself. His demeanor seems absolutely unsolicitous. The issue of the slanted liberal media has been totally dropped. Probably because it has become obvious to even the most unconsious viewer(case in point see last posting). As much as I love animals this involved His son and a dog not thousands of starving children or pocketing millions in government funds. It takes a preacher's kid to know how tough it is being one. Have any of you been? Preachers know their kids grow up under unnatural pressure to be growing up under public scrutiny. Right or wrong it 's just that way. Kids grow up with issues. Preachers grow up compensating at times. But Huckabee is not the beast you make him out to be.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is not the first incident in the State of Arkansas and if elected to office, it will not stop in Washington. If Newsweek dug a little deeper in the Arkansas state system, they could find a lot more. Let's take the deal of Mr. Mike and Ms. Janet going on a diet. Who paid for the slim-fast plan to make them "holier than thou" among the Arkansas people. If we, the Arkansans, had black maids preparing our meals each night, we would lose weight too. But on the wages paid and the high prices forced on people in this state, it's a wonder we aren't eating our own "dogs". Unless you are a Tyson or Hunt, forget about making money in Arkansas. Also, concerning their "tiny" son David, should we the Huckabees be setting the example for America about obesity within the family before preaching to the flocks to diet? Again, you have an Arkansas wannabe wanting the White House to set up shop and drive this country into the ground; again.

  • Posted By: Lynx234 @ 12/23/2007 9:11:20 AM

WHY do we hold athletes-- like Michel Vick-- to a higher standard than those who would be our leaders? This is a double or quadruple standard: the black athlete goes to jail (and NO I am not defending Michael Vick, there is NO EXCUSE for cruelty!!), the sleazy white powerful suit fires a guy and squashes an investigation. Thanks to Newsweek for printing this. I call it the Michael Vick Huckabee Symdrome. SICK!!!

Wow, he has a family America can be proud of! LMAO

His son even makes Billy Carter look good!

    And you holier-than-thou
But keep supporting this idiot, cuz no matter who the Democratic nominee is, Huckabee would lose in a landslide! LOL

And you evangelicals think you're so smart!

It???s O.K if you don???t trust Mike Huckabee. He has to earn your trust like everyone else. However, I'm surprised that many of you do not want to hear the other side. This is part of trying to find the truth. Many of you would rather not know the truth and go with your initial impressions or opinions. I challenge you to try to seek the truth by learning the other side. Go to www.mikehuckabee.com and click on blogs. View the 3 videos of the Larry King interview. The 2nd video especially includes a response to the dog issue. I assume that many of you will not try to look at the other side. You would rather try to diminish the reputation of a man of character like you did to Bush.

    • Posted By: 4thebest @ 12/22/2007 3:07:19 AM

I do not know any politician that could not ace an interview whith so much at stake. And, I do not want a Christan Fundamentalist at the helm of my ship (country) , especially when the family tree is gathering leaves to cover some of its broken branches.
I believe in God. the commandments, and the Bible. I also believe in the "Anti-Christ" that fools the people with his words.

      • Posted By: hebuilds @ 12/22/2007 2:39:05 PM

It amazing to me that many of those whom call themselves" Quote" Christian but will say things like the comment above ("They don't want a religious fundamentalist running the country") Religion is OK to most of the country as long as it doen't require them to walk by a specific standard, I mean we don't want to religion to be a burden right?

I bet if you were to poll all the people of the negative comments above about throwing the book at the Huckabees and hanging them like David was said to have done to this poor animal you would find that they would mostly believe that a women should have the right to choose an abortion as well. Isn't sad that some put the life of an animal above the life of the unborn!! Search the web and you will see the magnitude of cruelty people will do upon another human being in their right to choose. How many of those whom have posted their negative comments have eaten beef, pork or chicken lately? If they were a fly on the wall when their latest meals were slaughtered they would be just as disturbed as they are about the defenseless dog (which I would agree din't deserve to die in the manner it did) that was killed.

People, as long as we are all only looking through one eye we won't see the bigger picture because we all have grown selfish and dogmatic in our views. (The reason we are all looking through "one" eye is because the log in it is blinding us from our neighbors splinter thats in their eye) We have all become so judgemental with very little knowledge of the truth.
