Comment: Wow! As my mom used to say, it seems Romney LIES like a rug.
Romney attacks Huckabee again with false and misleading claims.
Comment: Wow! As my mom used to say, it seems Romney LIES like a rug.
Comment: Romney is first a busnessman. He was the man at the 2002 Olympics. He made his millions by turning around failing businesses. That is exactly what is needed in this country. His answer in the debate that there are around 15 federal programs for reducing teen pregnancies, and he would take that number down to the 3 or 4 that are the best, is exactly what we need. We need to get rid of the dead wood. Throw out the people making money off failing programs. The federal government is way too large. Time to get a businessman in charge, not a lifelong politician who only wants more money. Sound familiar, Bush, Clinton, and the Harry Reid's of the world. I am a lifelong Republican, and I'm 100% behind Romney.
Comment: The very evangelicals whom Rush, Coulter, Hannity, Hugh Hewitt, Krauthamer, and Lowry, make fun of will NOT bail the GOP out like we did with Bush/Kerry election. Romney was able to trick a few of them, but the majority of us see right through him; we see Romney as the EQUAL of evil as Hillary and we WILL stay home or do a write-in for Huckabee. And don't count on the disenfranchised Republicans(Ron Paul supporters) to help bail out the GOP either, word out is they will vote for Ron Paul as a write-in, rather than vote for Romney.
I'd like to hear the GOP VIP elites explain how their candidate Romney will win without the Huck supporters and the Ron Paul supporters?
If even half of us do write-ins or stay home the GOP won't' win and it's as simple as that.
And all the members of Hewitt's GOP VIP list will be kneeling in disgrace at Hillary's coronation!
The army has an old marching/cadence song, it goes something like this, ??????Hah Hah Hah laughing at you??????
I think Proverbs 1:20-33 says it best, it says Wisdom herself laughs at those who won???t listen to her:
WISDOM SHOUTS IN THE STREETS
20 Wisdom shouts in the streets.
She cries out in the public square.
21 She calls to the crowds along the main street,
to those gathered in front of the city gate:
22 "How long, you simpletons,
will you insist on being simpleminded?
How long will you mockers relish your mocking?
How long will you fools hate knowledge?
23 Come and listen to my counsel.
I'll share my heart with you
and make you wise.
24 "I called you so often, but you wouldn't come.
I reached out to you, but you paid no attention.
25 You ignored my advice
and rejected the correction I offered.
26 So I will laugh when you are in trouble!
I will mock you when disaster overtakes you???
27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when disaster engulfs you like a cyclone,
and anguish and distress overwhelm you.
Welcome to Hillalry GOP VIP list,
or should I say GOP RIP
Comment: If Romney wants to get elected President, first he'll have to stop talking about what the other candidates do or don't do and concentrate on what he stands for and walk the talk.
It's one thing to claim Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world, but unless He Is his Savior what that has anything to do with anything? It worked for Bush, but the electorate won't be fooled again.
He left Massachutts in a mess to pursue the Presidency. What makes him think that he can solve the problems of the Country if he could not finish the job in Massachusetts? It's dirty politic for you. Nobody can make it in politic by being honest. The establishment won't let you. This Country was founded for the people by the people. Now it's more for the politicians by the politicians. Why bother to vote? Does it really matter who's there? In politic the truth is taboo.
Comment: You're right Gillis. A big movement for voting conscience by write-in is underway, pending the Iowa and New Hampshire votes. Of course, the rest will just stay home. But this will guarantee a win for Hillary. To me there is no difference between Hillary and Romney, both are being shoved down our throats with dollar bills. We will no longer be forced to vote for the lesser of 2 evils, not again (Bush/Kerry). As believers we're responsible for our vote but not the outcome. We will vote our conscience by write in.

Comment: Among all the negative stuff I've seen permeating the Internet, based upon hot air, I'm very happy to see some straight talk. Thank you Newsweek for publishing this story. My wife and I had already had the impression that Romney would say anything to get elected. Anything.
Comment: Rasmussen released a poll today showing that Hillary and Romney have the highest core levels of disapproval among the major candidates. That is, 47% of the electorate will vote against them. And I wonder why? Both Hillary and Romney have a real sharp edge to their personalities. Romney's edge was not so obvious until he got behind in the polls, and then went using attach ads.
Watch Romney; he is a Nixon clone. He will do anything to get elected. His campaign theme is: "TWIST AND SPIN TO WIN."
I have joined the growing numbers who distrust Romney.
With Romney's twisting and spinning, it is no wonder that the Boston Globe and the Manchester Union Leader endorsed McCain for the New Hamshire primary. And McCain is closing in on Romney in the New Hamshire race.
I had hoped that Romney would apologize for attack ads and fire those responsible for the negative approach. But I am now becoming convinced that Romney is well aware of what is going and and has encouraged it.
Romney is one Nixon clone that I will NOT vote for.
Again, I appreciate Newsweek's disclosures of Romney's tactics.
Comment: Pointing out that Huckabee pardoned 1000 criminals, including murderers isn't tactics, it's critical information that Republicans need to know.
Comment: Inardozi, nine times was excessive. I HAVE taken a very good look at the Fair Tax Plan. So have one hundred University Economics professors , who signed an open letter supporting the fair tax. So did 70 representatives in the House that signed on as co-sponsors of the legislation supporting the Fair Tax Plan. So did Dr. Laurence Kotlikoff, President of the Department of Economics at Boston University. His credentials are listed along with his various papers and books on the subject of taxation and economics on his website at http://people.bu.edu/kotlikoff/ He was the same person who discovered the theory of the 23% embedded tax in everything we buy. Twenty million dollars in research has been done to ensure that the Fair Tax plan will work and work well. What has Dr. Ron Paul got to show us? What are we supposed to do with the gold standard? Are we all supposed to walk around with gold dust in our pockets? .
Rich people don't bother me. Rich people keep the economy going. And as far as them paying less than 1% income tax under the Fair Tax Plan, how much income tax are they paying now? Rich people consume and spend more, they provide more jobs and economic growth. I don't have a problem with rich people. But I sure as heck would rather be a little less poor. As far as I see it, my little corner of the World will seem a whole lot nicer with less taxes coming out of my paycheck and a government prebate check coming to my mailbox every month. The Fair Tax plan captures the underground economy like drug trade, pornography and prostitution not to mention millions of tourists each year who trade here in the U.S.. The Fair Tax plan provides incentive for illegal immigrants to become citizens or leave the States, because they pay taxes without the benifit of a prebate check each month. A prebate check amounts to about 500.00 per month for a family of four. With the 23% embedded tax we pay on every item we purchase, we are losing almost 50% of our income to the I.R.S.
No, rich people are not our enemy, but the unscrupulous lobbyists are who take advantage of over 65,000 pages of tax code are. And as a bonus to retirees, under the Fair Tax plan, they can take advantage of a TAX HOLIDAY and withdrawl money from their 401K's WITHOUT PAYING TAX ON THE MONEY.
"The Fair Tax Book" by Neal Boortz and congressman John Linder. Take a GOOD look at the fairtax.org website and the FAQ section, thereof.
This plan wins on so many levels. Mike Huckabee has been disproportionately attacked ever since his campaign has been gaining ground. Immediate withdrawl from Iraq? Without a decisive win and stability in that part of the World there will be no such thing as security for the U.S. or her allies. I don't feel like making nice with people who strap bombs to women and children AND I'd rather not pay so many taxes. I humbly HUCKABOOM you, Inardozi - and Merry Christmas to all and to all a fair (tax) fight
Comment: Take a GOOD look at Huckabee and the FairTax - why is the FairTax studies only evaluate incomes up to $200,000? Because the effective tax rate for millionaires and billionaires under the FairTax is less than 1%. You can buy things of great value all day long without ever buying a new one. Think mansions, land, yachts, valuable coins, stamps, bullion, stocks and bonds - all of which increase his wealth and none of which is taxed. The things that are NEW that the super rich require will be provided them as perquisites by the businesses they control. Think company car, company house, company jet - all of which use our infrastructure and none of which is paid for by the entity using them. Why should Walmart pay for roads and bridges when they can get you to pay for free?
This is another attempt by the liberal media to help hand the nomination to ANYONE but Dr. Ron Paul. Much as we'd like politics to be positive, it is in fact ruled almost entirely by negatives. For instance, what's the biggest negative the Republican Party is facing in 2008? Iraq - a staggering 70% of people favor IMMEDIATE withdrawl from Iraq. Who is the only candidate that doesn't have that negative? Dr. Paul, who advocates using those trillions of dollars to secure our border (perhaps against Saudis who were 20 of the 24 terrorists in 9/11) and rebuild our crumbling infrastructure which is far more worrying than the loss of Social Security. Hm, full employment, withdrawl from Iraq and a huge boost to our economy from rebuilding our infrastructure - what Democrat wants to run against that. Hence the behavior of known liberal biased network CNN, who wants us to nominate either Huckabee or Romney - both of whose negatives are so high the copy practically writes itself!
Comment: On what planet have you heard 70 % of people want immediate withdrawl from Iraq. Maybe 70% aren't thrilled the way things have gone the whole time since 1000's were murdered in NYC, but I've never met anyone who thinks immediate withdrawl would work on any level. But the way, when are we getting out of Germany and Japan. When did WWII end?

Comment: Romney does remind me of Nixon also. No moral compass. He was a good governor, I'll give him that. But he only served one term and doesn't have all that much to brag about. But to distort Huckabee's record is unforgivable. Huckabee served for over 10 years in office. In Arkansas, every prisoner can request clemency, so Huckabee had over 8,000 to read and he read each one and only granted clemency to 10% of them if I remember correctly. Huckabee DOES have a moral compass and great ideas as well. Don't fall for Mitt's Slick wording. His ads run as false as his word.
Check out Mike Huckabee and read his position papers. You'll find out you didn't hear the true story from Slick Mitt.

Comment: Romney is a Nixon clone. He and Nixon share the sexual faithfulness to their respective wives, but lack intellectual honesty. I am deeply concerned with the negative and distorted direction of the Romney campaign. I am hoping that Romney will apologize for his distortions about others and campaign on HIS own merits. Thank you Newsweek for pointing out Romney's spin.
Comment: This just goes to show you how deceptive and misleading Romney can be. Think about it. Romney is focused more on Huckabee than on his own campaign. What does that say about Huckabee's leadership skills when even his opponents are focused on him. Join the growing grassroots support for the only authentic, articulate conservative in the race who can win--Mike Huckabee!

Comment: @ Hoops---- Mitt Romneys purposals on meth offenders never passed Huckabees did. However even if Romneys purposals had passed they would still have been 1/2 as weak as Huckabees meth laws. So what in the hell are you talking about?
Comment: Huckabee still has tougher laws than Mass. in Arkansas, so what is ur point hoops. He still ran Arkansas better than Romney in Mass. Huckabee will win and you kow it, that is why you are on his site trying to cause problems.
Comment: Huckabee is a fair and balanced human being and his efforts to govern Arkansas are noble. To say he is weak because he lowered the sentence on meth is rediculous. Compare the sentences for Mass. and his state and he still comes out on top with a tougher sentencing.
Comment: Huckabee's response to CBN: There's nothing I can do about that other than use what resources we have and to try to tell the truth and get our message out there, but ultimately what I sense is happening - people everywhere will come to me, look me in the eye and say "We are claiming Isaiah 54 for you that the weapons formed against you will not prosper." http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/290437.aspx
Governor Romney proposed an INCREASE in jail time for Meth manufacturers in an extremely liberal state with lax penalties, while Huckabee enacted a DECREASE in penalties in a state with a significant meth problem ??? how this qualifies you Huckabee getting ???tougher on methamphetamine manufacturers than Governor Romney??? is anyone???s guess. No matter how you spin it, under Huckabee penalties were REDUCED by 2 years while Romney tried to INCREASE penalties by 2 ?? - 5 years.
Comment: Additionaly, Huckabee claims the Arkansas laws re: meth as proof that he is tougher on crime than Romney. His response to Romney's slight of hand is the biggest distortion of all. Let's be clear, Huckabee inherited the tough laws. He had NOTHING to do with them. His only contribution was to weaken the laws.
TRUE: Arkansas has tougher meth laws than Mass.
FALSE: Arkansas laws are a result of Huckabee's tough stance on crime
Comment: Truth is, Huckabee is crazy. He may be a good man, he may be a nice, guy, he may be a smooth talker, but he simply has not shown good judgement. Good judgement trumps good intentions. Huckabee is filled to the brim with good intentions, but running only a 1/4 tank when it comes to good judgement. The more I've ready about his pardons, the more I am troubled. Read this if your interested in learning yourself:

If Huckabee wins the republican nomination, the democrats will get my vote next year. NEVER thought I would say that, but apart from his Christian values, he is an objectionable candidate to me in every other sense.
Comment: Huckabee reduced penalties for inmates only for good behavior. If you take time to think about it it makes sense, it provides incentive for prisoners to clean themselves up which lowers the amount of crime, and considerably reduces what we spend on the prisons. Its a good solution.Of course, there were no similar solutions coming from Romney. All we get is attack ads from Romney which only proves he is sore loser. If all Romney can do is attack Huckabee I can clearly see what kind of man he is.
Comment: I don't get it... the article reports that Romney tried to increase penalties in a state with 1 meth lab and even this baby step never made it through a liberal legislature, yet Huckabee reduced penalties for Meth between 2 to 8 yrs (reduction from 70% to 50% of 10-40 yrs) in a state facing a meth epidemic (>400 meth labs!). As for the articles, there are no quote marks in Romney's adds and nothing reported directly contradicts his paraphrasing. There is also no question Huckabee pardoned or commuted more than 1,000 convicts and that, when he left arkansas, taxes were up by $505 million and statewide spending increased from nearly $7 billion to around $16 billion. Where exactly are the "lies"?
There are attacks on Huckabee's character that go over the top -- such as reports that he gave state posts to contributors (as if anyone contributing to a candidate should be barred from public service if he wins). But these commercials are fairly mild by comparison.
Comment: I meant at least the Dems aren't spewing the disgusting lies like Romney
Comment: Please everyone get the word out about this snake Mitt Romney. I am a Republican, but I honestly can't stand this guy Romney. He's trying to buy and lie his way into the white house and it's starting to make me sick. He's now crying in two different segments in the past two days on T.V. He's now tied with Rudy G. in the latest national polls each have 20% and Huckabee with 17%. Don't let this snake Romney get elected. He is just like Obama and Hillary what's ever popular at the time is what he's going to be for, until he gets in office. At least the Dems are spewing the disgusting lies though. Romney actually reminds me of Vladimir Putin he don't care about the people or his own country just about his self intrest. Don't let this fraud get elected any Republican BUT Romney and Ron Paul!!!!!! Huckabee or Rudy G would be GREAT!!!!!!
Comment: Does anybody really expect Romney to admit the TRUTH about Huckabee's record, especially as compared with his own self-serving stands and flip flops. Expect nothing from now on from Romney(since the debates are over, and he cannot get called on his actions) except all the untruths and lies that money can buy. You know, that kind of money he made leading Bain Capital in dealings that drove American jobs off shore and while cozying up to the Chinese. Listen to Duncan Hunter on Romney--he tells it like it is, not pretty. Too bad Duncan has not gotten enough money to advertise and get the REAL word out on the Mittster. Expect Romney to keep writing checks to buy ads to bring down the ONLY Republican candidate who can win in 2008--Mike Huckabee from the great State of Arkansas. GO MIKE. PAUX ON UNTRUTHS FROM MITT. Even normally liberal Newsweek Magazine sees the truth about Hugh Hewitt's patron who desire to be elected knows no money bounds.

Even normally liberal Newsweek Magazine sees the truth about Hugh Hewitt's patron who desire to be elected knows no money bounds.
Comment: Romney strapped his family dog to the roof of their car and drove the family 12 hours to vacation. I would never trust a man who would treat man's best friend like that.
Comment: I am sure this is just Mitts way of keeping Huckabee from talking about the issues. I think we should stick to the issues. The media is pulling the same trick. I like most of Huckabees ideas and would like to here more of what he has to say. But that might get him elected.
Comment: Why should we believe what he says about another candidate who is beating him in the polls when he has not even been honest about his own record??? I lived in Massachusetts when he was governor. I am still waiting for someone to call him out on it. How about you, Newsweek?
Comment: What are you wanting him to be "called" on?
Comment: Romney is dishonest.
Comment: I honestly didn't believe that Newsweek would want to investigate this and report on facts and represent truth. Thank you Newsweek for exposing lies. This is great journalism when we, the public, can learn what we don't hear or see in those Mitt Romney commercials. We are sick of his misleading attacks on Huckabee. Why can't he just be himself and tell the people of his vision for the USA, like Huckabee is doing.. then let us vote accordingly.
Comment: Romney did, in fact, uphold his stance against meth, even though it didn't go through in Mass. However, Huckabee loosened up on it, proving liberality and love for drug dealers. Maybe he's stuck in the 60s, and maybe certain liberal news writers are too. Some people are just jealous of Romney for his resources, powerful moral principles, and solid business acumen. If the writers of this article had anything valid to say, they would have focused on something more substantive than bashing a man for effectively describing his positions and then following through. Maybe they could focus on the broken liberal fact machine, and how its gears are grinding overtime to squelch the best candidate for President: Mitt Romney.
Comment: I have been following the respective races closely and made the commment that I would not vote for a liar. Romney just lost my possible vote. Of course, by the time the election comes around I won't have anyone to vote for and will have to sit home waiting to see which liar gets elected.
Comment: Thank you for doing some REAL fact checking on all these lies that Romney is putting out on Huckabee! Mike Huckabee is AUTHENTIC!!!
Comment: http://www.massresistance.org/media/video/brainwashing.html--Mitt and marriage
Comment: Jimbotag, wake up. It's not an attempt to cloud people's opinions...unless they're clouding your opinion with all those pesky facts that get in the way.
Comment: This is just another attempt to cloud peoples opinions with tainted personal views from the writers. Your job as a newspaper writer should be to present the information and not create an opinion on the data presented. that is our job as readers.
Just to be clear Mitt Romney did not pardon people that were convicted of doing something wrong. so what if AR as a 40 year penalty and MA only 10 if the Governor will pardon the offenders the penalty is now 0 years!!!! you can't find nothing of substantial weight against Romney so you point these meritless points.
Comment: Actually, it doesn't mean they serve no time- it mostly applies to folks who already paid their fine, did their time, or what not, and are now functioning well in society. The pardon allows, for example, someone who commited a minor crime as a juvenile to get a real job and not be a drain on the tax system. It doesn't mean they get off scott-free.
Comment: That may be true in some cases, but certainly not in all. I posted this link above, take a look. This is not an article abvout someone who already did his time and is now functioning well in society.

Comment: Good for NewsWeek in uncovering these lies from Romney. They are not the first and probably won't be the last, but they only serve to make him look bad. Sure they will see to it that Huckabee dips in the polls, but once the truth behind them gets out, only Mitt will suffer.

Comment: It's a miracle of the modern media age???.no bias what-so-ever....NOT!

Comment: Candidate Romney's growing trend of twisting history and viciously spewing venom calls to mind Buzz LightYear's line from Disney's Toy Story: "You're a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity." Or how about, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."
Comment: PRESIDENT MITT ROMNEY 2008!!!! Music to any conservatives ears.
Comment: thank you justin and lori for bringing some truth and accountability to the media. i've been so sick of the msm including fox news for being so biased against mr. huckabee that i just don't watch or read it much any more. i am now considering a subscription to newsweek. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOD BLESS
