I think Jamie Lynn should have lost her job on the show! These girls on kids TV shows are a moral guide to the children that watch them, i feel it was highly irresponsible of her to get pregnant in the first place, she comes from a weathly family and they should have been doing more to educate her! 16 is far too young to be having a child and she cant been she as moral guideline for the young people that watch her, as little attention should be paid to her as possible and the father should be prosecuted as the law intended.

I think that Jamie Lynn's having a baby at this age is not out of the ordinary these days. There are many pregnant teens in america. There were over 30 pregnant girls at my school this last year and they were all from the ages 14 to 17. There is nothing that people can do to stop teen pregnancy. You can try to tell them things to prevent it but they will do it anyways. Its called peer pressure. Also....i hope that it was Jamie Lynn's choice to leave Nickeloden because i think that it would be stupid if she gets fired for getting pregnant. I would expect that all people on television that become pregnant get fired.....having a baby is normal...it was gonna happen sooner or later...people have babies...its the way life works....so everyone who has a problem with it...just needs to get over it....i do think that teen pregnancy shouldnt happen...but there is also nothing you can do about it.

This Jamie Lynn baby is just too young to have such an adult experience and responsibility. I blame much of this kind of behavior on a teen's undevelopment in general. Their brains are not fully "grown" yet and they are prone to many more mistakes and errors in judgement than adults. While noone is perfect and all people make mistakes, showing Zoey as a pregnant teen (per the show not stopping) would have been just as wrong and as magazines are in glorifying her in her new "perfect and sterile" enviroment via her new home. Nowadays, many teens cannot afford a new home, let alone a new baby. Unfortunately, many teens don't care to look at that aspect in themselves and apply it accordingly. The boyfriend, (who should be in jail)young and inexperienced himself, looks a little like the blind leading the blind. That also seems to be the case for both sets of parents here. The Spears' mom was also writing a parenting book and had to cease it's arrival on the bookshelves, no doubt due to this pregnancy. I really believe that both sides of the family seem to lack morals, at least in this area . Of course, money can't buy brains and experience and sadly, this baby seems to show that. Young teens seem to have this false sense of security and that may be why these two have acted the way they did . Obviously, there are are accidental pregnancies as well, but when you are in the spotlight with your own T.V.show............just goes to prove my point about brain development as stated above. Oh well, I was raised to not do that, I hope that I am not the only old-schooled person out here. At age 40, I am glad that I was given morals, standards, and values while growing up. Too bad for that whole pathetic and poorly-raised family!

Jiminy Cricket and Jesus H. Christ on a shingle.

Fox News just did an "On This Date" anniversary segment on just how much of a man Elvis Presley was by not dodging the Army when he was drafted, yet somehow they conveniently left out the bit how this hero started dating a 14 year old Priscilla while he wore Uncle Sam's uniform.

Not that he wouldn't get nailed to a tree today for doing that, unless, of course, his name was R. Kelly.

    Surreal?

    Hypocritical?

    They report, you decide.

Personally, and maybe it's just me, I just don't understand what all the fuss is over this "story."

After all, what Nickelodeon/The Walt Disney Kids Channel stock in trade is is soft-core kiddy-porn for America's Tween set, so the fact that one of their kids had sex and got pregnant while on the payroll should not be a real surprise to anybody.

Or are you people over there at Newsweek just not paying attention to the media landscape that you're a part of?

I very much see your point here and I agree. R. Kelly however was prosecuted for his actions. He was acquitted of course but still prosecuted nonetheless.

      Harsh, but point taken.

Yes, it is glamorizing teen pregnancy. She and baby will be O.K. given the celebrity wealth. However, we all know the hardship a pregnancy can bring to any other average teenager, let alone adults who are otherwise prepared for parenthood. I wish this drama would be taken out of the spotlight especially for young kids eyes and ears . Another Hollywood crisis. It shouldn't make national news.

Since when are teenagers "role models"??????? I'm 27 years old and well aware of how screwed up this society's views on morality have become. This is just another one to add to the list. Would you allow your child to think a typical teenager who wasn't on TV as a role model?? TV stars are NOT role models - they are just entertainers - and teenage stars are REALLY not role models. Teenagers are trying to find their identitys, who they are, while trying to survive in a cut-throat culture. Hardly role models - they're still kids themselves!! My mom was my role model. I grew up watching Full House, an actual wholesome show. "Family friendly" programming is hardly family friendly at all and Nickelodeon and Disney can pretend all they want but their shows have alot of junk in them that young kids don't need to see. I know because I have watched them!! Oh yeah, and "ABC Family"??? What a bunch of BS!! That network came up with the brillant show "Greek" about college frat life. Yeah, real family oriented......the suits that run these companies........I'm just sickened to the point that I'm speechless at this point.

Oh get real. You don't have to be a certain age to be a role model. Anyone can be a role model. A 10 year old can be a role model for a 5 year old child. No one can control who kids look up to. If you think your big brother or big sister is cool while you're growing up, they turn into a role model because you look up to them. Young girls looked up to Jamie Lynn because her character on TV was portrayed to be pretty and cool. At a young age, kids can't grasp the concept that the actors might actually be different than the characters they play on TV.

Nickelodeon is for kids....preteens even.... Most of the things we try to teach them these days is to abstain from sex, otherwise they risk running into obstacles (like pregnancy) that they arent prepared for. Jamie Lynn Spears should be put thru the ringer a bit more....her decision to have sex was her own but a poor one and now she's pregnant...her boyfriend should be charged with whatever from whatever state and she should be kicked from Nickelodeon. In my country if a male had sex with a minor (regardless of gender or consent) it is considered as 'statutory rape'. The penalty for 'statutory rape' is at least six lashings of the cane and a minimum of 20 years jail for each count. Note: anyone who is 18 years of age and below is constituted as a minor. So whomever impregnated someone like Ms JL Spears in my country will also be liable to such a penalty.
Morally; no one should be pregnant out of wedlock, more so a 16 year old.

I see a lot of parents on here voicing there disgust of how a "role model" has just let their tween girl think it's ok to have sex. I really have to point out that your child has more than likely already been exposed to sex on some level. They're already thinking about it. Honestly you all are in what your 30's or 40's? It's a completely different world out there. Our children are exposed to way more than we can even handle. Everyone's out there saying well she's only 16 she shouldn't be out there having sex let alone getting pregnant. Well guess what.... 9 and 10 year old girls are out there having sex. Why? Because something that was once considered sacred is no longer seen that way.
Of course the parents out there are now thinkging to themselves "no not my child". Yeah keep on thinking that and you'll have a 13 year old with a kid. Children are growing up way to fast now and we as parents need to keep up and maybe even try to slow it down. We need to be talking to our children at an earlier age than we ourselves were spoken to about these subjects. It's the same with drugs and alcohol as well.

As for the Spears' it's a classic case of bad parental management. It is obvious that the mother thought she could allow these two to make their own decisions and maybe at one point they did deserve that right. Being in the public spotlight is harsh though and you ten to lose your grasp on everything. Your decisions get messed up and this is where it gets you. Both girls are out of work now and it makes you wonder if they'll get back on track.
I see a lot of comments blaming Jamie Lynn Spears for bringing this subject up in your household. Maybe you should be thankful that it was a subject brought to light. Because if not, by the time you finally got around to talking to your child about it, it would have been to late.

    Jamie lynn Spears is dumb!!!!!

  • Posted By: linzam @ 01/06/2008 1:55:46 PM

My 10 yr old daughter loves the show zoey 101 on the nickelodeon network. The fact that the main star of the show she watches is pregnant upsets me to no end. Now she is asking all kinds of questions about how someone can get pregnant. I was not ready to discuss these issues with her yet. She is only 10. She will be J.L. Spears age in 6 yrs. That is pretty scary. I guess we need to discuss sex with our children when they turn 5. Because you never know when the sex issue will come up. Thanks Jamie Lynn Spears!!!!!!!!!!!

As soon as I heard Jamie Lynn was pregnant, I knew that Nickelodeon was going to terminate her show. What I didnt know was that it was already in the works (maybe they knew in advance about the pregnancy???). In any event, I think a 16yo pregnant teen isnt the type of role model the show intended for it's young audience...may of whom are as young as 7-8yrs old. It's sad that Jamie Lynn has gotten herself in this situation but it's not really an issue that is so startling that it should make headline news. Teen pregnancy has always been a big problem in the US and many teen pregnancies (1/3 or more) happen between the ages of 13-15yrs old. Now that is headline news.

Teen pregnancy isn't a new subject. Jamie Lynn is getting all the attention just because she's a TV star. There's nothing surprising about that. What I don't understand is why no one is looking at the father. The last time I checked the law books, anyone over the age of 18 is considered an adult. The fact that he got a 16 year old pregnant, even if it was consentual sex, is considered statutory rape. There's usually jail time involved. I think that's the real reason he's laying low and not talking to the press.

what is the big deal.if she wasn't a celebrity this would never have gotten noticed.she is too young to be a role model for anybody.and life goes on.you should all just leave Britney and Jamie Lynn alone and let them live their lives.lots of people have domestic issues and problems, they just aren't plastered on every page.I just hope she saved her money.remember Dana Plato?

In as much as Nickelodeon is responsible for promoting wholesome programming, it also requires its agents under contract to promote the same "wholesomeness" otherwise. Jamie cannot continue to be the face of what is wholesome under her current situation. She's run her course with Nick as have other endorsees whenever moral codes are compromised. Jamie Lynn Spears is one of a pluthera of stars who've been pulled from promotions because of off-camera decisions. I could take inventory of an endless list of names who've been in similar predicaments.

It will be a difficult decision to exclude her from programming without alienating a base of support from those who admire the Zoey character; however, the implications of keeping her on would've not been in alignment with their wholesome family goals. The standards and practices of Nickelodeon programming has been a series of productions the company has become very proud of and known for. It is unfortunate for Jamie that this ordeal opposes the very thing that the Zoey character represents.

This is when real parents take over and explain to their children the consenqunces of actions and the implications of conduct in terms of how they can advance goals and ultimately how they can interrupt goals. Television shouldn't be "in charge" of that--real parents in real homes should kick-in from there. If that means cancelling specific programming, unfavorably to many, it is only done to disassociate itself from an action which thwarts its moral center. This is now a Spears family issue...and trust me--The Spears' have grave intra-family issues to manage at this time.

As a parent of girls 12 and 9 who really looked up to Jamie Lynn I'm disgusted at Nick for not pulling the show right away. What's worse, they advertise her new TV movie with, "Is this goodbye for Zoey"? My girls heard about the pregnancy from friends and became confused by this movie ad. Very tactless. As a middle school teacher I find that beating the 'bad behavior equals bad consequences' drum hard to beat anyway. Yet Nick and Jamie Lynn have 'proven' to young girls that you CAN have it all, dontcha know. They are the pied pipers of the teen scene. Bully for them. I'll be boycotting Nick at every turn.

Comparing Spears pregnancy to HSM Hudgens is like appples and oragnes. If Nick chooses to keep Spears and stand by her, my daughter will see the pregnancy, I can assure you my 10 year old daughter NEVER saw Hudgens nude photos and if it weren't for the media, she never would have heard about it. I hope that they end her show, we worry about teen pregnancy and other issues "damaging" our children, yet they will stand by her, continue her show, all in an effort to make a bigger almighty buck. Nick, I will tune you out and block your programming. Disney will be better.......

I don't understand why they wouldn't prosecute this high profile case, considering that Genarlow Wilson went to prison for 2 years for consentual 'oral' sex between 2 minors. I find it difficult to grasp how our justice system determines when to enforce the law, and when not to. I didn't agree with the Wilson case, which has since been overturned, but certainly we should consider treating all people the same, regardless of their social status, level of fame, or income. Michael Vick didnt get special treatment, why should this be any different?
