Comment: Wow, it's so amazing how Iraq has turned around since the surge. It has been very effective, i only wish we had started and maintained the invasion of Iraq with this many troops. The chaos after the fall of Baghdad and the inability to maintain cohesion by the military after the Iraqi army was defeated, precipitated the insurgency. It's obvious now that we were undermanned in Iraq and Baghdad. But contrary to so many, the surge has allowed the American forces not ony to bring down the violence in Baghdad but to push out Al-Qaida nearly entirely out of Iraq. The successes so far are remarkable, and seem like they are likely to be sustained. We have seen the turning point in the war and insurgency, now if we can get the infrastructure restored, we can see true gains for the people. There is a reason the troops wish to stay and complete the task of helping the average Iraqis, and we support them in these desires. As long as the grunts on the ground want to continue to help stabilize Iraq, I find it very hard to pull out of Iraq considering everything we've done to tear the country apart. It is our job to put it back together, if the Iraqis are willing to do their part which now that the country is becoming safer is becoming a reality...

Comment: The insurgency in Iraq depends entirely on the coverage it gets and the reaction of the public. The actions of terrorists are increasingly targeted towards changing public opinion in the US and in Europe. Every action by Iran, Al-Qaeda, Moqtada Sadr etc. is exquisitely staged to get the maximum negative reaction by the target population.
I noticed that when Teddy Kennedy made a very negative remark about the war in Iraq sometime in the fall of 2003 or in early 2004, it was no more than 2 days after that Moqtada Sadr started his jihad against the US. In addition, please do not forget that the jihadists know about our post-Viet Nam syndrome and they know that their ends will be won for them by us in the US.
I truly believe that if the US left Iraq precipitately, the Al-Qaeda and the numerous other extremists in Pakistan, Indonesia, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Palestine and Afghanistan will view it even more of a victory than the North Vietnamese did after the fall of Saigon. The people in these nations have not had the US constitution and see only the negative aspects of free speech practised by us and use it against us.
