Comment: Libs and Dems have this fantasy that if Americans die defending our freedoms or our intrests, then all was for nothing...They are so used to getting something for nothing that they do "bellyache" everytime one of our soldiers die doing what they are supposed to do...Its a shame that most DEMS/LIBS dont actually do the fighting or see what progress is being made in our theaters we are engaged in...They just sit and criticize until they get their way or become President...Even then they will not do anything to protect our freedoms, troops, or our soil...They just pretend to be doing something all the while fighting off sex scandals or real estate scams...Yup another Dem in office is what we need...To pull our troops home, pretend there isnt ANY threats in the world and do some serious pork barrel spending to get the economy going, help give other countries our jobs, and blame everything on the past Repub admin, then blame it on the new Repub pres when he/she takes over from a scandalous, adulterating, lying Dem pres...Cant wait..
Comment: Karzai is just a puppet. How can he comment on the foreign military presence in Afghanistan when they are the ones who installed him as the puppet and without them the Talibans will come back in no time. Karzai should just shut his mouth and continue receiving blow jobs by the interns in his palace. Maybe the US should give his some toys to play with or better still real playmates. I am not surprised if there is an increase in the US military presence in Afghanistan in the near future.
Comment: Yeah cause being angered over 4000+ dead Americans in a war fought for OIL, bush staying there when we ASKED to leave by the government, McCain wants war too, but not in Afghanistan, he thinks that a blanket store. McCain wants to bomb Iran...yeah we're "bellyaching" Why don't you use your "2nd amendment" hope your cowardly a$$ on a jet to the war zones, either one will do, and put up or SHUT UP!
Comment: excellent 33 more gone to virgin paradise. lets keep obliging them qand sending them to martyhrdom. we are only making them happy.
Oh enough about iraq already. Thne surge worked, neighborhoods are coming back, the gov't is taking over security in some places....in other words there has been real PROGRESS made. we can't leave nomatter who says they are going to(obama flopped on that one already)so deal with it and quit bellyaching!
Comment: Bush&Co screwed up at Tora Bora by "outsourcing" the combat to Afghan warlords, most who wanted nothing to do with OBL. The 10th Mountain was in theatre, and not putting them in a blocking position was a disaster. Maybe some HVT's would have been caught, killed. Maybe alot of thier fighters never would have gotten into Pakistan. The 10th would have killed them. The catastrophic blunder was going into Iraq, which was NOT a threat, but was built up to be by neo-cons like Rumsfeld, Wolfowicz, Rove etc. Throw in an inept CIA Dir. and you have the formula for disaster. It was a LIE. It was about oil, contracts to big companies like KBR, Halliburton, and security firms like the ultra-competent but trigger happy Blackwater Operators, to the inept firms like Dyn. Corps who was tasked to train Iraqi police. We took our eyes off the REAL mission: Destroy AQ/T-ban, and deny them a base of operations. Now they have it better in Waziristan than they EVER did in A-stan. Sooner or later the decision will have to be made. Send a massive strike package across the Afghan border and annihilate the camps, compounds etc. An insurgency can only survive if it has "SAFE HAVENS". Obama, please do the right thing and let the military do thier job. Seems Dubya lost his nerve.
Comment: Bush's decision to invade Iraq after 9/11 makes as much sense as invading Brazil after Pearl Harbor. Saddam was a monster, but he also hated al-Qaeda, We did not stop terrorists by invading Iraq, we have created more of them. McCain didn't merely rubber stamp the Iraq war. He stopped short of selling tickets for it. Now various war contractors are bankrolling his campaign.
In the meantime, why we are buying off various insurgents in Iraq by giving them the weapons they want and need to set up their own mini-shiekdoms, Afghanistan is getting re-conquered by the Taliban. Were Ossama bin Laden to hand-pick our president, I'm sure he'd chose John McCain - who only promises more of the sheer inepitude and incompetence we've witnessed for the last 8 years.
I totally agree with Nims. We need a change - a change we can believe in. We need Obama and a team of like minded Democrats in both the White House and Congress.
I'd also add one more important item. Oil is going to destroy the world. Right now global warming is proceeding at an alarming waste. Right now, the carbon dioxide ration is 382 parts per million. It's going up by about 2 parts per million each year. When we approach 450 parts per million we face mass extinction. Incidentally the percentage of Methane is also increasing, That's even a more lethal gas than carbon dioxide. We're fighting for oil in Iraq when we need to free ourselves from fossil fuels. And we've got less than 30 years before doomsday. (P.s. Check out the October 2007 issue of National Geographic.)
Comment: Sorry, One, but your premises are not correct. Saddam Hussein was not "very dangerous to America." Saddam Hussein did NOT indulge in terrorism against America, not did he allow terrorist organizations to take hold in Iraq. He was a despotic dictator, but he actually did a MUCH better job at governing Iraq and keeping terrorism in check than we have. And by the time we invaded, Iraq was so weak from losing the war against Kuwait, the ongoing wars with Iran and ten years of economic sanctions that Iraq and Saddam posed no threat to anyone.
If we were really interested in stopping Al Queda, we should have stayed in Afganistan, finished the job, then moved on to fight Al Queda in Somalia, instead of trying to rob Iraq of it's oil. And as much as I find that motive distasteful, I find it still worse that we didn't even get the oil. Didn't Bush and Cheney realize that the Iraqis wold blow up the wells and the refineries, and that the ensuing chaos would make it impossible to rebuild them?
But as to abandoning the Iraqi people, I would say that Obama has excellent strategies for effectively building a REAL democracy in Iraq, which has NEVER been Bush's intention.
Read Obama's Audacity of Hope for more information on his strategy in Iraq and Afganistan.
Comment: Dear One, I agree with you about the horrible social conditions in Iran. I have two things to say about that. One is, Americans need to be VERY CAREFUL not to let the religious right wing take over the Supreme Court, considering that Iran shows you what it really looks like when a nation fails to separate church and state. The second point is that WE, the USA, put those nut jobs in power by placing the Shah in power then controlling his government as a puppet, which infuriated the Iranian people. The Iranian people rebelled against such imperialism, and in the middle of this secular political rebellion, the Ayatollahs seized power. Not to mention the very cogent fact that WE, the USA, gave Iran their first nuclear reactor. Oh, yeah. We forgot all about that. Now we are threatening to bomb them for possessing technology that WE gave them?
And what is all this nonsense about Iran attacking Israel? Iran has been at war with Iraq for decades, and never succeeded in even taking over a neighboring province. How are they going to fight a long distance war with Israel? Iran does NOT have significant military force to back up a nuclear strike, even if it were stupid enough to indulge in one, even if it already had the warheads, which it does not.
And ask yourself, who has strengthened the religious fanatics that control Iran? The USA. First, we give them nuclear power, then we set up conditions for the Ayatollahs to seize power, then we plunge Iraq into civil war and destroy Iraq's infrastructure, which effectively disables Iran's greatest enemy. Furthermore, Bush refuses to have diplomatic relations, only worsening the situation. And McCain threatens to bomb Iran, which is even stupider (and much more real) than Iran threatening to bomb Israel. We have no one but ourselves to blame for the horrible situation in the middle east.
VOTE FOR OBAMA to end all this needless drama.
Comment: Golly I didnt know that there were any problems in the mid east, where ppl were kidknapping Americans....Where the hell did this woman come from? under a rock? She shouldnt have been over there until things calm down. Now we have to waste time and money, not to mention possibly negotiate with these clowns to get her back. Stupid! Maybe the state dept should send her the bill if she survives, for the money spent. Send a message to others, that it costs to be stupid.
Comment: The problems in Kabul and Kandhar originate from Pakistan. About time to cut our umbilical chord with Musharraff.
Comment: Hamid Karzai should just let the US rule Afghanistan because he is just a shameless US puppet. The afghan people hate him so much. He has no dignity in the eyes of the people. He need not plead repeatedly with NATO and the coalition to coordinate more closely with their Afghan counterparts to prevent civilian casualties because his words mean nothing. The US should give him the pacifier or ask him to suckle his thumb.
