I take great exception with Polier's article. That he talks of Raila's purple suits and yellow hummer shows that he has either never been to Kenya or is just relying on hearsay to write the article, for Raila possesses neither. Non in Kenya is a reformer greater than Raila. Even Western diplomats have attributed economic gains currently being seen in Kenya to fundamental economic principles instituted in the three years prior to 2003 that Raila and likeminded fired ministers were in power, and not necessarily to a particular individual (Kibaki).
It's important that journalists with ability to carry objective investigative work, and not just reporters intent on reporting propaganda as it is fed to them by interested parties in Kenya, report on the country. Newsweek can and needs to do better.
And what is so amizing is that the writer went to Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
Damn waste
This is one of the most lopsided article ever written by a major news organization such as Newsweek. Your facts are as skewed and there is an inherent biasness. The depiction of Raila as power hungry is fallacy in its self as he stepped down in last election campaigned for Kibaki's . The upswing in economic growth can not be termed success if inflation is in its double digits and more than 50% live in abject poverty.
A very poorly written piece implying kenyans are fools who "do-not -know-what-is-good-the-them" when they vote. The truth is Kibaki is loosing because of widespread corruption, failure to deliver on a promise of a new constitution, absence of youth in his government (which is instead infiltratrated by old ethinic buddies in the 70s) among other reason.
Majority of kenyans have not benefited from this so called growth. When adjusted for inflation, most kenyans are actaully poorer because growth has been so top heavy .

This writer is very ignorant of what really is driving Kenyan economy. He is further ignorant of what really brought Kibaki to power. The forces that brought Kibaki to power are the forces that are now removing him and replacing him with the man who was the real one behind those forces. He is the man who favourde Kibaki and fought for his election. When Kibaki failed to stump out corruption and continued to pack his government with people from his own community, he is doomed to go.
