Comment: Moravcsik is not thinking straight. Why should Europe be longing for US's respects? Europe consists of individual sovereign nations with their own legacies and traditions. The Europeans despite having conquered most of the world and colonised them still have the respect from the rest of the world.

Next why should Europe be desirous of US's attention? It is the other way round. The US is now experiencing signs of its eventual downfall, like all great nations as history has shown.

Economically China is going to be the next power. Militarily the US has stretched to its limits while Europe is just deploying its minimum.Russia is building its military capabilities and the US will inevitably need Europe as allies which is going to be a daunting task for the US to convince them - the US has to deal with individual European nation and not through one authority.

As a society the US is less cohesive. There are more racial and religious conflicts in the US than in Europe. Violence are widespread in the US. There are more poor people in the US and more illigal immigrants. The truth is that the none caucasion are second class citizens in th US - there are white enclaves and the white communities will not welcome others to live within their communities.

The are more people with mental problem in the US reflected by the many incidents details of which everyone knows. You can looks at the streets in New York and see so many weird characters.

Europeans are more conseravtive while the US is too liberal for its own good. European has a higher moral standard while the US morality is degrading the human being. With its hedonistics way of life, the Lewinsky scandal and the proven liars in the White House what more can be said?

Now I think Prof. Moravcsik please be more realistic.
