I doubt Szilard Koszticsak is reading these comments, but if so, I just want to say your portrait of the boy accompanying this story is fantastic. Great job!

If Szilard Koszticsak is reading these comments, I just want to say your photograph is absolutely amazing. Great work!
HMMM? THINK MAYBE THE PHONE CALL WAS STAGED??? DU UH?
Wow, what a POWERFUL idea JosephB has, and I mean that sincerely, in saying that these indiscriminate bombings of uninvolved civilians should be henceforth called "homicide bombings". Talk about the pen being mightier than the sword!! The term "suicide bomber" very unfairly emphasizes the bomber over his victims. Imagine the media using the new term every time they reported one of these. I'm blown away, truly. One can only hope! As far as the rest of what Joseph says, it needs to be remembered that Islam is not any more monolithic than the various types of Christianity. Our battles should be with the fascist, militant outcropings of Islam as they manifest themselves, not Islam as a whole.
I agree with your comment about our focus on the militant or the extremists instead of Islam as a whole. You dont put an entire family on trial because one of its members is a murderer. You dont put an entire town on trial because of the deeds of a few. I dont agree with every Christian I meet. Even Christianity has SO many branches. How can me justify turning against an entire religious group because of the actions of only a few?
ya i agree it looks like some is missing here but it sure is nice to see a report on how a people fight a war without helios, tanks and sidewinder missles, we did not give them, as we armed there enemies! If the only delivery system has two feet, maybe we should pay a little attention as this one day will be us, against our own well armed military, and "We the People" will only have what's on our backs or strapped to ourselves! After all Bush is still president and the self serving GOP is still in power! How they weild it it the question for the ages, but trust no one, at least not one of them! I would like to see the rest, if, there is a rest of the story.
George Bush, as goofy as he may be, had no hand in this event. But I agree that we shouldn't be arming any Arab nation. Let them arm themselves. However the flip side of that says: Let Russia arm them. I'm not too happy with that alternative. Russia will arm IRAN, and Iran will arm any extremist country, or any anti-American country for that matter. As far as arms go, how would you handle arms. Is there really a safe alternative?
I am disgusted by this story. My husband is currently in Ghazni and could have been murdered by this or any other bomber. In America this reporter would be an accessory to murder! How can you stand by knowing that the men you are with are going to murder innocent people and do nothing?!

Lemme get this straight. This reporter was offered the chance to meet some real-live-by-golly suicide bombers. At their meeting, there is an "urgent call", and the bombers strap up with belts that JUST HAPPENED to be hidden right there on the premises, and run off to perform their "deadly mission". before any real interview can take place. Later, the reporter learns they "hadn't found" their target.
I'm not buying it. I think this reporter got played.
How heart-wrenching story is this. If I were the reporter, I would not keep my own job any more. What makes them do such a horrible act? What is God for them? The story only reminds me of my living a happy life right now.
Penzagoodword---One can only hope!
What a waste of time. Instead of a legitimate story that might offer an insight into suicide bombing, we get am 'almost' interview.
What a waste of time. An 'almost' interview posted like a legitimate item.
I don't doubt this writer;s veracity. I was a reporter for the Village Voice in Northern Ireland and visiting the home of an IRA supporter when I got to hear "the midnight knock," as British soldiers knocked on the door and came in and searched the place from top to bottom, weapons drawn. So these kinds of things happen. What I feel most is the writer's empathy for the three young lives that will be lost. I know he must have felt to see these young people, their eyes bright with their misguided beliefs and zeal, rushing off to their death. No one who is truly human can help but mourn the loss, even in the service of an evil - although not to them - cause. Young 21-year-old kids, ignorant, broke and far from their families, believing sincerely they will go to Paradise for killing others - it would make me very sad.

3 minutes have passed. No falafal detonation. My cell phone rang. It was my mom. I don't see a connection. Falafal is overcooked and virtually inedible. That is a tragedy. Thank goodness I didn't sacrifice the gyros. Falafal made a popping noise once. I was a little scared. I am sure my moment of fright was similar to this journalists experience with the taliban...because I am sure he wrote his article from his couch. hahahhahaha.
I am no journalist, but seriously, the title was the most riveting thing about this. Here's my submission into Newsweek:
"I heard of the suicide bombers, but never actually met one nor have I been anywhere near the middle east. I have had falafel before. It was quite tastey. Maybe if I put the falafel in the microwave, it would explode like a peep! Then, I would have some expertise on Middle Eastern Bombing. Excellent. Give me approximately 3 minutes for this experiment and I will follow up with my "expert opinion."
There! Now I can write for Newsweek! Riveting, huh?
This story sounds more like Zionist propaganda than something that really happened. The mis-use of the word fedayeen is the most overt give away. Fedayeen is the word, we were told, Sadams "elite" militia used to call themselves. This thing sounds faked. Why are these people going to allow themselves to be interviewed by a western associated journalist. If they wanted media they would want it to be local or Arabic so that the could inspire others who believe in their cause.
Also, all those that called Islam a 'religion of death' need to get a bit of a clue about philosophy and religion. Islamic nations have the highest birth rates.Despite all the distruction in Afghanistan for intance they still have a rapidly growing population. Western nations like Spain, Italy, Germany, etc.. have much higher living standards and have been at peace since 1946 have negative birthrates.Islamic governments do not allow abortion of healthy infants just becuase they inconvience the mother. They don't promote casual sex and allow open homosexuality two other life robbing practices. Because someone is willing to die for their cause does not mean they embrace death. It means that they have a moral code which justifies their taking of other lives and the sacrific of their own to acheive a greater "good". Natuarally most modern westerners don't think of Islams moral code as "good", but that does not make it anymore or less valid as a spiritual or philosophical path. Christianity is more of a death religion than Islam. Its founder is praised for dieing for sins and it is as dedicated to the afterlife as Islam. Also Christinity altuism and self sacrifice concepts are anti-darwinian and do not make a people or nation stronger or more powerful rather more weak and docile.
Western nations need to return to their pre-christian roots to finds the will to power, which is equivalent to the will to life. Life is power ,will and struggle. Death is weakness, passiveness and complacency. If the west dies and Islam thrives it will be because the west will be lead to its death by the judeo inspired falicies of egalitarianism and pacifism.
Christians and Muslims....tsk tsk....always head-on for war...why does this thing called "religion" have to pulled into the heinous world of politics?all becus of some evil ppl who want power, naive ppl are brainwashed to do commit such crimes....get a f**king life, y'all....
You could've stopped them , by informing the military of your interview and Taliban sources ! wear a gps reciever in then they follow you in and destroy the threat ! You were a coward and because of your inaction people Innocents will die !
