islam as a religion equates violence.the funny thing is that westerners think that america got them selfes in trouble because they went into iraq or for that matter afghanistan.that thought could not be far from the truth.as a nigerian christian, i can only say one thing , this islamist death squads have killed more christian from afica and in africa than the will ever americans.the other worrying thing is that either out of fear of arabs or just lack of will most westerners think somehow the threat emanating from islam will disappear.the truth is that with time this treat will grow and grow and eventually will bring about major wars somewhere in the west.islam as a religion can not be placated and lets you forget kosovo was a part or serbia years back before the muslims came there , i for see something similar happening somewhere in the heart of europe in the not too distant future. udoka

I am left scratching my head about the reporter's explanation of the term fedayeen. I am not aware of any context in Arabic or its dialects, nor of any lexicon which borrows Arabic culturally, in which this word would have the meaning referenced in this story.

richardSC, you need to wake up to the bitter, horrifying fact that this is not "america" anymore. maybe there are others in the world who want to destroy us, but the folks in power here now are doing a much better job than the terrorists...if you think there is any regard for freedom or justice in the White House, then you are sadly deceived...maybe your illusions are comforting to you. i wish i still had such illusions...

If you want learning more about the mentality of the Moslem radical, then visit the web site Azureus Views where may be downloaded videos like "Gun Market in Pakistan" which reveals just how apt these people are at creating destruction. There are many free video files at Azureus regarding the Middle East, and which seldom does the American news media reveal. These people have a love for death and cannot get there quickly enough in their desires to destroy the so call infidels. We have a president who is attempting to offer an olive branch to those that desire most to rid the world of us, and having a religion that honor death and destruction. The western world had best to awaken to the absolute truth about Islam and it the need to either contain or destroy it. We are the infidel to them, and they have the right to destroy us, and will do so if having the opportunity. Its that simple, but our government and most the news media refuse to recognize it.

I'm sorry, but this reporter's mistranslation of the word fedayeen, among other things, leads me to believe that he has no idea what he's doing, and that what he witnessed was something staged for his benefit. Maybe next time you could send a reporter fluent in the relevant languages and a little bit street-smart!

Whoa, this story is so lame it can't be real. Why would they even publish this? Looks like they had to have something to justify paying the reporters expenses. Three suicide bombers in the middle of nowhere get a phone call and can't find anything to blow up? Please, there must have been a dog , gopher or playground full of kids they could have taken out somewhere. next time print the article when you have something noteworthy.

Forgot to mention people with a place to call HOME do not need two legged bombers, and the target in the hoods are all women and children, you know furture bombers, no great loss-a child hu

  • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 12/23/2007 2:50:28 PM

no the story usualy ends like this
the bomber gets his target and kills 5 wounds 15 and the enemy sends 5 apache helios into any hood pick a hood and launchs 15-20 sidewinders into the block which disaperes completly, and they call it even, and as we watch in horror to the retaliation!! its kool with us to!!!

    The rest of the story:

As they left for their mission and their figures grew smaller on the horizon, a sudden orange flash appeared and they were no more. A last call from their Imam wishing great success accidentally detonated their vests. Most unfortunately, their body parts were strewn about in a nearby pig farm.

  • Posted By: Penzagoodword @ 12/23/2007 1:16:04 PM

Its too bad the story didn't end like this. As the left for their mission and their figures grew smaller in the distance, suddenly an orange plume appeared, their vest mistakenly detonated by a cell phone call
from their local Imam and family wishing them great success.

What was the point in printing this? There was no story,I kept looking for the second page.I wish he had waited for the second meeting perhaps so he could have had a story.Really point-less except for the fact that we now know he was very scared for his own safety.Great set-up with no follow through.

  • Posted By: katielouisemiller1215 @ 12/23/2007 2:08:08 AM

Well, he shouldn't be going a moment or length - but rather something of substantial interest. And here he gave a great set-up, but didn't follow through. I'm thinking, where's the rest of it? Did he forget to include the second page?

As a journalism student, I am learning the most powerful stories are the ones that capture a moment. Real journalists aren't shooting for length, they're shooting to tell the truth. The fact that Yousafzai did not include quotes does raise questions about the validity of this story, but sometimes quotes aren't necessary to convey, or may even get in the way of, the point. Yousafzai's life was indeed in danger; however, maybe he felt going into too much detail soiled the story. Think about getting the silent treatment from your significant other, or a "no comment" response from a stubborn source: silence can be just as powerful as words.

I'm not going to say this is a fake story, but for someone to put their life in so much danger this story is very short. Why didn't the reporter talk to the other people around them who were probably part of these suicide missions also?

  • Posted By: smaguns @ 12/23/2007 12:12:14 AM

I have to agree with you perri. It sounds to much like a novel type of story. I'm guessing that he probably ended up going somewhere but never met anyone, but since he didn't want to dissapoint his editor, he made up a semi believable story.

  • Posted By: perrin @ 12/22/2007 5:37:28 PM

I don't believe this story. I think it's pure and simple fabrication. Very simple in fact. What kind of horse manure stories are you trying to cram down your readers throats now?..... Now, think about it for a moment and just try to visualize the scene. What crap reporting!............

    • Posted By: smaguns @ 12/23/2007 12:09:28 AM

Well perrin, I have to agree with you, this sounds "to good to be true". This guy lives in a fantasy land....he probably didn't get to meet anyone, but wanted to still please his editor. I guess stories like this is what sells newspapers.

  • Posted By: perrin @ 12/22/2007 5:43:18 PM

I don't believe this is a real story, and I don't take this sort of thing lightly. Is this all the reporter had to say after having his life put in mortal danger? That's it?. What crap!........Maybe you need to do a little more research on the people you have writing for you. Just try to imagine the scene and how you would react to it. Was teh guy stoned or what?.....
