It was the media who made Jackson and Sharpton the "leaders" of black america to the exclusion of all others and it is the media who seeks these two for comment regarding divisive issues. Jackson and Sharpton's day ended more than a decade and a half ago. Get over it and stop looking for one or two individuals to speak for a diverse community.

We really are a more diverse community than the corporate media would have the nation believe. That said, Barack is playing at the federal government-level now. His finish line is entirely different than that of local rights-activists, and yes, they can exist in the same universe.

It's no longer Reverend Jackson's day in the sun, or any other black leader's ---- sheilab, you are so right when will they get it. Rev''s Jackson and Sharpton message only plays to the Media and, Republicans. Most Black peaple never pay any attention to what they have to say.

First things first, the media didn???t make Jackson and Sharpton leaders. It was their actions that put them in the spotlight. And if they are behind the times and equality and justice is a ???defeated cause??? then we are in trouble

And if you guys sheilab and dshu where involved in fixing problems in the black community you would know that there are leaders at all levels. There aren???t one or two individuals speaking for the all of the African American Diaspora. CNN and FOX don???t speak for nor do they have Black???s best interest in mind. If you want to know their true contributions and if you want to really know how the black electorate feels about them try to review Black news outlet. Please try to expand your minds, view the situation from different points of view and then make a fully educated comment.

What is this you???re talking about that black people don???t pay attention to what they have to say? That???s false! Sharpton has a nationally broadcasted radio show that has many people tuning in

Obama is smart to avoid association with the "old lions." Jackson, Sharpton and Young represent a tired, depressing, defeated message that no one's buying anymore. Obama wants to win this thing, not tie himself to losing causes. If race becomes his main issue, he will lose. Policies that address challenges for blacks and other minorities are fine, but this man is running for President of all the people. The main difference between Obama and the old boys is that he knows he's free to pursue all the opportunities this country offers, while the others are still in mental and emotional slavery of their own making.

just one more reason why Obama hasn't earned the nomination. With his Muslim father and stepfather and privileged white upbringing, he brings nothing but problems to winning the White House back.

I can't believe Newsweek is publishing such foolishness when the claims are easily debunked. I don't have time to address all the lies here, so I'll just deal with the most glaring one: the claim that Obama hasn't sought the advice of Revs. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, or Andrew Young. Less than a month ago, on November 29th to be exact, Obama went to New York and had breakfast with Mayor Bloomberg and dinner at Slyvia's with Rev. Sharpton. According to the National Journal's blog, The Hotline: "Obama had showed up at Sharpton's office just a few blocks away earlier in the day to ask the reverend to have dinner with him at Sylvia's so they could talk about the importance of hate crime legislation. The Obama campaign made sure to invite the New York and national press along to photograph the event." Clearly, Obama sought the advice of Rev. Sharpton. And if you listen to Rev. Sharpton's daily nationally syndicated radio show like I do, you'll hear him talk about his meetings with Obama quite often. And Rev. Sharpton isn't the only one he is meeting with.

Silentobserver said this is one of the most poorly researched articles to ever appear in a national publication. I agree!

This is one of the most poorly written, poorly researched, assumptive articles ever to appear in a national publication. The Rev. Jackson's endorsement of Mr. Obama, as well as Andy Young's perspective of the Illinois senator as someone who has the potential to be a good president -- while acknowledging his fear that some racist zealot would take him out, as was the case with MLK, Malcolm, Medgar and a host of others -- does not suggest jealousy. Moreover, neither Jackson nor the Rev. Sharpton seem anywhere near irrelevant. Consider Jackson's stand against gunshop owners, which has landed him in jail on more than one occasion, and his very salient point about racist predatory lending practices, and explain how you can justify your anemic analysis. Do you remember that 20,000 people showed up in a tiny Louisiana town to decry the vividly racist practices of the LaSalle Parish prosecutor? Because you write something, and increasingly irrelevant publications, like Newsweek, are silly enough to print it, doesn't make it so. Thankfully, Jackson and Sharpton do not quit clamoring about the injustices that permeate this planet merely because it's not the juiciest topics of the day. And, in the future, try to think a little before writing such racially insensitive foolishness!

I'm a young black women who graduated from an all black college. I must say that I'm soooo proud to see a man stand for something other than "our" old ways and rituals. Personally, I'm tired of hearing about an acre and a mule, it's time to swallow the fact that YES, we've been done wrong in the past but we're not the only culture in our history who has suffered! It's very breathtaking to finally see a human being who stands for my beliefs and concerns run for office. Barack Obama--YOU HAVE MY VOTE!!!

lets go new shool on them all the way, after we get Obama in; For once in our life lets show all them old school politicians up there on capital hill who only knows how to do business as usual and who think they know what???s better for us then we know ourselves. These politicians up there on the hill is not listening to us, so it our turn as American people to demonstrate our authority and our dissatisfaction with these politician who we???ve hire and elected to serve our best interest; not the lobbyist. These politicians past all of these laws, but now! We as American people must pass one law and one law alone and stand on that law which we pass. And that law is zero tolerance when it comes to the best interest of the American people, because if any politicians up there put anyone interest ahead of the American people, and then we must give them their pink slip; because they???re fire. We are the real judges of this here American arena so its time to step up to the plate and be the human being we need to be for our children and country, and its time to make an example and send a bold message about how strongly we feel about the mess and miss use of power and the weakness of uncheck power that has took place in our country. We must fire every single politician upon capital hill and it???s not anything personal, its just business. Therefore we must make a stronger enough example for all future politicians to come; that there will be zero tolerance when it comes to our best interest. Let???s elect a whole new Senate and Congress to back this new President. I know, that???s crazy sense we need experience people, but experience people got us in this mess that we are in today. There is nothing to fear but fear itself. New ideals are just going to have to come from a new fresh Legislative body with new experience with a new belief for a new world, even though many of us prefer the old one???.. We are not items and things that can be label and separated, we are people and labialization brings about automatic separation. There are no colors when it comes to the human???s race; we???re just many shades of a tasty treat. Lets not let no one label us as black or white, because if they can separate us. Then divide and conquer is a cake walk.
Let???s put the young guy Obama in office. Lets go new on the
