Was it true the "victims" were harassing the cat before the attacks?

  • Posted By: persnickitykitty @ 12/28/2007 9:29:58 AM

Did they have witnesses to the incident? There was mention of the "Victims" harassing the cat before it attacked.

This whole situation is very sad...I think now is the time to focus on how to prevent it from happening again.

I give you the break! but don???t spill your personal crap here, your comment has nothing to do with the concern and if you had a time of whole wide world to memorize the whole oxford dictionary or whatever but you don???t have any right to show this rude and childish behavior to any one for his/her vocabulary.
If you are so coward that comments make you scare then this is not my or any one else???s fault go and sleep with your mama or whatever but don???t discuss your personal weaknesses here we are least interested in those.

It was certainly a human error. It is our responsibility to care for wild life, free or in captivity. 55 years ago two drunks went , AT MIDNIGHT, into Mexico City zoo, they made a bet. One of them had to take a swim in the polar bears enclosure, so he did. The female attacked him, was shot and died. She, as Tatiana, acted according to her nature. There is no such thing as a vicious bear, tiger, elephant etc. Caregivers must prevent such type of encounters between visitors and animals because humans are prone to harass animals. Why not have tv cameras and tranquilizer shots in a first world zoo? POOR TIGER !!!!! she fell victim of human stupidity. we are 6 thousand three hundred million people and the tiger, AS MANY OTHER, is an endanger species.SHAME ON US HUMANS!!!!!!!

crstardust - You don't know if it the 12 1/2 ft was built to save money - that's an outrage statement....learn facts first. Still, the tiger behaved how nature intented him to be...an animal. The tiger is not human. He can't reason.

Antiegone1000--So, what you're saying is that all other animals have the right to be paid to work at Mcdonalds or wal-mart or anything, and that they have the right to destroy us?

    • Posted By: mike1964 @ 12/27/2007 8:19:28 PM

I can't find those statements anywhere either, Antigone1000. Dumb-Animalo98, where did you read that?

      • Posted By: Dumb-Animal098 @ 12/27/2007 8:47:49 PM

Antigone1000 said that animals have the same rights as humans do, I was making a point.

        • Posted By: Antigone1000 @ 12/27/2007 9:06:16 PM

          Where did I say that?

  • Posted By: wildbill69 @ 12/27/2007 9:02:09 PM

Doesn't anyone wonder why this tiger picked these three and not the thousands that have visited the exhibit over the years. Its bad that one died and the others are hurt, but they did something that really pi-sed off that tiger.
People are always doing stupid things around wild animals (go to Yellowstone and watch), they act like they're playing with Yogi Bear instead of something that can kill them in a New York second.
This is going to cost the Zoo millions, because no one has the balls to tell these families that "sometimes when you fu-k with the bull, you get the horn".
What these guys did i have no idea, but they did something that caused one of them to die and serious injuries to the others.

  • Posted By: mindbird @ 12/27/2007 8:56:32 PM

The tiger attacked the three teenage males just outside her enclosure, and she trailed the two that ran, ignoring other visitors---pretty likely they were taunting her and throwing things at her. Large intelligent animals kept in cages so idiots can see them---it's no wonder that it's hard to "breed" animals in zoos, or that they try to let their offspring mercifully die through abandonment. Would you want to be "bred" and forced to have children knowing they will grow up and live and die inside a prison? Now that we have photography and cinema and television, why do they even have these animal-prisons called zoos anymore at all?

  • Posted By: carminaburana @ 12/27/2007 8:51:55 PM

Of course it was a human error! why kill the tiger? it is an edanger species, shouldn??nt zoos have tranquilizer bullets? 55 years ago two drunk men got in the Mexico City zoo at midnight , they made a bet, one of them said he would go in the white bears??swimming pool, he did so; the female attacked him and she got shot and died. It is our responsibility to care for animals -wild life- and the ones we keep captive, this includes to prevent through safety mesurements any confrontations and /or harassment from the public. THE TIGER ACTED ACCORDING TO HER NATURE, POOR TIGER!

One more reason why we have the right to keep and bear arms. All adult males, with a stable mental history and no criminal record should be armed. These 3 men would be alive and safe had they been able to protect themselves with a .357 magnum.

    • Posted By: Antigone1000 @ 12/27/2007 8:43:05 PM

Or, perhaps, if they hadn't been doing something they shouldn't have been doing......

  • Posted By: big ronnie @ 12/27/2007 8:28:26 PM

Another reason why we have the right to keep and bear arms. All adults with no criminal history and mentally stable should be armed. If these 3 men would have been armed they would be alive and safe to day after using their 357 magnum to protect themselves and others.

      Ronnie,
That is the most COLOSSALLY stupid remark I have heard in quite some time. I don't know whether to congratulate you or just shake my head in amazement.

      You scare me.

Although it is tragic that a young man was killed and two others were seriosly injured, one has to ask the question: was it the tiger's fault that this incident occured? the prevailing answer MUST be NO. As it has been stated in almost all interviews with zoo officials and wildlife experts, the animal was only acting out of instinct when it attacked. Let's put the blame where it really belongs, which is most likely with (atleast) the first victim. According to reports, he was provoking the animal, and I find it a terrible shame that this beautiful animal had to be destroyed only for doing what was in her nature. Tigers are, after all, predatory animals even if they are born and raised in captivity. I hope that the zoo can prevent any further human (and animal) losses such as this in the future. Also, in closing, I would like to state that if the criminal investigation which is underway finds that the animal was in fact provoked, the families of the victims who provoked the attaccks should NOT be allowed, by the justice system to bring a law suit against the zoo.

Bravo, mayzydaizy! I have no doubt that the tiger WAS provoked and the right to sue should be denied to the families. These idiots brought it on themselves. There were at least 40 people in the zoo at the time. Does no one wonder why THESE three friends were attacked, leaving 37 unharmed???

  • Posted By: Frosted Flake @ 12/27/2007 6:51:57 PM

I agree with Petasucks. Does it even say anywhere that the people involved were even taunting the tiger? Practically everyone here is just automatically assuming that.

    • Posted By: Antigone1000 @ 12/27/2007 6:57:40 PM

The investigation shows that they may have been taunting the tiger, but I don't think there has been a definite determination of that yet.

      • Posted By: Antigone1000 @ 12/27/2007 7:25:17 PM

Wouldn't know. I evolved beyond eating animals years ago.........

        • Posted By: Dumb-Animal098 @ 12/27/2007 7:54:28 PM

          Umm, vegetables are species too.
If you have long evolved from eating animals, you must have eaten an animal at one point, and what makes eating an animal then different than eating one now?
Besides, you're missing the point, you're not the whole human race, you're just one person who doesn't eat animals.
Oh, and what do you wear? Nothing? most clothes are made from animals.

          • Posted By: Antigone1000 @ 12/27/2007 8:01:20 PM

Vegetables are species--what does that mean, exactly?? And, no, for the most part, I do not wear clothing made from animals and I have not eaten animals products in probably 15 years.

These stupid zoos need to have better ways to handle such events. Why are there not tranquilizer guns to subdue the Tiger? We stupid, ignorant, greedy, selfish Humans will cause the Siberian Tigers and many other species to become extinct by overtaking all their habitat, killing them for pure pleasure or profit. Last week some Idiots in China broke into a zoo and killed a female Siberian Tiger. They beheaded her and skinned her. The stupid Chinese think Tiger bones is a medicine. We might as well kill all these magnificent creatures now. There are only about 400 left. There are over 6.5 billion 2-legged fools. These creatures and many like them will become extinct forever soon. The Yangtze Baiji Dolphin is now extinct in China. We stupid Humans are just too greedy, selfish and ignorant. We will destroy this planet.

Soon, these magnificent creatures will all be extinct. Then, we greedy stupid Humans don't have to be concerned about Tigers, Lions, Whales, Dolphins, Elephants, Bears, Rhinos, Sharks, Primates, etc. We can target each other then. We will make all these creatures extinct because of our stupidity and explosive population. We might as well kill all of these creatures now. Humans think we own this planet. We will destroy it instead.

Only 400 left, soon no one will ever have to worry about them. They and many other creatures will be extinct forever. Good job, Humans!!!

A cop is brave with a gun. Without one, they are cowards like the Hunters without their high powered weapons or the Japanese Whalers without their explosive Harpoons and Machetes used to kill Whales and Dolphins. Shooting animals requires no bravery. What do fools expect these creatures to do? If you swim with Sharks and Stingrays, don't blame them if you are killed. If you enter a creatures habitat be they a Bear, Lion, Tiger, Rhino, Elephant, Jaguar, etc. expect the worse. It is their natural instinct. Perhaps, even more so if they have been abused.
There are only 400 Siberian Tigers Left. Expect them and many other species to go extinct soon thanks to us.

Just like the anti-abortion freaks, why don't you round up all the endangered animals and save them yourself..........I like animals and don't like to see them harmed or caged, and yes the human race is not the greatest but we do live in a human world. Some of these comments here are not human but my God how can you not see the big picture? 1 man was killed and 2 mauled, what at the time should the police have done, asked the tiger to play nice? Tigers are beautiful animals and humans like you should not be able to have children. Get a LIFE!!!

      • Posted By: lindy123 @ 12/27/2007 7:30:56 PM

What does annpik's having or not having children have to do with the fact that these 3 idiot kids who did'n't tell their parents where they were going and ended up at the zoo bothered this truly magnificent animal to the brink of jumping over and chomping one to death and mauling the others. You should truly choose your words better "mr or mrs animal lovers get a live please". Animals are alot better behaved than alot of humans I know, and have seen.
