I donot think Musharaf is behind the assisanation of Mrs. Bhutto. This is really bad thing that happened in the history of Pakistan.

I agree. I don't think Musharaf is behind this. Any phsyical harm to Bhutto would have been devastating to Musharraff because he becomes the automatic suspect. He could have tried to ruin her image, but killing has absolutely no motive for Musharraf's election hope.

No one person can bring change, it takes a movement. Bhutto's death could have started this movement. Or it could of ended a movement. Only time will tell. This was prophesized that a woman leader would be assassinated and that it would impact the whole globe. Everyone thought it was a possible referal to an American president. Who thought it would have been Bhutto. THe extremist movement still hold grudges against the Clinton Administration. Hillary Clinton could fuel the extremist cause. This extremist movement views "things" different. I felt bad when I heard the news partly because Bhutto was a women. To us it is an unspeakable crime but to others who belong to powerful extermist movements it is "nothing". These people do not care. We need Obama as president in order to fuel the peace process. Our best chance at peace and security is OBAMA.

Having the democracy in any Muslim Country is the imposible, dictatorship and corraption is the very Common livestyle of these countries, people are scared to change anything so they will go with the flow,
and they will hate anyone who tries to change something.
Read the muslim history, they do not invent anything for past 100 years.
7 Noble prize winners for past Century years and 1 out of 7 is the murder from Palestine you can guess who.

What in the name of common sense are you talking about? I do not identify myself with any organized religion, but I am a student of history, and I find your remarks totally nonsensical and incomprehensible.

The analysis is tainted with a western point of view of a nation that has been responsible for supporting terrorist activities in the neighborhood. That a 'dramatically-elected, secular (???) government can engage the Pakistani people against Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and other extremist movements' is a far cry and furthest from the ground realities! This analysis does not take into account the historical facts or the psyche of Pakistani politicians. Backtracking to Tsunami in South Asia, you could see on the video muslim people showcasing Bin Laden on the T shirts they wore!

Why the news media dont use a direct aproch to events to use it in a cycology way to keep
the basics first . Bhutto killing in Pakistain should have a statement like this " Bhutto was shot twice and the the one's that did it blew up every one around it so there would be no direct cnnection of evidance to a group or verfication to the event toward some one"...

I too was dissapointed that the title of this report is "Al Qaeda Killed Bhutto." In reading this I realized that much of this was an opinion piece, biased as I had expected. The American public readily consumes information about Al Qaeda, when in reality it may not have been them at all. Bhutto should be remembered for the accomplishments she has made and for the strong woman she was. By using Al Qaeda as the scape goat the US can focus on the instability of Pakistan and, I fear, further oppressive political goals. Please visit teh Al Jazeera news website for an unbiased report of what happened and NO MENTION of Al Qaeda. enlgish.aljazeera.net

Absolutely correct...without any evidence of Al-qaeda...why make them famous by crediting this assasination to them. USA must look at ground realities...come out of its terror illusions...Let investigations reveal who killed Benazir. Everyone knows nothing happens in Pakistan without their intelligence wing's (ISI) knowledge.

Musharaff is hand in glove with Al Qaeda and Lashkar E Toiba and the rest of the terrorist garbage that infects Pakistan. Unless the US and the rest of the world sees this, Musharaff will continue to harbor terrorists and lie to the world that he is with Bush on the war on terror.

    • Posted By: pamhead @ 12/27/2007 7:48:35 PM

George Bush is fighting the "war on terror?" To the best of my knowledge, that is a phrase he coined. Please. Georgie is hand-in-glove with Musharaff, and don't you doubt it for a minute. How else can they attempt to scare everybody silly and blind them to what is really happening.

Al Qaeda might have sent killers but Musharaf didn't provide enough cover for Bhuto. Not sure whether US administration is acting dumb and indeed they are dumb. If US wants to see how events happends as it...it will understand the sentiments prevail in Pakistan. General brough in Emergency to kick out Judges who challenged them. If there is one person who gained due to bhuto's assasination, its the General. Now he has become indispensible stablising force. US should stop viewing events thru its prism. Of course, US wants to protect its interets...but for God sake...don't mess up another country by continue to support an unpopular General. You dont want Pakistan to become another Iran for USA.

It has been my experience in recent times that Journalism is not the culprit involving irresponsible reporting so much as the reading public is the offender. I fear that many of those that read this article will in their personal future discussions about this catastrophe remark that ???I read an article on the internet. It was Al-Qaeda that murdered Bhutto and the other innocent victims that day.???
This article is opinion and the reporter at no time expresses it to be anything but opinion, which I, for one, appreciate. Everything in the report, in time, will prove to be correct or incorrect. The reporter has created an ???out??? for himself by quoting someone, Bruce Riedel, that most of us have never heard of or no nothing about.
I have to suggest that in the past, when Al-Qaeda has perpetrated some act of terrorism that they have not only admitted it, they have crowed about it like the morning rooster. It seems to me that, as possible as not, one of her political opponents have reason to be suspect. She certainly was not on good relations with Musharraf and Sharif???s election chances (in a fair election) increased substantially with her passing. I don???t know but I suppose that Musharraf???s forces will be in charge of the investigation as to who to blame.
Over the past 6 years politicians have used Al-Qaeda as a tool to promote fear and, let???s face it, they are certainly not on any democracy dwellers Christmas list, but I also sense that they are often used as a ???boogeyman??? of sorts by politicians and this administration to influence registered voters.

ebtex, you are so right. It's certainly convenient to have a sort of permanent bogeyman, as in the days when there was a Communist under every bed. My greatest frear is that the hawks and fearmongers in this country will use this to their advantage, and our system of government will be further denigrated for no reason but their own agendas. And just as the Presidential campaign was turning to domestic issues... Damn! A new reinforcement for paranoia and probably more "security" at the expense of the Constituion!

      • Posted By: rawone @ 12/27/2007 7:25:24 PM

there is no doubt that the editors of Newsweek would point the finger at Al Queda and the likes. Whom ever else can they blae. Perhaps they will eventuially twist the story to the lack of financial support that the US is attempting to withhold!
Let's wait and see who is the real culprit in this. Perhaps the Iowa or NH candidates can give their opinion and we can then go from there.
It is a tragedy that this type of thing happens, but to immediately blame someone or some group is also a tradgety in itself.
