At this moment of grief India has rushed forces to border while Newsweek, as west???s mouth piece, shows concern about nukes. Both these actions are indirectly supporting the people who murdered Bhutto. Let all have sense, be supportive of Musharraf required efforts to contain fires of violent reactions. A long term solution to the problem lies in supporting institutions trying to build education and removing extreme poverty, both otherwise real fuels for terrorism. Spillover to neighbors will then be contained. In real Islam killing one person is killing whole mankind.

      I don't like dictators.

One of the issues that came out in a New York Times report is that Musharraf has "rerouted" our military aid to the conflict with India. That makes him at the very least an uncertain ailly. He is protecting Al Qaeda and taking our money at the same time. Chances are he had a lot to do with Bhutto's death, either direclty or as quid pro quo for not arresting Islamic militants along with pro-democracy demonstrators. We would be better off without him if we could get a credible replacement.

America is facing the problem what India was facing for decades from Pakistani Islamic Terrorists in Kashmir. The US continued to turn blind eye to the Indian problems and continued to make India bleed by supplying arms and ammunitions to Pakistan that was used by Institutional terrorists of Pakistani army. Now when the same terrorists are making USA bleed it understands. I fail to understand why Kashmir is not mentioned one single time.

Even China has claims in Kashmir. Things we sent to Pakistan to goto the war in the North against the Soviets may have been used against India.

My dear go read your history first, Kashmir as per the agreement was suppose to be in Pakistan because it was muslim majority plain and simple, independent ruler of Kashmir at that time was a Hindu and handed Kashmir over to India for monetary and some other reasons. Kashmiris from the beginning have wanted to go with Pakistan and Pakistan has always supported them 100% politically and no other way. History is witness that India has attacked Pakistan in 3 different occassions, first in 1948, then they entered in Lahore in 1965 and then in 1971 they entered East Pakistan (so is the terrorist organization here). Not to forget the plain fact that Indian hindu extremist organizations till this date commit all kinds of inhumane activities against the muslims of India and recently have started commiting the same crimes against the Christians of India. Go read.

The chickens are coming home to roost. Both for Pakistan and the US. The region and specifically India has suffered long from Islamic terror, a lot of it institutional islamic terror - exported by the the Pakistani army and itelligence. A failed state from the begining, the world will have to gear up for Talibanization of this rouge regime.

Yep. Pakistan has played against everyone. Now they killed the one actorthat could bring stability.

Poverty and lack of education are not the root causes of terrorism.

I used to think this too, until I decided to actually educate myself on the subject. I forget his name, but the guy who came up with the ideological underpinnings of the global jihad was fervently pro-Western, and then came here in the 50's to be educated at a Western university. He left with an extremely negative opinion of America, and wrote a book that combined elements of revolutionary Marxism and cherry-picked verses of the Qu'ran.

Osama bin Laden, as it is so often forgotten, is an educated individual from a wealthy family in Saudi Arabia. The people making IEDs for the insurgency in Iraq often have formal technical educations. The people orchestrating online recruitment efforts, as well as posting videos to the internet and spoofing IP adresses to hide donations to terrorist organizations, are similarly not the uneducated people you are trying to describe.

Granted, the sort of person likely to blow himself up for a political cause probably isn't the most educated in the bunch, but the people running the global jihad are wealthy, educated technocrats. Al Qaeda's global jihad, and militant religious extremism generally, are complex issues with many root causes, and we generalize them at our own folly.

Excuse Us! Mr. Graham Alison and Newsweek Team, You guys in the west are concerned about Pakistani Nuclear weapons? Just guess the security state of your own Nuclear weapons in US! They fly over Half of the united states with them being loaded on B-52 like ordinary bomb loads and the nukes remian unnoticed for so called trained nuclear personels of US airforce and nobody cares about them but the secured weapons of Pakistan become such a big threat to world peace that you people just can't stop terrorizing the people about their harmful nature. Kindly just get you direction and attitude staight about Pakistan.

We are in big trouble extremist and children of moderates all around the world are being seduced by the chapter of JIHAD. If you look at the Madrassa's they are brainwashing futre genereations in that region with the chapter of JIHAD. IT is like subliminal indoctrination. This is very dangerous. THEY ARE TEACHING THE CHILDREN TO FIGHT JIHAD FOR one hundred years. Obama is the only candidate that can change antiamericanism in that region. It just feels right voting for OBAMA

I agree with Intekhab totally, we must put democracy on the backburner and concentrate on educating the masses. Democracy sans education, is a dangerous mix as has ben witnessed in the past elections

Do not try to tackle terrorism superficially, try to remove the factors that serve its breeding ground, poverty and lack of education. Do not rewrad leaders but support institutions that educate people.

  • Posted By: intekhab @ 12/29/2007 12:53:19 AM

educate the people and they will chose good leaders, do not give financial support to officials rather support institutions that eduacte the masses. Do not worry about extremism, its a product of poverty and lack of education

Lets face it - immature nations are all whining about not being grown up enough: it's like a Bar Room brawl happening around a childs crib (one would definitely be concerned about the child in the crib) - have some common sense.

I totally agree with what midnight is saying . This was all prepared plan from Musharraf side. He wanted to kill her from day 1. This countyr is in totally chaos and guess USA will always side them because we wan't to tame India(not making same mistake with what we did in case with China and let it go). Right now we are paying high price and Chinese do not care for us anymore. We need to get rid of Musharraf and have some one dependent person over there or else take control of this country and help Indians on other side.Look what India has done in these years and look what Pakistan is at the same time.
    When will we understand this?
