One can hardly blame Reagan for chastising those presidential candidates who would profess to channel her father. While I also cannot argue with anything she's said, and probably agree with most of it, I am compelled to ask why her view of anything merits publication in the first place. After all, if her father hadn't been president, she would have been more of a nobody than she is even given that he was.

Well written. Maybe not eloquent, but must EVERYONE in the country be so in order to be valued? Ms. Davis is probably right when she asks the Republican candidates to TRY and refrain from imitation. But then, could we expect ANY politician to refrain from imitation? Of ANY KIND? Regardless, does anyone in this great country of ours really realize we are NOT doing well on any side of the game when it comes to a REAL candidate? It scares the hell out of me! It should scare the hell out of ALL of us - regardless of the political party! YIPES!!!

dear patti, the reason so many politicians want to imitate your father is because, unlike you, they respected him

(Yawn!) Anyone remember any of her movies during her distinguished acting career? Anyone pick up the Playboy magazine in which she diplayed her class and grace? Anyone care what she thinks now?

After reading this dreary driviil, I will delight it taking refuge in the male bastion of rationalism

    What would Jesus do?
    What would Reagan do?
Nobody ever wonders or cares, "What would Bush do"?
That dumbass was all about campaigning how "Reaganesque" he was.

Same with Romney, Huckabbee, McCain and Giuliani.

Great men of all ages have stood on the shoulders of great men who went before them. The candidates are merely invoking the revered name of your father because that is what the voters said they wanted. As soon as the primaries are complete they will drop the use of your fathers name. Unfortuneately, the republican party base has a lot of bigots who are easily swayed to vote for the person that has the same hobbies, religious views, or lack of education as they do. Thankfully, the broader party is a bit more diverse. I guess it is the same situation for the democrats. You have to pretend you are rediculously liberal and short sighted in order to gain the favor of the party base. Politics...

Thank you for caring about your fathers legacy, Ms Reagan.....oops, I meant, Ms Davis. I think I'll wait for your brother and sisters article for a more thoughtful sibling analysis on any other candidates embodying your fathers qualities. You continue to appear quite shallow and one dimensional

Excellent comment. It would be nice to have a president who didn't enjoy killing, in the name of God or anything else.

Excellent article. But i'm afraid Ms. Davis hits the point when she note that "it's just an indication that the imitator is going through a serious identity crisis", the fake values associated with the 'Reagan myth' (not quitethe same as Reagan the man) of militarism and religious hypocrisy/authority are finally being recognized for the bankrupt garbage that they are.

Thank you for this excellent commentary. It doesn't seem like common sense has any part in the current campaigns. It would be good to have a president who did not enjoy killing.

Excellent article. Actually, the GOP candidates should continue to emphasize hunting and religious authoritarianism, because violence and religious hypocrisy are at the core of the current party. Even if they stopped showing it on the outside that is still what they would be.

I agree that while a candidates religion is going to influence his decision making, it should not be flaunted in front of the world as an attribute and lack of religion does not make a candidate any better or worse either. There have been many candidates and presidents with no real religion and some of them did the best work.

Personally, I don't want to know much about someone's religion as much as I want to know about what they are going to do in office AND THEN see them actually do it. If they do what they promised to do and what we need as a country, who cares which side of the religious fence they live on. Seems pretty simple, now if we could only get ALL the candidates to actually tell us what they are going to do for us and this country.

Interesting that Mizz DAVIS now cares so much for her father's name, even though she never cared enough to ACTUALLY TAKE THAT NAME as her own.

What a refreshing article written by Ms. Davis. The ususal hate mongers have commented on this article. How true we have a sitting Vice President who kills for his pleasure continually, as well as blasts another human being in the face. Refreshing to see someone look at the World in a more mentally healthy way.
