A Family Affair?

This is a matter of loyalty and not rationalism. The democracy in Pakistan needs another 50 years to capture its real shape and it would not be wrong to say that even if a dictator with a positive and broad vision can run the affairs of the country, it is hundred times better than the so called political leaders or democracy. Due to illiteracy and impoverishment, the mass is neither able to choose leaders on merit nor the leaders are of any noteworthy caliber to drive the democracy on merits.

The PPP members and supporters are not politcally minded and the party is family based more like monarchy. They are just fanatic fans. Overall in Pakistan, they neither have stars no icons - they don't have Britney Spears, Paris Hilton or Tom Cruise, the politicians are their idols. So no matter what their idols do or who they are, the fans will blindly give their support without any second thought but with fanatism.

For that matter if the PPP decided to name an urang-utan reared in the Bhutto compound as their leader to succeed Benazir it would be accepted.

I do find it sad in the way that she died. But i find it astonishing how the pakistan media are portraying her as a Marter who died for her country. Have they forgotten that this is the same women who was in power twice. and all that she did along with her husband and family both times was looting from the country with both hand's and instead of standing trial she ran from the so called country that she loved and would die for, and thencalled it self exile. Then said her husband made her do it. How the pakistanis allowed her to run there country the second time when she could not even control her own husband astonishes me. Also how can they forget she was away from pakistan for 8 years living a life of luxery with there money. Why they allowed her back i do not understand. Is this democracy or a family dynasty. Either you have democracy or you do not. Handing leadership to family members is the source of corruption. Even moderate Muslims are swayed by the JIHAD CHApter. The offspring of these moderates have already carried out attacks in England and have tried in Canada and AMerica.Wow. Homegrown Citizens. What is amazing is how they are influenced by the Iraq war. They turn on the T.V and become enraged. It is like they have smelled "BAD BARBECUE". Their only hope to strike back is JIHAD. The " Ayattolah" has used this doctrine on Salman Rushdie who is an INDIAN. The only way to deal with a nuclear threat, is in private. We should gurantee all countries FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS. However if the people choose an extremist government that wants to use weapons of mass destruction then they must understand the consequences. IT IS THESE SAME CONSEQUENCES THAT have DETERed RUSSIA FROM USING THEIR NUCLEAR ARSERNAL AS MUSCLE. WE WILL Annihlate YOU if you threaten with nuclear weapons. That is why the Middle East Governments threaten Israel because they know better. The same goes for pakistan, any government that takes power after Free and Fair Elections, will be delivered the same message, In addition, they will assist us in the HUNT FOR BIN LADEN. Keeping Bin LADEN alive seems to be making a lot of people rich.

Don???t be na??ve ASH1KHAN. Based on recent photos, Mrs. Bhutto was shot by a gunman (an assassin more likely was hired by Pakistani???s government) not by a suicide bomber. The reason that Pakistani???s government rushed to come up with fabricated lies from Friday's news conference to providing transcript of so called communication between terrorist groups, was to wash their hand as they washed the crime scene by high pressured water!!! I think there is no connection between the suicide bomber and the hired assassin. The government just want to take advantage of the situation by blaming it to suicide bomber, otherwise they will allow international inquiries to find truly who hired the assassin. In a corrupted middle east society like Pakistan, in which you can easily buy any government officials it is extremely hard to lead or to be a leader. It is really sad that PPP has done what it had been doing in the past i.e. running the party as a family business - definitely not as a democratic party. OR the so-called 'senior' leaders of the party have no confidence in them selves and they just want to get elected due to the temporary sympathy vote/ It is further regretful that despite announcing a forty day period of mourning they do not want to miss the opportunity of relying on sympathy vote. Perhaps they are afraid that the party will split up if more time was given to think rationally about the decision on party chairmanship.

I never expected it to be different because basically it is a feudal party. None of its 'Senior' leaders have any confidence in themselves and once again they will try to get back into power by counting on 'sympathy' vote. The decision not to ask for postponment just confirms this' Any normal democratic party would have requested to delay the elections beyond the fory day announced period of mourning. I am really disgusted with the party's approach.
