The Father and the Son
Benazir Bhutto's 19-year-old son is picked to lead her former political party. But her husband will be in charge for now.
Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, eldest child of Pakistan's assassinated opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, today was named co-chairman of his mother's Pakistan Peoples Party alongside his father Asif Ali Zardari. "My mother always said, 'Democracy is the best revenge'," Bilawal said in a short statement at an emotionally-charged press conference this evening at the Bhuttos' ancestral home in Naudero, Sindh.
The 19-year-old Oxford freshman, who has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a fondness for horse riding and cricket, is expected to return to his studies, leaving Zardari in charge as a kind of regent until Bilawal reaches 25, the minimum age for contesting elections in Pakistan. "The chairmanship of the party is often occupied by martyrs and I don't know how long my father will be able to keep this position," Bilawal said, in response to a reporter's question before his father cut in requesting that all questions be addressed to him.
Zardari said Bhutto's handwritten political will, dated Oct. 16, two days before the suicide bombings targeted a procession celebrating her homecoming to Pakistan from exile, had been endorsed by the party's executive committee but will not be made public. Zadari said Bhutto had instructed him to take over as the party chairman, and that he had decided to add Bilawal as co-chairman.
Zardari said the party will ask the British government and the UN to conduct a probe, along the lines of the commission that investigated the assassination of Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, into Bhutto's death. "She told us who killed her," he said. "We find the local authorities guilty." Zardari said his wife died from bullet wounds in the head and neck and rejected government claims that she died from hitting a lever on the sunroof of her vehicle. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today also called for linking U.S. aid to Pakistan to such an international inquiry.
Appealing for calm, Zardari condemned the ongoing army action against protesters and said "our fight is not with the Pakistan Army, it is with the rulers." He said he was not a candidate for Prime Minister and was not seeking any office.
The choice of Bilawal was somewhat surprising but not entirely unexpected. The rank and file wanted a Bhutto to lead the party, and some party leaders had made an unsuccessful push to convince Benazir's non-political sister Sanam to take over.

Comment: Comment: Interestingly, as per my knowledge from insiders, there was no will left by Her. How can she assign Her son as Chairman when He cannot contest election and Cannot became Prime Minister for further 15 to 16 years !! Are we living in stone-age, when emperor / queen's son is born to sit on throne. It is also shameful for party P4 (PPP-P) big guns that none of them can rule the party. Is it possible in Democratic America or UK that Bush or Gordon Brown is killed and their son / daughter / wife is nominated as their successor not by democratically consensus of party leaders but by producing a Will, allegedly written by the SOUL and the nominee is to be accepted by every party leader ! What a mystery, What a country and What a party!
If her Will is really true, it means She herself is against democracy as she nominated her son (having zero knowledge of politics) as her political Heir. Otherwise, the Will is false. PML leaders exploit it!
By the way, it was always said by P4 spokesman and also said in front of Swiss court also that A2Z (Asif Ali Zardari) is seriously ill and cannot travel. Can someone comment on this by seeing the widened smiley face of A2Z in recent press conference and newsweek this same page under "Still in Control". Also i dont know what happened to Arrest Warrants issued against him in Pakistan and Red notices issued by Interpol. Lets wait when he would be arrested, for past or his recent work in Rawalpindi with the hands of his Old friends of jail...

Comment: Baliwal Zardari will never make it to be Prime Minister of Pakistan. He will either be executed of left behind by the US who is clearly fed up with the Bhutto dynasty. The US is in favour of putting in a person who has no public support (no major political party) but rely solely on the US to be in power in Pakistan.
So forget about democracy, it is a farce!
