JUST A SMALL PIECE OF INFO ON OBAMA THAT THIS ARTICLE NEGLECTED TO MENTION. OBAMA AND RICHARDSON HAVE HAD LEANTHLY CONVERSATIONS ON FORIGN RELATIONS, CAUSE RICHARDSON HAS GOOD RELATIONS WITH MOST OF WHAT WE USED TO CALL THE "AXIS OF EVIL". RICHARDSON IS A PUTZ [ I LIVE UNDER HIM] BUT HIS KNOWLAGE IN FORIGN POLICY IS UNSURPASSED! OBAMA KNOWS THIS AND LISTENED!!!

"Heavy black vote could tip a couple of Red states into the Blue column, while those against him because of race wouldn't be voting Democratic anyway."

So, if you are a democrat, you COULDN'T be a racist? Let me tell you, racism doesn't run across party lines, and for you to say something like that is inflammatory and biased. I live in the pacific Northwest, and let me assure you democrats can be as racist as the next person. In fact, more so with the ones I know. They are still toasting Kennedy and what he did for the white collar worker, and how he helped the "coloreds", even when they didn't deserve it. Several of them want to appeal Martin Luther King's birthday as a holiday. Pretty heinous, huh? It is to ME. Shocking? Not to anyone who has an open ears and open eyes. To placate yourself into believing racism is dead except for a select few is ignorance, and to draw it by party lines--foolishness. No, my mistaken friend, racisim is alive and well, even in the forward thinking West, even by *GASP* the democrats.

Watch out for heavy black vote swing to old white guy Ron Paul. Freedom is popular, I believe it is popular for whites, blacks, Latinos, Chinese, Japanese, German, Russian, Iranian, Iraqi's, help me out, who doesn't like freedom? Oh, the main street media. They don't like freedom.

      • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 01/01/2008 4:07:01 PM

YOU FORGOT TO MENTION THE GOP DOES NOT LIKE FREEDOM EITHER OR WE WOULD NEVER HAVE LOST ONE RIGHT AS WE LOST EVEN MORE THAN ONE, NO RELIGIOUS TEST FOR THE GOP BUT YES TO THE DEMS AND RACE IS NOT GOP. THEY HATE EVERYONE UNLESS THEY ARE CHEAP LABOR. OBAMA HAS PROVEN FORSIGHT, GOOD QUALITY FOR A PRES!

NOT another Clinton. NOT a Muslim, drug using checkerboard. NOT a 2 time divorced Catholic loser. NOT a baptist fiery preacher. NOT another hollywood actor. NOT a vet who parada's on his POW status.

I FINALY FOUND WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR IN ALL THIS! AS I READ HERE WE HAVE SOLID PROOF THAT LESONS NOT LEARNED KILL LATER, AND THIS CLOWN IS THE EXACT REASON BUSH JR GOT A SECOND TERM, TO SELF DESTRUCT OUR OWN COUNTRY! THANKS FOR THE REASSURENCE IF HUMANS ARE THE SMARTEST BEINGS IN THIS UNIVERSE, THEY DON'T COME FROM THIS PLANET!

Everything you state about hillary, Guiliani, Huckabee, Thompson and McCain is true. Your 100% WRONG on Obama. He is a Christian, and HAS NEVER been a Muslim, and hasn't used drugs since his teens, and he volunteered that information. No one else has even mentioned their past drug histories, have they? I would venture to say that the most transparent and honest candidate is BARACK OBAMA! To be fair, you should give him another look, and quit speading rumors.

Don't even dignify these pathetic attacks against Obama with a response - these are brainless rantings of someone who cannot come up with a real reason to oppose Obama.

    • Posted By: Boulder Sue @ 12/31/2007 6:35:30 PM

WhoSure: what does "checkerboard" mean? I suspect I know but won't dignify with a name.

      • Posted By: ducdebrabant @ 12/31/2007 7:36:13 PM

Well I will. I take it as a racist reference to Obama's mixed-race background, and as such, scurrilous.

Thanks, Jonathon. This is a nicely written summary.

I might add that the differences between the Democratic contenders is less a matter of substance than electability and, if elected, effectiveness. I think Obama would make a truely great President. I also think Edwards could accomplish more as Attorney General in the mold of Robert Kennedy and eventually member of the Supreme Court. Richardson should lead the "Manhattan Project" size effort to free America and the world from our dependence on oil.

Here's a better analysis of the Republicans. The only chance for Republicans to win against Hillary or Edwards is Giuliani.

    John McCain has great ideas but is dull and is a terrible debater; little on camera charisma; almost too brainy for the average voter;
Mike Huckabee -- by contrast is a wonderful charismatic debater that really connects but his religious views are too extreme to appeal to moderate voters in a national election; Democrats, even Obama who really is the weakest Democratic candidate (unlike what the author of this so-called analysis writes) would have a field day with Huckabee; no wonder Bill Clinton is rooting for Huckabee and Democrats call him the "glass jaw"
Mitt Romney is the John Kerry of the Republican Party -- too aristocratic, too flip-floppy, looks good as an actor on the scene but doesn't stand a chance against Hillary.

Giuliani -- is the moderate that while not at all popular with the Christian right of the party or with anti-abortionists is right for the party in all other aspects; he is a good debater as well as being a proven do-er/leader. His stances while liabilities in the Republican nomination race become huge plusses in a general election. With a country very much LEANING ANTI-REPUBLICAN in its MOOD you need the CANDIDATE THAT IS A TRUE CENTRIST and that is GIULIANI.
I predict the Republican ticket will be GIULIANI-MCCAIN .. they get along well too and would be competitive also in many traditional Democratic states like NJ, NY, maybe even CA

Poitical, Guliani may be a good prospect in th upcoming primaries and a likely candidate to win. What most people do not realize is the fact that running NYC comes with significant executive experience which Mr. Guilani has demonstrated and the other candidates have not.

      Good luck Rudy!

      • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 01/01/2008 3:47:07 PM

i still prefere a person who at least knows the cost of bread!!! way out of touch and the NYC firefighters will sink this man who does not pay attention to the cost his own people have to pay! HIS ACTIONS DICTATE A MAN WHO CARES NOT FOR THE PEOPLE BUT ONLY FOR HIS OWN PROFIT FROM HIS PEOPLE.

  • Posted By: LiMBsY @ 01/01/2008 3:46:38 PM

mbzlarry actually stated that huckabee doens't have the experience. That's actually not true. If you want to be literal, no one who has been president has the experience of being a president except someone who has already been president! But, in terms of EXECUTIVE experience... Mike Huckabee has the most, with 10 1/2 years being a governor.

  • Posted By: LiMBsY @ 01/01/2008 3:44:52 PM

WOW, I completely agree. I feel that for the democrats, OBAMA is their best shot. A lot of people don't like Hillary. On the republican side, Huckabee is their only chance. Not even McCain. The Evangelical Christian demographic of the country is far too important, and Huckabee seems like the candidate to steal some democrats from voting democratic.

How could Obama support our troops when he won't salute the flag that they flight for?

    • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 01/01/2008 2:15:33 PM

As a Senator what gives him the right to salute our flag?? Bush was a quasi-Vet and Commander of our military he should salute! if elected he to will salute, but unlike Bush, Obama will do it with pride for our fighting men and women!

It was really disappointing that Mr. alter neglected to mention Ron Paul. I want to know what all of the noise is about, and was looking forward to someone elses opinions. I really have no idea who will be the nominee for the national election in the Republican side yet. I keep telling myself that it is still early. I am very undecided about who to vote for.

Clinton scares me not because she's a woman, but because of her extreme liberal bias and untruthfulness. Obama has said that he will effectively cripple NASA by taking away a ton of funding. Neither appeal to me. I guess I'll probably vote for the nominee of the Republicans just to try to keep those two out of office. At least I know the under the Republicans that my stocks will likely grow and the country will be safer, even if I disapprove of W's pompus showdowns of late.

    • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 01/01/2008 2:11:36 PM

Obama threatens NASA funding and all hello dolly breaks lose, but nigh a word when Bush Jr. took 1 TRILLION from the VA budget!! instead of the 90 Billion we complained about, so he took 1 TRILLION from the wounded, and Va benifits, during a WAR!! pissed yet-no-why does this not suprise me as a Veteran!

    • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 01/01/2008 1:26:30 PM

your stocks will grow, nasty way to chose someone who has the heart to make us great by retro-fitting our factories in America by Americans, not the Stock Market, and profits another country-thanks from we the people who live and try to work here in our own country! I see war is far to profitable to stop for all time! perfect example of my own therory. if humanbeings are the smartest beings in this universe, they don't live on this planet!

We need a president with experence that can start on day one being President, all though i like Obama we can't afford 8 years of on the job training (we have been down that road). Mr. McCain would have the experence but is to old for the job...our only real chance to get the country back on track is Hillary Clinton, so less hope we can say Madam President this year.

    • Posted By: campbell207 @ 01/01/2008 12:58:06 PM

Joe Biden has MORE experience than McCain, is already doing the President's job as a poster noted above, and is completely ready to be President starting on inauguration day. What in the world does Hillary Clinton bring to the table that Joe Biden does not? He is by far the most electable Democrat and we will be taking a huge chance to nominate anyone else.

HIlary has done a wonderful job of answering every question(or did since she takes no more questions) with an evasive, platitudinous answer. There is no doubt in my mind that she is a bright woman,, but her experience wanes in the light of Joe Bidens. What major legislation has she written and passes/ What major foreign than 'It take s a Village"? It amazes me that the AMerican people won't elect the most qualified operson when he is right under our noses!! policy documents has she written? What books has she written other tha

Biden,Kerry, Clinton the major writters of the MICASA act, which allows the disabled to live, or die, at home. as it allows states to pay for care direct to the family, not the senior center [yuk] but it passed, and Clinton was a very big part, just to let you know. they all do work together well [dems] when it come to the people who live in this country, not in another. the act is much more than what i said but there is not enough time or energy to put it all in here. just like how do you get to know who you want in 30 second answers?

    Where's Ron Paul?

    • Posted By: MADAMIMADAM @ 01/01/2008 1:58:41 PM

RP could definitely be a spoiler in this election, but it just seems like he's such a rogue is many people's minds, and there's so much working against him, that his "electability" would just have to be considered extremely low.

    • Posted By: ToddSmyth @ 12/31/2007 4:20:50 PM

      Who is Ron Paul?

      • Posted By: bethany617 @ 12/31/2007 8:28:59 PM

This is a reaction to those who claim that Barack Obama can't win because of his race. There are many ways that we learn racism and the one that I think is currently most predominant is that which we see in our media. We have learned racism and we can unlearn it. Barack Obama would be an exceptional president. We cannot pass up the opportunity to elect a candidate with such great qualities who would improve and repair our relations with the rest of the world.

        • Posted By: lynnmike @ 12/31/2007 9:07:22 PM

We have all learned the bad of racism, and the cultured members of our society have learned to deal with people as people. Black or white, male or female, it makes no diiference in my view.

Google Ron Paul and join the Revolution!!!!!

  • Posted By: MADAMIMADAM @ 01/01/2008 1:53:02 PM

If those racist and misogynistic undertones run as deep in politics as they do in most other facets of modern American culture, people may come out in droves just to vote *against* Obama and Clinton, perhaps in equal or greater amounts than the numbers who would come out to support them. Having something or someone to "fight against" can be a powerful motivator. That will be incredibly tough to guage though when determining "electability" because those people probably aren't going to be very honest and will not be accurately represented in the polls.

As I read each republican starting with Thompson, I thought it was getting better, and when I hit Huckabee section I was terribly excited. Somehow on MSNBC, Alter had come to realize the same thing I did, that Ron Paul was the most electable. But then Ron Paul was never mentioned. And I clicked through the next page and saw that he had moved on to the dems and I realized that I had been duped again. I keep thinking that someday I will be proven wrong, that what I read and watch is really the best efforts of the watchdog force, the journalists, the check and balance of our great nation. And then I wake up and find that the most electable candidate running isn't even mentioned. This is a new low for the media, when money doesn't matter. So what Ron Paul raised 20 million last quarter, so what millions of disgusted Americans are fed up to the point that they will break into a Huckabee office and ask "Who would Jesus bomb." I'm going to join their ranks, its time for a revolution. Right now there is love, and hope. We'll see how much longer that lasts.

    • Posted By: averagejoe @ 01/01/2008 10:45:58 AM

Earl, you have to realize that the journalists work for corporate media, who is owned by corporate comglomerates, and it boils to down our so called free press being controlled by very individuals. Mainstream reporting of this election cycle has decisively shown that only status quo, corporate interests viewpoints are allowed into the "mainstream".

I believe Mitt Romney to be the most intelligent and energetic of the candidates. He has a very strong resume of success in his home, business and political life. This makes him the most electable. It may be that anti-LDS sentiment could cut into his votes, but this religious upbringing and focus on service is part of what makes him a great husband, father, leader! I will take those atributes however he attained them! Romney 2008-2016

    • Posted By: Biden08 @ 01/01/2008 1:25:00 PM

What does Romney bring to the table as far as foreign policy experience? Personally I could never vote for an opportunist like Romney who is willing to spend and say anything to get elected. I can't wait to see him debate Joe Biden. There will be nothing left of Romney b ut his hair.

If you want healthcare, the only candidate is John Edwards. Of the 100 senators, the two that took the most money from HMO's are Senator Clinton and Senator Obama. I'm fed up with insurance CEO's obscene yearly bonus packages . My monthly payment is $600 with a deductible of $7,385 per person in our household. John Edwards will take the industry on. JG

    • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 01/01/2008 1:20:36 PM

i agree the safe Dem bet is Edwards, he is no Obama or Clinton, and so what his money came from his atty days. as an atty he did pro-bono work, and alot of low-incomed know if it's not pro-bono, you will get no justice, you can afford to enforce, good man, good common sense, and like Obama and unlike the GOP, he listens and responds in kind. time is our to take to make the discision. wish for the best, hope for what you can get, and pray it stops there!

  • Posted By: MyViews1 @ 01/01/2008 12:52:53 PM

Mormon bashing could easily have a backlash. This nation is tired of the religious right calling the shots and will ultimately decide its all right to have a Mormon as President. And, ironically, the conservative right are going to come to the conclusion that Romney is the only electable conservative that is a champion of their same concerns. Interesting situiation.

The biggest unreported stotry of this election season is that Hillary Clinton is the "old shoe" in the race--nothing cutting, nothing spectacular, nothing clever--just grind it out and smother all opponents.., She is using the political version of Woody Hayes's Ohio State football playbook: "three yards and a cloud of dust".

Hillary Clinton will not have to run a near flawless campaign to win in November. The political stock for Republicans is so low that just about any Deemocrat who does not bark at the moon will win handily. That's why there is so little interest in the Republican primary..
