It's entirely laughable to consider this article meritous. How can the author consider this argument viable? The two statements noted here are, quite obviously, factual. The author even states it. This "factcheck.org" arrticle states that both overall crime was lower and that Huckabee lowered taxes 90 times. How can they publish an author who verifies the facts of the statements and then claim the statements are false? It's ridiculous. Never once has Huckabee stated that he permanently lowered violent crimes, or that the net amount of taxes was lower when he left office than when he entered it. He is completely truthful and has been thus far. Quit allowing editorial articles like this publication as if they were factual.

I don't know where you're from, but you don't know Christians well at all. I could care less if he was a pastor in the past, a Baptist one at that (my faith). All these half-truths and undisclosed facts makes him look like a Democrat rather than a Republican. Anyone within my earshot will have the facts about Mr. Huckabee. I do agree with you on one point; there will be those out there that are ignorant to the facts and will vote for him.
But you're just as gullible as they are for actually believing that all Christians will vote for him just because he was once a pastor. By the way, they are sinners just like the rest of us.

Counting on evangelicals to shoo him into office is Huckabee"s plan. They are gullible to the half truths and outright lies of anyone who claims to be a pastor or spokesman of God. You have only to look at Jim Baker, Jimmy Sweigart and that gay guy from Colorado to realize they are easily conned. They never let facts get in the way of belief.

The highly unethical, inexperienced, and totally unsuccessful past governor of a third-rate state, the sordid Hick-he-be, has gotten far more coverage here than the viable Republican candidates contending for the nomination, particularly Romney, whose coverage has been intentionally very limited, or biased when covered, and lacking in truthful reportage. Indeed, as you are fuly aware, the Hick-he-be is that "one-time wonder" of which Romney spoke after the vacuous Christers in Iowa, with some additional help from the fourth place McCain campaign to further impugn Romney, have now openly declared a sort of partnership in New Hampshire to "bring Romney down." Do the polity agree with such antics? Why not report that envious viciousness on the part of McCain? Romney is the single best candidate but you report next to nothing about his campaign -- Why? Who cares about the Hick-he-be, a near-illiterate, dangerously inexperienced, laughably educated, and wholly unelectable candidate? His one-big-orgasm-in-Yeshua followers can't read or yet write; so why are you in essence promoting this dolt with your article, or simply by your mention of him over and over again? And why did not "Newweek" publish this very report at time of or at least prior to the Iowa causcus votes? Media bias perhaps? Or is it your hope that the Hick-he-become the nominee, as be would be the easiest candidate to defeat by a Democrat next fall, as would the cranky, infirm McCain, should he be chosen instead. Or is it the elderly McCain you back, who now takes and has taken tens of millions of dollars with both hands from lobbyists and money bundlers, before and after his Senate Commerce Committee, and who has yet to explain his dealing with Keating, who went to prison for defrauding investors, and who feels and has stated that because of his status as a POW more than 40 years ago he is thus owed your vote for some peculiar reason, or due to one of his numerous pathologies. Let's have a truthful and detailed article on McCain before New Hampshire votes, too! As well, provide some coverage that is truly fair, balanced and just equal coverage for Romney, who is far and away the best and most electable candidate in the race, which fact your writers are certainly already very much aware or should be. And please, no more coverage of your rusticated village idiot in a cheap suit! The thinking public would greatly appreciate real news about electable candidates.

just another Arkansas governor from Hope, telling us that he's the underdog while playing a musical instrument and talking about himself rather than his policies, then saying his strengths are just his opponent's weaknesses...oh wait that was Bill Clinton..or is it Mike Huckabee? man i am confused! oh i know how to distinguish them! one uses Christianity as a tool and raised taxes like a drunk Massachusetts senator. Slick Huckee, rock on!

I think it is time to recognize that Huckabee has been a successful governor longer than he was a pastor. He knows how to govern in a divided state. That will come in handy in our deeply polarized nation. He brings the heart of seasoned pastor together with the head of an effective statesman. He seems to understand what the consequences of public policy are for the people who have to live and work and sometimes even fight and die under them. I personally like that. It reminds me of both Teddy Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan who ran against their party and it was good for the Republicans that they did and that they won. It's not about his faith anymore, its about his basic good sense and his authentic kindness. His sense of humor is evidence that the man is emotionally healthy. His critics reveal more about the emptiness of their own souls than they do about the content of his ideas and character. Iowa picked up on that fact and that is why so many turned away from Romney. Now, if only Wall Street and the D.C. Beltway Crowd can will listen to what the man has to say, they may realize that he is a breath of fresh air for the party and the nation. The point is, Huckabee is a skillful uniter and that is just what America needs right now.

Huckabee will continue to try and mislead the American people on his Arkansas record. C'mon! We're smarter than that! Wake up, voters, and realize that the "information" from him is "misinformation."

Bob Novak criticized Mike Huckabee for a ???47 percent increase in state tax burden.??? But during Huckabee???s years in office, total state tax burden ??? all 50 states combined ??? rose by twice as much: 98 percent, increasing from $743 billion in 1993 to $1.47 trillion in 2005.[Source for this statistic ???Dick Morris]

FINALLY an article from NEWSWEEK pointing our the clear faults and lies of Mike Huckabee! (Let me guess - Huck will claim your magazine is "ATTACK REPORTING" and cry about that, too.

    • Posted By: albany4huckabee @ 01/03/2008 4:00:24 PM

Talk about hopeless distortions! Get it right South Carolina... Huckabee did not cry about attack reporting but dishonest reporting--which clearly Romney is guilty of. As I appreciate the credence you have all put into this critique from factcheck.org, go out to their site and read the reviews on Romney. Romney has highlighted discrepancies true, but he is also guilty of dozens of false allegations, misrepresentations and flat-out fabrications! Look it up! Newsweek also wrote a similar article a few weeks back. And deceptive?? This is national politics. You find me ONE signle candidate in the history of American politics (including George Washington) who has not been deceptive about his record and I have some oceanfront proporty in Arizona as George Strait would say. What next? Huckabee took gifts while he was in office? Know anyone who hasn't? Come on kids give us a break. Unless the gifts negatively influenced policy decisions, there's no harm and no foul. And as I've posted on other sites, there is no one, single, time-tested definition of a conservative so please stop with this not conservative enough routine. It's pulled out against Romney too and it's absurd. Stop looking for a single test by which to judge presidential candidates. As Huckabee so eloquently described it, vote for a leader, not a manager. Someone with a larger vision for the country. And if you can criticize a vision that would eliminate income tax, root out terrorist cells without launching typically liberal crusades to spread democracy, and ensure that all Americans have opportunity to share in the American dream whether that means taking on corporate corruption or government abuse, and you have got yourself a candidate. Mike's my guy. And for the record, I am far from evangelical so don't start that nonsese either!

  • Posted By: Brett12 @ 01/03/2008 10:19:00 AM

But wait a minute.... A big part of Huckabee's tax increases were forced by court order. He couldn't do anything about that! Why didn't you disclose this? What a hack job. Huckabee did a great job in state where he was forced to work with a fully democratic legislature. Arkansas is a poor state and the roads were horrific when he came into office. Commerce and economic growth are impossible without good transportation and infrastructure. The road improvements Huckabee oversaw were a wise investment in Arkansas's future. There is more to being president that proving that you can cut taxes while ignoring the state's responsibilities to it's people and future generations.

The Huckster is legendary in Arkansas for fibbing, coloring the truth, distorting, and outright lying abiout his record. Huck lied about helping a rapist get out of prison (who later raped and killed a girl), he lied about his tax and spend policies, he even lied about killing an investigation into his son torturing, hanging and then slitting the throat of a defensless dog. Come to think of it, he is the perfect candidate for the GOP...

So, then...he was lying in the ad when it flashes he reduced the overall crime rate? You mean because there is one aspect of crime that was higher, and everything else was lower...including the "overall crime rate" which was what was claimed in the ad...it's a lie? Very confusing attack of this man, Huckabee. Seems llike his claim in the ad was truth on the crime part. If he claimed violent crimes only were down and they were not...I think that would be misleading. Not quite intentional misleading such as, " I have the endorsement of the NRA." Or, " I saw my father march with Martin Luther King Jr."

Both Huckabee and Mit Romney are ouright liars. No free thinking American should even consider voting for these neocons

  • Posted By: callmenow @ 01/02/2008 10:04:17 PM

Huckabee is being funded by the liberal media. Free publicity from the liberal media.

Lets hope this isn't too late with voting starting tomorrow in Iowa.

Mitt Romney has been pounding away as these glaring discrepancies for some time now because it looked as though others might give Huckabee a pass for varying reasons.

For those who will be looking again for someone to support visit www.evangeliclesformitt.org for intelligent discussion on how evangelicals can support Mitt Romney.

Huckabee appeared likeable to the masses at one debate. But the fact is he is underqualified for office. His record on key GOP issues is poor. Hopefully, the people in Iowa will see past his folksy charm.

Old huck is not the GOPs man. He has no money and is deceptive. See ya later Huckie
