This is a great article and offers a refreshing different perspective from the media's stuck narrative of it only being "ethnic" and "tribal" Generational issues is being pushed aside, when 70% of Kenyans are under 30, thats an important statistic. Also, most of the protesters are youth. Good work here.

I take exception to mfenwick's careless and demeaning comments that Kenyans should have remained a British Colony to be better off. For the record, the Britons propagated the situation that gave rise to ethnic animosities after they left the country. 44 years into our independence, Kenyans are capable, nay; have proven capable of self-governance. The constitution and institutions of governance that the British left Kenya with only served to set everyone up. Kenya's second president, Moi, was a trained teacher and is successor, Kibaki, is an economist and not some spear wielding, rat-eating god. I gather by mfenwick's sentiments that he is white and would have loved to see Africa in the throes of colonial masters whose only purpose in Africa was to plunder our natural resources. Despite the happenings in Kenya, we will rise. We will secure our pride and forge ahead. And oh, by the way, rats are treated as the venom they are and are not a staple food as your unschooled self would want others to believe.

      Mgosi wa kaya,
celebrity1176, should not try to fool around with other kenyan tribes.people have now realised that the kikuyu are running an independent state, making others their slaves, thats why kibaki does not want the international community to know about it.We are not looking back.We will have our own sonn.

Since when have Kenyans proven themselves capable of self-rule? When the Brits ruled the country they put a stop to all the ethnic violence. When they left the old animosities resurfaced. It's the same situation in eastern Europe now that there is no more communism. All the old tribal differences thousands of years old were suppressed under the communists but when communism fell the rivals picked up where they left off. Just how did the constitution and institutions of governance the Brits left in Kenya set them up for failure?

This country would have been better off to have remained a British colony. But no, they wanted their independence and to be ruled by a bunch of idiots running around throwing spears, eating rats, dancing around a bonfire and worshipping some weird god. No, they got what they deserved. If they wanted a better life they would have done something years ago. Let 'em go.

I wish Newsweek journalists that are so talented can investigate the role of the Kenya Nation Newspapers in this mess. You might be able to find some very juicy things on how Kibaki and his people prepared to steal a presidency meticulously and how they are trying to manage the disaster the resulted.

    Some hints:-
    1. ???too close to call??? meme
    2. opinion polls that did not tally up
    3. exit poll that is quixotic
    4. peace call immediately after announcement of Kibaki as winner
    5. ???be a statesman and step back Raila... and you will have your turn in 2012??? meme

    6. Raila - ???be a strong opposition leader???
    7. ???genocide??? meme ??? ask who and where it appeared first in the kenyan mass media
    8. no ???Kibaki resign??? campaign - (he is a disgrace to a common man's morality)
    9. no report on a press conference in which 8 or 9 ???ministers??? including law professor Kibwana can't
provide evidence for government genocide claims and running away from the interview
    10. no report on loads of buses leading a government security institution after midnight with lights off

    11. with special appointment letters from the president
    12. reporting what ECK chairman confessed in a contradictory manner: the evidence can be found on
    youtube

Keep in mind that Kibaki's people have some world class spin doctors trying to massage his thuggery
and fraudulence. This guys are better prepared after studying Bosnia, Rwanda and second world war attrocities and strategies.

Its quite an usual for innocent people to go through this voilence after the disputed relection of Kibaki. One issue i would strongly stress across african leaders is the sweet of leadership and presidence overwhelmes you. if you can't give what you promised step out for other to try. remember you were accorded a chance to rule when you came into office.Rigging does not help if you can't fulfill your prior promises.it is now a trend of african elections to rig.Shame on us africans.
