The president's secret Thanksgiving trip to Iraq prompted predictable gushing from major media. As we head toward a presidential election, mainstream media and their pundits are telling us Bush will be difficult to beat. What mass media don't discuss much is their own role in public opinion and public ignorance, two measures that run hand in hand.

That half or more Americans think Iraq was involved in the 9/11 attack -- perhaps the most media-covered event in our history -- stands as a horrific indictment of U.S. media today. Such levels of ignorance can't be found in other countries.

Americans who are fundamentally misinformed about 9/11 provide the bulk of those tallied in polls as supporting Bush and the Iraq war. Subtract them from polls and Bush is an unpopular president -- widely seen as having accomplished a bait and switch, redirecting U.S. anger and vengeance toward a country that did not attack us.

The run-up to the Iraq war offers a case study in news bias: how mainstream media, especially television, were incapable of getting the truth out in the face of administration lies and innuendo about Iraq's 9/11 role and weapons of mass destruction.

    In The Year 2030

I was waken by the roosters and looked out into the street below. The street is partially filled with a multitude of children and observant veiled women. No dogs are seen or heard, they are unclean and considered evil. On the corner of the street is a flock of goats. In place of lawns, are weeds and patches of corn and other garden vegetables. It is not hard to hear the language of the street, ???Spanish???. An occasional old pickup filled with armed militia drives by. The only parked cars are apparently disabled. I see a group of men sitting out in front of a small café. They appear to be drinking coffee and by the raised voices, are talking about Sharia law. A couple blocks away is a house of worship. It is not a church but a mosque and from a loud speaker comes the call to prayer in Arabic.

It is hard to believe that in my grandfather???s day that this was called The United States of America. But due to illegal immigration and the out of control birth rate, the land is now basically Latino dominated by Islam. After the trashing of the United States of America???s Constitution by the politically correct on the left and the money on the right, the country was transformed into a Spanish-speaking people. The country became a population of have and have-nots. But that did not last for long. Not unlike the 1910-1920 Mexican revolution, the haciendas (gated communities) of the rich were taken over (with much lose of life) by the socialistic masses of the Latino have-nots. With no centralized government, the already entrench Islamic jihadist saw the opportunity and began the forced conversion of the masses to Islam. After the forced conversion, wholesale terror has waned, the mass executions have now subsided but the baseball fields are now used for violations of Sharia law. Dhimmis (non-Muslims) are allowed limited freedoms but are under close scrutiny. After prayer I guess I will walk to the local market and buy some food. The market is basically void of any food supplies but that is all right, I don???t have any money.

The Southern border fence was never completed and the Latino influx and colonization of the southwest lead to the diffusion and saturation of the entire Nation. The Islamic migration and Sharia law came across the Canadian border. Checking grandma's shoes at the airport didn't help.

Representative Government and the bus driver, after 9/11

The more things are different, the more they are the same. Events like 9/11 and December 7th, 1941 have impacted this country. However, as the psyche of this country changes over time, it appears we collectively, are willing to forget history. History is cyclic and if we don't learn from our past mistakes, then we will see more 9/11s. Our politicians appear to have their own agendas and are not looking out for the rest of us. Islamic Terrorism and Illegal Immigration are interconnected. The security of this nation is dependent on sound policies for both these issues. Our politicians are willing to look the other way, as they play their parts, in the culture of "politics as usual".

A plug nickel has two sides. It has an imaginary head's side and an imaginary tail's side. If you toss the plug into the air you will have a 50:50 chance of, either heads or tails, when it lands. It can also be viewed as having a left side and a right side. One side is the Politically Correct side and the other side is the Money side. The plug nickel is what it is, a plug nickel (worthless). Whatever political party is in charge is a gamble. In politics, it is politics-as-usual, good ol' boys (and girls) club. If you think things are going to change, when your party (congressmen and women) and candidate for president are elected, think again. Today, both political parties are filled with opportunists. The day has passed when we can send our neighbors to Congress, to represent us.

It is as if we have chartered a bus. The bus is Representative Government and the bus driver is our Representatives. The problem is that the bus driver is drunk, drunk with power. The bus is now out of control and we are racing toward the edge of a precipice. Below is a quagmire of Islamic Terrorism and Illegal Immigration, waiting to swallow us. As we cry out, the bus driver is telling us to shut up and sit down.

Not to mention..... I just graduated from college and have been looking for a sticken job for 2 months, have 5 children, bills, gasoline payment, and other living expenses to survive! And these people are working? Here. In my country, and I am not?

    Amnesty THIS!

  • Posted By: Torqued @ 02/14/2008 1:33:34 AM

If they give amnesty to these people for breaking laws, then give me amnesty for laws that I have broken.

    Wiped clean!

If I an American citizen, born in the U.S. can't have amnesty, then why should they?

This is amazing! It's all about illegal immigration. Nothing about their position with respect to LEGAL immigrants who, having done nothing wrong, are deprived of basic rights (like a right to leave an abusive employer, or simply get a promotion or a raise, a right to work for spouses, etc.) and discriminated against for many years because the "process" of obtaining a mere residence permit, "green card", has been stretched into infinity and all the attempts to provide any relief to LEGAL, mostly high-skilled, workers have been successfully blocked in Congress for the last several years. As, if more than a million of such immigrants who are not allowed even to call themselves "immigrants" just don't exist! Hey, you, yes, you who say that you are "anti-illegal immigration but not anti-immigrant", how about increasing "immigration quotas", huh? Forget about the new arrivals (less than 40% of all adjustment of staus granted) for a moment. What is the goal of putting caps on the number of green cards given to people who have lived in the country LEGALLY for many years, are eligible for "permanent residence" and, hence, are not going to leave? The answer: to "provide preferences to Americans". Read: to be able to discriminate against "aliens". Again, never mind these "aliens" have LEGALLY lived, worked, paid taxes and SS, (for which they are not eligible and will not get the money back if they leave) here for many years! How are these "aliens" not "Americans"? How long did it take to your ancestors to obtain full rights upon arrival and become "Americans"?
This country obviously wants to keep large numbers of people in not one but three categories (legal permanent residents, legal "temporary workers, "illegals") without full rights for as long as possible and doesn't even want to admit this! it will pay a dear price for this bigotry. In fact, it already is already paying it ... Oh, BTW, slavery was a law. So, anybody who fought against it was violating the law, right?

Most illegal aliens who are already here are usually very hard working people who sometimes take up to two very low paying jobs to better their lives. Why do we not want that type of work ethic here? Because they broke a law by coming here? What about the companies that hire them to benefit from their cheap labor? They are the ones that perpetuate the problem by hiring illegal aliens.

12 million illegal aliens only amount to 3% of the total U.S. population. People claim that they are a burden on the economy because they use up welfare but most illegal aliens don???t because they???re not eligible. And how much can a 3% of the population be consuming in terms of social services to make a significant impact on the economy.

Illegal aliens have been demonized to be viewed as criminals, terrorist and a drain to the economy but it???s all wrong. They commit the least amount of crime because they???re too busy working and have no time for crime. They love this country because they have found an opportunity their own country could not provide, and they also contribute to the economy by taking these low paying jobs that in turn bring cheaper products to our table.

Most republicans need to stop using illegal aliens as targets for their own political gain. We are dealing with hard working immigrants looking for a better live. We are not dealing with cattle, and a huge fence will not solve the problem. Many illegal aliens come from all over the world on tourist visas and they just stay here. A big wall will not work!

We need to allow them to stay and legalize their status. Require them to pay any back taxes if they owe any, not allow them to participate in any welfare for at least 5 years, and require them to pass an English exam. We should deport any real criminals and impose heavy fines (and enforce these fines) on companies that hire illegal aliens to stop the problem.

it's nice to read this article, void as it is from dogma and fanaticism. Too bad the lead comment falters so badly...

I really wonder how we'll look back on this immigration debate 20 years from now. My guess is that we'll say we were debating the wrong thing, and that it was a major distraction from things that really mattered.

I don't see any reversal to the globalization movement. Business and people are moving around more. As long as a country has a successful economy, foreigners will want to come and participate in it. Watch China over the next 10 years! Tho there are some hazards, it's a good thing. Yes, it means that language borders will blur and everyone in a country may not have the same color of skin, or the same cultural priorities. But welcome to the future, folks! The only thing to stop this process is probably a really awful disaster, and I don't think anyone wants that.

What we should be debating is how we manage the environment and social integration in the face of these changing times!

The Democrats are all pro amnesty. If you are pro legal immigation, anti illegal, you have no where to go but to the GOP. There the only real choice is between MItt and Fred. Rudy and McCain and Huckster all are pro amnesty.

And amnesty is racist. It gives a huge preference to Hispanic Americans over al other Americans in timing and number of family members and ethinci group being brought it. Our Constitutions anti discrimination and equal protection clausese do not allow this.

But the "elite" as David Brooks of the NYT calls them, have a bipartisan agreement for free trade /nafta (read north ameican union), which will produce major profits. He fails to mention the profits go to the "eltie" not the averaga American. He went after Lou Dobbs for screwing it up.

That is why the politicians, business and media never ask for legal immigrants to replace the illegals leaving; they want only Mexicans to further the NOrth American integration.
