Offended by Obama? I am. Obama states: "I am a black man". He isn't any more black than he is white. He is a "halfie" - no problem with that unless you are pretending to be something your not which is what is doing. He portrays himself as 100% black. His mother has lighter skin than either of my parents and I'm 100% white. As a white, I'm extremely offended he denies/ignores his white heritage. If he wants to offend whites, he sure has. How would blacks feel if Obama started calling himself "A white man"? They would be offended too. I can't vote for someone who can't embrace his true racial heritage. Also, his cocaine use is dispicable ( I have no personal friends that have ever taken cocaine) - there are plenty of candidates who don't have a troubled past as his. Also, very very little experience. Obama is a disgrace and a joke. If he wants to be 100% black, let the true blacks vote for him - believe me there aren't enough to elect him in office. By the way, I would vote in a heartbeat for Condoleezza Rice (a 100% black woman) who doesn't have to pretend to be 100% black.

        this coment is for Kevforthruth,

I don't think Obama has denied his white side , after all his white mother and grandparents did raise him. But seriously he didn't make the rules if you saw him walking down the street or if he wasn't running for office would you know these facts about him and just view him as another "black man". As far as the issue of black and white , it never existed Europeans brought those labels to make themselves feel superior, many years before and sometimes even now the keep that level of superiority they would distance themselves from blacks or anyother group that didn't fit that mold. Am curious why now he has to be claimed , is it because of his background..hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I see that comments are allowed and we have a right to free speech. The comment by Damon44 on 01/04/04 is the kind of crap that America and the World need to rid itself of and not allow it to be seen.

Obama's victory in Iowa has enabled me to discard my apathy for politics long enough to say -- "YAY OBAMA! YOU SHOWED THEM!"

Count me in as another white voter who is sick and tired of the "Obama is unelectable" crap. Keep on truckin' we'll show them.

  • Posted By: Rick W @ 01/04/2008 6:32:07 AM

Thank you Iowa for showing us what fools ye be. Sadly I live in Iowa. Read up on how the Democratic caucus works, the results would have been far different in a genuine primary election the real numbers are far different than the % points show. The two "annointed ones" can't change a thing in Washington. Perhaps New Hampshire will show some common sense with a true primary.

America wake up, changing a president does not equate to change unless you change where the laws are really made. You elect a new prsident but keep electing the same good old congressmen and senators. Neither of the annoited ones from last night have the depth to change anything, talk is cheap. Action and doing what you said end once you get to Washington, well that's a whole different thing.

    • Posted By: shouaxx @ 01/04/2008 9:24:51 AM

I love your point, I feel the same way, this talk about change has really not been upfront with Obama and especially hucka what?

  • Posted By: jamal2483 @ 01/04/2008 9:23:54 AM

Damon, let us focus on the moment ahead, and let's be greatful for this great moment that happened last night. I think Barack Obana wil bring about change to politics, a system so rigs and corrupt by republican for 12 years. I think instead of being mad , I think you should try to learn about the man, or better yet buy his book.Last night it was not muslim who voted for him it was america. He is not the one benefiting from the oil gauging of saudi arabia but President Bush is, so let's get this clear. The man is a pure american and lets embrace him.

Obama is young enough to still be semi-idealistic and true to some of his convictions. While I may not agree with some of his ideas I can respect him. I don't trust Huckabee and being from the bible belt I can tell you this: NEVER trust a born again completely. There are good people that go to church (creepy in their belief systems but basically good) every Sunday but they are equal in number to the horrible people who go to church to make themselves feel better or to appear less horrible to others. The evangelical movement is as big a danger to our freedoms and way of life as any we have faced. I know. I WAS one as a youth but escaped thanks to having been taught a little logic and reasoning by my parents. I have been a fiscal Republican and still consider the kind of taxation and money stolen from us to fund social security by our current system to be an afront to everyone who cherishes true freedom. However, the pervasive and dark existense of the socalled "religious right" in what was once the great party of Jefferson and Lincoln has completely lost it's luster. I'll be voting for Obama if he pulls it out. The first time ever that I'll be voting for a Democrat for President. Common Obama and Romney. They're the two best choices by far.

    um....isn't grammar spelled G-R-A-M-M-A-R, not G-R-A-M-M-E-R?.....way to go, peo905

damon44- its precisely comments like those that make the world population snicker at Americans..."dumb muslim black child"..."hatred for USA"..get a grip

  • Posted By: mhurst1182 @ 01/04/2008 9:18:21 AM

Who cares if Barack is half muslim, and half african american...maybe that's what we need- a president as diverse as our population.

  • Posted By: manamice24 @ 01/04/2008 1:41:59 AM

His father is not black...he was muslim...a radical muslim and so was his stepfather whom he was raised by.... so what if he was born in hawaii....he is a muslim...swore into the illinois senate with his hand on the KORAN...America wake up...you want a muslim...or "former" muslim running our nation!! I dont care if he went to a catholic school for 2 yrs big deal...Nice cover up...certainly dont want him as a commander and chief!!

God how I agree with you!!!!

    • Posted By: odolea @ 01/04/2008 3:49:05 AM

With due respect, I think you have some other issues other than the statement you made in your post. Where did you get your facts that Obama is a muslim; Since when has America become a country whose leadership is based on which religion you belong to? Please do some research before you post such blatantly incorrect claims. Obama is not a muslim.

    • Posted By: odolea @ 01/04/2008 3:05:22 AM

Huh? Where did you get all this information that Obama is a muslim? I'm baffled that you could post this type of information without first verifying the facts. The old order is crumbling fast. New systems of life and activities are emerging; it is our responsibilities to study and use these changes for the betterment of our children for the future generation. Long Live America!!!!

    • Posted By: tremendousbrunette @ 01/04/2008 2:34:42 AM

People from Kenya are generally considered "black." And how do you define "radical?"

    • Posted By: Sity10 @ 01/04/2008 2:05:09 AM

I don't really know where you are getting your information, but Barack Obama is not a muslim, nor was he sworn into office with his hand on the Qur'an, you may be thinking of Keith Ellison of Oregon, as he was the first American politician to be sworn into office on the Qur'an in 2006. Also, Obama's father, although brought up in a muslim environment, was an atheist. He was not raised by a stepfather, as when he was ten he went back to Hawaii to live with his grandparents. Further, his father did not die of a car accident until 1982, when Obama was 21. I doubt he was being raised by a stepfather when he was 21. So, concidering all your 'facts' are wrong... Unless you want to claim his mother's paretns were radical muslims, too, you don't really have anything to stand on.

The real problem with Iowa is that Republicans can vote in the Democratic caucus. That skews the results. I would like to see the results without Republican influence. I think the primary results will give us a better indication on who we want as our next president. May it be Hillary!!!

    • Posted By: dewcooper @ 01/04/2008 9:14:09 AM

The Dems also toss out votes for candidates who get less than 15percent of the total vote, forcing them to re-cast for another candidate. I would be curious as to what the original vote was and how many voters actually picked another candidate first.

  • Posted By: cl2walker @ 01/04/2008 9:13:49 AM

I am all for discourse based upon the facts, but blatant misrepresentation is just wrong. This person quotes snopes but fails to mention that snopes in fact, disproves the claim that Obama is a muslim of any sorts. See for yourself at http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp. Critenour, if you don't like Obama because of his views on healthcare, taxes, national security, etc then fine. State your case and support your candidate, stop the foolishness.

I am proud that we have come so far, as a mother of biracial children [the eldest 30] I finally believe that racial equility is within reach in this country!

Thank you, Obama. You are a breath of fresh air. I'm so sick of the "cookie cutter" politicans. They are so transparent and boring.

here in our own United States...better heed this and pray about it and
    Share it.
We checked this out on 'snopes.com'. It is factual. Check for yourself.
    >Who is Barack Obama?
    >Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born
    >in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM
    >from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHIEST from
    >Wichita, Kansas.>>>>>>YOU DUMMY-LETS ASSUME OBAMA REALLY IS A CLOSET MUSLIM-SO WHAT-NOT ALL MUSLIMS ARE LUNITICS, BENT ON TERROSISM-IF ANYTHING HE MAY ENCOURAGE GOOD BEHAVIOUR-HE MAY BE THE VERY ONE ABLE TO BRING SOME PEACE INTO THIS WORLD-THE FACT THAT HIS BACKGROUND IS SO MIXED AND MULTI-FAITH-MULTI CULTERAL IS A GOOD THING- HILLARY HAD MY VOTE UNTIL SHE WHEELED OUT HER LYING CHEATIN HUSBAND

  • Posted By: someonenew @ 01/04/2008 7:14:21 AM

The reason I don't want Obama to win is that he, A Black American, will inherit and be blamed for the mess this country is in now. It can not be cleaned up over night. I wouldn't wish this on any of the Candidates, but especially a black person..

    • Posted By: jmsr @ 01/04/2008 9:09:24 AM

You are right about the "mess" this country is in. Just look at the price of gasoline, natural gas, liquid propane, food, the housing bubble that has burst and many other adverse things that have happened since the democrats took over the House and Senate in January of 2007. They have taken our country to its lowest level in history in less than a year. With an approval of 11%, they are less than half that of our President.

  • Posted By: History @ 01/04/2008 8:35:02 AM

I think the fact that Barack Obama is articulate, educated, knowledgeable, and a positive spirited individual are his important characteristics ( racistamerica). Why does race always have to emphasized??? Perhaps the good people of Iowa are not all racist ???? You realize that a vast majority of the people of Iowa are white don't you? Why would a white person vote for an educated black man if they feared him.???? Your comment is illogical and inept.

    • Posted By: dewcooper @ 01/04/2008 9:08:22 AM

Why is it that if you chose not to vote for Obama you are racist?
