There is something wrong with this country when one caucus has the power to decide something so important, and money is the most important asset in determining who will be our next Presidential nominee. Not who will do the best job for "We the People". Please read John Edwards' Plan to Build One America!

I to like Edwards very much, his ideas or rebuilding THIS country before we try rebuilding others is a popular and good for the people IN this countries best intrests, but! I f by chance Edwards does not fair well [ most likely due to funding not heart] and does throw in with Obama! Obama has shown he likes to sit back and listen to great ideas, and incorperate it into his own, he learns quick, and has a tendecy to tap those whith more knowlage than himself for answers he does not know, but would like to find out, he is not a "set in stone mentality" he adapts quickly, and is to new to be to corupt. In other words he has alot to offer, and the mentality and heart to do it, as does Edwards! I will vote my heart, but i will also follow my hearts choice to!

I just want to make a small comment. It seems that in this country,if a person is not a white, christian,or has an " American " name( what in the world would be an American name?),there seems to be some sort of problem among the minority of throwbacks.I don't understand people who think this way, they seem to be the problem with this country. These are people who turn a blind eye to real problems until things get out of hand .They need to see someone there that represents themselves,no matter how poorly the outcome. But the new generation is sick of the same old thinking.People are looking for the best candidate, not the candidate that only represents the old world way.America has and always will be a mix of many races, religions, cultures and creeds. We are not all white, christian, male or have American names, yet we work, pay taxes, serve the military, and have pride in our nation. Please, leave your pejudices about sex, race, names and religion where it belongs,in it's demonized past.

To History/all- What are the most import issues for America? My issues are based on justice and equality for all-(a) fair equal wages that covers the cost of living not be a temporary band-aid; (b) affordable housing -fair housing practices with tighter oversight over martgage companies, realtors, etc. so this housing fiasco doesn't occur again (c) health/dental care for all; (d) quality and afordable education for all (e) bring troops home (f) high cost of gas/energy (g) better stewardship of our resources; (g) regaining the value of the American dollar

if he wins the right to run I will for the first time in my life have to put a sack over my head and vote for a republican. as will a lot of other democrats. it's not because he's a Black Man. it's because we do not need another bush in office.

Uuuuuuhhh. Wow. You are an idiot if you think Obama just means a continuation of cronyism and corporate greed.

I am proud to be living in a country where people stand up and yell to anyone that can hear them "My best friend is BLACK!!" Are they giving tax breaks for this now? Awards? If I had a dollar for everytime I heard that defense, I'd be running for President also!! Yeah.....

Iowa has no idea what they are doing. This will total upset the country. Is he even American? His name tells me he has some kind of Bin Lauden in him. I find him distrusting and not enough knowledge to turn this country around from the crappy Bush era. When I seen him on Oprah before this mess even started you could tell his wife feared him if she dare say something wrong. I don't like him and I am tried of our nation full of idiots making the wrong decisions in their voting. If we the people cannot make better choices than this then we do not deserve to have free voting.

To everyone who posts comments on message boards- please learn spelling and grammer. What you have to say may be very valid and important but sending the message with poor grammer and incorrect spelling takes away from your point.

How can we as Americans support someone (Obama) who will NOT even give allegiance to the American Flag? Hey guys, this is really scary.

If Obama wins the nomination, I will be not be voting Democratic this year.

    • Posted By: grbryant @ 01/04/2008 11:22:50 AM

Exactly. If he is nominated there will be a lot of democrats not voting or perhaps even voting republican.

  • Posted By: chasm11 @ 01/04/2008 11:21:42 AM

it seems strange that your article makes referance to the number of blacks in south carolina, i thought we were all americans no matter the color of our skin. but apparently the media seems to see this differntly.

  • Posted By: georgina26 @ 01/04/2008 11:21:41 AM

These next 4 1/2 weeks are going to be intense. Never in history had so many competent candidates gone this far. We have an African American and a woman running! Wow! I agree with a comment I saw posted just now that we can judge people for their preferences, just b/c someone doesn't agree with Obama's views (I personally don't see why) doesn't mean there's racism involved nor is ther sexism involved just b/c Clinton is not someone's favorite. This presidential campaign has become what America is all about, about diversity and equal opportunities! Obama is strong and I hope that he remains that way. I feel that America need someone like him in the White House. We see what we get and it's quite a refresher after having Bush in the house!

BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA. RAISED AS A MUSLIM IN ISLAMIC INDONESIA

    • Posted By: bluecurmudgeon @ 01/04/2008 10:57:13 AM

Get your daughter / sister off your lap, put down the bible, turn off the NASCAR channel, and open the window, you definitely need some fresh air!

      • Posted By: grbryant @ 01/04/2008 11:05:48 AM

You need to wake up and pay attention, to what could actually happen to the US with someone from the Islamic faith running the country. I don't watch Nascar, but that doesn't make me any better than anyone else.

        • Posted By: bluecurmudgeon @ 01/04/2008 11:18:11 AM

Sorry that was an insult to Nascar. The Governor of California was born in Austria. Does that automatically make him a Nazi? Obama is not a Muslim, but even if he was, what difference would it make?

    • Posted By: SIU_DEM @ 01/04/2008 11:01:58 AM

      Comment: Hey OB1,
First: He was not "raised" in Indonesia, he was raised in Hawaii. He lived in Indonesia for only two years. Second: What difference does his middle name make?
Third: It's time for us to address actual issues instead of falsehoods, half-truths, and innuendos. We need to get behind this kind of cynicism that assumes that people are too stupid to look at the issues and ideas and make the best choice. This country was founded on a vigorous exchange of ideas, and nothing is more American than that. I'd rather support someone with a different middle name and American ideas than someone who looks good on paper but doesn't understand the core ideas that make our country great.

I sincerely hope that the Republicans can see that if Obama is nominated by the Democratice party they will be in for a fight.
My concern is that a man or woman who does not stand and place his hand over his heart to show he believes in our country and did not place his hand on the Bible when he was sworn in as a Senator rather used the Koran does not show me he has an agenda that is not in the best interest of the United States. This country was founded on Godly beliefs and we were given freedoms by the Constitution. I do not see Obama believeing in our country.
I see Clinton as wanting nothing more than to destroy free speech, she is a staunch supporter of Media America, which wants to make talk radio shows controlled by the FCC to a point that you will only be able to hear the view of the Liberals and the Conservatives will be pushed off the air. Do we want free speech or what we hear is only what the Liberals want us to hear. We know where Clinton stands on free speech, why is she so bent on trying to get the Fairness Doctrine put into law? The Democratic national platform in 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004 attempted to impose the Fairness Doctrine. Read the document and see who benefits!!
Where does Obama stand on free speech for all, defense of this country and a strong military? It comes down to when will America wake up to see what is happening to our country. The Democratics in the Clinton/Gore era did more damage to this country's security than any previous administration. They sold and gave China high tech information, materials, computers and etc which allowed China's military to advance to a stage that they are now a threat to the free world(read articles and books by not only Liberals but also Conservatives. Hillary Clinton will reinstate that same type program. The Clinton's do not believe China is a threat--GET REAL.
WAKE AMERICA-ASK THE CANDIDATES THE QUESTIONS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO OUR CONTINUED EXISTENCE!!! The candidates always say "It is time for a change!" What type change?

He did not use a Koran when he was sworn in, that was a member of Congress from Minnesota. If you need to resort to racist accusations, at least get it right.

      • Posted By: SIU_DEM @ 01/04/2008 11:14:14 AM

Not that saying he is a Muslim is racist, but implying that it is a bad thing if he were is. However, it is completely besides the point because he is a Christian. I personally am an agnostic and do not give a crap about what his religion is, as long as it is not radical and is willing to see the good in other religions. However, that seems to matter to a lot of people, so it is important to note that his is a Christian. However, all of you out there implying negative things about Islam and mischaracterizing who Obama is need to stop

    • Posted By: tremendousbrunette @ 01/04/2008 11:10:20 AM

Obama was not sworn in on the Koran. He is a Christian and was sworn in using a Bible. Representative Keith Ellison of Minnesota was sworn in on the Koran, not that there's anything wrong with that. He also seems to be a decent and moral man who has the best interests of this country at heart.

  • Posted By: readandlearn @ 01/04/2008 11:14:04 AM

I do not understand why so many people are willing to latch onto half truths, falsehoods and prejudiced sound bites (racial, religious and political) and pass them on as factual. While I like Obama, I am not yet certain that he is my first choice candidate, but my decision will be based on my reseach into candidate positions and the best information I can find . . .not on what others want me to think. Only through an informed electorate can we have a democratic society. So don't try to say that Obama will not give allegiance to the flag or that Obama is not a Christian in an attempt to sway or scare other voters. Don't say that 57% of his support came from 17 to 29 year old voters when a simple search of voter breakdown in Iowa will show that Obama won 57% of the 17-29 year old vote. He also won 42% of the 30 to 44 year old vote as well as a majority of the women's vote. Don't say that Republicans tried to skew the vote toward Obama, when approximately the same percentage of voters who were not registered as Democrats participated in this caucus as did in 2004. In short, each of us should become educated voters and we should support the candidate who we believe will take the United States in the direction we believe it should go.

It would be nice to hear about issues and not about generalized and innaccurate character assasination. I think decisions should be made by considering what the candidates say about the issues America sees as important.

    • Posted By: blueshadow @ 01/04/2008 11:13:07 AM

yeah! that's right issues matter, so people should look at obama's view on those issues not ask about all that nonsense about his past!

  • Posted By: Emerld232 @ 01/03/2008 11:15:44 PM

ARGH! It's stupid articles like this that stampede people into voting for the 'favorite'.

There should be a law, no fawning articles until after the primary season is over.

They did the same thing to John Kerry after he won New Hampshire, if people had been able to take their time and make up their minds, we'd get a better quality of candidate.

    • Posted By: Cookie In PA @ 01/03/2008 11:25:59 PM

Enter Your CommentEmerld232, you are SO right. People need to really thik about their vote and what candidate they truly believe will work for their interests. They shouldn't vote for who the media tells them will be the winner. If Obama wins this nomination, we will be defeated yet again.

      • Posted By: Michael_B @ 01/04/2008 11:13:00 AM

...and what if Obama wins based on people trusting his word, believing he is the best candidate for our country at this point in time? Does that mean we are defeated yet again? Ultimately that is what it comes down to - that is OUR democracy at work. Then he will have 4 years to prove himself, have a staff that has a chance to prove themselves, and as a nation we should support [whoever the elected president is] and give them that chance. I half agree with you, but don't vote against anyone just because they are ahead or behind in the polls; vote for the BEST candidate.

I fully support Obama winning this election, but it didn't start because Iowa confirmed what has been the general opinion of alot of people. The one thing that terrifies me is the media will stamp out good presidential candidates like Obama or Edwards. The fact every media outlet has done nothing but say Hilary is unstoppable since the begining, only to be wrong when the voice of the people is revealed, gives me hope that our society has enough sense not to jump on board with a bad candidate just because the press says so. Maybe if the press would focus on what is important in this race, the quality of the candidate, rather than trying to create problems or jump on bandwagons, our country will have a chance of putting a person in the White House who has a conscience and a brain in their head.
