My son Christopher is one of the field organizers mentioned in your article I read online. He has been working tirelessly In Fort Madison Iowa and the surrounding counties. My husband and I are very proud of the work he is doing and we are doing our small part here in Rhode Islanad. My daughter and i are heading to NH sunday to help canvass the streets. I also assisted on aquiring the number of signatures neccessary to place barack on the ballot here in RI. My son is a state college grad who is passionate about public service and politics. More importantly he is passionate about Barack Obama a man of integrity as well as intelligence. Thank you for our newsweek and the dedicated repoters who work towards producing the high quality magazine I enjoy recieving each week for the past 30 years. I hope I continue to read it for 30 more. All politicians put on the chameleon act to show they can reach people - who can forget Dukakis driving a tank when he ran for President? How about office seekers putting on Carhart Jackets and jeans when talking to farmers and red ties to talk to corporate conservatives? Rolling up your sleeves shows your a hard worker, a fighter and represent the average american, right? Tailoring you speech to fit your audience... the southern accents will start up in S. Carolina, Preaching to blacks and being intellectual with white people. It's called acting, and it is a front to become elected. No one is talking about issues, anyone find that strange? Lots of talk about change, but no specifics. It's just like every other election ever held. "I'll promise to work for you to change things from how they are currently being done" is a staple theme of politics. Nothing new here. Same message same results. In four years we will hear the same thing, we need change... I don't want a slick talker in the Whitehouse, I want someone who can lead and deal with hard issues. Who 'll protect this country from ilegal immigration, terrorism; build an economy, not undercut it, educate our children and all the other issues facing us today and tomorrow. To bad there isn't a politician out there who could do that, power corrupts and absolute power is what the elected seek. Why do you think they want to be politicians anyway? Oh, right. To help everyone else.

The fact that Obama can tailor his delivery to suit the audience, indicates his ability to be flexible and to reach people. One certainly would not address a group of prison inmates in the same manner as a class of 16 yr olds. I applaud this ability to reach people and I think it speaks positively of his intention to treat all people with integrity.

It bugs me when all the pundits start talking about race. Obama is a not a black candidate nor a white candidate, but the people's candidate. The right candidate. It's almost a choice of good over evil and this time good wins.

JUST WONDERIN' . . . How do we know (what assurances are there) that the "surprising" results of the Iowa Democratic primary are authentic? Is it beyond reasonable possibility that Republicans (that is, Karl Rove style dirty tricksters) -registered or re-registered 'DEMOCRAT in large numbers and attendedr the Democratic caususes in order to affect (spoil, skew) the choice of the real Democrats?

    • Posted By: deep thinker @ 01/04/2008 9:52:12 AM

PS. To what extent, if any, did the new "smart kids" working for Obama actively and deliberately and coldly calculatingly seek out and capitalize on (recruit) the non-Democrat "Hillary-hater" because doing so boosted their guy's chances of winning the Iowa primary.

      • Posted By: 1goldengirl @ 01/04/2008 10:59:57 AM

The mere suggestion that it's possible the political game has become so ttreacherous that Obama's team of new "smart kids" might be so fiercely focused on winning the Iowa primary battle that they would resortt to recruiting primary votes for Obama when they suspect or know the voter has no intention of voting forObama in the general election, is mind-boggling. It can't be true.

I am an independent, but I will go to the Democratic Primary in my state (GA) and I will vote for Obama. I will also vote for him in the big election, if he's nominated, no matter who GOP's nominee is. This is the first time in a long time (I am 51) that I see a politician who - most likely - can be trusted. I hope I am right.

I am constantly amazed that within the media there is a going back to the losing consultants--Robert Shrum, for one, who has *never* won a presidential election. On what basis do they have expertise to share?

There were some old hands volunteering. Two weeks ago, I grabbed a flight and headed for Des Monies. At age 72, it would have been easier to sit in my lovely home in NC and watch it all unfold on TV. But, I was moved by the possiblity of creating a change in our remarkable republic, by electing Barack Obama. In Des Monies, I was met by a well-organized, ethical, intelligent, united effort. I went to work immediately applying everything I knew after thirty years of volunteer political effort. Not too old to learned, I learned from these remarkable young people. They welcomed me and used my talents and in a small way I helped them to help a remarkable young, positive candidate. Although my contribution was small I rank it right up their with my service as a Marine Corps Officer and math tutor to middle school students. God Speed, Barack and Michele Obama.

Obama stands out from the rest of the pack because his imagination is supported by sound logic. Throughout the year, opponents have tried to attack him. However, he has been able to rebuff the attacks because there is so little holes in the logic to his arguments.

Comment: Deep Thinker, Obama has been a success his whole life, He is far beyond his years and has always excelled above his peers. You need to research his eight years as an Illinois state senator. Obama is very intelligent and has proven it time and time again. He never got a free handout. He worked hard and accomplished more than anyone else his age in his field. That is a fact. What has Obama done that makes you think that he is not ready to be president, deep thinker. NO ONE LIKES BEING CAUGHT WITH THEIR PANTS DOWN. OBAMA/McCain ticket for President. We can move forward or we can go backwards. It is your choice.

PoliticalAnalyst Good Analysis, makes sense, however Obama will be the democratic nominee and the next president. All recent polls show that Obama would defeat Guilliani fifty one percent to forty three percent. After Iowa and New Hampshire people will begin to realize how strong the movement behind OBAMA really is. people want peace not war. They know that these problems abroad have to be solved. Obama is in the best position to succeed. The outcome in Iowa will be Obama thrity six per cent , Hillary thirty two percent , Edwards twenty eight percent and the other four percent will be split among the rest of the candidates. What is your prediction political analyst. We will see who is right

Comment: Limbaugh is the only American that I caterogize as crazier than Al Queda and their Jihad ways. This man is looney in every sense of the word. He just makes money for his station because he is a clown always entertaining people with his opinions.

Race is always a major factor in American politics. Obama is both black and white, his unique race is an advantage in this case. White people, old, young are comfortable with OBAMA. They like him. What is ironic is a lot of black people do not think Obama is black enough. There is a section of the black community that is racist against "light skinned" blacks. Dark skinned blacks often distinguish themselves from light skinned blacks. There is actually animosities between the two groups, it is the new American PHENEMONON. IF OBAMA was pure Nigerian, then I think it would be a different ball game. The fact that his grandmother and your grandmother are both white, makes the White Community feel comfortable.

Comment: Remember when Jesse the "Body" Ventura won in Minnesota. I think that is the first time that the media realized that voter's have a mind of their own. What people do not understand is that Obama represents a movement. They like him. Voters like Regan, they did not care about what the media said, they just liked the man. Obama has something the other politicians do not have. And it is that something that will bring victory to Obama. political pundits with their phd's don't get it. If Americans do not like you, they are not going to vote for you. Although a lot of people like Clinton many other do not , for reasons that i think are frivilous. However these are the facts. Did Regan have more experience than Carter in the eighties. No. Regan just had a likeability factor that is beyond an analyst's realm. You either have it or you don't. Obama has it.

I was at the Iowa caucuses tonight, and the energy for Barack Obama was through the roof. Old AND young voters alike came out in record numbers for Obama. In my precinct alone, the Obama supporters outnumbered the Clinton and Edwards supporters by 4 to 1!!!! Many of these people were Independants, Republicans, and first time voters. THIS GUY IS FOR REAL, and he can unite people in a way that Hillary and Edwards cannot. Tonight was a historic night here in Iowa.

  • Posted By: getittogetherbaby @ 01/04/2008 3:15:46 AM

This candidate may save face for all of politics. Let's hope so. Maybe then we'll get young people to the polls, where they have the loudest voice.

This is the comment I posted a couple of day agos. I am an American and I know my people. ALL My analysis were correct and backed by facts. I proved to be the most accurate going back months. Hopefully, people will learn that if you research and back your arguments with facts you will find the truth. I like Hillary and Edwards but they need to understand that they cannot overcome their records, they sold out to the same forces that have been "Punishing us for the last decade . Edwards cannot implement what he says and Hillary is haunted by the bill thing that is why she has to be careful not to go to negative. I will offer my advise on what the losers should do tomorrow. NO ONE LIKEs BEING CAUGHT WITH THEIR PANTS DOWN. OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT. DcooPer and deeP thinker you should study THE LIKEABILITy FACTOR and understand that I know more than all these Political Pundits and . Phd's. Did you see kieth OBEIRMAN and all those funny PeoPle on MSNBC. THey are dumb. They really looke devastated. Everything they believed in and all their Pundits were wrong. They were so one sided, Hillary. THe media has to recognize that more and more PeoPle do not believe them. They rePresent corPorations who have been indoctrinating us to sPene like wild animals and go into debt. DEbt financing. YOu know with CHINA. Everyone should read my comments and decide for temselves. Mitt Romney is a true clown just like Guilliani. His lies make me weeP like I said all along. His solution to health care is too offer Packagaes which PeoPle cannot afford. This man has just fliP floP too much and has followed the BUSH DOCTRINE. THAT EX Pired two years ago. I look forward to seeing his comPlete defeat in a couPle of weeks. Romney does not rePresent change HENRY TAFT BENSON. MY PEOPLE HAVE SEEN THROUGH THE MIRAGE. OBAMAMcCain for President. Hillary cannot compete with OBAMA. Look at the contrast in speeches. One who is denial and still speaking like a front runner and the other inspiring all Americans, OLD YOUNG, BLACK, WHITE,. This is a movement and cannot be stopped. Hillary should not try and fight this movement she needs to embrace it if she want to at least come in second. She needs to understand that her scripted campaign has failed her. She needs to listen to her gut. She needs to do what she thinks is right not what BIll thinks is right. Lets Go Hillary a proud second is your destiny.

Comment: NO ONE LIKES BEING CAUGHT WITH THEIR PANTS DOWN. EXPERIENCE.AND JUDGEMENT. WHAT CAN HILLARY DO THAT OBAMA CANNOT. THIS IS THE QUESTION I HAVE BEEN ASKING MYSELF. I THINK THE WORLD WILL WELCOME OBAMA AND AT LEAST GAVE HIM A FAIR CHANCE. REPUBLICANS WILL SWALLOW THEIR PRIDE AND WORK WITH OBAMA. THEY WILL NEVER DO THAT WITH HILLARY. HILLARY AND EDWARDS ARE GOOD PEOPLE, HOWEVER THEIR VOTING RECORD AND THEIR LACK OF COURAGE HAS LEAD ME TO QUESTION WHETHER THEY HAVE THE RIGHT INSTINCTS AND JUDGEMENT TO BE IN OFFICE. I REALLY THINK THEY WOULD BE MORE EFFECTIVE UNDER AN OBAMA PRESIDENCY. OBAMA WILL NOT TRY AND CONTROL EVERYTHING.
sANDY, EDWARDS IS DESpERATE. thIS MAN FOLLOWED JOHN KERRY. HE WILL DO AND SAY ANYTHING. EVEN IF HE MEANS IT NOW IT IS TOO LATE. OBAMA AND CLINTON ARE TOO SMART, THEY KNOW THAT WHAT YOU SAY TODAY COULD FINISH YOU TOMORROW. ONLY A CANDIDATE WITH NOTHING TO LOSE WILL SAY WHAT EDWARDS IS SAYING. WHAT HAS HE DONE. BE HONEST. HILLARY IS pROUD THAT SHE WENT AGIANST HER pRINCIpLES TO GIVE BUSH A BLANK CHECK. WHY. IT WAS GOOD FOR WESTERN NEW YORK. HILLARY IS NOT STUpID IF THE WAR HAD NEGATIVE ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES IN BUFFALO, SHE WOULD HAVE VOTED AGAINST IT. TRANSpARENCY IS SOMETHING NIETHER pARTY WANTS. NO ONE LIKE GETTING CAUGHT WITH THEIR pANTS DOWN AND THEN LECTURED ABOUT JUDGEMENT CALL..
