Comment: What upsets me the most is that the media focuses on obama and clinton. It is ridiculous. Media outlets should not be choosing who we vote for by newscasting for specific candidates. I have hardly heard anything about edwards. Even when he beat clinton in iowa... It was still all about her an obama. Of all the candidates, any political party, clinton and obama have the major majority of coverage. Media shouldn't be providing free advertising for these two. Edwards is a REAL candidate. He is intelligent, has experience, knows how the average american lives, and has a consience. I would like to hear more news coverage about him. I believe he would make a fine president, and bring some respect back to the white house. I will not vote for a puppet, or anyone who has no patriotism.... If Edwards doesn't get the democratic nomination I will vote republican.
Comment: I really don't think Obama would have won in Iowa if his campaign workers hadn't nagged everyone on a daily basis to caucus for him. If he spends goverment money like he spent here in Iowa I don't want him to be MY president. I had at least 5 phone calls daily from his camp, flyers in my front and back door daily, and mail jamming my mailbox. People knocking on my door at least once a day and offers of food if you caucused for Obama. I am proud to have voted for John Edwards, at least he didn't hound me to death!!!
Comment: I wonder how the Iowa caucus would have turned out for the Democrats if the media covered the candidates equally...with an equal amount of scrutiny. I find the media bias sad. Sixty percent of the coverage for Obama has been positive fluff. The story of two "firsts" was pertinent...for about a month. After that, why did the media flog it to death? Please, could the Fourth Estate stand up and do its job? Back in March, when Edwards unveiled his policy proposals...where was the substantive dialogue about the issues? Since then, Obama and Clinton have adopted such similar platforms that it borders on plagiarism. Now, both Obama and Clinton are talking about fighting special interests. What's next? Are they going to adopt Edwards' southern drawl? We are supposed to be electing a President...not Elvis impersonators. I HOPE that people will awaken and do a little research on their own...it is obvious that the media isn't going to do it.
Comment: Read Mayill fowler on the Huffingtn report on how Obama and Edwards people worked together to make sure Hillary came in third. Don't comment just read it.
Comment: Edwards has taken tons from trial lawyers, better look into Edwards finanaces more. Hard for a multimilliionare to look good unless he gives away all his money. Oh yeah the millions he has was his cut from insurance settlements. Its great to sue insurance companiies and get paid like that.
Comment: Why is it the fault of corporations the 75 families in Iowa needed shelter? Why are corporations which provide thousands of jobs, and money and insurance for people, why are corps evil? Why must that girls employer and insurance company pay for a very expensive liver surgery whcih may or may not work? Corporations and inusuracne companies were not designed to provide every little comfort and need for people, they would be bankrupt if they did. Its thinking like John Edwards the will put our ecomony in ruins and ruin our health care if it is socialized/ We need more people to take responsibility for themselves. We also need to realize that yes sometimes bad things happen like livers fail, homes get lost, jobs get lost, but its not governments job to fix it. Nor should we be mad at corporations needing to be profitable, We cannont pay huge amounts into socal security for people as well as health benefits and high waes, then be taxed like the dickens and expect business's to survive. http://themoderaterepublicans.blogspot.com/
Comment: It would be unwise to underestimate Barak Obama's appeal. He represents a generational change that will affect American politics for years to come. This is not a politics of who has the best resume. It is a politics of who can lead, who can be effective in bringing people together and who can inspire all of us to greater heights. If the country wanted experience Iowa would have gone overwhelmingly for Biden or Dodd or Richardson, all of whom have far more experience and greater success than Hillary Clinton, JohnEdwards or Barak. But this election is not about what people have done in the past. It is about what a leader will do in the future.
Edwards has touched on the themes that need to be addressed. But he is too strident, too angry and would continue the divisiveness. His approach just doesn't work. Obama has demonstrated an ability to work with all interested parties on an issue, such as health care when he was in the Illinois legislature, to produce something that improves lives.
Someone commented on financing the campaigns. Clinton has taken great sums of money from lobbyists and corporate interests. Obama has not take funds from these groups, mostly raising money from a record number of individuals giving relatively small amounts of money. Edwards has accepted PAC money, but hasn't taken lobbyist fund either.
In the end, Clinton's machine may find away to attack enough and undercut the proceeses enough to gain a victory. The Clintons will do anything to win. But Edwards has added much to the discussion. And Obama has changed the face of American politics for the future. If elected he will also change the face of government and how Americans and the world view our great country.
Comment: I hate that we still live in a society that because obama is partially african american you want to say he can't win . If there is anyone that is honest and what you see is what you get it is Obama. Tzr435 , Obama is not anyones pawn and Oprah can support who she choices *** every other candidate has his/her support.
Comment: I hate that the press is focusing Obama and Clinton. She came in third! The real win is Huckabee and Edwards. Both didn't spend nearly as much as their rivals, but they came through. The press is directing the country towards the candidates they chose to spotlight. And these days, too many of my fellow Americans blindly follow the major news networks.
And the Dems need to be focused on who can win in November. Clinton is WAY too divisive. She will polarize the people. Obama can't win in Nov, because he won't be able to carry enough moderates - he would make a far better running mate rather than in the top slot. Even with Oprah's glitz, he won't be able to win. If anything, that will turn some of us away. While Edwards is not perfect, none of the candidates are perfect either. The Dems only hope was Edwards, Richardson, or Biden. Now that Biden is out, it's up to Edwards and Richardson. I wish the press would drop the whole Clinton vs Obama line and discuss electability in November instead of a former First Lady and Oprah's pawn!
Comment: I like that Edwards is specific in what he wants to do if he becomes president at least more specific than his opponents and he stays on the message without pandering to the specific audience.
I am surprised that the public doen't pick up on the fact that if it is experience you want Edwards is really the most experienced. I think Bloomberg of New York is the proof that experience is really based on your successes and not necessarily on your public service record. Of course success in business management is not the same as financial riches from trial lawyering. Perhaps skills as a mediator and debater would be enough.
As to his 2nd place win? I would like to think that it is a reflection of a powerful statement that he spent significantly less (although far more time) campaigning in Iowa. I think it is a big statement that the most dis-infranchised voting block the middle class and blue collar voting block came out to vote for him. I certainly think he needs to be heard through the primaries because he has important things that need to be heard. Should he be the democratic nominee? I Haven't made up my mind yet.
I have serious respect for McCain and I would like to see what Bloomberg does.
Comment: Richardson has the strongest " get out of Iraq " platform. That should win NH for him. Suprising, but that simple too.
Comment: Edwards is the only candidate wihout serious electability issues. I think that this is going to be seen more clearly as this race progresses. He"s the bet candidate!
Comment: If you really take a close look at the candidaes, it,s pretty easy to see that Edwards is the only one that is seriously electable. The others have too many issues to overcome.
Comment: He won and deserves his second place finish to be honored. He will be the best for the president.
Comment: The next Presidential Debate is to held in Manchester, New Hampshire. Since when does Charlie Gibson represent any civic group in New Hampshire and since when did Fox News Network decide it was going to broadcast nationally the exclusion of viable candidates and get away with it? I would suggest the American electorate contact all State Attorney General offices to investigate this obstruction of justice in our election process. Yes, our election process.
Comment: ABC and Fox News Networks are interferring in the American electorate process. Both media have privately determined to exclude viable candidates while contracting to broadcast Presidential debates that are not representative of the grass roots caucus in the American political landscape. Civic groups across the nation are urged to take control of the American election process. Which civic group in Iowa determined to exclude Congressman Kucinich and which civic group in New Hampshire determiined to exclude Congressman Paul? The answer is that no civic group has been allowed to participate in debates so far. Why is Charles GIbson moderating the upcoming New Hampshire debates? What civic group does he represent in New Hamshire?
Comment: The American electorate is demanding a much needed focus on the election process. When media outlets such as the Des Moines Register, ABC News, and Fox news determine privately the benchmarks for inclusion to speak in Presidential debates the election process is already perverted. Has the Commission on Presidential Debates had a hand in excluding the candidates who will speak nationally to the obstruction of justice in the Executive Branch? Do the American people really wish to choose a Presidential candidate that has not spoken to the issues of torture, private rendition, civil rights and human rights abuses? Do the American people really wish to sweep the corruption and treason of this Bush Administration under the rug with a candidate owned by the same groups that have sponsored a failed United States Congress?
Comment: Kudoz to you - Thank you for the truth
Comment: I have listened to people who have now changed their vote to Obama / over Edwards. When they change their minds for who is electible, they assure politics as usual which is what they say they do not want.
You can not have change while these people stay in office - Clinton and I believe Obama both stated they wanted to be SENATORS above all else. BOTH missed the vote on the budget (555 BILLION DOLLARS / WHICH SUPPORTS THE WAR / both say they are against
Comment: All you have to know about the character of John Edwards is that he argued for the Iraq war and he voted for the Iraq war. And yet, in all these years, Mr Edwards has still not found the time to visit Iraq to witness the conditions on the ground or to meet with the young men and women he helped send to war. In approaching five years since the invasion of Iraq, Mr Edwards has still not found the courage to visit the war wounded at Walter Reed Medical Center. Nor has Mr Edwards found it necessary to visit Walter Reed to ensure that the degrading conditions have improved.
After repeatedly defending his vote for the war in the 2004 presidential race, Mr Edwards had a political epiphany in November of 2005, publicly stating, "I was wrong" and "I take responsibility for that mistake". Unfortunately, Mr Edwards is like so many other politicians who assume that saying they take responsibility is the same as actually taking responsibility. In reality, Mr Edwards has never taken responsibility for "that mistake". No amount of acknowledgments for being wrong will negate his responsibility to the tens of thousands of lives that are forever changed due to his decision to support the war.
Frequently in this campaign Mr Edwards has voiced his outrage towards the evils of industry. He has made lofty promises to end corporate greed and to hold unnamed CEO's accountable. Yet as so often is the case with Mr Edwards, his rhetoric rings hollow. How is a man who shirks his responsibility to the troops supposed to hold anyone accountable?

Comment: It is suicide to send Obama to the nov elections. His complete lack of experience may not matter to the hard core dem's but it will to the average American. The same could be said about Clinton, being first lady does not equate to management experience that a president will need to run the largest organization in the world.
The Jean Smart quote was laughable. The very idea that having a deep voice matters just shows how shallow and short sighted people are.
Comment: My only issue is that I'm not convinced yet that Obama can win in the South. I understand that he is drawing people in high amounts and he should be commended for winning a state that is 96% white. I just looking at the stats see that Edwards has shown the best chances in head-to-head polls at beating the Republican nominees as of right now. That could change as most will but I just want to get a Dem. in. Any one of them will have a similar affect on a lot of the changes for which democrats are looking.
Comment: Edwards just cannot compete with Obama when speaking. Obama is a gifted speaker and I truly believe he believes what he is saying other than Edwards just saying the part.
Comment: I like the essence of what Edwards is saying but his oratorical skills have to be significantly improved if he wants to beat Obama. Mentioning ad nauseam 4 to 5 people Edwards has met on the politcial trail in his speech last night is not a way to connect to his audience, it's a political speech cliche from the past. He allows too many seconds to go by between applauses. Edwards needs to show more of his passion and less of the cliches and be more authentic. I believe that is why Huckabee is connecting with the Republicans...he sounds like an intelligent regular guy who can think on his feet and be warm but who sounds like a leader. Edwards might not have the skill to deliver a great speech but if he wants to stay in the race he had better learn quickly or hire some professionals to show him how.

Comment: I don't want the R's totally out of Washington. I want the dems to control either the congress or the presidency. One party controlling congress and the presidency is trouble. Like we just had under Bush.
Comment: John Edwards is not the only amazing Democratic candidate this year, but he is the only one who will win in the end this Fall. He needs the support of those who want the R's out of washington.

Get real - thats how a racist mind thinks
Comment: It is imperative for all to remember we need to have someone on the Democratic ticket who most voters are not going to turn away from so that this candidate may at least have their grudging support and get a fighting chance to win the presidency in November. Obama is an interesting candidate but will he be able to win the support of people over the age of 35 - those less prone to daydreaming and more experienced with the harsh realities of life? Will he be able to quelch their fears that he has not been tested enough for the job of the presidency? Will half the country go over to his opponent at election time just out of nervousness? We need to honestly answer these questions.
Comment: The country is run by the daydreamers of the 60's who uncovered the harsh realities the status quo so often overlooks. Who can really claim to be tested for what lies in the future? Give the voters more credit than a nervous response.
Comment: The race just started an there 3 clear choices starting to come up 1. status quo, 2. conciliatory voice of change by bringing all people together, 3. by changing the way Washington D.C.
A Clinton victory will reinforce that the establishment machine power still alive and combined with money can still overshadow the voice of the people. Now she needs to fight for survival, hard to do it when most people want change and is against the establishement in either party. Hilalry choice si to fight back and take stands even if they ar risky but at least come across with honesty and clarity.
An Obama win will show that MONEY can buy media and manipulate democracy by bringing untested, inexperienced candidates WITHOUT proven business or political leadership to the front line, and that is a risk!. Obama is a "nice" but risky proposition to our country. let's see how Obama responds now that has to be challaneged by Hillary head-on and by Edwards on how is he goign to being the change he talks about and go beyond his oratory skills.
An Edwards win in Iowa will make the Democrats race a real contest and that will be good for the party. He probably doesn???t have the same amount of money than Hillary or Obama; but he has name recognition for real and people can easily be motivated to support his candidacy. He has the best progressive ideas, real agenda and is working hard for the nomination. Edwards wants to change and re energize the Democratic party from the base up, the middle class across party lines; he is fighting for a real chance...no just slogans, his message is clear and sound. When the big press give him enough coverage his message will reach across party lines to independents and some republicans fed up with Washington gridlock and the powers of big corporations and BIG MONEY.
Go Edwards! show that no one can buy the nomination, not even with the Washington oiled machine, lobbyists, big powers or big TV celebrities or big Hollywood and the controlled media. It will be tough; but not impossible!
Comment: Get real - you r so busy wanting to condemn a man because of who he is not on what he can accomplish. Because you can't face change. Obama is the honest candidate . What you see is what you get. Pray for an open mind not the racist close mind you display here.

Obama is the only candidate that has not ran from any questions on any issues. You are so busy wanting to condemn a Man because of who and lookimg for am excurse for his win because you can't f face Change.
Comment: I thought Barack Obama's victory speech was powerful and inspiring. Obama is a fresh face in the world of politics. Obama seems to be the canidate that can actually change the course of our government in the right direction. We have been broken for a while and we need fixing. We need a leader who will not give to corporate greed. We need someone who doesn't owe "favors" to anyone with power or influence.
We as Americans must elect someone who the world can see as the leader of the new free world. I think by electing Obama we will make a huge statement to the world that the United States is ready to lead the world with someone who has not only our interests in hand, but also those of the world,

Comment: I agree that Edwards has not gotten the same amount of publicity as the others. I was undecided between Edwards and Obama but after seeing about 30 min of Edwards on CSPAN I made my choice. I believe if anyone can do the middle class good he can. And he has the right approach to get the Ins. and Drug companies out of control of our unaffordable health care system. Would Americans rather go into debt to fight a war for the Oil Companies than to give health care to our own people? Not this American!

You obviously need more than 30 mins - Obahama is the middle class
Comment: As far as Clinton goes...Just look at where all the 'experience' in D.C has gotten us! We need BRAINS and GUTS not 'political experience'!
Comment: don't forget the missing ingredient, Edwards has plenty of-HEART TO GET THE JOB DONE
Comment: I am just so torn. All 3 have really good qualities, and I for one am not swayed by gender or color. Those that are swayed, are not as open minded as they apparently like to voice that they are! I am pleased that it is still a close race, as I have not yet chosen my canidate, but am leaning towards Edwards. He at least is NOT taking money from the big corps, thus does not have to answer to anyone when he wins. Unfortunatly I cannot say the same about Hillary or obama. Otherwise, my decision would be even tougher!

Comment: Does anyone notice that Edwards has received approximately 1/10th the press coverage for the past several months that Obama and Clinton have had? I don't see how this can be overlooked. I like Obama but he really isn't as clear or aggressive on the issues, and I wish they would all be given fair coverage in this mediaocracy.
Comment: I like Edwards Um from Iowa and in mysmall town Edwards won. I had a heart transplant 4 years ago, yes my husbands inn. paid for it. But in 2007 he lost his job (down sizeing ) or other words the company was not making enough money. Edwards should be our next leader .

Comment: America was not created as a democracy...it is a constitutional republic. Because of the ignorance of the populace, who are completely convinced that the US is a democracy....because of the ignorance of the MSM that continues to reinforce that false belief...America is in deep doo-doo.
You are incorrect in your statemetn that "This is no way to run a democracy". In fact, this is exactly how a democracy is run and it sucks!
Go home people...get on the web and research the difference between your "democracy" and the constitutional republic that the US is supposed to be. Once you know the difference, take another look at your favorite candidates and start comparing his or her positions with the Constitution. You will find that they are selling democracy...
And democracy is killing our country...we need to return to the REPUBLIC!!
Do your homework and then work for change.

You do your homework !!!! The change we need is not regression. Thats over and you know what I mean.
Comment: I think that Edwards needs to tweak his message to continue to build his momentum. Fighting against amorphous corporate greed is a bit fuzzy. I think he needs to take the message a step further and define and discuss the industries in which corporations meet the status of "corporate greed." Also, discuss the US government policies and practices, that started with the Clinton administration, which allows mega corporations to develop consortiums that behave like monopolies. Small business people may be afraid that Edwards might include them in his fight against corporate greed. They need to know that they are not.
Comment: It is a shame that we have choices brought to us by the same selfish people who gave us Kerry, gore, and Bush. It is also regrettable that women in this country are thought of as inadequate to be president. when they act like men thay are called 'power hungry' but who else would run for president? don't tell me that Obama isn't power hungry... he has never even served the country... just power stepping up the ladder powered by the Chicago 3 rich folks.
Comment: I am glad that Obama and Edwards are the leaders here. Either of them would make a fine president. Obama's comment that we are not blue states and red states but one union of people is a terrific message. I am sure all people regardless of political affiliation hope for less partisan politics. I notice that I take sides even before an issue is presented to me based on the presenter or the party. U.S. national politics looks more and more like a high stakes winner take all shouting match (or spinning match). I can't discuss any issues with my very good friends who are supporters of the other party. This is no way to run a democracy.

Thank you for someone that did their homework and not prejudiced opionions !!!!!
Comment: I thought it disgusting that Edwards bolted up on stage and immediately went into a victory speech without even congratulating Senator Obama on his win. It was so pigish of Edwards, so slimy, then ranting and raving as though he were the winner there. At least Hillary Clinton congratulated Barack Obama on his Iowa win.
Comment: so its slimy not to say good job? which neither of the other two have said for over a year, Edwards was a joke to both of them due to funding! so what, at least he was gracious enough to state, if it is to be Obama he would throw his support to him!! so slimy to do, i know-not, try again!!!
Comment: you have to be kidding me you are would about him not say good job when the jobless rate is up 5 percent our you men a dieing for what and people are losing thier lives because the do the have health inn. you are so shallow
Comment: I think it was a dead heat. Declaring victory is premature and not at all useful. The top three are still the top three and I think it will make for an interesting convention.

Comment: I believe Edwards really thought he was going to be Obama, and is so disappointed that his comments only focus on himself. Even Clinton acknowledged both Obama and Edwards. I feel it was rude of Edwards not to do the same for both Obama and Clinton. Edwards needs to be careful. He must remember that they are all Democrats on the same team. How dare he critisize Obama because he feels "he's not mean enough".
Comment: Did Hillery state if Obama wins she would back him-no did Edwards-yes so what no thanks at least he did state if it should be Obama he would throw his support his way! did Clinton-no- what a b****

Comment: America is in a socially and economiclly weakened state. The loss of ones individual freedoms and rights is not what I would call a good change for America. No mainstream moderate, Republican or Democrat would vote for a Socialist president. A vote for Obama would be a vote for a ocialist America.

Comment: So lets all vote Republican, and we can have a theocratic or fascist state.
I'd vote for any Democratic candidate, before any Republican. The last few years have taught much of America a lesson.
Comment: Paxton further defines fascism's essence as:
...a sense of overwhelming crisis beyond reach of traditional solutions; 2. belief one???s group is the victim, justifying any action without legal or moral limits; 3. need for authority by a natural leader above the law, relying on the superiority of his instincts; 4. right of the chosen people to dominate others without legal or moral restraint; 5. fear of foreign `contamination."[12]
Does any of this remind anyone of some of the behavior of the last 7 years, or so??
