You have an error in your piece. You wrote, "Iowa doesn't typically pick presidents, the Clinton camp reminded reporters; the winner of the state's caucuses hasn't gone on to the White House since 1976."

Of course, this is inaccurate. This is a case of the Clinton spin machine succeeding in lying to reports, who then buy the story hook-line-and-sinker. Here's the truth:

In 2004, Bush won the caucuses and the white house.
In 2000, Bush won the caucuses and the white house.
In 1996, Clinton won the caucuses and the white house.
In 1992, Harkin and Bush won, though Clinton won the white house.
In 1988, Gephardt and Dole won.
In 1984, Reagan won the caucuses and the white house.
In 1980, Bush won the caucuses.
In 1976, Carter won the caucuses and the white house.

So, in the last 8 election cycles, the winner of the Iowa Caucuses has gone onto win the white house five (5) times...not this nonsense that the Clinton people are spewing.

Please check your facts before reporting. This is shoddy workmanship.

Time for a "refreshing" change! Congrats to Obama and I wish that his message of hope resonates in New Hampshire! Hillary is not her husband...she lectures and wants us to know she is smarter than the rest of us. Let's have a President who cares about us, who has life experience that way outweighs Hillary's calculated political experience!

Everyone is saying Obama won because of the large turnout of younger voters. How is he going to be able to hold the hands of younger voters when there isn't time between the primaries or on Super Tuesday. He got the votes and deserved them but his youth vote will fizzle out just like it has in the past once he and his staff are not there to give them rides to vote.

Edwards, and for that matter, Obama, would make good presidents but they're not the best. Their talk about changing things, if ellected, is a little rediculous, like the President makes all the decissions. Bush got away with what he did because he didn't play fair. At least Hillary knows what to expect. Who cares if she doesn't tell everything up front. You fight fire with fire and she will know how to light the tourch against the Repubs.

What will change when Obama is president is the tone. The president sets the tone for the entire countries attitudes. That's as much responsible for this country's downward slide over the last 7 years as Bush's actual policies.

Hillary was only the first lady! She had no offical input on presidential policies although Bill may have mentioned them to her at night. She did not gain Presidential experience from being married to the President. Therefore, she is no more experienced than Obama or Edwards for that matter. The only thing we know about her is that she changes her opinions based on who she talks with, she does not accept responsibility for wrong decisions, and she chose to stay with a man that openly cheated and humiliated her. That does not make her innocent. That makes her foolish. I hope New Hampshire independents and democrats show her that the presidntial dynasties are over.

    Karen,
being a reporter does not mean that you just repeat opposing campaign spin. Instead of questioning what the Clinton campaign says, in this story you repeated almost verbatim what they've told you. What kind of genuine reporting is it to say: "There are hints that Obama ..would be ill-equipped ..."? It sounds more like what the Clinton campaign told you. But it's an irresponsible claim for an honest reporter to make unless you're willing to back it up with facts. If you have facts, why not REPORT them?

have seen Obama get a free pass through out this process but I looked at Meet the Press on Nov 11, 2007 when Obama was asked this question from Tim.

MR. RUSSERT: You talked about Senator Clinton having records released from the Clinton Library regarding her experience as first lady, and yet when you were asked about, ???What about eight years in the state senate of Illinois,??? you said, ???I don???t know.??? Where, where are the???where are your records?

SEN. OBAMA: Tim, we did not keep those records. I...

    MR. RUSSERT: Are they gone?

(NOTICE OBAMA WILL NOT TELL US WHERE ARE HIS RECORDS IN HIS NEXT RESPONSE)

SEN. OBAMA: Well, let???s be clear. In the state senate, every single piece of information, every document related to state government was kept by the state of Illinois and has been disclosed and is available and has been gone through with a fine-toothed comb by news outlets in Illinois. The, the stuff that I did not keep has to do with, for example, my schedule. I didn???t have a schedule. I was a state senator. I wasn???t intending to have the Barack Obama State Senate Library. I didn???t have 50 or 500 people to, to help me archive these issues. So...

MR. RUSSERT: But your meetings with lobbyists and so forth, there???s no record of that?

SEN. OBAMA: I did not have a scheduler, but, as I said, every document related to my interactions with government is available right now. And, as I said, news outlets have already looked at them.

MR. RUSSERT: Is your schedule available anywhere? Are???the records exist?

SEN. OBAMA: I???Tim, I kept my own schedule. I didn???t have a scheduler.

MR. RUSSERT: Senator Durbin, your colleague, publishes his schedule each day. Would you do that?

SEN. OBAMA: Well, you know, these days I have a public presidential schedule that I think everybody has access to.

Obama you have said that Hillary has not been truthful, but if you talk about change, let us talk about change. Where IS YOUR PAPER TRAIL OF MEETINGS WITH YOU LOBBY FRIENDS. DID YOU LOSE THEM OF DESTORY THEM?

I AND MANY AMERICANS WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE 1.5 ,MILLION OF THOSE DOLLARS CAME FROM WHILE YOU WHERE A STATE SENATOR. WILL YOU TELL US MAN, NOT THE STATE SENATE DOCUMENTS, LOBBY DOCUMENTS BUDDY.

SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON IS GOING TO MAKE A GREAT PRESIDENT.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 01/04/2008 4:41:09 PM

Too bad she'll never get a chance. Obama is eating her lunch. She has no charisma. Recent history shows that the public demands that their Dem president be charismatic. Obama's the complete package.

I would like to say that I am afraid of Barack Obama. I worry that he is riding a wave that will be dangerous to all of us. I know we need change but I know we also need experience. I dont trust Obama. I think that this country is so tarnished by the Bush admin that we are reaching for anything new. But new isnt always better. We do need experience and change, but we need stabilty too. If Barack wins the nomination I will vote Republican. I cant believe I am saying that because I am a steadfast Democrat. But I cant support what I dont trust. When the Clintons were in the White house my family thrived. We havent been able to keep our heads above water ever since. That has to be worth something. I,too, have made decisions only to rethink and change my mind. Isnt that what your supposed to do if you see things differently. I am a Hillary supporter to the end. She is strong, she is experienced, she is change. I dont care if she isnt cuddly and warm. She doesnt have to be for me. She needs to be tough and maybe even a little cold. I feel better with that than a fake smile backed by the richest women in the world. That isnt real, thats Hollywood. Talk about change. My gosh, the first woman president....thats change. Go Hilary! signed an average American woman.

I loved and love Bill Clinton as a candidate and a president. But Hilary is of a different stripe. She's a triangulator and unlike Bill less able to sell this strategy as coherent policy. Her goose is cooked.

The Hillary campaign just doesn't seem authentic to me. Before Iowa she said she knew what was needed and that Iowa was critical. Now that she's lost Iowa, she's saying don't make a big deal out of Iowa it's not that important and she's looking to change her message to reflect more what the other candidates have been spouting. Moving with the "polls" a bit too much and not sticking to a set of principles. If she has a good message, it's not being delivered to everyone. I think she has a good delivery team though so that might not be the problem.

have you been smoking pot people or may be just getting desperate......whoever won the democratic primary will win the election...and OBAMA will win both...if Obama gets New Hampshire its over people..

  • Posted By: TAZ-DEVIL @ 01/04/2008 4:09:18 PM

Exactly, she is fully known and her record isn't to good either. And the drug past; her husband smoked, but didn't inhale. I believe Hillary has turned into George Bush Sr., and Obama has become that young chrismatic Bill Clinton of 1992. After she loses this primary, I hope the Clinton's sail away in the sunset.

I AM TRULY AMAZED AT HOW THE DEMOCRATS ALWAYS SEEM TO FIND A WAY TO LOSE A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. HAS IT OCCURED TO ANYONE THAT THE REPUBLICANS CROSSED OVER TO OBAMA'S SIDE IN ORDER TO MAKE HILLARY LOSE. THEY KNOW THEY CAN BEAT OBAMA BUT WASN'T TOO SURE ABOUT HILLARY. AFTER THIS FIASCO I AM MOVING OVER TO THE INDEPENDANT SIDE.

    • Posted By: jackjack @ 01/04/2008 4:05:41 PM

The republicans would love for Hillary to run. LOVE IT. They've got trashing her down to a science. Obama....they cant do it without looking like absolute racists.
Nice try on the spin though...

Waa, Waa, Waa, Waa, Waa. I am so sick of their crying "foul" when they are throwing the elbows. If there were anything to dig up, the HRC machine would have found it. Isnt "Kindergarden Gate" proof of that? And that "he started it" crap. Really? HRC gets questioned about her votes and policy, not how many times her husband has cheated. Big difference between debate and slander.
