After a camdodate is elected president he needs a team ? we know Clinton can call anybody on her team; can Obama do the same?
Does Obama represents the everyday american black person? In my experience my african born friends are not familiar not sympathetic, nor identified with afro american struggle.
Besides these racial issues, what importance have women for Obama ? does he has specific goals for women improvement
It scares me that independent voted in great numbers for Obama; independent vote can swicht after a candidate becomes the party nominee; are they going to still back Obama then?

The Cuban Missile Crisis was in October of 1962, not June.

Give us a break with your comment... Why can't Hilary have someone in her corner ??? There are a lot of us who want a Clinton regime. We all don't live in Iowa. No one downplayed Obama's victory at all. You sound like a child. God Bless ALL the candidates.

We all can't really make any right and conscious judgement on Obama and how his general government policy will be, let's be more patient and learn the differences between Hillary's policy to be and that of Obama because after all Obama ain't no JFK.

I believe Mr. Sorensen Is correct, on so many levels, I see Obama as the American dream. Born in a mixed marrige, in lower middle class, not like (Mrs Clinton's silver spoon) gets a good education, then serves is community hand in hand with the common person in Chicago (where I am from) and services the nation in the senate, and answers the public out cry for Change and runs for President, and is able to pull every race, party, and age group together. for the first time in my voting life I feel that I will be voting next to a Republican and Independent for the same guy

  • Posted By: crstardust @ 01/05/2008 3:39:31 PM

Please refraiin from any comparison of Obama to any of the Kennedys....you insult them and their legacy.

  • Posted By: andre1227 @ 01/05/2008 3:35:12 PM

What a breath of fresh air from Mr. Sorensen. To hear from a true Wahsington in-sider who has not forgotten his roots and how they helped him in the White House. Obama is what every American with a patriotic creed should have. You are born even in poverty, (not a silver spoon like Mrs.Clinton) YOu work hard, get a good education, give back to the community as Mr. Obama did in Chicago (where I am from) serve the national public, and answer the public our cry to run for the highest office in the land. So for just a common hard worker as myself, Obama is the american dream, and for the first time in my voting life I fell that I will be voting next to a Republican for the same guy; I feel a new America comming, anybody else feel that way?

People just don't GET it. We don't WANT people with experience in Washington. We see Washington and the people who represent the old establishment as inherently CORRUPT. Barack Obama is the only candidate who represents the antithesis of that arrangement.

Besides, it always makes me laugh when Hillary Clinton implies that being the first lady gave her any experience. Where was she when Bill was getting blow jobs in the Oval Office? How soon we forget. *shaking my head* Give me a break!

Is Not Barack Obama's mother white? why is he considered a black man with a white mother?
Why isn't he considered a white man with a black father?
    just curious.

In case you are not aware, the axiom is "One drop of Balck blood makes you Black no matter how lightskinned you appear". The fact is, IOWA is 95% White and what happened the night OBAMA won may be a sign that America is growing.

      Hello Friend!
In case you are not aware, the axiom is "one drop of Black blood makes you Black no matter how light you appear". The fact is, the USA is a racist country, but what happened in IOWA may be a sign that America is growing. Remember that IOWA is 95% white.

What Happened in Iowa was proof that the American people are finally awakening to what is most important. We need an Obama as Sorenson said to have any hope of earning back some of the respect we've lost with the cuurent administration. What Obama offers us is HOPE. A word that we have been unable to utter for the past 7 years. You can sway a people using fear as a tool; isn't that what all the infamous dictators have done in the past? We need to look towards hope and not fear to survive the damage that has been done. Thank God for Obama and anyone like him. Hilary speaks about her experience in the White House, but again, in what capacity can she consider being an observer qualification to lead?

Mr. Sorensen is absolutely correct in his concern regarding "groupthinking".
This process has killed so many good companies in America and has recently polluted and corrupted our foreign policies. We need the inspiration and the vigor that a new generation like Obama can articulate and deliver. The old bankrupted policies of both major parties of pandering to their base to stay in power is so old an so over. The Iowa causus clearly shows the American people are smart and have risen above the politics norms and antics.

Remember: JFK talked lofty ideas but LBJ got civil rights passed in congress with his experience and arm twisting. In this election perception is trumping issues and solutions. What does "change" and "new" realy mean? Voters are just projecting their personal perceptions into these words. This all New Age uplift and sentiment is producing an Oprah candidate and an Opie candidate. America needs better than this!

  • Posted By: Lozmo @ 01/05/2008 12:10:44 PM

Not another Baby Boomer nostalgic fantasy! There are genuine differences in approach, position, outcomes, etc. between people with different political affiliations. JFK's time was a period of general agreement about strategy and direction on a number of serious issues -- the primary differences were timing, emphasis, and direction. A change of atmospherics in the White House alone isn't going re-summon some glorious age of the past.

Leadership is an intangible. Sometimes it is hard to discern the real candidate because of the packaging, staff, and management behind them. At the end of the day, the only real way to determine what is going on upstairs is to listen to the candidates speak about their vision for the country, for the future. The other quality to look for is the ability to get things done. Everyone has strong opinions about Bill Clinton, but no matter where the ideas originated he did get big ideas done and he didn't do this by bullying and scare tactics. And, down deep, I believe people believe he cared about their future and their country despite the consternation of the established corp and political machines and his own party. If we think the future is about bullying and scaring the American People and the rest of the World let's continue with the same politcal machine packaged status quo. To me, that's throwing in the towel, not what this country is about, and not something I want my children to inherit.

There is a message out there from John Mellancamp America: we are done with the greed and the scams and the manipulation and the status quo. We want a real change with a president who has something really going on upstairs that reflects the vision of a reasonable and hopeful America. I am sorry Huckabee and Obama are derailing the best laid plans of the party regulars and the corporate interests but I think most regular people are sick and tired of it.

Obama is like JFK... another empty suite. Why do Democrats buy into this fake BS of these people. Look at Clinton... they love the jerk, but ask them to name one thing he did that, and they are stumped. Welfare Reform - was a Republican issue... thanks Bill. NAFTA - again a Republican issue... thanks again Bill! And don't talk about the ecoonmy either. Clinton neither influenced i,t nor did he sign any bills that made it happen.

So Elinor get over yourself. Your a freak'n moron and you should just go away like the Clintons and all their lap dogs!
    So
