On second thought, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place.

Again Kennedy the saint of the democratic party??
Well, let's take a look at that:
Kennedy STARTED Viet Nam. That fact always seems to be lost in the rhetoric.
His performance during the missile crisis is a mite less than heroic when one understands that he knew EXACTLY what the Russians Politburo was saying, owing to a heroic Russian spy (Oleg Penkovsky) that was executed shortly after. He KNEW that Kruschev had overstepped his bounds with the party. He KNEW that the Russians had been premature in shipping missiles to Cuba and that they (the Russians) couldn't tactically support those missiles. Knowing all this, the "Private Letter" makes sense. "Mr. Kruschev, I KNOW you can't launch those missiles and I'm going to ruin you politically if you don't stop your current track." His telling Kruschev that he KNEW this caused the unmasking of the spy and caused his death. Did Kennedy CARE? No, he was more interested in being the hero of the piece.
Then their was the Bay of Pigs in which he ordered the mission and then abandoned the invaders as they hit the beach, leaving them to die.
In short, Kennedy was useless. Had he and Bobby lived, there's no telling WHAT kind of intrigue they would have had us involved in.
So... "Camelot" under JFK? I don't THINK so.

First I'd like to say, it was nice of Newsweek to use Eleanors' yearbook picture on her bye-line. Now, on with the show. Don't you just love Ellies' single minded starry eyedness?-(is that a word?)-Camelott. Oh how she and her ilk long for Camelott. If only someone could pick up the torch. But I thought that the Clintons were the new Camelottians. Isn't that what the starry-eyed libs in the media were telling us back then? Now I know that J.F.K.s' stable of 'Broads' that he was schtumping in the White House, under his wifes' nose, were a tad better looking than the slobs that Bill was having phone sex, cigar parties, and playing 'kiss the tail on the Bubba" with. But hey, it was still the same. Of course, J.F.K. never RAPED anybody. And if you believe Quanita Brodrick, when she told of her rape by Bill Clinton on national television on the number 1 show in America, then maybe it was different. Hey Eleanor, how come Quanita Brodrick was NEVER SUED for that? I mean, if wasn't true, and all. And how come it's only Camelott when it's a Democrat? You know why? Because Camelott, is "make believe". It's a fantasy. So it's fitting that the occupants of Camelott WOULD be Dems. Free Health care. Free day-care. Free college. Free this, and that. And don't worry about the costs. It's FREE silly. And if the mean old U.S. would just talk to everyone and let them know that we won't hurt them, than the bad people would go away."The sun'l come up, tomorrow. We don't need Guantanomo. The Patriot act is bad. Intercepting phone call from KNOWN terroist members is unconstitutional, and Heln Thomas is NOT an old bag who should, not only NOT be in the front row at the press briefings, but shouldn't be IN the room , period. She's NOT an institution. She should be IN an institution. And as far as "passing the torch to a new generation", I'ld be careful if your planning on passing it to Obama. From what I hear from the Clinton campaign, he might use it to light up a doob. Hail Camelott.

Edwards just takes too many votes away from Hillary. Obama won by one per cent in Iowa among democrats. This is a very significant statistic because OBAMA has a new base which Hillary and Edwards are strangers too. Their experience actually works against them, especially their voting record. New Hampshire is the land of independents and will go OBAMA's way. Hillary needs to start preparing for New York and California. If she loses either one she has no chance. Even the stars of today are with the OBAMA movement. She has lost the women vote, so she needs to focus on the minority vote ie. immigration and a plan for the poor. Everyone knows she is strong on Health Care, so she should emphasize other NEW ISSUES. AN issue that would inspire the middle class.. A middle class plan that promises a bright future. BE SpECIFIC. No one wants to here what she has done they want to hear what she is going to do. Going negative has distracted her from her.. The war on Iraq really hurts Hillary. She needs to be specific on that issue. What will she do and why can she do it faster than any other candidate. These are the types of issues OBAma has already been talking about however there is a lot of room for expansion on specifics in regards to these issues. Hillary needs to look presedential. She needs to hold fewer events with larger crowds. That's how waves start. A small wave can turn into a big wave in a hurry.
You cannot Go negative all the time you have to show why you can do the same "thing better". and then convince others. Edwards and Hillary's voting record hurts them in this regard.

Sorry, Eleanor, but if you want a closer analagy of what today's Camelot would look like, just look at John Edwards. He has the closest ideals to that of JFK in 1960. When people find out that Obama is a smoker and had a child with another woman out of wedlock; they won't be so quick to pen him as the perfect "Change" candidate. John Edwards character is impeccable, in my opinion. Go Johnny, Go! Vote for Johnny be good.

Should we again have a continuation of the Clinton regime? Those were good times, but america has to look to the future. We need someone to unite us all as americans. Someone to restore our reputation abroad. ...and someone with common senses to make sense of this tax situation. Clinton didn't do it then, what makes you think his wife will now.
Give someone else a chance at representing our country. Obama is only asking for 4 years, and the opportunity to unite this country.

I wonder how Chuck Todd , Keith Olbermann ,MSNBC and CNN, will handle Sen. Obama's victory last night.
I am sure they will down play it and still give Hillary all the free air space she needs as they go on with their glorifying Hillary !!!
Sooner or later they will have to give up and realize that America wants something but a Clinton and Bush regime !!!
God Bless America and May God Bless Sen. Obama and keep him safe !!!!

    • Posted By: bet605 @ 01/04/2008 4:55:38 PM

How dumb is your comment. No one downplayed the Obama victory last night. Today CNN and MSNBC are still reporting positive for Obama. Why is it that Clinton cannot have any supporters without being critical?? I am an American and I like a lot of others want a president other than Obama. By the way.. God Bless ALL the candidates.

Did you see the New York Daily News Paper. The front page described Huckabee's victory; not Obama. I wonder why? This was a historical moment in history, but some of the papers decided to pass on the story. What a shame!

just for all the people who do not understand why barack obama is considered a black american, and not a white american, inspite of his interracial background. first, not to play the race card, but i would dare to ask: if we were living in slave times, " would barack obama be a slave or a slave master?" i believe that the unequivocal answer would be, "a slave." offspring between slave masters and their slaves, were still slaves, in most cases. therefore, america has established long ago that if you have black blood within your veins, then you are black. so in reality, whether or not barack obama wishes to claim a caucasian or black racial identity, he will be viewed by americans and others as black. the same holds true for halle berry, thandie newton, vanessa williams, and all the other bi-racial (black + white) people in the world.

A line from Obama's speech reminds me of JFK's "ask not..." challenge:

    Hope is the bedrock of this nation;
the belief that our destiny will not be written for us,
but by us; by all those men and women who are not
    content to settle for the world as it is;
who have the courage to remake the world as it should be.

we might just be back on the road to Camelot... afte all these long years

Why are the news folks refering to Barack as "Black"? I mean the guy is black and pink. Where's the realism?
The USA won big time last night, more than these news folks could ever envision. I've never thought they were intelligent anyway. Just a bunch of self proclaimed "experts"- Barack is just the guy because he's all inclusive. He can't help but care for both his parents sides. GO USA!!!!!

I am an immigrant and a tend to side with the republicans. And i am proud to say that i predicted huckabee will win. But i have only seen snippets of him on webstreams. I saw his victory speech and it scares me that he might win. He does not a single signature issue other than his christian convictions. While faith is important it cannot be the only issue to propel you to the leadership of the free world.

Atleast Obama talked about global warming and disease which if he does work on when elected would renew america's moral leadership in the world and serve mankind. The democrats need to be absolutely sure to get a winner. Republicans love their conservative governors as presidents will carry him all the way to the nomination.

I am an immigrant and a republican. But Huckabee scares me. I predicted over a year ago he would win. but when i heard his victory speech on national tv... the man is simple and likeable. but he does not have a signature issue other than faith.while faith is important to life I am really worried that , it cant be the only thing that makes the leader of the free world.

Atleast Obama talked about issues the planet is facing like disease and global warming. Issues that will remind the world of america's moral leadership

I think the real original and inspiring person of the whole pack of candidates, dem or repub, is Mike Huckerbee. He is not well polished, he's just himself, true and nice, he talks just like himself. Now I'm not sure about his tax plan, though I couldn't agree more that we should pay less tax, but I find that to be possibly unrealistic. Other than that, he's the most inspiring and respresents the true old American values and dream.

  • Posted By: YuWang @ 01/04/2008 11:50:46 PM

I really don't understand why people think Obama is so inspiring, while he just says a few borrowed empty slogans, pretend to be JFK, his wife adopts JFK wife's hairdo, carry two kids to be a look-alike of JFK, and people call him inspiring? I thought being original and creative is inspiring. Being oneself, show the true color is inspiring. Obama has great aspirations, true, but not very inspiring. First, stop imitate and be true!

He's not considered white because of the deep-seated tradition (I'm not saying it's right at all) in this country to label a person of white and black parents as "Black" or "African-American". He is not the only person in this country of mixed race by far, yet overwhelmingly when it has come down to it, he is a Black man. Believe me if he were to say "I'm White", you'd have a whole bunch of race riots ensue. It has historical reasons (the "one drop rule" and Jim Crow laws come to mind) as well. We have yet (and this dissection occurs elsewhere in the world as well) to overcome the propensity to ignore skin color, skin tone, or race.

Of Course Republican News Media such as FOX will downplay last night's HISTORIC event. I was watching all the major media cable news stations, and FOX spent 90% of their time talking about Huckabee. Now, Hukabee's success is'nt all that surprising considering 60% of Iowan Republicans consider themselves "Evangelical or Born Again" Christians. Now what was historic was the voter turn out for the democrats and the fact the people of Iowa which is 95% white, embraced and choose Barack Obama as their choice for the Democratic Presidential Nominee. That is truly amazing and historic. We in America are experiencing a huge milestone in our country's long and rocky history. We have had dark moments, but people of prior generations were able to recognize this and start and make Change and shine light. From the Boston Tea Party, to The Civil War. To the time when Black slaves (men) where given the right to vote. When women stood up and said enough is enough and fought for their vote to vote. To Rosa Parks who had the courage to start change and sat at the front of the bus.
This is yet another great moment in America's history, which will only make up stronger and brighter than ever. Also, Hillary is a woman. That is also historic. We have grown and evolved as a country and we demand change. Now will Hillary provide that change or is Barack the better choice. That we will decide. But the country is screaming loud and clear, we are not happy with our leaders and the course in which we are being taken. Major change needs to happen now.

A vote for Obama is a vote for the Republic and the people... A vote for Hillary R Clinton is nothing less than a vote to again place a murderous, swindling, lying and swindling duo again into the White House for a third term. William Jeffersona Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton both belong in a maximum federal prison for remainder of their rotten lives.
