It is naive for anyone to ask what is wrong with this 26 yr old woman. Are you that blind? The problem is that she became too rich and famous too fast, married the wrong husband and had children that she cannot take care of. She is presumably bisexual, alcoholic, may have a drug habit, alienated from her family, depressed and being harassed by the paparazzi who exploit her by taking and selling her photos. myspace.com/worldtopsexiestwoman

It sounds like your expert might not have a full grasp of the process since a 5150 doesn't cause a patient to be admitted but merely taken in for an evaluation. "The California 5150 is an application for involuntary admission for up to 72 hours from the time the declaration is written. WIC 5150 is not itself a direct admission form and does not of itself authorize the involuntary admission. It gets the individual to the door. Once at the ER a psychiatrist has to file a 5151 to actually hold someone. There is no court record of either document at this point.

How Ironic that she had the song Lucky? If you haven't heard it, listen to it. I feel bad for her, so much is expected of her, and she seems to just want to be normal, but at the same time, she seems to love the attention from the Paparazzi. People are saying her boys should be totally taken away from her, but I think they need a momma more than they need a FED-EX. I just hope Britney gets the help she needs and gets healthy for her boys, family, and fans. I'm rooting for her, always will.

the sad part is that everyone seem seems to forget that this young lady needs help. Everyone is caught up in her star status but I really believe that she needs help. I have seen her several times on tv and she looks terrible. those around her seem to be caught up in her star status and not in what is in her best interest.

comment: My heart is breaking for Britney and also for her little boys, who have abosulutely no idea why the grown ups in their world are acting so strange. I just pray that Britney doesn't feel she's in so deep that she can't get out. Her brain is too ill right now to make decisions that will ultimately benefit her and her sons. I pray that someone is taking over this poor girl and demanding that she seeks and stays with help indefinitely - Mental illness crosses all racial barriers, ecconomic levels, is indiscriminate about who, why, or when the next victim will be claimed. As the observing public, we must refrain from judging and pointing fingers and pray that she gets into the hand of the correct people to help her find her road to recovery. - total and complete recovery! This is a life and death matter and we all pray that she chooses the former.

People just need to leave Britney the hell alone.. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF PEOPLE WERE ALL ABOUT EVERY STEP YOU MAKE? I mean if she wants to cut her hair off then let her.. She probably has a perfectly good reason. After you have kids some womens hormones go all wack and have to have medical care for it, and thats all she needs. Her hormones are probably just a little crooked at the moment but she's still like each and everyone of us.

My daughter has bipolar disorder and I completely empathize with Britney's mother and family. I too am praying that Britney will get the help she needs and that America will be better educated and more tolerant of those with mental illness. It's a devastating disease but can be so well controlled with medication! It doesn't have to be this way.

I will pray fro Britney. I will also pray for others who do not believe that Britney needs to be prayed for. That is such ashame. I would hate for anyone to cross their fingers for me. Are you kidding me. If you are not a person of GOD, than that is another issue that I hope youe can work out for yourself. (You sure are missing something). At least be a person who has hope or another human. Everyone make mistakes and has their own issues. Go HUCKABEE!!!

I'll pray for Britney, Huckabee, and then you.

I am not inclined to believe that Ms. Spears is addicted to alcohol/drugs. Rather, her outlandish behavior does seem to speak more to a psychiatric disorder such as bipolar/manic depressant. Of course, this is only speculation, but her erratic behavior and the description of her laughing one minute and crying the next, lead me to believe such. I am not sure if she is currently taking or should be taking medication for bipolar disorder, but if not she should be.

I see a lot of folks want to pray for Britney. I am crossing my fingers for her---a much more effective method.

If Britney Spears is addicted to drugs then she is a sick person and she should not worry about her children, her career or anything except staying from drugs and take responsibly for her drug problem. Nothing else matters because unless she tackles her drug problem she???ll loose everything anyway.

Addiction is blind; is doesn???t care whether you???re white, black, poor, rich, famous or a bum on the bench ??? it will kill you if let it.

An addict tends to blame everything and anybody for their demise ??? their state of denial doesn???t allow them to be honest.

I hope Britney has she reached her rock bottom and will include her in my prayers.

How sad that in the days following our nation's first look at the voting in our upcomingPResidential elections, the third ranking news story is this troubled young woman and her parentlng woes! What this says about America and interest the American people have in our own country and our own future is nothing but frightening. Leave Britney to her troubles--only she can make the choices and decisons necessary to turn her life around and start paying attention to some real news---------------------------------------

I believe that CNN reported that 60 police cars responded to this incident at the Spears home. I guess that there weren't any other law and order issues in the City that night.

It seems Ms Spears was distraught about having to give her kids back to her husband and, perhaps high on some kind of drugs, began acting out against the cops. If she was a Black or Hispanic woman in the same situation in Watts, the cops would probably have just shot her.

Thank you to Newsweek for giving an excellent synopsis of the "3 day involuntary commitment". It is one of society's best methods to get help to people who truly need it. They are the people who a lot of the times, do not even know they need help. They are simply much to sick to be able to figure it out on their own. In many cases, these people have either suicidal depression, bipolar or a form of schizophrenia.

That's what I had in 2002 when I was placed on a "3 day involuntary commitment" in the state of Colorado under the similar Colorado laws there.

I was committed because I was "a risk to myself" at the time. I was administered the drug Zyprexa and it worked incredibly well. It stopped the loud, nonstop, command voices in my head and the intense paranoid delusions running through my mind. At the time, I thought I was being controlled by a top-secret military satellite in the sky. It is hard to believe that the mind can get so sick like that and play such tricks on people.

I was given the diagnosis of "depression with psychotic features". Since then my diagnosis has been revised to "schizo-affective disorder" which is a severe form of bipolar with psychotic features. Basically it is a mix of bipolar and paranoid schizophrenia. It is some pretty rough stuff and I am not one to scare easily.

As a way to compare it to other things you might be more familiar with, I also have a shattered C-5 neck vertebrae from a high school football accident, which still gives me chronic pain.

I also had Lyme disease for 6 months and was using crutches before I was hospitalized for two weeks and given intravenous antibiotics to cure it.

These two things are like "fresh walks in the park" compared to S.A.D.

This "involuntary commitment" is one of the best things which ever happened to me in my life. I now am able to live a pretty full and productive life by taking my medication every day (Zyprexa and Lithium).

You hear others here pooh-pooh this medical device and psychiatric diseases which require it.

That's because they have never had the disease and never had the lock-down.

Hopefully this procedure will help this lady out and help awaken her from her living nightmare.

    Jimmy Stevenson
