it's so easy for foreigners in general easy to be "desk socialists" when you have a refrigerator full of food, health care, social security and a good standard of living. come on down and live here for a while and see for yourself... 90.000 crime victims in the last 9 years. no food, no freedom to buy what we want while the superhero gets the cover for newsweek

my daughter was no exception to the rule that every venezuelan family has been victim of a crime... she was victim of a kidnap express with her boyfriend when 4 hoods drove them around caracas insulting them and pointing them with a gun to be left thankfully whole and alive finally in a very dangerous neighborhood at 4 am on xmas eve 6 years ago, the car never appeared.

nowadays bashing bush and the usa is like taking candy from a two year old, everybody does it, sopray tell me why does ch??vez call him the devil, drunkard, bastard etc etc while he keeps selling oil to the big bad bush? to buy political stronghold in the region and to finance his schemes in bolivia, nicaragua and ecuador. and to use our income from oil as his personal wallet

bread we don't have, but circus we have a lot to sell around: just check out last week's performance with planes, helicopters, chavez disguised as rambo, with oliver stone included at the hostage fiasco in colombia.
    viva la democracia verdadera!

please watch this video of the student movement called "santa in the streets" doing for our poor and needy and homeless what our "super hero *** bolivar" hasn't done in almost 10 years of the richesgt income in our history, but oh... we pay for everything in cuba, nicaragua, peruvian elections, millions of dollars for madame K's campaign, repavement of streets in bolivia, where they hate us for his inherence, and hospitals in nigeria
please watch this very moving video to see our very real reality : the poor little rich country with an egomaniac for president who uses it's inmense income as his own wallet to further his ambitions: http://mx.youtube.com/watch?v=TdN9fVphAh0

i would like to know if you, or anyone, who believes outside of our border that ch??vez is anything like sim??n bolivar, or an indigenous robin hood would like the same experience for his/her country? if so then, please give me your address and i will try my best to Fedex him to you ASAP.
i would also like to clear up the fact that chavez is part white/black/ indian just like the rest of 97% of our population. so it???s not the "white conspiracy" telenovela against this poor minority victim, at all!
PS for joe contreras: FYI the one that IS exactly like sim??n bolivar, but without the ambition to harness the rest of south america to his ego, is called alvaro uribe v??lez, the very intelligent, wily and sharp president of colombia, who just outfoxed ch??vez, with the boy hostage affair, so just check him out: white, oligarch, well educated, rich, tough and last but not least... short like bol??var, just 5' 5.

as a born and bred venezuelan, who has lived in caracas all my life, and suffered chavez thru almost 10 years of this quasi democracy, i feel and believe that the only interest ???ego??? ch??vez has is to perpetuate himself in power per secula seculorum, while painting himself as the new bol??var.

we have an income of $100 p/oil barrel, but instead of first feeding and caring for his own poor and needy, he choses to play world "superhero???; last week he payed US $500 million of our money to the FARC, for them to liberate a little boy they didn't have since 2005, as they left him in a stranger???s care sick with leishmaniasis, a fractured arm and tortured by them with cigarrette burns.

while i, and the rest of my countrymen, haven't been able to buy one liter of milk in the last 3 months, or eggs, or sugar, or meat, or oatmeal. no meat for lunch, no eggnog for xmas, no pound cake, no morning oatmeal, no caf?? con leche for breakfast. children sleep on the streets, we ended the year with 22.5% inflation, the highest in south america, and we are supposed to be the richest country per income of oil in the vicinity.

The author of this article has painted the much needed aid that Hugo Chavez has given to the very poor of the region as bribes to them to buy their support, as if it is something that is wrong and to be shunned on, but then look at what the USA has done in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Iareal, and name it and the USA is there giving aid with strings attached. What about Egypt and Pakistan both the second and third biggest receivers of US largesse. Why do you at newsweek go on and argue the same case against the practise of the USA vis a vis aid with strings attached ?

I believe that it is more realistic for President Chavez to build up support in Bolivia, and Guatemala (Rafeal Corias country) and of course Cuba; but I am a bit suspicious of Raul Castro???s motive when his brother dies. All the same build up solid structure in these kindred souls and when everything is sailing smoothly, reach out to the others because by then other nations in this region will see the benefits of this alliance. I believe that Hugo Chavez is a sincere and honest man who wants to bring the good life to his people and those like him of Andean Indians origin.

Viva la el Presidente ! Viva la Venezuela !

This article is biased against Hugo Chavez because he is rabidly against the USA. It is unfair to protray Hugo Chavez as a hegemonic and self aggrandizing dictator, because I believe President Hugo Chavez wants to free Latin America from the hegemonic oppression of the USA and that is not a bad sentiment at all. The USA has for too long exploited the Andean Indians through the proxy of the white Spanish landowners of the region. I believe Hugo Chavez is not of Spanish decent; so why is it difficult to understand that he wants to put his people back into the status that they deserve as indegenous people of the land ? It is a pity that more people of Latin do not see the good that Chavez wants for the people of this region..
