Comment: ITS A GREATOPPORTUNITY CREATED BY TATA GROUP WHICH WOULD EASILY ATTRACT MORE MOTORCYCLIST TO BUY THIS CAR.EVENTHOUGH ITS CONCERN FOR ENVIORNMENT STILL THERE WOULD BE MANY WHO HAD DREAM OF A CAR OF THEIR OWN WOULD FEEL THERE DREAM HAS COME TRUE.NOW ITS UPTO THE CONSUMERS TO SHOW THEIR CHOICE ON THE "NANO"

Comment: Tata's car is a welcome development. However, the issue of safely travelling on Asian roads is a big question mark which must be addressed. Everybody is aware that motorists in many Asian countries dont strictly follow traffic rules and the fact that this vehicle is a minicar may be hustled by bigger cars and even trucks when travelling on these roads.

Comment: sid ,i agree with having a macho car,i would love to get a hands on the original Humvee myself, but you also have to look at oil dependency, and where it comes from. The middle east, hope you have heard of osama and friends, where do u think these camel riding freaks get the money to fund extreme religion and terrorism at a worldwide level. Can u point out a single country except Dubai(cushioned on oil based economy) in the middle east which has a resource which can fund the terrorism.Oil has become a security risk for democracies like American,Europe and India. So the more we use oil,the stronger the these countries get.Imagine these counties stopping oil one fine day to India,What do you think would happen to the country.Do you think india has the economic and millitery might to invade saudi or any middle east country to keep the oil flowing,The answer is,No,India is not another America. So we could have cool cars ,but not petrol driven ones.I am not going into environmental impacts.Hope you see the connection. So companies in india,(not only just the TATAs) should put their effort in reducing the oil consumption and one day completely eliminating it.

Comment: nuke, first lets stop ford and others from making those gas guzzling SUVs..oh sorry! i forgot only west is allowed to rape this planet ,right?Maybe its time we used this planets rescources before west gobbles it all up

    • Posted By: nukejet75 @ 01/13/2008 00:09:22

Comment: Sid,Everyone keeps saying the SUVs story time and again.Wat is india supposed to do,follow the west and commit the same mistakes. Its not the question of who screws the planets resources and first to destroy it,but who is going to show how to use it sensably.if one billion people endorses compressed air cars or fuel cell, its defenitly shake the petroleum companies and the some of the middle eastern countries And not to mesntion the money which flows terror attacks on counties in asia and europe.Lets not support these companies and countries by depending on Petrol and deseil.i am not even going into the economic impact and environmental impacts and the health impact.Hope you see the connections

Comment: Mistakes? Comment: It's astonishing how many people are teeing off on environmental impact instead of realizing what this will do for Indians who cannot afford gas guzzling Hummers and Cadillacs. Why are the transport needs of Indians less important than those of people in the West, or Japan?

    • Posted By: nukejet75 @ 01/13/2008 00:13:21

Comment: No one says The Transport needs of indians are less important. How are you supposed to meet these needs with out roads and cheap fuel. Its not just the car part of the transportation need.sThere is fuel,Environment,Economics and Road infrastructure.Hope Tata speeds up the Compressed air or the Fuel car and work on better public transportation ASAP.

  • Posted By: obsessedwithdirt @ 01/08/2008 6:28:32 AM

Comment: well done Mr Tata, this is what your monopolising competitors need. I just hope that the car is environement friendly.

  • Posted By: nukejet75 @ 01/08/2008 12:26:24 AM

Comment: $2500 is all fine, but hope the transportation infrastructure has to go a long way.Even the most advanced countries have serious traffic problems and parking problems.I can imagine the chaos, when some or all the two wheelers are replaced by the 4 wheelers on the indian roads. This would also have a impact on middle eastern oil cosumption and productivity.Tatas should stop work this car and put their effort on and come out with ZEV and desiging better public transport for the indian conditions and not compete with other countries for car ownership.Oh i forgot we are dealing with a company, they primary goal is to make more money and keep other issues secondary.Wheres the google equalant of of the automobile industry?

Comment: Thank you Kris. pinkpanther: you car has arrived "Bring on a tiny great milage and emissioned car i'll buy it!! We don't have anything to offer in it's place do we??"... google the smart car. Is that small enough, fuel efficient enough and emissions safe enough? Some customers actually need a vehicle that does some work. Not all of us let our vehicles sit in a parking garage all day while we sit at a desk. The vehicle makers do want to keep out competition and yes, every great empire was built from the bottom up. Also, many government fleets (like the bus lines and county/state owned vehicles) have turned to electric, natural gas and E85 powered vehicles. Bush must have overlooked those alternative fuel vehicles...watch for a recall soon! Consider this as you are shouting "No More Oil"... currently all methods of powering anything in our country relates back to oil consumption in some way. If you live in a home that has a plug in the wall You Use Oil, if you use electricity, natural gas, E85 or anyother way to power your vehicle You Use Oil, if you have used lip balm, sunscreen, paint for your walls or tupperware YOU USE OIL. My point is that we are all dependent on oil. Please put time into helping conserve rather than placing blame. We are all to blame.

Comment: You are all missing the point here, this vehicle will enable the poverty stricken peoples of these countries to move safely (or at least more safely than 4 or 5 on a motorcycle) around their counrty for work or to sell goods. They are not intersted in polution they want to earn enough money to feed themselves. Our western sensibilities may be offended by this, but if you have nothing the chance to own something like a car is almost a dream.

Comment: pinkpanter... don't give Bush nor the government that much authority.... Are you looking around? Where are the little 3? I don't see them much.
The US auto industry is a record in inefficiency thanks to the blood sucker unions and we the consumer pay the price.
This car will not make it, most likely will not be even close to meet the legal and security requirements in place. I will not run on an Interstate running a golf car.

  • Posted By: ebliever @ 01/07/2008 12:53:11 PM

Comment: You can buy a used car for $2500 too, and it will have a lot more features than a vehicle selling for new for the same price. So, what will make or break this vehicle will be the advantage in OPERATING COSTS. That is, a used vehicle of the same price will have more maintenance issues, will have more parts that can and will break down, etc. So will people be willing to accept bare functionality with no features to save money down the road? My guess is yes - but Tata needs to clearly understand the need for high quality and robustness to make the most of their chance. That's where the Yugo went wrong in the U.S., not their price or even their performance, but on long-term costs.

Vehicles like this can't be sold here because the control-freak Democrats and Republicans both support a raft of regulatory burdens that control what automakers can sell. It would be nice to have the freedom to make our own choices again.... (wandering off into a Ron Paul dream...)

    • Posted By: indiarocks @ 01/12/2008 14:57:55

Comment: eblier, the operating costs wouldn't be much because it takes on a few 100 rupees ($2) to repair the car from a mechanic in india, and the manufaacturing is all robotics, not labor- not smart people

  • Posted By: lemutr @ 01/07/2008 12:48:19 PM

Comment: Get off you high "Bush caused all of our problems" horse. The big vehicle manufacturers do keep out competition. Also, consider the "American way". People who are purchasing vehicles want something that will go faster, have more power and have great gas mileage. Those three can't all be maximized at the same time. You may want a small car that gets good gas mileage but others need a different style of vehicle. Many fleets in the US (consider public transportation) are turning to electric power, natural gas and E85. The major snag here is that electricity, natural gas and E85 all need petroleum to be created. We are all in need of oil in this country. Unless you can come up with a new power/ energy source you are also contributing to the oil consumption problem.

Comment: Hey, pinkkanther87413, just like my kids getting the flu, it's ALL Bushes fault of course. Have you ever heard of the Pries? I suppose that one slipped by the Bush administration and now all Liberals drive a Pries. Oups, not all drive one. Perhaps you should change your name to 'pinkpantywearer87413times' when you get a Tatus for $2500?

Comment: L.A. 5000 SUVs at 10mpg against 5000 Tatas at 60mpg, and is acceptable in the EU for emissions, ours are not even close to acceptable today at 10,000$+! Gimmi a 2500 car that gets 60mpg and less emissions than any American Car in its class, is a good deal! now you know why they are not here! Bush would never allow a car to get 60+mpg on his watch, no profit for his friends in the little 3, and if any thing we should understand! Every patent on a fuel effecient part or car is bought up by the little 3 and destroyed, as is the car that ran on trash, water, hemp, electricty, or natural gas these are not allowed to take over the SUV mentality as you drive one alone! Notice all hybrids which are affordable are not made by the little3 any longer! To tell the honset truth if it's not made from the bottom up in America it's not going to profit any working American but we just don't seem to want change, that would take from a multi-trilion profit margin. So it does profit the stockholder, no matter where it's made, and they don't care! Bring on a tiny great milage and emissioned car i'll buy it!! We don't have anything to offer in it's place do we??

Comment: We should require that this new car run on biodiesel and that it gets a minumum of 110 mpg. Especially if it is extremely small. There is some good info on biodiesel on trafficorganic.com

Comment: $2500 car and falling as the $ falls against the Rupee..It is meant to replace the 2 wheeler ( and probably the 3 wheeler 'auto rickshaw' which are vastly more polluting. In 5 years, Tata's will make this car run on alternate fuel/batteries. Tata's have been researching this for some time. Don't forget the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research as well as the Indian Institute of Science were a Tata creation.

    • Posted By: indiarocks @ 01/12/2008 15:03:53

Comment: yah tata can do a lot of research, the only problem is the new ceo of tata because i heard ratan tata is going to leave tata

Comment: But more cars means more emmision, more global warming and the $3000 car will increase the emmision on unprecedented scale! There is nothing to celebrate unless it is environment friendly.

    • Posted By: KeepYourCoins_IwantChage @ 01/07/2008 12:42:44

Comment: The $2,500 car is set out to replace the percentage of people on motorcycles which get the same or worst emissions and fuel economy. Not only are they set out to replace motorcycles but also to show innovation and improve the show a need to change the cars already on the market.
