lovebabies, you may have researched. BUT, my child would have starved had I just breast fed. I did not have any milk, period. My Dr. was surprised as I. We used the old make at home formula that our Drs. told us to use. My child was and is still very healthy after 44 years. My mother was not able to breastfeed. She had eight children. All her children were very healthy and are still.

there is always a way to have breastmilk. using glass bottles is great so is banked milk. do you know what is in formula!? i know of many mothers who have adopted babies and have been able to breastfeed.

Maybe if we all breastfed our babies we would not need to worry about this.

I don't know why everyone says that even breastfeeding mothers have to use a bottle at some point. I exclusively breast fed twins and at the time, I was a working mother--an attorney---and I continue to work today. My children never used a bottle of any sort. Breast is best.

I switched from Dr. Browns to BornFree bottles a few months ago. While they are similar and I do like both brands, I received a bottle from BornFree that had a defect. I tried to contact them and I still have not received a response 3 months later. I would personally buy the glass Dr. Browns bottles when they come out next month if I needed them.

It's probably all a marketing ploy. Its amazing how things can all of a sudden be unsafe and the next day be deemed fine then again be changed back to unsafe. It's all about money people, you know that and I know that. The companies know how they can prey off people's fear and they do that and everyone buys into it. We're told things, and most of us have two choices: 1. Believe it or 2. Don't believe it...

As a new parent, it is very scary to think that I could be putting things in my child's body that could inadvertantly harm them. Manufacturers need to list what is in the products they make. Like, what exactly goes into making a sippy cup. That way, we'd have a better idea of what we're giving our children. I understand that not all women who choose to use bottles does so because they really want to, but I don't think anyone is debating that. The truth is the Breast is the best. Even if I'd chosen to use bottles or had to use formula for some reason, the fact that the breast would have been the best would still be there. I don't think those of us who push for breastfeeding are saying that those who choose otherwise are bad moms. I don't understand why everyone feels that they have to get defensive when it's pointed out that formula is inferior to breast milk. It's a fact.

Although, another point to keep in mind is that women's bodies (as amazing as we know they are already) cannot magically put nutrients into milk if the mother is not eating healthy or has dangerous habits.

Please beaware that BPA is found in canned goods...including baby formula. I changed from ready to feed/concentrate formula to powder...less chance for leaching. I also found that Heinz uses unsafe plastic #7 for their organic baby food...what is with these companies??? I stick to glass jars and bottles for my little guy. I did buy the born-free bottles...they work great.. My only concern is what if these so called "safe plastics" are a problem down the road. Regarding organic canned goods...you may need to call the companies to find out if they line their cans with BPA...I read somewhere that Trader Joes doesn't use BPA...but can't confirm it.

Get off your high horses about breastfeeding. Even a large portion of women who breastfeed express their milk for bottle-feeding. Not everyone wants to be a SAHM, and if a mother wishes to continue feeding her child breastmilk and going back to work, bottles are a necessity.

Why does that not surprise me that the "OLD FASHION" glass bottle is better? With the dishwasher serilizing is so0000 much easier. There are some of us that are not able to breast feed, formula had to be used in GLASS BOTTLES.
We were still able to bond with our babies while feeding them. We would have, if possible to breast feed, done so.

What a surprise!!! Could not breast feed so used the good old glass bottles. Now why does this not surprise me that the "old fashion" way is better?

Seems like another reason why breast is best!

Honestly, at this point in our society, breasfeeding (assuming you can physically do it....I have friends who couldn't produce enough for their baby...frusterating for all invoved!) is a luxury. Even factoring in that some women don't choose to breastfeed, there are still the millions of other moms who have to work and aren't available during the day to provide milk-on-demand for their kids. For those moms, they might still be breastfeeding, but they'd have to pump it and save it for daytime use...which still goes back to this original problem with bottles and their components. It's not all about the Big Bad Companies taking advantage of the rest of us.

Milkyway52, you are judgemental and rather ignorant. Not all women produce enough milk to sustain life for their child, so they are forced to make gutwrenching decisions regarding which type of formula to use, and which type of bottle, and which nipple, and how to get less air into their stomachs. If you have one ounce of compassion to these women, you would not make such statements. AND-to all of the women out there who have no choice but to use a bottle, I applaud you for reading labels and making the best decision possible with what you have to work with!

TO: Milkyway52: NOT ALL WOMEN can breastfeed!!!! Some women don't produce enough breast milk to sustain life, so they have no choice but to feed their child with a bottle of some sort. While I agree the natural method is best, I think your comment is ignorant and judgemental. Not to mention, some women have no choice but to work, and breastfeeding is not always covenient, nor is it always possible. If you were somewhat educated in this area, you would not make such ridiculous statements! And, to all of the moms out there who have to feed with formula and have to make such gut-wrenching decisions, I applaud you for being strong and caring about your children enough to read labels!
