You know what? If you took all the Presidential hopefulls from both parties and threw them all in a sack and shook them up, then reached in and picked one, you still wouldn't come up with a candidate worth their salt! Get over it, this country will not nominate a woman into the presidency anymore than they'll elect a young black man, shameful as it is.
YOU! are "this country"
And I hope for the good of America that anyone who is voting with race or sexism as part of their equation chooses to stay home, because that is not what America is about. Results of change we so desparately are seeking. We are being watched the world over and are always asking "What can I do to change things?" Show the other countries that we are a strong and democratic nation that pulls together in desparate times. Become a part of history.
I think you are wrong. Our country will elect a black man as president just as Virginia elected a black governor. I also believe Hillary can get elected president. She is the first woman to come along who can be elected president. I believe we will se a black man president before a woman can be due to the prejudices of the uneducated American public. Whoever is nominated Democrat candidate, it is time for the Republicans to move over. No matter how many times it is said, taking care of the rich never did anything for the poor or even middle class (whick has grown smaller during the Republican rule).
I think you are wrong. But I believe a black man will be president before a woman will. I also believe Hillary will be president, if not this time then later. Whomever wins the Democrat nomination, it is time for the Republicans to move to the back burner.
Not THIS democrat, Jonathan. I'm so disgusted by the media hype and favoritism toward Obama that I might just not vote for him. You would be surprised at how many of us are watching this in amazement-and dismay. This untried, untested guy might be the nominee. Change is good, but change is also how we got stuck with Jimmy Carter and George Bush. No thanks.
Actually....that's not how we got stuck with Bush (if your speaking of the one currently in office)
NO Change is not how we got GWB and J.Carter Luck of the draw got us Jimmy C and stupidity got us GWB. Obama is as much tried and tested as our last three Govenor/ Presidents and alot smarter than both of the Bush presidents. Hillary has only served one full term in the Senate and the only experience she had before that was being a politicians wife. So what is the real problem you have with Obama? Could his lack of experience and the flaws in his character be the result of his skin color? Funny how all the scutiny you guys put on Obama missed GWB when he was running for President. Maybe if you had paid attetion to some of his flaw 7 1/2 or 8 years ago our country wouldn't be in the shape it's in today.
I also have wondered where in the hell were Mothers Against Drunk Driving when President Bush II was running for president?
the greatest of humans were always rediculed in the beginning by comparing them to those who could not make it down the same road before. Yet, today we bask in all that they did during all those yester-years. Once in a while someone great comes along and who can stop the tides of change anyway!!
What does it say about us, as Americans that we can be influenced by a "short-lived" teary eye? Quite frankly, to imply that sex appeal is needed to achieve a vote..................is equal to the fact that it is assumed that to show a tear will humanize a person and achieve a vote.........both strategies lie outside of real issues. The sombering realization is that there are people who will decide their vote on sex appeal and there are those who will decide on a strategically placed tear.......What we need is "REAL" change in America!!! I am simply tired of the same old politics, we need someone who is "Driven" who seeks a New/different america.........an America restored! Being well-traveled; We need an America that other countries would want to emulate............It is definitely time to pick up, America.....dust off, America and truly let America's brillance shine!!
Comment: The Clintons strength has always been their ability to "REINVENT" themselves. Most notably, after the ninety four congressional elections. They lost that election to a movement, led by Gingrich. What did they do to counter this movement, they made life better for the average American.
Hillary needs to reinvent herself as the candidate for the future. She needs to stop talking about the ninety's and start telling the people about her current proposals. Is Hillary's plan going to keep the American people safe. Is her "MIDDLE CLASS" tax cut going to be "BIGGER THAN OBAMA"S? , CAN HILLARY"S plan bring factions together for the common good more effectively than OBAMA's plan for the future.Somehow you have to convince voters, that your plan for a "prosperous and peaceful" future for AMerica is "STRONGER" than OBAMA"S. You have to stick to this message. What was once the Clinton's greatest strength, in now a big WEAKNESS. "REINVENTION". REINVENTION, is one of the principles that have been rejected by voters. They do not want you to keep changing yourself. They want someone who is genuine and who does not change every week. It makes people feel comfortable. In this case Hillary has no choice but to reinvent her message and plans for the future.
What HILLARY SHOULDN'T DO,
Hillary has to avoid going negative. She should attack her opponents with her plan and not with her ego. For example she laughed at Obama and dismissed his campaign as "JUST WORDS". What she failed to realize is that his words have inspired a nation. This made her look mean and arrogant. Hillary do not be afraid of rejection.
Emphasize that your plan for the future is stronger and how it is going to improve the live of miniorities. You need to launch your new plan like a "blitzkrieg". Keep your message positive expecially in California and NEW YORK, the two states you must win.
Do not play the race card= it is a lazy way out for a hard working individual. Be honest. If you use race you will be forced to lie. Remember that the masses can see through mirages. Do not use them anymore.
HILLARY WILL WIN IF SHE PLAYS UP THE GENDER CARD. Jonathan Alter's stupid, sexist comment about Hillary lacking the "critical assest" --sex appeal -- which (he implies) motivates the women's vote and which, incedably, passed the Newsweek editorial scruitiny, substantiates that a Hillary presidency is the CHANGE we need to make America great again and be able to hold up its head in the sisterhood --or maybe its brotherhoood -- of civilized nations. A comment like the one Alter just made, and got awy with motivates woman to come out and support her..candidacy.
J ONATHAN WRITES: "Like most women in politics, she lacks a critical asset. Male candidates can establish a magnetic and often sexual connection to women in the audience. (Just watch Bill Clinton, Obama or Edwards work a rope line.) Women candidates can't use sex appeal (except in France), which leaves them playing the sisterhood card."
wHAT an incredible sexist and male chauvanistic, passe -- not to speak of incorrect --think to say. SHAME ON YOU. Had you said that Obama lacks a critical asset because he is black, you may well have lost your job! -- other media commentators, pundits, presidential hopefuls have lost their job for saying less that is racially offensive!. Your sexistcomment and the fact that you can get away with it ALONE DEMONSTATE S WHY THIS COUNTRY NEEDS TO ELECT A WOMAN. I guess, it will take a Woman President before women will be freed from having to put up with the sort of sexism.
GO HILLARY -- WE NEED A WOMAN PRESIDENT, BADLY..
Alter says: "to win in November, Democrats must do better with college-educated men and with independents, the two groups where Obama is strongest and Hillary is weakest. "
Let me remind that --to win in November, Democrats must also have the traditional Democrat and the older woman vote, the two groups were Hillary is strong and Obama is weak.
Jonathan Alter shows his unjournalistic bias and unwashed arrogance when he presumes to speak for the Democrats with the unqualified assertion: "Even if they're not for him (Obama), they're proud of him and of themselves for being in his party."
Perhaps it's so, Mr.. Alter, -- it was so, I think. But, that was before Obama's brash: "forget-the-old Democratic-party-faithful-they're-passe-message-andet-the Independents-vote" assault became obvious. The surprising NH Hillary comeback rebellion, I think , shows that many faithful "Democrats" have begun to question whether Obama Obama truly IS a party.Democrat, or is in the process of creating a NEW Independents party for himself. The surprising NH results may be the signal that the old faithful Democrats have been awakened from their slumber. And, the battle for the hearts and minds of Democrats that Obama has announced in Iowa will now begin The old, faithful vote that reared its head in NH warns and reminds that all CHANGE is always for the best --that, what is needed is specified, considered CHANGE FOR THE BETTER and not merely undefined, impulsive CHANGE.
Afterall, did not George W. Bush run on the promise of bringing change? And, yes, he certainly did bring us change. The NH Democratic primary results message is: Change for the better also means restoring what was good in the era before GWB, that we need to go carefully into the future and not throw everything "old" out with the bathwater.
Mr Alter. Please stop Providing us with the inept opinios of pundits and instead cocentrate on securing a positive alternative to your horrifying haircut!
I say to all of the political pundits and news pollsters, you are irrelevant to the political process. Hillary Clinton showed you that last night in N.H. You can't predict how people will vote or who they will support until it actually happens. " I am perplexed at the "current hate the Clintons disease phenomena" that seems to affect so my people. . I wish you news people and pundits would do a story on what this hate the Clintons is all about. Please don't tell me any thing about Monica..
Bill Clinton's second place finish in NH back in the day that eventually put him in the White House should show everyone that it ain't over yet. Both Hillary and Barack (and Edwards) are still strong candidates who, as Hillary learned this week, can still be taught a trick to two. I wouldn't count any of them out just yet - there may still be some surprises in the coming weeks. Good luck to all. Joe in Key West
I believe that Hillary will not only beat Obama but she will be the next president of the United States,
she wiil have a strong support from most women and the support from many man that wants changes
to happen in america.

. I am a 51 year old white woman recently transplanted from one ???don???t matter??? state???Nebraska???to another???Indiana. I am a veteran of the Vietnam era having served my country in the USAF from 1974 until 1978. Granted, I wasn???t a prisoner in the Hanoi Hilton but I served nonetheless. Having said that I have to admit I have voted in one presidential election???period. I assumed, correctly I fear, that my vote means nothing. For the first time, after seeing Barack Obama win in Iowa, I had hope. NOW, after the New Hampshire primaries I can see how foolish and naive I was. Obama has no chance. No one does, not against Hillary Clinton. When the entire nation can ignore what she so blatantly IS, what point is there in my getting all shook up? Oh, and for the record, McCain has no shot. He was allowed to get to the point he is because he is impotent against the Clinton machine and they just don???t sweat him. I???m sorry to sound so jaded but after last night all of the good people, good American people, who actually effected change in the country are dead. Dead at the hands of what I HAD always thought were a collection of nutcases. Now I seriously have to wonder. Please understand that I have always, all of my life, believed in the inherent goodness of this nation and it???s people and now I can???t. Audacity of hope indeed.

As an Angeleno, I'd really like to have a chance to vote before every one decides who the winner is. As John Edwards pointed out, Iowa and New Hampshire are only 1 % of the population. As a Democrat, I find much to admire in Hillary Clinton. However, I was really impressed by Obama's speech in New Hampshire where he congratulated Hillary Clinton for her victory. That was true statesmanship. I find also much to admire in John Edward's so-called "populism:" - which for real consists of "telling it like it IS." I have not made my decision yet. I would appreciate it if the media would not make that decision for me.
Congratulations to Hillary Clinton you proved you are a fighter. She cried, and I think that changed eveything. I think the older women especially those with kids came out for Hillary and showed us that they are in charge of the Household in New Hampshire . I think Hillary Clinton really has been humbled and seems to appreciate her second chance. Obama needs to stress that winning is the easy part and getting things done once you get into power is the challenge. Obama was the underdog and he needs to keep that persona. He still has the nomination. I think Hillary has found herself. How Hillary got her groove back.
My girlfriend told me that I would be wrong and she was right.
