Today the Clintons represent an end of an era. Perhaps their time has come and gone. As with the end of a dynasty, a championship quarterback, whose love for the game has out paced his physical ability, a coach that has taken its team as far has he can, but can???t reach the big game. The passing of the torch is no easy matter, yet the torch must be passed, willingly or by force. I applaud the Clintons for their service, but the 21st century demands a new cast of characters with a new durable vision for a drastically changing world.

As a baby-boomer who supports Obama, a bit of perspective for joneiric, who complains that Clinton and Bush are deceitful draft-dodgers with fatal personality flaws. True enough, but considser: JFK lied us into war (Viet Nam). LBJ lied to keep us at war. Nixon lied about everything. Ford's only role was to pardon Nixon. Carter gave us 20% inflation. Reagan ignored AIDS and gave us Iran-Contra. Bush-the-first sent the economy into a tailspin. I really hope that Obama is the real deal and lives up to our hopes for him. But experience tells me that history is not on our side.

You are right about the other Presidents. I hope we see some drastic changes in our social politics like we saw in the sixties. I think it can happen with Obama and only Obama. I'm willing to take that chance because the rest are just special interests in a suit.

Same old tired propaganda from mainstream media. If you're dumb enough to buy into it, you deserve to get another GW Bush.

I'll go you one further: In a world without Hillary, Bill would be Obama's biggest booster (http://planetabell.blogspot.com/2008/01/imagining-world-without-hillary.html)

I was disappointed with Hillary bowing down and kissing Obama's butt too many times. So one of her guys mentioned Obama's middle name is Mohammad and he was from Muslim heritage. Who really cares? The public has a right to know everything that may come up in November. But when she fired her guy to appease Obama, she showed she had turned into an old fashioned politician and frankly, we are fed up with them all.
I would have voted for Hillary over Obama any day, mainly because she suffered more under the gun fire than any politician in the last 20 year and always came out on top. She deserved to be the first woman president. I won???t vote for Obama because he feels he stands on a pedestal, needs to hide thing from the public and expects apologies from anyone that may mention anything bad about him. Isn???t that the same thing George Bush does to people? Did George Bush bury our freedom of speech (Dixie Chicks) and now Obama will put the last nail in the coffin when he becomes president? Is that the future we want for our children? It is such a shame that the two people that could have made history in America turned out being such political turkeys.

Edwards is looking pretty good now because I haven???t seen him kissing any ones butt lately.

Wow, person. Your comment is so beyond reply on so many levels...(Obama demands apologies? No. He feels he stands on a pedestal? No again.) Anyway...

I just want to clear up one thing. Barack Obama's middle name is Hussein, not Mohammad. That did totally crack me up, though. Thanks for the chuckle.

Obama '08!! This man totally rocks. Amazing organization. And his wife is more amazing than he is!

I too am beginning to be a bit nervous about Obama. Just because he dazzels with his Cheshire Cat smile doesn't mean that he isn't as power hungry as anone else in this race. Chris Dodd and Joe Biden were closer to my own political views, had voted against further Iraq spending and the Patriot act funding, but they simply didn't have the 'sex-appeal' of Obama. I am not sure about another comment that this was a "sexist" article. The writer pointed out the smooch allowance given for males (Bill Clinton, Edwards or Obama, but a woman could not do the same. The sisterhood game is all she is allowed to do.

As many have expressed, the idea of a dynasty vote is real. A negative for Hilary Clinton.
As for Obama, I thought he was a bit churlish when asked if he liked Hillary. I think he could have done better. That said ... she was a bit too girlish in her own responses. My negatives AGAINST Obama are a couple: His constant and patronizing tone towards the politics of the 60's. Aside from the excesses, including the escallaion of being stoned (which might come back to bite him), the 60's were also the civil rights successes, the beginning of the environmental awareness, anti war activities and a damn better turnout in elections.
I also do not like his environmental stances. He is against a recently passed revision of mining leases on federal land. He is for increased liquified coal production and lambasted Mrs. Clinton on her less than enthusiastic stance on ethanol production. Guess what pandered to Iowa and Nevada. You bet.

      This guy needs more inspection.

As for Edwards. With a recession possible, his anti corporate stance may also be a loosing proposition.

Obama voted present SEVEN times in re: to a woman's right to choose. You don't make change happen by voting present. Deatils Obama, details.

    • Posted By: Leebo @ 01/07/2008 11:18:43 PM

OK - one more time..."present" is often part of a legislative strategy. Try this link
      http://www.zimbio.com/2008+Presidential+Candidates/articles/2606/Obama+s+Vote+In+Illinois

"Speaking from his campaign headquarters in Nashua, N.H., he described the votes as tactical maneuvers. ???Often times I would strategically vote present because we were negotiating a bill or because there was some element in the bill that was unconstitutional or had problem that needed to be tweaked.???

"Mr. Obama???s aides and some allies dispute the characterization that a present vote is tantamount to ducking an issue. They said Mr. Obama cast 4,000 votes in the Illinois Senate and used the present vote to protest bills that he believed had been drafted unconstitutionally or as part of a broader legislative strategy."

I understand "present" votes amounted to about 3% of his votes.

As people began to notice, Bill Clinton is to this day, a "womanizer". Now, finally, his wife has shown herself to be nothing more than an "opportunist", of the highest order. When Bill was found out with Jennifer Flowers, Hillary had to go against the quick reaction of the world, and realize if she stayed with her man, she might become "First Lady". Even in Arkansas, she stayed behind him and his womanizing. If Rudy Guliani, had not step out the the race, for his health crisis, we would not even be having this discussion, for the Senate was beyond her against Rudi. Now she has parlayed her years in the Senate, and another "Opportunity" is at hand........ That is all she is and has ever been, and the "White, farmers of Iowa, saw her for that, and embraced a young black man,,,,, who carries himself with "class". Hillary is indeed "TOAST".

  • Posted By: Hipoint @ 01/07/2008 8:59:03 PM

Hillary is TOAST. Dead Woman Walking !

    • Posted By: mac2007 @ 01/07/2008 9:28:12 PM

No. She is not. Now is only the early stage of primary race. We should not jump our conclusion so quickly. Otherwise, we just do ourselves and do our democracy a disservice.

      • Posted By: Hipoint @ 01/07/2008 9:32:37 PM

We'll see if you're singing the same tune tomorrow night. She is going to be beaten DECISIVELY, mark it down.

To the editor: Mr. Alter, I notice that there is a sponsored link "Barack Obama Exposed" but I also found another link that explains the purpose of a lot of this propaganda: http://thepage.time.com/letter-to-afscme-president-mcentee/
Why not advertise the counter links as well? If the media uses its power to manipulate, why not expose it all!!

  • Posted By: mac2007 @ 01/07/2008 8:45:23 PM

Mainstream media is the most snobbery crowd.

When Clinton's poll looks good, nobody dares to raise voice to challenge her.

Now, everybody is in a hurry to join the Hillary-attack bandwagon.

Now, it is in vogue to praise Obama highly--it seems like he can do no wrong. Is Obama really that great? Everybody becomes so blind.

The bottom line is that no matter how much you want to admire Obama; Obama is still a politician who is in the game to grab the power. He is lucky. He is fresh and without baggage. So he doesn't need to go negative to win. As a result, he can easily make his rival look bad. Sometimes, I can detect certain arrogance in him.

I honestly feel Hillary has been unfairly attacked from all sides. C'mon, even though you may not like her, stil she hasn't done anything worse than any other politicians.

I only hope we can all have some perspective knowing that this primary season just starts. We should give all candidates a fair amount of opportunity to prove themselves. Otherwise, we only do ourself a disservice by loving Obama blindly and too passionately and by hating Hillary too ruthlessly without recognizing that she is still only a human being.

Anyway, I decide not join the echo chamber to verbally assassinate Hillary, even though I have criticized her so much before. I can sense at this very moment how much pressure she is under. We attack her now is almost like we attack someone who is just hit by the car and we are more than eager to give the person the final blow.

I truly think that Obama has a lot to offer as the next President of the United States. I like how he prioritizes things and his history while dealing with political issues demonstrate that he is just as experienced as any and all other candidates to be President. What is more appealing is that he is beginning to gain global attention. I read an article out of Berlin, Germany where Berlin is in support of Obama. From an international perspective, he is already making change! If he continues to have that positive affect on other nations, he may BE the President that can unify nations... it seems to already swaying in that direction. What is very amusing is that no other president has had such profound affect on society in a global fashion in the entire history of the United States! That's got to mean something in light of change..

The media is being too nice to Obama. He can handle more attacks. Ask him about his positions on abortion, civil rights, taxes, spending, etc. These are the issues that will be coming up in the general election. Get those issues out there.

The coddling by the media may only hurt him in the long run.

Comment: Hill is despirately craving for power to lead. The political dynasty is over, HIll. We need face to face new challenge. I looked at her tears and they suggested to me that "by hook or crook" she needs to be our next president. BIll and Hill find a high Hill and Hide for there is a new and fresh air is blow!!!!

  • Posted By: ksammy @ 01/07/2008 6:03:18 PM

Comment: Hill is despirate now. hearing her speech with tears, it suggests that she despirately wants to be the next president. But Americans are turning the page; no more "status quo." The political dynasty is over; at least Bush's are eveidence. NH will attest to the change today!!

  • Posted By: wyl5326 @ 01/07/2008 5:40:43 PM

Hill is now showing her fangs and this will just drive more uncommitted
voters to Barack. She is still conducting an electoral campaign of divisiveness
with slash and burn. She haven't realized yet that we have now entered a new
era of civility that she pretends to aspire but don't live up to. I bet you
that NH voters would whacked her further than what Iowa did and will end up 3rd
again. She is on the path to self-destruction and will find her campaign cup
empty as no more donors is willing to support this bitchy behavior ! She is
losing her mind and probably gone amok now and nobody is brave enough to stop a
wild woman. When all things are done, and she gets sober, she might even drive
Bill out of their abode ! That is her nature and nobody have dared to stop her
before and was used to get her ways even going to the edges of criminal
    behavior.

How does Hillary think many of the working poor will afford health insurance.?I have 84 cents left and payday is a few days away yet. Do I not buy food? Not pay my car payment? I'm not going on welfare. Do I become a criminal for not being able to afford more insurance? More unfunded mandates, more forced mandates?

I used to be here to defend Obama when Clinton supporters trying to distort Obama's record.

Now I am here to tell Clinton supporters please don't be so hard on Clinton. You are reaching a hysteria of hatred.

No matter how Clinton is only a human being.

I can imagine how much pressure Clinton is under now.

You are guy is on top now. There is no point for you to attack Hillary. In this moment, your attack is almost like seeing someone is hitting by a car, you want to add final blow.

It is time to show decency and compassion to someone even you don't support.

No matter how Clinton is only a human being. Please don't go overboard.

    To Tx_longbow:
What exactly does Obama need to hide from the public? Last time I checked, he was going out on a limb promoting governmental transparency. If I'm not mistaken, Hillary is the one who has not released her White House documents from the archives and who has taken money from lobbyists (I wonder if they might want something in return? Hmm...think she'll tell us?)
