I saw entire series on DVD and just loved it.
I think its one of the best TV series i ever saw in my life. In fact after seeing it i felt i wont like anything that calls it police or detective series.

It was new experience to me since I am from Bombay and far removed from the realities of streets of USA forget about Baltimore or Harlem or Bronx. But whatever little i saw made me feel that this was the best representation of the people of such streets not the fabled characters we always see in other glossed TV series of Hollywood movies.

    I wish simon will think of 6, 7, 8 , 9......seasons!

If you are a fan of The Wire then you must watch the first series David Simon wrote for HBO, "The Corner". This is where I first became a fan of Simon's. (Plus being a Baltimorean living away from there now). It was an excellent story, the actors were amazing. Don't stop writing David - we want more!!!

Quite simply, THE WIRE is the most important and the best television series ever. Period. Along with August Wilson's ten play Century Cycle, THE WIRE will show future generations who we were and how we got to who they are. In an election year everybody needs to watch it, especially those who live in the cities battling to maintain their humanity and moral ethics, before they cast a vote. The only consolation I have in it's ending is that it was done to begin with, and that Mr.'s Simon and Burns along with it's stellar cast , led by the magnificent Clarke Peters, will not only work again, but be as defiant and subversive and brilliant as they were here. An American masterpiece.

I never had the time to watch The Wire when it first started. In the past year I have been able to catch up watching it by checking out the dvds from my local library. I'm completely addicted and love all of the characters. I'll be sad to see it end.

But, please, please please, let Bubbles overcome his addiction and sad way of life!

Lets hope that season 5 won't be a disappointment after the incredible power that was season 4.
Best TV show ever, hands down, no question.
    Nothing compares.

Are you kidding me? How could you possibly give away the ending of the show like that? You describe a final scene with: "The bar is set up for a policeman's wake-a framed photograph, rosary beads, a bottle of Jameson" and think us die-hard Wire fans won't be able to know exactly who has died? What were you thinking? Hey Devin, put down that Tolstoy novel. That Russian chick, Anna Karenina? Yeah, she kills herself. Yup, throws herself under a train. Don't bother reading to the end... Thanks a lot. Jonah in New Orleans

Outstanding story. As a wire fan, I can attest to the obsession we, my husband and I, have for this show. Not only is the subject matter captivating, but the real manner in which it is presented. The characters have depth. We only started watching Season 4. When it ended, we bought the previous 3 seasons on DVD. We have never done that before or since. And, I must say, they were quite costly and well worth the price. We have been having withdrawals waiting for Seawson 5. On Sunday, January 6, we felt so much better. We have watched that episode 4 times already. Prior to that, we began to "review" the previous 4 seasons. What can I say? We are "Wire" junkies and happy about it!

One nit-pick...Idris Elba has leveraged his role as "Stringer" Bell in "The Wire" into a more successful career than Dominic West. It seemed he was in everything last year from "All In The Game," "Daddy's Little Girls," "The Reaping," "28 Weeks Later," "American Gangster," and "This Christmas." He has four or more upcoming roles in production.

Today is bittersweet...I can not wait to see The WIre but I know that this is the last season. David Simon and his team put together an awesome show and it didn't fit Hollywood's predictable format...YEAH DAVID!!!

I have been an avid fan since the 1st Season. My friends and I could probably best described as "Wired". It is amazing how attached we have become to the characters...Last season, Namond and Dukie's storyline brought us to tears every week...What well written characters...I still can't watch the episode when Bodie dies.

    Well done Mr Simon!

I love this article...and I am and have been an avid fan of The Wire since the 1st Season...ironically, I found the show initially by flipping channels. I love the all of the characters, every character was written so well.

    Thank you David Simon!

    I have been waiting for Jan 6th, 2008 like a junkie~:-)

Never heard of The Wire until two weeks ago. When will HBO begin reruns from the beginning?
