Media love for Obama is driven by reverse racism. If he were not black, the media would have little interest in him. What difference is there between a man who opposes a man because of his race and a man who supports a man because of his race? Both are racists. Obama should be judged on his policies and his character not his race. Black racism is just as repugnant as white racism.

All I know is - come Tuesday night...and I am SOOOO hoping for an Obama win. It will be clear if Hillary really has a chance to gain the "independent vote". I think it will be also equally clear if Barack's version of inclusive politics is seen as honest and real. My vote is that it is.. I have some of the most passionate debates with my friends who are Republican but at the end of the day - we all want to see America...hell - the world - do well and be more secure. If Barack wins New Hampshire - this could really be a historic moment...and not just because he's black...because Hillary being the first woman president would be equally historic in that way. I am referring to actually making a difference and cutting through the B.S. I know leadership when I see it - and Barack has it. He is inclusive and reaches out to others - he's brilliant and worldly. I have to remember that not everyone feels the way that I do but I just think - who couldn't see this?

One last note - I don't know why...but SOOOOO many people just will flat out not vote for Hillary for a number of different reasons. I'm only so down on her now because of her barrage of negative, underhanded tricks in December on Barack. I don't want to reward those who would try to manipulate us. I will not be deterred through fear. I know Barack is authentic....

Looking at some of these comments - its pretty clear to me that some people are writing with their own deceptive, manipulative, twisted agendas. Pay attention to facts - listen to many sources and discuss the issues with other people before you come to your own conclusions. Some people seem to think they can manipulate the average American....be responsible and conduct your own due diligence. I'm especially wary of PoliticalRealityOnline. I'd be very wary of any comments he makes until he actually starts to talk about who he believes in and why....right now - I just hear him (or her) bashing Obama. Its not enough to talk about why you don't support someone - shouldn't we talk about what we actually believe in? New Politics vs. Old Politics. THINK ABOUT IT!

This article is about Obama, and that is why I have addressed him as a candidate. I believe he is an extreme threat to the future of my two year old daughter and that is why I feel compelled to offer my opinions here to counter the extreme media bias in favor of a charismatic novice who has no qualifications to be President in a time of economic fragility and dangerous international circumstances. I have no agenda but my children's future and the danger that misinformed voters will reach disastrous conclusions in this election. I never though I would see brazen socialism and peace through retreat from our most vital interests advocated by a major American political party, but that is exactly the platform of the dem party. Anyone with open eyes and a conscience would reach the same conclusion.

      • Posted By: PoliticalRealityOnline @ 01/06/2008 9:04:20 PM

Daniel: Instead of a general slam of my opinions, why don't you challenge anything I have said with facts or contrary opinions. I will be happy to specifically address anything you think I have said that has been "twisted" because that is not the case. You've just spent so much time in the "twisted" dem spin world that true facts and reality seem uncomfortable by comparison. It is a terrible feeling to have closely held mis-perceptions blown up with facts and reason, but how else do people learn?

        • Posted By: danielgouldman @ 01/07/2008 5:22:42 AM

Any "slam" I've posted was because when you asked me to provide details...I did - you didn't respond. You haven't been straightforward. I answered all of your questions. You said he didn't have any information on where he stands on the issues on his website (HE DOES). You wanted to know what he has done to make a difference vis a vis any experience that would matter - I shared specific bills etc. You skipped it. It wasn't helping your agenda - and you skipped it. So - until you say something SUBSTANTIVE about my detailed response...I won't trust you. until I know anything different - I view you as someone that is being paid to spread negativity - I am very skeptical of people on message boards.

OBAMA WON AMONG DEMOCRATS BY ONE pER CENT IN IOWA. DEFEATING BOTH EDWARDS AND HILLARY AMONG DEMOCRATS. THIS WAVE IS UNSTOppABLE AND WILL GET LARGER AFTER EACH STATE STRAIGHT TO THE pRESIDENCY.

NEW HAMpSHIRE HAS MANY YOUNG COLLEGE GRADUATES AND INDEpENDENTS. THIS IS OBAMA'S BASE, AND HE IS GOING TO WIN BY A LARGE MARGIN THERE, perhaps with forty one per cent of the vote, is not EVEN GOING TO BE CLOSE. HILLARY IS IN DANGER OF COMING IN THIRD. WHAT IS GOING TO BE INTERESTING IN NEW HAMpSHIRE, AND "A LOT CLOSER", IS THE BATTLE BETWEEN OBAMA AND McCAIN FOR THE INDEpENENT VOTE. THIS WILL BE A GOOD INDICATOR TO SEE HOW STRONG OBAMA IS NATIONWIDE. IF HE CAN TAKE THE INDEpENDENT VOTE AWAY FROM McCAIN, IN McCain's strong hold, then he will easily defeat ANY republican in a national election. It is a "Regan" like phenomenon. OBAMA IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR EVEN FOR SOME REPUBLICANS AND THIS IS WHY THE OBAMA WAVE CONTINUES TO GET LARGER. HIS BASE CONTINUES TO EXPAND TO INCLUDE EVERYONE. THE OLD SCHOOL pUNDITS WHO UNDERESTIMATED THE YOUNG VOTE LEARNED THEIR FIRST LESSON IN THE NEW pOLITICS OF CHANGE. BILL AND MEMBERS OF THE HILLARY CAMp ARE BLAMING EACHOTHER FOR HILLARY'S LOSS. WHAT THEY DO NOT REALIZE IS THAT OBAMA HAS TAppED INTO A NEW BASE, WHICH THEY ARE STRANGERS TO. THEY WERE NAIVE AND IGNORED THIS pART OF THE ELECTORATE. THEY DID NOT HAVE A SCRIpT READY FOR THE OBAMA WAVE. OBAMA HAS BEEN CATERING TO THIS BASE FOR YEARS NOW, TO CATCH Up TO HIM IN THREE WEEKS, IMpOSSIBLE, ESpECIALLY WHEN HE WINS ON TUESDAY BY DOUBLE DIGITS.

Seems like Hillary is more interested in power than helping the American people. I think Obama will be the best thing since FDR (weregonna need it after Bush)...likley better. One more thought, as an Iowan voter, I just want o say after what the Clintons tried here(Waterloo/ Cedar Falls area) they might want to be careful...they don't want to be remembered as the people that tried to destroy Obama.

  • Posted By: gigorgei @ 01/07/2008 4:56:29 AM

I think he is going to be the best President sice FDR...maybe bigger. Hillary and her voters seem to think they deserve the power even though she is losing in the polls or election. If she is truly cares about this country she won't try the Republican swiftboating and help the people. Also, her and Bill might want to lower the attacks; they don't want to be remembered like this once out of the limelight. By then, more than half the country will dislike her.

Read the article with interest. Indeed, it was a pleasure to know that Obama is working things differently and making politics 'honest and real.' I am from Bangladesh and am very keen on seeing a wonderful world full of bright ideas, proper vision and an equity driven society. I wish the positive campaign of Obama to continue and percolate across the globe. I am also deeply interested in politics and want to be a change maker in my country; therefore, I take pride when I see good politics coming forward in the USA. Pt2

Conservatives traffic in fear; it's their currency, and they know how to spread it around. The conservative electorate has been trained, like Pavlov's dog, to only respond to the tactics of fear. Conservatives need someone to hate, to denigrate, and to insult in order to energize their base. If it's not Blacks, it's women. If it's not women, it's gays. If it's not gays, it's Mexicans. Hatred of some thing, or some one is the only tool the Republican party has in its arsenal. In the last presidential election cycle it was gay marriage. Conservatives got their base mobilized in hatred of gays because giving John and Harry down the street the right to get married was somehow going to destroy America. It worked. The electorate embraced demonization as a rallying cry. In the current election cycle it???s immigration. The republican machine has once again successfully instilled enough fear in its electorate that poll respondents are actually saying Mexican immigration is the worst thing happening to the US today. Really? Worse than people dying in a war for no reason? Worse than folks having to make a choice between gas for their car and food? Worse than not being able to afford medications they can???t live without? The party of hate has its electorate snowed into believing that the only way things will get better for them is if they bring anyone down who???s different than they are. We???ve now had 20, 30, 40 years of republicans tearing people down with its fear machine. Has it helped? Are average republican voters any better off because they???ve naively bought into the false idea that Mexicans, gays, blacks, and women???s control over their own biology are destroying America? I can understand how Barack Obama???s message of hope doesn???t resonate with many republican voters. They???ve been so conditioned to base their choices on hatred and fear that a philosophy of hope must seem very foreign to them. But just because one may have unfamiliarity with the concept of being hopeful doesn???t make the message of hope false. Sometimes the difference between remaining mired in an economically distressed situation and finding a way to rise above it is the ability to be hopeful and optimistic. Barack Obama never said he would solve everyone???s personal and economic crises, but he did say he would do whatever is in his power to bring about a national climate in which Americans would believe there???s a reason to hope things will get better for them if they allow him the opportunity to serve the citizens of America as president.

Somehow, with everything that???s been perpetrated by George Bush, his puppeteers and his minions, in the last seven years, you???re able to mention the word ???deceit??? and not see the irony. Here???s to hoping republicans and conservatives see the light and finally realize that fear of the unknown is not a valid reason to shy away from it.

Liberals traffic in socialism, economic class warfare and brazen deceit about foreign and domestic policy that they purvey through false conspiracy theories that feed on people's paranoia about their economic and security circumstance. Their strategy is to divide voters by race, economics and faith. Their base premise is that their target market is unsophisticated and uneducated people who are susceptible to the "Big Lies" that Andrew summarizes so well in his message above. They will say or do anything in their insatiable quest to obtain political power by any means necessary and dishonesty is their weapon of choice. They operate on the same scam that was employed by Lenin 90 years ago to divide workers from their white collar countrymen and drag the Russian economy into a 70 year experiment in socialism that completely failed. As a result, Russia now has almost as many citizens as the USA but their economy is 5% of ours and their people live lives of endless subsistence for their failure to resist the sirens call of socialism that Obama and hiis opponents in the dem race have embraced as their means to achieve political power. Just remember that Adolf Hitler and Lenin were charismatic men who employed the exact same tactics and economic theories.

Capitalism is the foundation of America's prosperity, and the American dream, but the dem party has lurched dangerously left toward unvarnished socialism with their economic class warfare, their demands for socialized medicine paid for by higher income workers, their unjust vilification of corporate America, and their determination to raise taxes and drain the source of investment capital that drives economic growth and prosperity for all Americans. Generations of Americans have understood the collective benefits of capitalism that rewards productivity, education and innovation. The last thing America should do is answer the siren's call of the three unapologetic socialists who are leading the dem race. To embrace their message is to sound the death nell of the American dream.

    • Posted By: RobynG @ 01/07/2008 3:26:38 AM

Obama works in Washington too, don't forget. Can anyone explain why he's an "outsider" and Clinton is an "insider?"

  • Posted By: Island Son @ 01/06/2008 9:25:56 PM

Obama's appeal is the return to core American values - courage, hope, respect, honor, freedom of the individual over power of the state - values that have been ignored, eroded and abandoned by politicians and the people in the name of fear, safety, and profit. America would do well to return to these values, regardless of who wins in 2008. The challenge is find a leader, rather than a pandering politician, who will lead America back to these values. America has lost its way and status because we, the citizens, have failed to elect such leaders and collectively abandoned what made America great.

As for PoliticalRealityOnline (and others) who argue Obama is too inexperienced and that a candidate with greater experience and better resume is required for this new and dangerous world, it is a logical if time worn argument.. However, history has shown that every generation feels that way. And while it may feel that way, I doubt that the world is any more dangerous now than the WWII era, WWI era, Civil War era, etc. By this thinking, America was crazy to elect Roosevelt, Wilson, Lincoln, etc.

It is unlikely that any leader will have enough experience to have encountered all the challenges he (or she) will face. The best we can do is evaluate a candidate based their values and integrity and trust they will hold fast to those through every challenge and crisis. After all, it is not as if the current president had extensive experience with fighting terrorism, dealing with a resurgent Russia or the challenge of 21st century China when he was elected in 2000.

The huge point that eludes you is that Obama advocates a rapid exit from Iraq with no CREDIBLE plan for handling the human and economic chaos that will ensue when full scale civil war breaks out in Iraq, and Syria and Iran and Al Qaeda fill the security void and perfectly position themselves to threaten the Arab gulf states. This insanity would likely trigger a cut off of Iraqi oil exports, an explosion of oil prices and a global economic disaster. Obama's extreme naivete on these critical issues is reflective of a mind that has no comprehension of the world we live in or the geostrategic and economic stakes in Iraq. The simple fact is that Obama is pandering to Moveon.org and thereby placing his personal ambitions above America's national interests. As President you do not assume the best outcome on Iraq, you prepare for the worst outcome and do whatever is necessary to defend America's vital national interests, not pander to your political masters at Moveon.org. You are trying to defend the indefensible in your eagerness to embrace Obama's charismatic allure. Very scary stuff for America's kids if your myopic viewpoint prevails.

      • Posted By: obamawatch @ 01/07/2008 3:26:04 AM

So PoliticalRealityOnline, I suppose Bush's rush to war inb Iraq did consider the economic and human chaos that it caused in Iraq? It probably even considered the resulting civil war that is now in progress in Iraq? It is so very sad that courteousness, strength of purpose, and a lack of interest in attacking one's opponent (usually unfairly and with untruths) is considered naivete rather than the wisdom and fearlesness that it really represents--isn't it?

I believe, if somebody comes knocking your door and promises you to double your money in one year without showing you any proof and reference of his past investment performance, you'd tell him to take a hike instead of handing over your hard-earned money in his trust. So what has Obama got to show for that would earn your trust so easily. If you cannot come up with anything in detail, then I'll be by your house tomorrow 'cause I have Brooklyn Bridge to sell you and trust me---it's a great deal!

All these conspiracy theories about Rove and the GOP pushing for Obama b/c they can't beat Hillary need some substantiation or they're just silly hocus pocus. I know any number of "anyone but Hillary" Republicans. They HATE her, irrationally and viscerally. Want to mobilize the dispirited GOP base? Put Hillary in front of them as the candidate. You don't need conspiracy theories to suggest that: look at the polling. What is your evidence that she can beat them? Because she won a Senate seat in New York???

You want to dispirit the Democratic base and depress turnout? It's the one sure way to throw us back into the 2004 calculus that cost us the election: offer Democrats and independents more of the same old thing: the politics of yesterday. Facts are facts: Hillary polls weak among independents, and mobilizes the opposition. All this vague and unsubstantiated theorizing about GOP master plots needs to be replaced by a disciplined analysis of the structure of the electorate, political history, and the performance of the candidates vis a vis key demographics.

What an Awesome light of hope and inspiration. This is the way I believe the world wants to be for the most part.
This is the leader I want for my country, the role models I want for my children and grandchildren to follow. This is what JFK, and Martin Luther King lived and died for. It all started with a vision, hope and a dream.
God bless the Obama Family and all those who came before that dared to dream the impossible, walk the walk and fight that never ending fight. "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country". .

Herbie, no, I'm no high school campaign volunteer. I've worked Texas and Iowa politics since 91. And as far as measuring electability goes, I'll take professional polls over your unsubstantiated, amorphous impressions anyday.

The GOP cross-overs you talk about aren't the key demographic here. The independents are. And they are drawn to a message of positivity (morning in america, don't stop thinkin' about tomorrow, etc.). Even Neil Young voted for Reagan once. Obama has already shown that he draws independent voters, and increases the turnout.

And as far as dirt goes, lord knows that the Clintons have more than enough dirt to arm the GOP.

Second is the question of who mobilizes the bases. HRC mobilizes the conservative base like noone else, and turns off plenty of Dems besides, whether because of 15 years of GOP misogyny or legitimate reservations about her work for Wal-Mart, her support for credit card companies over children and mothers, or her vote for the war.

  • Posted By: Lisa-NewYork @ 01/06/2008 9:10:33 PM

Hillary is a phony. Plus how can she control our country when she couldn't take care of her own house! She would have earned the respect of more women voters if she had thrown her cheating husband to the curb and not used him as an attempt for political gain!

    • Posted By: RobynG @ 01/07/2008 2:36:23 AM

If she had kicked him out on the curb then run for president, the "blame the victim" people who have accused her of cowardice. I bet you'd find no one to support if we had an aquarium view of all the candidates' marriages and relationships...Simply irrelevant, sort of like Obama's teenage drug use and his weird church

  • Posted By: Suzyannb @ 01/07/2008 2:26:38 AM

Herbiemax, I certainly hope people pay attention to what you said. Yes the Republicans are pushing for Obama because they know they can beat him. They are afraid of Hillary because she has certainly had the experience to battle them and that makes her very qualified to lead the country. She will not lay down against the Republican ambush as John Kerry did. He was too nice and look what happened. I firmly believe this is Karl Rove's plan to get Obama on the ticket. Obama will not know what hit him if this should happen. It definitely has the Karl Rove smell. Why else are they pushing Obama?

  • Posted By: adam in iowa city @ 01/07/2008 2:23:02 AM

Suzy, are you kidding Obama might not know what a budget is? Get real, someone who excels at Harvard Law, who dedicates himself to community organizing, who serves in the Illinois legislature and the U.S. Senate doesn't know what a budget is? And as far as electability goes, in addition to the Gallup polls showing him faring better in the general, what do you do with the fact that the vaunted Clinton machine can't even carry its own party so far? Don't underestimate the power of the positivie appeal to the independent voter, especially after a divisive period like we've had. Reagan and Clinton I both demonstrated this.
