So you have six pages of article fawning over Mr. Nice, but not one example of experince that makes him ready to be President. Are you going to vet him after you annoint him the Democratic leader?

Why is there a Hillary backlash among both Republicans and Democrats? I would suggest it is her demeanor. Surely, there is some substance too, but having observed the extent of vitriol for our current president, I have concluded that in addition to the clear matters of substance which drive people to dislike him, Bush would be unsettling even if the matters of substance didn???t exist. Both Hillary and Bush remind me, in a perverse way, of a young dentist who unsuccessfully tried to remove one of my wisdom teeth. It wasn???t so much that he wailed away on me for the better part of an hour, trying to free the tooth from its perch to no avail. It was that he sweated, and his stomach gurgled while he did it. And what little he did say was with a voice which did not settle me. George and Hillary clearly have different voices, both literally and figuratively, but each is unsettling and annoying in its own way. At the other extreme in this campaign is John Edwards, who, on matters of substance frankly scares me to death. But his demeanor and voice, trained by years of practice as a trial attorney, are calming and persuasive. Who would I vote for? I do not know. But I remember a president who won over the country more or less on matters of substance, but who clearly carried himself in a way which did communicate trustworthiness. And he ultimately lived up to the image he showed in the debate he lost against JFK in the 1960 election. Form over substance? Who knows?
Sorry, the fourth sentence from the end should refer to a president who "clearly carried himself in a way which did NOT communicate trustworthiness.
"too-far-out-of -the-mainstream liberalism" - 1goldengirl
I won't go so far as to say Iowa is a mandate, but Obama's ability to draw reluctant (cross party) caucasers out, and his already strong polling in New Hampshire aka one of the most independent (perhaps, mainstream, no?) states in the primary bag, might be an indication that your 'mainstream' thermometer needs calibration. We shall see...
Though, as for the general, Obama's standard deviating liberalism may fair well against Mitt's 'too-far-out-of-the-mainstream-morminism', Huck's 'too-far-out-of-the-mainstream-belief in the world being 6000 years old' (though the man does know how to connect with a camera), or McCain's too-far-out-of-the-mainstream....hmm, he's a stumper, guess it'll be establishment vs. change-agent on that one.
"There are hints that Obama in a general election campaign would be ill-equipped to withstand the inevitable GOP barrage of attacks on his admitted past drug use, his left-of-center record, and his exotic ethnic background." These are very, very weak arguments.
THESE ARGUMENTS WILL NOT BRING HILLARY VICTORY. OBAMA represents a movement that is positive. The Hillary camp needs to keep their gloves on and open their minds to reality. Americans do not like your style of politics. . If the American people do not like you, they will not vote for you. They just don't get it. These are the issues Hillary needs to address, security. foreign policy, and the middle class. Handling GOP attacks is nothing for OBAMA. If you CAN HANDLE HILLARY YOU CAN HANDLE ANYBODY.
THE HILLARY CAMP is in denial. They need to listen to the PeoPle. Look how the HILLARY CAMP Have already began talking negative about Iowans. THE HiLLARY CAMp TURNED ON IOWANS.Trying to insinuate that they rarely Pick a President. Iowans are smart and never trusted the Clinton CamP that is why she came in Third. After all the TIME AND MONEY they spent in Iowa, the Hillary camp is now denying the importance ot the IOWA. They should been more humble and thank IOWA for teaching them their first lesson in the new .politics of change. Although the MESSAGE was sent loud and clear, The Hillary Camp did not hear it. They have insulted every Iowan that voted for them with those comments. This is the divisivness that democrats are tired off. There is a lot of bitterness in the Hillary camP, they refuse to recognize the movement behind OBAMA. They should embrace it. If Hillary had a good relationship with Al GORE WHY has he not endorsed her. If your own former vice president does not endorse you, that means you have "relationship" issues. Obama has not flip flopped, he has run a focus and postive campaign. He does not keep flipping the script. His speech was from the HEART In Iowa and Americans believe him. Hillary's camp does not understand that people want a new kind of politics. Her tactics might have worked in the ninety's but it does not work now. THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT OBAMA WILL BE THE NEXT president.
No, it is not Obama's youthful grug use or his mixed racial makeup, that will doom him in the general election when up against the Republican destruction machine. It's his too-far-out-of -the-mainstream liberalism, his empty rhetoric, and his obvious lack of political seasoning and hands-on experience
QUESTION TO ALL THE DEMOCRATIC OBAMAMANIANS: What assurance, certain or otherwise, is there that all these new Obama supportersmthe Obama mashine signs up in the primary fight actually will come out vote for Obama in the general election if he becomes the democratic nominee?
obama's greatest achivements are his speeches, he hasn't done much else to suggest he can lead this country. talk is cheap and obama is the queen of talk!
obamas greatest achievements seem to be his speeches, other than talking in public he has done much to suggest he can lead this country. talk is cheap and obama has to be the queen of talk
Yes, Barack Obama is certainly electable over Hillary. Right now, Hillary is poison and it may again become a dead heat race as in 2004, whereas Obama is more certain to get a definite majority. He's bringing in the not only Republicans and Independents and students, but a chunk people once apathetic to the political process. There are simply too many Republicans, Independents and even democrats will not vote for her under ANY circumstance. If McCain gets the nomination, he is certain to beat Hillary.

If you like term limits, nw, here's another: repeal the Amendment that changed the election of Senators from State legislatures to popular vote. This dang little text box they provide doesn't give me enough room to explain the ramifications of that act, but they have been monumental and literally created the Federal bureaucratic monster we have today. Google it.
I like the term limits for congress idea. Kinda Jacksonian.
Amen Galaxy. And the media still gives Carter a voice today. Of course, the Clintonites will refute your economic complaints regarding their man's terms, and talk of balanced budgets and booming economies. But try to get them to admit that the 90's boom, in retrospect, was built on fraud - the twin frauds of Y2K and the Internet, perpetrated by NY and SF liberals/thieves. The average American may have done well for a few years, butany money saved was lost in the crash that followed when the frauds were revealed.
The fair tax is a nice concept but in terms of real economics will it work is the question? Especially when we are able to purchase so much off of the internet. The IRS presently asks about internet purchases and states request that it be reported; however, I doubt many do comply. Fairtax will cause us to drum up more policies which will make us feel more controlled -- I think. One thing it will be good for is to make sure that illegal immigrants are paying there share.
Here's one for you: ever wonder why neither party accomplishes anything when they have control of Congress and the White House? I think they intentionally screw up because without a viable opposition, they can't raise campaign funds. Why isn't there a Centrist party????? Why do we ALWAYS have only polar opposition? A McCain-Lieberman ticket would run away with the election, but you'll never see it.
FYI, there is a solution to the political crisis in this country - and it ain't another glib ego like Obama promising change. The answer is soooooo simple and staring us in the face. Term limits for Congress. The entire legislative process is stagnant because the politicos only care about getting re-elected. And they can't get re-elected without K Street money. That all just disappears with term limits.
Dear Folks from the "Next Generation."
I'm 51 years old now, so I 'm certain that many of Obama's younger supporters would regard me as a member of the "Mesozoic Generation. But back in the 1976 I was one of the self-defined New Generation. In the aftermath of the twin disasters of Watergate and Vietnam, this presidential candidate whoalso promised a newer, gentler, and more "hopeful type of politics. In a fit of youthful, ill-informed idealism I voted ffor that man. Four years later, there were Russian troops in Afghanistan, fundmentalist mullahs holding the staff the U.S. Embassy in Tehran hostage, 50, 000 Cuban troops serving their Soviet masters in Africa, and a gigantic Soviet military buidlup that was growing more threatening by the day. As for the U.S economy it was locked in stagflation with a 9-10% unemployment rate and low double-digit interest rates, not to mention a top income tax rate of 70%. The man in 1976 who promised his fellow citizens so much hope was Jimmy Carter. In 1980 i voted for Ronald Reagan. Every time I see a photo of Barack Obama I see Carter standing beside him.
Be very careful, you might get what you pray for.
It's tough this time, newswatching. No one has excited me. And, as you might notice, I'm a bit cynical about it all (the poli-sci degree seems a waste in retrospect). In the past three elections, I have voted for the third party, for no other reason except to ensure they got matching funds. Plus, here in Texas, thanks to the Electoral College system, my vote doesn't count anyway. I like Huck and Ron Paul for supporting the Fair Tax - it ain't perfect, but it beats the heck out of what we have now. I like any candidate that promises to keep the Islamic terrorists on the defensive.
Had to report you for Abuse, eddiewhere. No one wants to see your same message over and over. Let me guess, you've actually created an auto-script that just keeps posting every few seconds, right? This forum needs to implement security to keep idiot propagandists like you out.
