I was a member at his church in Texarkana, and he is a personal friend of our families. He is a man of God and we need someone in the Presidential office that will pray for our Nation and believe "In God we trust".
I will stand behind him along with many others.............

Evotution is a THEORY - no one was there at the beginning - unless it was GOD. How arrogant for the party leaders to KNOW what is best. Isn't that the job of the people. You are right about this is just the logical conclusion. Mike Huckabee is REAL and GENUINE and truly wants to help America, and will include EVEYONE in the process. Only the secularists want us to believe a Bible-believing President would be anathema. The secularists don't WANT to be reminded that there are some who believe in God. The secularists are the most intolerant people in America. If Christians should tolerate Atheists, if should work the other way too.

The problem is that you people DON'T "tolerate" us!! You feel the need to preach the "truth" to us and tell us that if we do not believe in your god that we are going to burn in hell and there is no salvation and on and on and on. Stop preaching to me, stop trying to "save" me and people like me and I will be more tolerant. Until then I wioll not sit in silence while you try to put another bible thumper in office.

      • Posted By: blurmon @ 01/07/2008 4:53:57 PM

OK, OK. The next time someone tries to tell you how to save yourself from Hell and being burned forever, tell them you have decided to reject God and spend eternity with the Devil in Hell. It IS your choice and it IS your life that you want to gamble with. However, do you really want to gamble your life away? What if you are really wrong and the Bible is right that you have broken God's Laws, and that God being a just and ethical judge will hold you guilty for breaking His Laws? Wouldn't you really want the chance to listen and consider that the Bible might be correct and your assumptions about God are wrong? It s huge gamble and are you really prepared to play Russian roulette with your life? Remember, no one is asking for your money or asking you to join anything. Just asking if you really want to gamble with your life?

So angelus1967 says that if evangelicals stop preaching and trying to save him/her, he/she would be more tolerant of evangelicals, which is what blurmon askes for. Blurmons response to that, preaching!! "The next time someone tries to tell you how to save yourself from Hell and being burned forever, tell them you have decided to reject God and spend eternity with the Devil in Hell". What a joke. I'm a Christian, and I believe evangelicals give Christians a bad name. Evangelicals are the most ignorant and intolerant group of people I've ever known. Why can't you people just let others believe what they chose to and not chastise them for it? Is it against the brainwashing? And when are you ever going to understand that science and God, can be the same thing. Evolution is a theory, so is gravity. You say evolution is too complex to have happened, do you have any idea how complex your body is? Just b/c something happened slightly different then how stated in your english translation of the Bible, doesn't mean everyting else is inaccurate or this is no God, or whatever. Don't feel threatened. God gave us our brains for a reason. God made sheep, so what he intended for us is different. And don't assume you know, or anyone you've ever know, knows what God's plans are. That's just blasphemous.

coldiniowa2008 - Thank you! THis is all I ask, let me believe what I believe and leave it at that. I don't even mind a good discussion; I just cannot stand being preached at and told I am flat wrong and endangering my soul!
By the way, I'm from MN so I empathize with how cold it is in Iowa right now!!

Great reason to believe in a fairy tale. "What if?" I am NOT gambling my life! If anything I would be gambling my death but I am not doing that either. Dead is dead and if by some strange happenstance there were a god, don't you think he would see through your "What if? " scenario?
What a crock and an insult to normal intelligence. god and his sone the saviour....fairy tales that you are welcome to believe but are not worth my time or energy.

Concerning Howard Fineman's article, "The Huckabee Problem" ..

I'm confused as to how you can say in your article that Huckabee "does not believe in the science of evolution but does believe that the Bible is pretty close to literally true" and then go on to say, "and to them I say, let us turn to Paul's Letter to the Galatians, chapter six, verse seven, in which he writes: 'For whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.'"

So .. let me try to understand your logic. First, you say that Huckabee is wrong to believe the Bible in Genesis when it tells of Creation, and then you go on to quote Galatians to prove Huckabee - and Genesis - is wrong?

Just using ORDINARY logic and the human brain to reason things out, it seems to me that if you believe Galatians in the Bible and quote it as Truth, then you should believe ALL OF THE BIBLE as well. How can throw out Genesis and count it as false, deciding in your own human "wisdom" that you know better than God? Mr. Fineman, were you present during creation and do you know all the facts? How are you able to use Galatians like you know what you're talking about and slam Huckabee for believing in Genesis??

Here's a Bible quote for you, and reading it, you should shake in your boots Mr. Fineman:
2 Peter 2:1 "But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them???bringing swift destruction on themselves."

Using the ordinary human brain and logic would also tell you that the bible was written by dozens of different people at different times through history and they all had an agenda. Do you really believe that the Earth was created in six days by the hand of god? It has been shown time and again that this is simply not the case. That we would even NOMINATE a man who believes in creationism is enough to make us the laughing stock of the world. If we were to actually ELECT such a person then the rest of the world would be right in comparing us to radical islam in that the god belief would be running the country.
What makes you evangelicals better than the muslims? Same devotion, same fanaticism. I have been widely criticized and reviled for my opinions about god and christianity so I do not see the difference between christians and any other religious nut......

      • Posted By: arodoll @ 01/07/2008 4:01:38 PM

Fanatics in any religion are dangerous I believe. Most Christian doctrine teaches peace and tolerance. You may not believe this because some fanatical groups that are heavily publicized use the blanket of Christianity for deception (KKK, bombing abortion clinics, etc). Evangelicals are not better than Muslims, our beliefs are simply different. The difference between Christians and Muslims is simple. Christians are called to spread the word of God, Muslims are bound by the Koran to force Jihad against all those who are not Muslims. That is why you need to fear Muslim extremists. Nowhere in the Bible does God call on Christians for violence against others. Now you may find people preaching the word of God annoying but you shouldn???t have to fear that their entire religion and ultimate goal is for your death. The Koran speaks for itself. Also, it takes more faith to believe in evolution and the ???big bang theory??? than to believe in the Bible. Did we put the components in a bag and shake it up to get the atom bomb? Then try multiplying that complexity by 10 million and you get close to the ludicrously of the big bang theory. The Bible has never been discredited. Never. Yes, it was written by many different people but the words are coming from the same entity, God. If evolution is so compelling, why do so many scientists that study it become Christians? Besides, the rest of the world would not be laughing at us for having a leader that believes in creationism. Most of the world believes in it themselves because most religions (including Islam) believe in creationism as well. I mean if I evolved from an ape, why do apes still exist? Why are dinosaurs extinct? Did apes out-think them?

        • Posted By: angelus1967 @ 01/08/2008 9:14:14 AM

You would find that most of the world does NOT believe in creationism. I will not even try to explain evolution or the Big Bang, it is a serious waste of my time to try and explain that to a bible thumper. THe bible has been discredited many, many times. It is not the word of god it is the word of man written to have power over and cause fear in other men. I do not fear muslims any more than I fear christians; it is not merely anooying to be preached at, it insults my intelligence to be told that I must believe in fairy tales to be accepted in "heaven"......there is no such thing. When you die, you are dead. No lights, no holy spirit, no nothing......

        • Posted By: blurmon @ 01/07/2008 5:05:02 PM

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you need to read Jesus's words, all of them. Jesus came to bring conflict and tell people to repent. He came to bring a spiritual revolution and conflict between familes and people. He told there would be a terrible judgement one day and that those who are not His would be punished and suffer terribly. Jesus did not tolerate wrong doing, lies, stealing, adultery, idolatry, falseness, and taught that no one could get to God and Heaven except through him. How's that for intolerance and decisiveness? Read the Bible, get your facts straight, understand that EVERYONE of us has broken God's Laws and need to repent and go to Jesus for our redemption. Do you want to gamble your eternal future on being wrong in your current beliefs that are not Biblically accurate?

          • Posted By: arodoll @ 01/07/2008 5:35:58 PM

blurmon- I believe my facts are straight. Which part is biblically inaccurate? Jesus did not come to bring conflict as you say, he came to die for our sins. Bringing spiritual revolution does not require violence. As for judgment, He specifies for us not to judge others. I know some Christian circles judge others quite quickly but I believe true Christians rely on God to judge all. He knows all of our true hearts, our sins, and our repentance and He will judge us all indeed one day as we should be held accountable for our actions. You are correct that everyone sins and has broken God???s laws, we all fall far short of the Glory of God. I am definitely no exception. My issue is with judging an entire religion and belief system based on hate and ignorance. The violence that comes with tribulation is due to man???s ego and defiance. The Bible simply describes it, it does not call on Christians to be violent. God gives everyone a chance at salvation and He gives everyone a chance at repentance. Every time you ask for forgiveness and repent, He wipes the slate clean. If that is not tolerance, what is? What other entity can offer you that?

    • Posted By: angelus1967 @ 01/07/2008 9:59:19 AM

And we need to "shake in our boots" also. I suppose that living in fear of a myth makes your life fuller but I do not have time for it. Good luck with all of that.....

It isn't entirely fair to pin the end result of the GOP's decades-long catering to the religious right squarely on Huckabee. Ironically, one of the main reasons that he is getting so much flak for his fundamentalist views is because he's honest about it. That, and it's hard to hide, sure as he might, the fact that he was a pastor. However, let us not forget that his more prominent brother-in-arms, mister Mitt Romney also has a fundamentalist Mormon base. The only difference is he has had the "advantage" of hiding it by sidestepping all questions about it. Romney too is the result of the same breeding program spoken about here. Mind you I don't care for either of the two as my president, but one has to at least respect the one of the two who is more honest about their stances on things, even if you do disagree with them entirely.

Iowa maginalized itself by voting for Huck; he won't win; he can't win, and if he does win the GOP is doomed. The South created the Republican party and will most likely kill it if Huck gets nomination. I'd like to see the picture where he's 200 pounds overweight.

Where's the party the is fiscally conservative and socially moderate?

    • Posted By: dubldoc @ 01/08/2008 7:59:32 AM

Tim, the Repub party wasnt created in the South (quite the opposite in history in fact), but the GOP has essentially been THE party of the South since the 'Southern Strategy' of the late 60's/early '70's defined it as a party of white males fearing disenfranchisement. I used to love the GOP til Nixon, and certainly it no longer bears resemblance to the party of true fiscal conservatism and personal privacy/freedom it once did
under Barry Goldwater. We will see a Dem in the White House in '08.

Someone needs to look into why Huckabee ordered all Arkansas state owned computers and their files destroyed before he left office. Thier replacement cost the tax payers of that state millions. Rumors also aboud that his weight loss was not totally from a change in lifestyle, but a hushed gastro bypass operation. If those rumors are true, he has lied to the public. Medical records need to be examined. And as for family values, one need only look at the trouble that his sons have been involved in over the past few years. The apple never falls far from the tree.

  • Posted By: indyrunnn @ 01/08/2008 6:38:48 AM

There is a lot to be concerned about where Huckabee is concerned. Someone should look into his dictate to destroy all state computers and their files before he left office. What was he afraid would be found? There are also reports that his dramatic weight loss involved more than just a change in lifestyle. Rumors abound that he underwent gastro bypass surgery. If that is true, he has out and out lied. I think that it's also important to look at his family and the trouble that his kids have been involved in. No great family values there, and the apple never falls far from the tree.

I've got to say, after reading a 100 or so responses, seems like voting Ron Paul is the answer we're all looking for.

  • Posted By: EmilyScully @ 01/08/2008 4:19:33 AM

I've got to say, after few about a hundred comments full of concerns either direction, seems like Ron Paul is the answer we're looking for.

  • Posted By: straycat @ 01/08/2008 3:53:30 AM

They are wary of him because they thinkl he may have his religion for real. They will use religion,ie...'family values', 'God hates gays' etc.... as long as they know its a sham. , like the compassionate conservative criminal we have in office

  • Posted By: straycat @ 01/08/2008 3:47:28 AM

The GOP is very uneasy about this guy (and I'm not a fan) because they see him maybe taking his religon seriously. They don't mind religion being used, like in "family values" and "God hates gays" as long as they know it is all a sham, like the religion used by this compassionate conservative criminal now in office.

Obviously you don't know how to use YouTube and have not taken the time to visit Huckabee's website. There is a video "Pastors and Pews" where Huckabee is speaking to a pastorial convention. Obviously you didn't watch the debate and haven't turned on any of the Huckabee interviews. Honestly this article says nothing, most of the nothing not even true. Its poorly written and barely makes sense. Where did you learn to organize ideas to actually express an idea. I can't believe Newsweek would publish the article that says nothing, goes no where and takes a page to say what could have been said in three sentences. This is absurd.

  • Posted By: qjsmit01 @ 01/06/2008 1:51:55 PM

I lost respect and interest in Huckabee the moment he, in his political savy way, bashed on Romney's religion. That wasn't right and very distasteful.

    • Posted By: blurmon @ 01/07/2008 5:50:42 PM

Mormons bashed Abe Lincoln for his support to free the slaves. They lost me then.

      • Posted By: wyocby @ 01/08/2008 2:00:58 AM

You were around back then??? Wow, you are a wise one! I suppose you have been reading a bunch of nonsense on the internet and believing every word of it. I just did a quick search and found two different articles one saying that Mormons had problems with Lincoln and another saying they liked him. If you are going to base your dicisions on what may or may not have happened in the 1800's you are going to have a lot of studying to do...just make sure you do it on all the candidates and their religions! This is rediculous!

  • Posted By: Silverloch @ 01/08/2008 1:38:54 AM

I listened carefully to Huckabe's response on the creation question. I heard a position that an evolutionist can accept--if the evolutionist is a purist in the empirical sense. If however the evolutionist is an evolutionist from a religious, faith-based-athiestuc perspective, one that precludes the disposition of the existence of God, then Huckaby's response becomes problematic. But then of course, a science isn't supposed to have preconclusions, prejudice or presuppositions that are empirically falsifiable right?.

Considerable debate on this question by evolutionary theists exist. Primarily the critque of the issue boils down to mechanism versus purpose. The biblical text is about purpose, the evolutionary theory is about process. They do not have to be mutually untenable. Huckaby's response fair and honest, and ultimately he concedes that he was never a witness to "creation's" modus. This is an important place that offers reconcilliation to the polemic that is the current boil on the face of science in America. It would be nice if someone had eyes to see it that way who wrote from the neo-podium of Newsweek's America.

Fineman would clearly like to portray evangelicals as an ignorant and monolithic bunch as it perpetuates his stereotype of us and furthers his agenda of electing a democrat to the White House. Any freshman poli-sci major knows that Iowa is hardly a definitive precursor to anything. Many of my evangelical friends are loathe to support Huckabee because he's not a conservative. Count me as an evangelical Rudy supporter.

    • Posted By: wyocby @ 01/08/2008 1:35:54 AM

ah, now that makes sense! An evangelical that supports the only pro-choice candidate on the Republican side. I will never figure you guys out. If you looked really hard you might find someone who's life experience actually reflects the values you so emphatically support but for the blinders you can't see it!
