Huckabee Shakes Up GOP Race

In the end, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee's folksy ease and humor on the trail--and his preacher's ease in speaking about his evangelical Christian faith against former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's hesitant handling of his Mormonism--seemed to weigh heavily in his favor.

Humbled by his Iowa victory, Huckabee was no less confident that he'd end up at "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue a year from now." Not that this stopped Romney, who outspent Huckabee roughly 20 to 1, from spinning his second-place finish as evidence that people are tired of Washington politics as usual. Sen. John McCain, whose own campaign was all but declared dead six months ago, also had reason to cheer as he battled for third place with former senator Fred Thompson. The night's biggest loser was Rudy Giuliani, who was never expected to do well in Iowa since he's been focusing his energies on later primaries. But his surprising sixth place finish behind Rep. Ron Paul has greatly increased the importance of New Hampshire for the former New York City mayor. A look at Huckabee's win and how the other candidates spent their week in Iowa.
