Comment: The religious bashing is getting old and so are the suggestions that the Mormon Church will run the country through Mitt Romney. Was this true for Mass. when he was Governor? Were people in Mass forced to give 10% of their wages to the church or forced to attend Sunday meetings or to keep the Sabbath day holy? Was drinking alcohol or coffee banned in Mass during his time as Governor? Similarly, were the employees of Bain Cap harrassed, threatened or terminated if they did not join the Mormon church or if they drank a cup of wine with dinner? Come on people - quit mud slinging and come up with something that legitimately sticks. If you are truly going to oppose an individual or an issue, speak factually and educatedly - quit pontificating!.

Comment: Sir, lets think about this from a non ignortant point of view, If I were anyone in this election, I would hope to be Romney, Romney has 2 second place wins and 1 first place win, better than both McCain, Guiliani, and Huckabee. Saying Mitt is done is like saying Dennis Kucinich will will the presedency- you really should not be so negative, by being positive it will make your life better. Have a great day!

Comment: While it did seem very biased and against Romney, I was totally sold on Romney when he talked about being the best man for the job. Mitt was right about the same old people just changing seats. Almost all the other candidates who have served, McCain for example, he has been in officer for how long? Yeat McCain has done what to make true change? Now all the sudden after all the many years he did nothing to creat change he now has an answer to do so? I live in Massachusetts and I know first hand how Mitt was as Gov. He did more in his 4 years than the combo of Kerry/Kennedy have done in there entire history combined. Mitt's stance on taxes is from his heart. He tried to lower Mass state tax but got cut at the knees from Kennedy/Kerry. He stood on his promise to bring what Kennedy had promised the people of Mass several years ago but when he went to do it, the same idiot who promised it back then was the same man who killed the purposal. Many wonder why Mass is the way it is and many forget that Kerry, Kennedy or even the now famouse Duval "gimmie your money" Patrick do not pay state tax, they are exempt so if the people of Mass had to pay 90% taxes they wouldn't care. Mitt also made it law for ever resident of Mass to have health coverege. This helped me personally. My HC was $597 a moth for me and my familey, Mitt made it affordable by allowing the state to take some of my taxes and even out my payments for coverage. I only pay around $120 a month now and the taxes collected are used to help the people as they were intended. Romney also balanced the state budget that was in the negative. He brought back a surpluse to the people in order to lower the state tax that he failed to do not because of his lack of work but because of the democrats who talk so much about being for the people when they are out there only for themself. IMO, Romney would make the best president that we have had in many years. His honesty, integrity and his pure "care" for the peopl has always seperated him from everyone else. Not only does his record prove it, the man himself shows it.

Comment: Mr. Hoyt, are you a mormon basher? Too bad the best and most honest candidate, Mitt Romney, gets trashed by a small group of people like yourself. I am a mormon, and I am not perfect like yourself. I would rather see a calm Mitt Romney ( as he always is ) talking to a foreign leader rather than a rah rah person like Huck or McCain who can't think faster than their mouth talks. People only attack those who threaten them. Mitt, keep taking it on the chin because you will win out. This isn't a popularity contest, this is a contest about who is best for the job. Do we want a man who wants to convert the country to being Baptist and slamming other religions, a man who runs on his Viet Nam record, or someone who fixes things and knows how to fix financial problems. Last time I heard, the US was 9 trillion in debt. Who can handle that problem, someone who has been in the senate forever and has seen this debt rise because of support for foreign wars or someone who is a preacher. I think someone who is a financial genious needs to help guide us out of debt. Personally, I think Mitt is a great person. Quit the bias card, Mormons are Christians and we beleive in helping all people. We believe that all people have the right to practice their own religion and we also believe in following the law of the land and uphold the Constitution. Huck doesn't believe a person should have the right to practice his faith as witnessed by his attack on Romney. If that doesn't smack the Constituion in the face, I don't know what does. And of course everyone ganging up on Romney in a debate, well, they must be afraid and want him out. That should scare you, because these people want to make sure they get into office, but are the qualified?

Comment: I was frustrated and annoyed by the bickering and personal attacks. I wanted to hear how the candidates planned to do to carry out their policies. Instead, much of the time was taken us by "no you didn't - YES I DID!" I listened to the Spin Room talk and was suprised McCain felt he came out on top. I can see now that he did, but I lost some of my previous respect for him. He seemed to play the part of the bully. I know he wasn't the only one bickering, but was most persistent and seemed to truly relish attacking Romney. Severaly times I wished Romney would give it a rest, but I could also see that he was repeatedly backed into a corner . I would probably want to clear my name too, if I was on national television. I hope the next caucus is more polite and productive.

Comment: Romney: Establishment isn't enough. Money isn't enough. Normally with a small field, an establishment Republican (GWB) can survive early losses, but this time the field is large and Huckabee is waiting to chop Romney up. If he doesn't win the next three, he's done. A prediction: Romney goes all in in Michigan, a contest that previously hasn't been getting much attention.

  • Posted By: PeterSedesse @ 01/08/2008 1:46:13 PM

Comment: Just for the record. The 14 'ethics' complaints raised against Huckabee were brought about by an Arkansas board that was completely appointed by Gov's Tucker and Clinton. The board itself is a sham and just a 'legal' sounding way for the democrats to attack Huckabee during his re-elections. All of the complaints came out shortly before elections, and not a single one of them went anywhere. Despite the fact that Democrats controlled the legislature there. It's hard to believe that Romney republicans would use something coming from 'Friends of Bill' as a way to attack Huckabee. Romney, here is a clue.. just because you spend 10million dollars saying something, doesn't mean it is true. (ask Iowans)

Comment: I just saw that Giuliani is rated #5 and Huckabee #6 in Judicial Watch's ???Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians??? for 2007. What does this mean for these candidates? For us if they got elected? I'm not so sure about these candidates. McCain and Romney seem to have the best ethics record and would have the best chance in beating the democratic nom. http://www.judicialwatch.org/judicial-watch-announces-list-washington-s-ten-most-wanted-corrupt-politicians-2007 5. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R-NY): Giuliani came under fire in late 2007 after it was discovered the former New York mayor???s office ???billed obscure city agencies for tens of thousands of dollars in security expenses amassed during the time when he was beginning an extramarital relationship with future wife Judith Nathan in the Hamptons?????? ABC News also reported that Giuliani provided Nathan with a police vehicle and a city driver at taxpayer expense. All of this news came on the heels of the federal indictment on corruption charges of Giuliani???s former Police Chief and business partner Bernard Kerik, who pleaded guilty in 2006 to accepting a $165,000 bribe in the form of renovations to his Bronx apartment from a construction company attempting to land city contracts.

    6. Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR): Governor Huckabee enjoyed a meteoric rise in the polls in December 2007, which prompted a more thorough review of his ethics record. According to The Associated Press: ???[Huckabee???s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor???s office.??? And what was Governor Huckabee???s response to these ethics allegations? Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down.

Comment: This has truly been fascinating, but not surprising in the least. Mormons are accustomed to it. But please, people, focus on the issues. They are what matter in a political debate. As someone mentioned earlier, we're not choosing a priest. When it comes to fixing the exonomy or the health care crisis, does a candidate's specific view of the Trinity really matter?? I would hope that all people would vote the issues, Mormons included. Voting for Romney just because he's Mormon is just as stupid and ignorant as voting against him for the same reason.

Comment: I don't see any Mormons blowing themselves up for 'God'. Many of Reagan's advisers were Mormon. The one candidate whose religion is a true threat to the U.S.(Islam) is getting a pass, while Romney is torn apart because of his.

    • Posted By: Idawho @ 01/07/2008 17:19:49

Comment: Are you speaking of Obama as a Muslim? I would ask that you check your facts because he is not a Muslim. I find it unfortunate that one would say something like this about one of our Presidential candidates knowning the damage it may cause. Regardless of the candidate's party, one of these individuals will be our next President.
"Romney is torn apart" because of the negative nature of the campaign he is leading against other Republican candidates. They too are guilty of negative actions and campaigns, but the focus Romney has made on negative ads overshadows his positive message.
I find that the issue of Romney's Mormonism is being exacerbated by the LDS faithful more so than others outside of the organization in this discussion. This article did not have a religious tone or sentiment, so why is his faith brought out by the LDS in this discussion? Yes, there are the occassional cracks from people on the religious right, but overall his religion is being discussed by fellow LDS. Why does one feel that the faith and church of the LDS needs to be so vehemently defended? Why are the faiths and religions of the other candidates not needing such explosive defense from fellow members of their collective churches? Why are the LDS faithful so quick to attack and defend their truth?

Comment: Couldn't agree more, Ken. The postings that came after I proposed my questions, answered all of them. This is threatening to them because they know the TRUTH about their church. While their faith is strong, they know that the foundation of their church is without merit and based on fraudulent actions by a deceitful person in the 19th century. This article was about politics, but was made about a cult belief and fought under the directive of their corporate command through "church leaders." A concerted effort has been made since 1999 to attack all individuals on the internet to dispell the truth about their cult. If you want references, respond and all provide the video of your "leaders." But, you've seen it before and know what I'm speaking about here. Mormons, remove yourselves from this political forum, and let the man known as Mitt Romney run a clean campaign. He will succeed without your vile and vicious attacks against people on a chat room site if he truly represents the U.S.A. If you want to talk about politics, please, bring on the discussion. Your desire to defend your beliefs has gotten old. If you weren't so unsure of your beliefs, why try to defend them on a political discussion board. Move on to a positive site. I am happy to know that people like Mr. Hoyt and myself know your true intentions behind the attacks you have made.

        • Posted By: choonzer @ 01/08/2008 00:50:01

Comment: Yeah Ken, it's all about their self-doubt. Their defensiveness has absolutely NOTHING to do with the zealous attack you and others have waged on this site and in the media from the very beginning. The fact is, Mormonism isn't like other Christian faiths, and has been the whipping post of Evangelicals since its founding. No other candidate's faith is controvertial in the least, yet articles like this one about the actual debate issues quickly degenerate into what we have seen here. Most Mormons hold their beliefs very near and dear to their hearts, and find immense joy and peace in them. Is is really surprising that they sometimes bristle when they AND their beliefs get publicly dragged through the mud time and again? If you can't understand that basic reaction, you really may be as thick as your posts have suggested.

Comment: Yes, you're obviously appalled, judging by how much time you've spent spewing venom about Mormons on a supposedly political site. I must tell you, however, that my rather extensive experience with Mormons has led me to believe that regardless of their doctrines, they try very hard to be good neighbors, employees, community members, and citizens. Agreeing with their doctrines is a completely personal choice. But disagreement is no cause for trashing them. That's about as silly as me trashing all eaters of Chinese food because I'm personally repulsed by egg foo yung.

Incidentally, I've known several Mormons with very extensive knowledge of both the Bible and their own church, and I'd wager there are plenty more of them out there. You suggest, rather naively, that you know more about Mormonism than most Mormons do. That's easy to say, but frankly ridiculous. I'm confident there are plenty of them that are better educated than yourself, both in Mormonism and in general. But since you're obviously so biased on the subject, I expect you'll say they're all brainwashed or something.

Comment: We can debate until the end of time regarding religion, we can try to analyze what this or that prophet meant. We can take apart meaning of words that has been changed throughout history (ie, hebrew, greek, latin, english, etc...). Or, in our arrogance we can try to utilize our great intellect and or have biblical scolars decipher the mysteries of the bible, or the cryptic hidden messages between the verses. I know that the gospel is pure and simple, but unfortuately there is one continuing fact, people (past and present) either don't believe or don't want to believe the prophets, they've ridiculed them, spit on them, stoned them, and even when they were finally confronted by the Savior Jesus Christ, they would rather kill to than hear the truth and have to believe the word. When I was taking discussions with the missionaries they told me that I didn't have to take for granted what they taught me, that if I wanted to know for myself if the things i've hear and read were true, that I should find a quiet place, kneel down, and give simple but heartfelt and humble prayer. Then according to God's will, the Holy Ghost who testifies will provide an answer. Finally, if people would just live by 1st and 2nd great law given to us by God, "Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and all thy soul, and with all thy mind., and the second like unto it Love thy neighbor as thyself, On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. When all is said and done... Nuff said.

    Comment:

While those of you who think Mormonism is a freakish religion clash with those of you who are Mormons, both would profit to read the article "Smith, Joseph" from the universally esteemed Encyclopaedia Britannica (ed. 1996), which begins as follows:

    Quote

    Smith, Joseph

originally JOSEPH SMITH, JR. (b. Dec. 23, 1805, Sharon, Vt., U.S. -- d. June 27, 1844, Carthage, Ill.), American prophet whose writings, along with the Bible, provide the
theological foundation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other Mormon denominations.

Smith grew up in western New York at a time of intense religious revivalism. He was a literate but unschooled lad from a large family, and his neighbours at Palmyra, N.Y.,
remembered him as a diviner who dug for buried treasure.

One day in the woods, at the age of 14, Joseph Smith experienced what he conceived to be an intense spiritual revelation of God and Jesus Christ.

In 1827 he claimed that an angel had directed him to buried golden plates whose engraved surfaces contained a history of the American Indians describing them as descendants of Hebrews who centuries earlier had sailed to North America by way of the Pacific. This Book of Mormon he translated from "reformed Egyptian" with the aid of special stones. Published in 1830, the book was offered by him as scientific evidence of his divine calling. Most non-Mormon scholars, however, regard the book as a collection of local legends of Indian origin, fragments of autobiography, and current religious and political controversies (especially that connected with the Anti-Masonic movement), all transformed with remarkable ingenuity into a religious document.

    Unquote

Elsewhere, in the article " Mormon ", it says"

" polygamy, which was practiced by Smith himself and by most leading Mormons until, under pressure from the federal government, the practice was given up. The Mormon way of life is still distinguished by order and respect for authority, church activism, strong conformity within the group, and vigorous proselytizing and missionary activities. "

Comment: The other candidates show their true character, i.e. their true lack of character when they accuse and make defamatory character assassinations about Mr. Romney changing his position on certain issues. They are deceiving voters when they say or infer that Mr. Romney changed his position on these few issues and then changed positions again and again. The fact is Mr. Romney changed his position only once on these issues when he learned of additional facts and information that he was not aware of originally. The other candidates are very well aware of this. Since when is it a sin, a crime, or a mental or moral ineptitude to change your position for a more correct position? The fact is, it is an intelligent, correct, and responsible thing to do and Mr. Romney or anyone else should be admired and applauded for doing so. As far as Mr. Romney walking the walk as a true Christian, anyone that thinks not, has not adequately or fairly looked into his background or lifestyle. From what I have heard and seen from the other candidates, if they can not do any better than attempt to bring themselves up to someone's higher level of standards and values than by bringing that person down to their level by deception and defamatory character assassinations, they have no business in the positions they are currently in let alone be President of the United States. Americans deserve a President that maintains a level of high integrity, standards, and values. I hope there are enough Americans who will be able to come out and vote for such a person rather than have the choice of the lesser of two evils.

I see a lot of people on here have pretty much made up their minds already for Ron Paul or Huckabee or Romney. I notice a lot of religious talk on here concerning Mitt Romney? Why? What does his religion have to do with anything? I understand that some people may get annoyed with mormon missionaries always comming to their door, but those mormons just are happy with their religion and want to share it with others. I also have grown up with friends that are mormon and they always have people who try to tell them what their own religion teaches because some preacher that is not a mormon or never has been, thinks he is an expert of everyone else's religion and can only talk bad about other religions that aren't his. Then you have all the literature and videos that supposedly give light on what the mormons really believe, but of course! None are made by a member of the church.

If Mormons are not Christians then please explain why they are called "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; yet other churches out there with similar names are called Christians. Just because someone in the Mormon religion may have shared their views or values and the way they choose to live or interpret them, but this does not interpret the Mormon Church as a whole. The Mormon people I know are good people who share Christian values with people around them, they are not cult members.

If someone of a different ethnic background or religion does something to me that is offensive or goes against what I believe does it give me the right to stereo type those people of the same ethnic background or religion as bad people or cult members. What happened to Americans belief in the constitution of the right to worship freely?

If someone talks to me at the water cooler about a Catholic priest molesting a child and that person say???s ???ya those catholic people have no values.??? Well should I adopt a stereo type attitude about Catholics because a priest made a bad choice or because someone at the water cooler shared his opinion or stereo typical opinion about all Catholics as a whole? The answer to the question should always be no. People in this country need to look at someone for who they are and if they possess integrity and character along with moral values then it doesn???t matter what religion or ethnic background they are. Stop believing everything you hear from Joe shmo and look at people with an open mind until they prove themselves guilty.

Comment: To think a candidates spiriual beliefs have no bearing on their qualifications is misguided at best. If their beliefs are real they will be included in every decision they make. The fact is that Mormonism is a cult-and the most dangerous kind. It was founded and spread by the Father of all lies. To elect a member of this cult to the highest position in our country would be a grave error.

I understand what you are saying about the religon possibly influancing him because that is the cry all non religous people use. Ya know, that nice little thing about seperation of church and state was written for a reason and like it or not, that does protext us from a president doing exactly what you are so worried of him/her doing. How come your not bashing Obama who happens to belong to a racial hate group "Church" when it is so blatenet that he belongs to it? The who finger pointing only seems to stem from the republican side yet Obamas affiliation with Trinity United Church of Christ is a know black supremacy group who openly admits that the jewish peopl need to be removed and"delt" with because they stole the land from the Palastinians. Obamas Church where he was married and also had his children baptized at runs on a system titled " The Black Value System" which is the message that the "white man is the devil" Why is not one news agency touching on this? Why is not one liberal questioning this? Why is the republican side of the house and there beleifs the only ones that matter? Until you find out about your hero Obama and know that even though he has made agreements with pastor Wright to seperate himself for the time being, why dont we even the board and look into the democratic side of this "hanous" fairytail called religon.........................

Comment: Are you kidding me? I would rather vote for an atheist that can fix our Nation than a baptist preacher or a buddhist or follower of islam that has nothing more to offer than their supposed spirituality. In case you haven't seen the news lately, we're in the middle of a war and an economic crisis. Our country needs help, not more bigotry. As a Christian myself, I believe that we need inspired leaders, but the Lord can inspire anyone of any religion to make good decisions. Ever heard of Ghandi? (ps- Ghandi wasn't a Christian.) Whether you believe in Mormonism or not doesn't change that Romney is a qualified candidate who has good ideas. So what if he used to think the state shouldn't block abortions if that is the law under the Constitution? He has repented of that notion and is willing to work to stop abortions. As a Christian, you wouldn't throw out all of the writings of the Apostle Paul just because he used to fight against the Church before he was converted! Show some of the love, compassion, and forgiveness the Lord calls for in the Bible- not just for people who believe the same way you do. Make a decision based on who will help fix our nation, not simply on gender, race, or religion.

Comment: ABOUT ROMNEY (who DOESN'T change positions): in 1994, during his earlier, unsuccessful run for Massachusetts governor against Democrat Ted Kennedy, Romney projected himself as being committed to a pro-choice policy. Subsequently, in 2002, while running again for Massachusetts governor, Romney remained an ardent supporter of women's right to choose. But later Romney CHANGED his position.
Romney similarly reversed his reformist views with regard to gay rights. After declaring himself staunchly in support of equal rights for gays in 1994???a position he retained even in 2002???he suddenly changed his stance and declared marriage out of bounds for gay couples.
Another issue is federal funding for stem cell research. In 2005, Romney held a position that favored state sponsored embryonic stem cell research, saying, "I believe stem cell research is important for our state and for our nation." However, he subsequently shifted to a more conservative stance, and opposed funding for research involving embryonic stem cells.

Comment: So, do you want an idealogue who thinks they are always right, no matter what, or a leader who is willing to admit that they were wrong and pursue a better course in the future? No other candidate except Huckabee is as strong against gay rights and abortion as Romney, but at least Romney isn't going around making empty promises about doing away with the income tax. Huckabee even admits he won't be able to get the fair tax through Congress (he said so on the Shaun Hannity radio show last week.). He's counting on "the people" to pressure Congress. Well, if Huckabee can't do it, then what do we need him for? Romney is a proven financial sucess and CAN help fix our economy.

        Comment: foz1011,
its not that we don't want a leader who changes his position after becoming enlighten with new information or a vision because we do. Mitt Romney simple has done it too many times and some pretty opportunistic times. And then, to make matters worse, he begins to point fingers at other candidates and saying they are failing on some basic tenets of conservativism that he was failing on no more than a week prior to his conversion.

This is why people upchuck when ever Mitt claims yet another epiphany

Comment: The other candidates show their true character, i.e. lack of character, when they accused Mr. Romney of changing policies. They deceive and lie when they accuse and make character assassinations about Mr. Romney changing positions back and forth several times which is just not true and they very well know it. Mr. Romney did change positions only once on each of these issues when he became aware of additional information that he was not origionally aware of. Of course this is the intelligent and responsible thing to do. Obviously the other candidates are not any better than what the Clinton's are known for. And if they aren't any better than this, they surely are not fit to be in the positions they are in at present, let alone be a President of the United States. Are these the kind of individuals we want for a leader if we know they can only get on another persons level by dragging them down to their level by deception and making false character assassintions? And anyone that does not think Mr. Romney walks the walk as a true Christian has not looked into Mr. Romney's true character and background and have not given him a fair evaluation. It appears and is obvious to me the other candidates have shown their true lack of character in this campaign and obviously don't even begin hold a candle to Mr. Romney's character.

Comment: Huckabee's comment on healthcare was fanciful at best....he claimed we should adopt preventive health care methods to fix people before they get ill. Of course that SOUNDS NICE...but I don't see how any government policy will EVER be able to do that.
INCONVENIENT TRUTH: Americans will have to go to the hospital and we all need affordable insurance. ROMNEY has the plan to make this affordable. The other candidates (Huckabee) just spout off ideals that could never be implemented through government policy.

Comment: So Huckabee has said that we need to change health care. Every candidate has said that. What I would like to know is how. Does he have a plan to do it? Of the candidates I have seen, Obama and Hillary are of the few candidates that have a plan for health care, which would require massive tax increases to cover the costs, and Romney is the only candidate that actually has experience successfully reforming health care, and plans to do the same for the country as president. Does Huckabee, or any of the other Republican candidates have a plan to follow through on this?

Comment: The great truth revealed in the New Testament is that the eternal God became one of us; He became a human being.

And the word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14).

The Apostle Paul echoes John???s thoughts:

Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and coming in the likeness of humanity (Philippians 2:6,7).

    The Incarnation Of Jesus Christ

God became a human in Jesus Christ. This is known as the ???incarnation.??? Incarnation is from the Latin meaning ???in flesh.??? Although it is not a biblical word it presents a biblical truth. Jesus is the eternal God who became flesh and blood. Jesus became a man at a point in time in history. He did so without giving up His oneness with God. He became a human being without a sin nature. ???In flesh??? means more than Jesus had a physical body ??? He was a complete human personality.
Jesus Laid Aside His Heavenly Glory

In becoming a human being Jesus laid aside His heavenly glory to live among us. The question is, why did He do it? The Scriptures give us several reasons why Jesus came to earth.

    1. He Wanted To Further Reveal God To Humanity

The first and foremost reason was to give a further revelation of God to humanity. If you wish to know what God is like you need go no further than to look at Jesus. The Bible says.

No one has ever seen God, but God the one and only, who is at the Father???s side, has made him known (John 1:18).

This verse teaches that Jesus explained God to humanity. We need no longer wonder what God is like; Jesus shows us. Jesus Himself said.

Jesus answered: ???Don???t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ???Show us the Father??????(John 14:9).

Jesus Did This By Both Words And Deeds

Jesus claimed that God guided both his words and deeds.

Jesus gave them this answer: ???I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these??? (John 5:19,20).

    Jesus said.

But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father (John 10:38).

Jesus??? work of reaching out to the vilest of sinners revealed the heart of God the Father. Those who criticized his work among the worst sinners revealed their lack of understanding with God???s desires.

Comment: I am getting frustrated with these "news" articles. I wasn't able to watch the debate, and I'm finding it nearly impossible to find any news articles that describe any of the issues discussed in the debate. Almost every article I've read has quoted Huckabee and McCain's "zingers" and tried as hard as they can to portray Romney as the negative, attacking, flip-flop candidate, but they can't actually discuss the issues.

Whenever I try to find information on what Huckabee stands for, it seems all I can find is that his god is better than everyone else's, so we should vote for him. It seems that worked in Iowa, as I saw he credited his victory to God. As someone who isn't a Baptist, that scares me. If he thinks God is putting him in office, how is that going to affect his policy making towards religions that are not his own once he's in office? And what is it, exactly, about his political positions that make him God's choice? What little I've found on his actual political experience makes him seem like the least qualified candidate for the job. Everyone seems so concerned about Romney's religion. Even if Romney's religion is a little weird, at least he???s not making it a political issue, and has made it clear that he won???t serve his religion in office.

I used to consider myself a Christian conservative, but I have seriously had to rethink that after seeing the Iowa caucus. I find it troubling that there are that many people that would vote for a candidate based solely on his religion. If they are so ignorant as to do so, I really don't want to associate myself with such a group.

Reading through the comments on this article I've also seen several discussions of what Mormons do and do not believe about God. Are the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit one or three? Are Jesus and the devil brothers? Who cares??? This is a presidential race. Semantics of religious beliefs have no bearing on qualifications as president. For once I would just like to find a story that actually lays out the issues of what the candidates plan to do in office, and not focus on the political side show that doesn't matter.

Huckabee is also a Baptist and has positions that generally fit somewhere between those of Clinton and Carter, except on life issues, where he matches up with the Democratic leader in the Senate Harry Reid, another Mormon. Huckabee is generally left of Reid on most issues.

Comment: This is getting way off base of political discussion, but to answer your question about whether God left heaven and placed himself into a earthly shell. Jesus (the man) spirit was sent from heaven by God (thus the son of God) and made god's power/presence manifested upon the earth in earthly form. God remained in Heaven, this is to whom Jesus prayed to in the Garden of Gethsemane "when he asked that the cup be taken from him, but not "his", but "thine" will be done, and whom God said as Jesus was baptized, "Behold this is my beloved son, who I am well pleased". There..., no LDS rhetoric just the plain knowledge of a Baptist raised, who after 25 years converted to the LDS faith whose eye is but to the glory of God, and his perfect son Jesus the Christ. That said, I believe faith and religion is a "personal" choice and acts as a guides in matters of character, and morals. I have to admit that I do look at a person's faith, but not a certain christian church (Yes, I will vote only for someone of christian faith, that is important to me). That said I will probability still vote for Fred Thompson, after all i'm looking at a political candidate for President who shares my views of government, not a spiritual leader. Finally, either way you vote may God continue to bless this nation, the leaders, and it's people.

PROVIDED THE BEST ANSWERS. McCAIN ONLY ADVANTAGE IS FOREIGN POLICY WHERE HE DWAFS EVERY CANDIDIATE, REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRAT. I LIKE RON PAUL'S RESPONSE IN THE DEBATE. HE CLEARLY SHOWED THAT THE CONSTITUTION HAS BEEN ABUSED AND IGNORED.

Comment: HAHA, this website is great, The opening view is " Jesus and Satan brothers? do Morman's really teach this?", maybe you should bash Christians and not just us members of the church, and then read Genesis, it was a little amusing though

Comment: While all this mindless bantering goes on the only candidate with anything important to say ( Ron Paul) is totally ignored. If the biased news media let Ron Paul speak the other candidates would be exposed as being the bufoons they really are. Corporate lackeys with no concern for the American people. They represent the corporate greed that is killing this country not the American people. If you believe in freedom, liberty, the constitution and restoring the country that our forefathers promised us, vote for Ron Paul. Go to ronpaul2008.com to find out more. We need to take the country back from the corporations and the globalists that are killing America as we know it. Romney, McCain, Guilani, Clinton, Obama, Edwards and the rest will only lead us down the path of destruction. If we don't turn this country around, fifty years from now we'll all be speaking Spanish, there will be no middle class and America as we know it will be destroyed.

Comment: HAHA funny, the first think on the page " Satan and Jesus are brothers?", maybe you should just bash Christians and not just mormans

Comment: All you need to do is get a copy of the video "DNA vs The Book of Mormon." The Mormons or Latter-Day saints have a lot of issues in explaining their faith and where it is derived! Try www.lhvm.org!

Comment: DNA and the Bible will have many of the same issues. Remember - it is about faith, not about DNA. If you want science and the Bible to line up you will be sorely dissapointed. The same holds true with the Book of Mormon. I and many others can shread the Bible if you are looking for DNA and absence of contridictions. Faith is about believing in things you cannot see.

Comment: I pray that the debate we all saw Saturday is the last of its type. It's ok to debunk or disagree with your colleague, that???s the whole reason we have multiple individuals running for President. I implore the GOP, not to reduce themselves to the level of bickering as that they did on Saturday. It was almost like watching a male version of The View, just ridiculous. It???s safe to say that across the entire spectrum of candidates in both parties that they want what???s best for America. The best way to convince the American people that they are the best candidate for the job is by clearly stating and maintaining their respective positions on particular issues. There???s nothing wrong with correctly outlining the short comings of an idea or proposal of another colleague, but if the GOP continue to debate in the manner as they have Saturday then they???re going to have a hard time convincing America that any of them are the candidate of choice for our 44th President.

The Bible contradicts the Mormon reliance on multiple contradictory revelations. While the Mormon scriptures contradict each other and the Bible, the Bible never contradicts itself and the God of the Bible never contradicts Himself. Hebrews 1:1-3 tells us where our knowledge of God comes from:

God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

Any message that purports to be from God must agree with the message already brought by Jesus Christ in fulfillment of the Old Testament (Luke 24:27). Eternal life comes from the works and gifts of Jesus Christ, not from Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, or any other false Mormon prophet (John 20:31). Proverbs 30:5,6 warns those who try to add to God's Word, saying, "Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words lest He reprove you, and you be proved a liar."

Comment: First, it appears you haven't read the bible closely... second using bigotry to sway public opinion is repulsive. Third let's talk about the real issues of the campaign.
