Just for the record. The 14 'ethics' complaints raised against Huckabee were brought about by an Arkansas board that was completely appointed by Gov's Tucker and Clinton. The board itself is a sham and just a 'legal' sounding way for the democrats to attack Huckabee during his re-elections. All of the complaints came out shortly before elections, and not a single one of them went anywhere. Despite the fact that Democrats controlled the legislature there. It's hard to believe that Romney republicans would use something coming from 'Friends of Bill' as a way to attack Huckabee. Romney, here is a clue.. just because you spend 10million dollars saying something, doesn't mean it is true. (ask Iowans)

I just saw that Giuliani is rated #5 and Huckabee #6 in Judicial Watch's ???Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians??? for 2007. What does this mean for these candidates? For us if they got elected? I'm not so sure about these candidates. McCain and Romney seem to have the best ethics record and would have the best chance in beating the democratic nom. http://www.judicialwatch.org/judicial-watch-announces-list-washington-s-ten-most-wanted-corrupt-politicians-2007 5. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R-NY): Giuliani came under fire in late 2007 after it was discovered the former New York mayor???s office ???billed obscure city agencies for tens of thousands of dollars in security expenses amassed during the time when he was beginning an extramarital relationship with future wife Judith Nathan in the Hamptons?????? ABC News also reported that Giuliani provided Nathan with a police vehicle and a city driver at taxpayer expense. All of this news came on the heels of the federal indictment on corruption charges of Giuliani???s former Police Chief and business partner Bernard Kerik, who pleaded guilty in 2006 to accepting a $165,000 bribe in the form of renovations to his Bronx apartment from a construction company attempting to land city contracts.

    6. Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR): Governor Huckabee enjoyed a meteoric rise in the polls in December 2007, which prompted a more thorough review of his ethics record. According to The Associated Press: ???[Huckabee???s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor???s office.??? And what was Governor Huckabee???s response to these ethics allegations? Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down.

This has truly been fascinating, but not surprising in the least. Mormons are accustomed to it. But please, people, focus on the issues. They are what matter in a political debate. As someone mentioned earlier, we're not choosing a priest. When it comes to fixing the exonomy or the health care crisis, does a candidate's specific view of the Trinity really matter?? I would hope that all people would vote the issues, Mormons included. Voting for Romney just because he's Mormon is just as stupid and ignorant as voting against him for the same reason.

Wow. That was brutal. I have to admit, though, that it was almost fun to see Romney get back some of the venom he's been spewing all over the place with attack ads against everyone else. Had to laugh at the Huckabee "which one" line. That one had to hurt Romney. BUT - he really did ask for it. Sorry, Romney. I felt a brief moment of pity for you - then I remembered who started the fight and the pity was gone.

Tina... venom? Have you seen any of Romney's ads? They are far from venom. They state factual differences between Romney and Huckabee on certain policies. View the ads for yourself below.

I feel good every day.. Jus have a heavy heart when it comes to these millionaires trying to influence the people with money and lies.. Jus a the media does and they are controlled by the money.. All we get is stories not NEWS, Would be nice if jus one media group would choose to report to the people the true facts and get off spinning tales to make their points of view . If check probally Thompson has the best record of what he has stood for and against I understand the news has painted him as pro abortion when he really wanted it to be a moral issue and since u can't legislate morality was a cheap shot..
Learn more about Fred and then see who u would like to lead ur (our Country)... I am Christian, all religions have doctrines and they conflict at times with Christ likness.. Only one way to Heaven and that is clear HE is the way and the only to the everlasting life.. History HIS word and every thing science has tried to prove wrong has always proved the Word of GOD correct...

I will choose to discuss the political subject and leave any talk of religion out of this post. I have yet to decide who I am backing. However, looking at the history and credentials of Mr. Romney I must ask myself in what ways is it benefitting him to run for President. He is a very successful businessman and completed a successful 4 yr term as a governor of a highly democratic state. Why would a man of his stature and accomplishments put himself in the line of fire as he has. I am starting to see maybe this is a man who will not be influenced by special interest groups and a man that would be able to stand strong against the left. I am starting to like what he stands for and I see a man who out of all of them is doing so because he sincerely feels he can bring some true change and a new look at what how Washington works. I feel McCain is sincere in doing good for our country however, many times he has taken stances that are in the shadows of the left. Huckabee I don't believe is a true conservative seems nice and all but looking at history of leadership in Ark raised taxes that far exceeded any cuts he claims he made, and his immigration stance is way to scary for me. I like Thompson a lot but he just seems to be absent in the race and waited too long. Rudy, I have great respect for, but skirts real close to being a liberal/republican and I am not sure what kind of Judges he would appoint if given the chance. I definitely know that we are up against some real trouble on the left with all the help they receive from the main media. I just hope we all choose a candidate that will be able to battle with the Dems anddo it by the issues they are running on and that we don't get sidetracked by peoples race, religion, wealth, or any other rediculous issue that we lose sight of putting the best candidate on the ticket.

Romney has nothing to gain from running the White House other than headaches. He certainly doesn't need the money. He doesn't need the power -- he has enough money, connections, etc. to influence almost any issue that he would need to influence for his own benefit. I think he actually cares about America and wants to use his understanding of economics, business, government and service to people to make America stronger. While he is rich, I would point out that by virtue of his positions in the Mormon Church, he has been volunarily engaged in ministering to and counseling individuals of all walks of life. The church has no paid local clergy, so while running startup and large companies, saving the Olympics and serving as governor of Mass. wihout pay, he also served in his church. I think he is more in touch with ordinary people than McCain or Giuliani but just speaks in too much of a Harvard-educated boardroom fashion to seem like he is someone who connects with the lower class, like Huckabee, who is a creature of lower class America.

Romney's ad is what turned me off to him. I was a supporter of Romney until his negative ads came out. In one of his ads, he stated that he and Huckabee were Christians but he was better because of his record. That was fine and dandy but he didn't stop there. No, he stated that as president they should not let their faith interfere with their decisions. Now how can you say you are a Christian and not let it influence you. That is why I would vote for a Christian. We need one in the White House after Bush is gone. We need a man in there that prays every morniing and ask God to help him make the right choices that will bring glory to God and this country

        • Posted By: angelus1967 @ 01/07/2008 10:28:42 AM

That is the LAST thing this country needs!! We already have a man in the WH who says that god talks to him and helps him make decisions and look where THAT got us!!
We do not need someone who believs in a fairy tale, a great white-bearded creature in the sky. We do not need somone who prays to a myth and won't make decesions without consulting his fairy godfather in the sky!

Does anyone know what religion president Bush is? That way I will know in the future not to vote for another whatever Bush is and I cetainly can not vote for another Billary. The morals of their religion obvously need a little tinkering. I am sure that the other issues such as the roughly 7% of americans without health car or the stae our country is in dont really matter, so vote for Ron Paul who allows Brothell owners to indorse his campaign. Just so I don't sway anyones decision I am not a Mormon, however I think Mitt is the better candidate.

    • Posted By: NYC1973 @ 01/07/2008 8:36:00 PM

George W. Bush belongs to the United Methodist Church. Bill Clinton, like Jimmy Carter, is a Baptist. Huckabee is also a Baptist and has positions that generally fit somewhere between those of Clinton and Carter, except on life issues, where he matches up with the Democratic leader in the Senate Harry Reid, another Mormon. Huckabee is generally left of Reid on most issues.

  • Posted By: NDJim @ 01/06/2008 9:44:53 PM

I am getting frustrated with these "news" articles. I wasn't able to watch the debate, and I'm finding it nearly impossible to find any news articles that describe any of the issues discussed in the debate. Almost every article I've read has quoted Huckabee and McCain's "zingers" and tried as hard as they can to portray Romney as the negative, attacking, flip-flop candidate, but they can't actually discuss the issues.

Whenever I try to find information on what Huckabee stands for, it seems all I can find is that his god is better than everyone else's, so we should vote for him. It seems that worked in Iowa, as I saw he credited his victory to God. As someone who isn't a Baptist, that scares me. If he thinks God is putting him in office, how is that going to affect his policy making towards religions that are not his own once he's in office? And what is it, exactly, about his political positions that make him God's choice? What little I've found on his actual political experience makes him seem like the least qualified candidate for the job. Everyone seems so concerned about Romney's religion. Even if Romney's religion is a little weird, at least he???s not making it a political issue, and has made it clear that he won???t serve his religion in office.

I used to consider myself a Christian conservative, but I have seriously had to rethink that after seeing the Iowa caucus. I find it troubling that there are that many people that would vote for a candidate based solely on his religion. If they are so ignorant as to do so, I really don't want to associate myself with such a group.

Reading through the comments on this article I've also seen several discussions of what Mormons do and do not believe about God. Are the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit one or three? Are Jesus and the devil brothers? Who cares??? This is a presidential race. Semantics of religious beliefs have no bearing on qualifications as president. For once I would just like to find a story that actually lays out the issues of what the candidates plan to do in office, and not focus on the political side show that doesn't matter.

    • Posted By: christophercrob @ 01/07/2008 6:44:07 PM

Thank you! What do these candidates plan to do once they get in office? How good were they at their previous jobs? Let's keep church and state separate.

I am a Christian and beleive that Jesus was born of a virgin mother. Which GOD became flesh like you and I and suffer and JESUS died on the cross FOR ALL that beleive in HIM will have everlasting life. On the third day HE was risen from death and sits at the right hand of GOD. I can not wait till HIS return. Unitl then I will witness to the lost and praise my GOD. And support those in government just at it is written in the bible for us to do. But I will vote my faith which defines who I am in CHRIST. HUCKABEE all the way. And that is the TRUTH.

    • Posted By: choonzer @ 01/06/2008 7:38:16 PM

Is there anything about Huckbee's actual platform or positions that you're so fervent about, or just the fact that he was a Baptist minister?

      • Posted By: rise2hope @ 01/06/2008 7:57:18 PM

A persons belief defines who they are and what they believe in. GOD gives each and everyone of us a purpose. I could never vote for someone without first looking at their faith. Our country was founded on faith. One nation under GOD... It did not say gods but GOD and that is the truth.. and the answer to the question is yes I did get interested in what Huckabee had to say when I found out that he follows Jesus Christ. So far looking at both parties he seems to be the only one how not only talks the talk but walks the walk.

        • Posted By: angelus1967 @ 01/07/2008 3:26:58 PM

That one nation under god and in god we trust stuff was added in the mid-20th century by Congress in order to differentiate us from the godless commies. This nation was NOT founded on faith but that is an argument I will never win.
I can tell you this much though: god does not give me a purpose, I have no faith or belief in your wizard in the sky. You people who vote due to someone's religious beliefs are scary and basically a worthless, throw away vote. If you don't look at the issues and vote accordingly you should just stay home.

As a fellow Christian I believe that Jesus Christ was born of the virgin Mary - the only begotten son of the almighty God. I believe that Jesus atoned for the sins of the world, was crucified at Calvary, and died. I believe on the third day Jesus Christ rose from the dead and is seated at the right hand of God. Because of His infinite atonement that I can be forgiven through His grace, and that through his resurrection that I can conquer death and live with my Heavenly Father in the afterlife. Christ is my Savior, my redeemer, and only through Him can I return to live with God. I am a Christian of the Mormon religion, perhaps not embracing all of the same doctrines that you do, but at the core I know that we as children of the most high God do share the same Savior in Jesus Christ. I will vote not for my religion, but for whom I feel is the best person for America - that may or may not be Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee. Let's all pray together that the will of God will be done, and then go to the polls and vote for whom we feel the Spirit calls us to.

I can't believe what Republicans are doing to Mitt Romney. I've always thought we've had the better party by far over the Democrats, but now that I read how they all are attacking him, I greatly question my decision to belong to this party. What we should really be focusing on is not arguing amongst ourselves, but attacking the Democratic party, and discussing our tactics on how to better serve America. So far, I don't see any of these candidates making positive campaigns, just negative ones against their running mates.

    • Posted By: RonPaulRevolution @ 01/06/2008 5:56:32 PM

The reason you don't see those positive campaigns is because you are probably ignoring Ron Paul.

The Republican party has always been hostile toward Mormons; hence the reason why people are so baffled by the citizen's of Utah bragging about their state being Bush country! You state and your religion has been used by Bush to win and now that your people are no longer useful to the cause they have given your people the boot. Did you really think those blue blood WASPs republicans were going to include your people into their loop?

ABOUT ROMNEY (who DOESN'T change positions): in 1994, during his earlier, unsuccessful run for Massachusetts governor against Democrat Ted Kennedy, Romney projected himself as being committed to a pro-choice policy. Subsequently, in 2002, while running again for Massachusetts governor, Romney remained an ardent supporter of women's right to choose. But later Romney CHANGED his position.
Romney similarly reversed his reformist views with regard to gay rights. After declaring himself staunchly in support of equal rights for gays in 1994???a position he retained even in 2002???he suddenly changed his stance and declared marriage out of bounds for gay couples.
Another issue is federal funding for stem cell research. In 2005, Romney held a position that favored state sponsored embryonic stem cell research, saying, "I believe stem cell research is important for our state and for our nation." However, he subsequently shifted to a more conservative stance, and opposed funding for research involving embryonic stem cells.

So, do you want an idealogue who thinks they are always right, no matter what, or a leader who is willing to admit that they were wrong and pursue a better course in the future? No other candidate except Huckabee is as strong against gay rights and abortion as Romney, but at least Romney isn't going around making empty promises about doing away with the income tax. Huckabee even admits he won't be able to get the fair tax through Congress (he said so on the Shaun Hannity radio show last week.). He's counting on "the people" to pressure Congress. Well, if Huckabee can't do it, then what do we need him for? Romney is a proven financial sucess and CAN help fix our economy.

        foz1011,
its not that we don't want a leader who changes his position after becoming enlighten with new information or a vision because we do. Mitt Romney simple has done it too many times and some pretty opportunistic times. And then, to make matters worse, he begins to point fingers at other candidates and saying they are failing on some basic tenets of conservativism that he was failing on no more than a week prior to his conversion.

This is why people upchuck when ever Mitt claims yet another epiphany

The "Machine" "The Shadow Government", are the bigshots involved with: The "National Bank", "Federal Reserve", "IRS" (which is illegal, is one of their inventions) in other words they control the money, the same "Shadow Government" that Henry Jackson put in their place multiple years ago (I think he was the 7th Pres) and was able to balance the budget and save "We The People" because of it. They support NAFTA, "The Super Highway", "The North American Union", "New World Order", "and other stuff like "Open Borders" (they support the 3rd World Invasion from Mexico and elsewhere)", their "Globalists", where they are the rulers, instead of "The Constitution Of The United States"! The Constitution warns of such a takeover (forefathers were sharply aware of tyranny).
Ever wonder why your voting for the lessor of two evils? Ever wonder: "is this the only people that we have to choose from"? The "Shadow Government" controls both parties, hence, the lessor of two evils" is still evil. They get their way reguardless and "We The People" always lose piece by piece. They own the mainstream media (only like five people or five groups, organizations, billionaires) so they inform us what they want us to know. Stop bein' naive, their agenda is corrupt as hell! Their abolishing The United States as we know it, turning it into "The North American Union", like the "European Union". They control us, get it, no more "We The People"! You expect unbios truth from the mainstream media? Believe what ya want, I personally don't like being deceived!
Most, Demoncrats and Republicans are their puppets, tricksters and slickers and liars. Same old story, same old song and dance! The only thing that will change is the face!
Ron Paul is the only Republican that is not their puppet! Chances are "real slim" for him to be elected cause people are accustomed to bein' lied to and they accept it!
To deep for ya, I'll narrow it down. Their all "bums" except for Ron Paul!

We can debate until the end of time regarding religion, we can try to analyze what this or that prophet meant. We can take apart meaning of words that has been changed throughout history (ie, hebrew, greek, latin, english, etc...). Or, in our arrogance we can try to utilize our great intellect and or have biblical scolars decipher the mysteries of the bible, or the cryptic hidden messages between the verses. I know that the gospel is pure and simple, but unfortuately there is one continuing fact, people (past and present) either don't believe or don't want to believe the prophets, they've ridiculed them, spit on them, stoned them, and even when they were finally confronted by the Savior Jesus Christ, they would rather kill to than hear the truth and have to believe the word. When I was taking discussions with the missionaries they told me that I didn't have to take for granted what they taught me, that if I wanted to know for myself if the things i've hear and read were true, that I should find a quiet place, kneel down, and give simple but heartfelt and humble prayer. Then according to God's will, the Holy Ghost who testifies will provide an answer. Finally, if people would just live by 1st and 2nd great law given to us by God, "Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and all thy soul, and with all thy mind., and the second like unto it Love thy neighbor as thyself, On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. When all is said and done... Nuff said.

Okay so I live in Utah and we have winners like Orin Hatch who stated in the mid 1990's that all drug users should be locked up with the keys thrown away. Wow what can we guess about the Mormons from that?

  • Posted By: Mountainair @ 01/06/2008 5:15:29 PM

Why are you wasting time attacking the Mormons with all these phony posts.
All the local church leaders work for free.
How much has The Huckster collected from his congregations plate passing? Anyone know?
I don't think it is about money for Mr Romney. He is not running because he needs a job.
I think he wants to help America. All this talk about flip flopping is nonsense. A good leader is
able to take in all the information and make decisions based on the information.
Imagine leadership that can't do that. .
In case you can't see it our nation hangs by a thread.
We need someone who can think their way through
the problems and get to the solutions.
None of the other candidates seem that smart.(No offense intended)
Sure they have been around, or on the silver screen or passed the plate or whatever.
The only one that seems presidential to me is Mitt Romney.
After watching the debate last night it was rather clear to me. Like a pack of salivating wolves they
all attacked Mr Romney at once. This just shows that instinctively they all know he is the best canditate.
Wouldn't suprise me if they all end up voting for him.

Please notice the part in the above dissertation, 'nation hangs by a thread,' right out of mormon doctrine, 'The mormon church will save the nation when it hangs but by a thread.'

      • Posted By: bjrcls2001 @ 01/07/2008 1:19:39 AM

Ken ... help me understand the problem. Are you saying the nation will not be "hanging by a thread" or that the LDS church is somehow a threat because they believe they will save the nation if/when it happens? Assuming you mean the latter ... I'm not sure I see the threat. The church represents a large group of people who love this country and its constitution and are taught to uphold and be obedient to it. They also believe that some day everything this country and its constitution stands for will be in danger and they will save it. How is this a bad thing?

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and I try to treat everyone with respect. I am scared to have a Person like Huckabee in office who is disriminating against others religon. If he were a true Christian he would not be acting the way he does. I cannot support someone for President who is not for all the people!! Most Mormons are very hardworking, kind, and generous. We believe in Christ. When you believe in Christ you treat others no matter their religon as Christ would treat them. Mike Huckabee has proven to be a canidate who has discrimination in his heart for religons he doesnt like. Heaven help us if he gets elected and has to make hard foriegn affair choices or meet with those he doesnt like their religious choices! Please all of you out there who put Mormons down, look at the facts on www.lds.org. There you will find what we believe in and what we do. Thanks, Kim

Ha watch, Bryan DB will post a comment about this comment just because a Mormon wrote it. The freakin bigot.

      • Posted By: BryanDB @ 01/06/2008 5:07:25 PM

Thank you for the compliment.. I was going to let this one pass but since you requested a comment I will not disappoint you.. It is funny how you like to use the word bigot. Less we forget the Mormon's Church's history with Blacks and women. Not to mention it's reluctance to now officially condem it's own members practice on how they treat women. The fact of the matter is and no matter how many red herring's you try and throw into the issue the Mormon Church dictates doctrine to it's members regarding all phases of their life. This is fine for those who want this. I don't.. A true Mormon is affected by the Church's doctrine and CANNOT separate it from his Political belief's. Is Romney A True Mormon?

BryanDB ... if you mean what you say when you say "This is fine for those who want this" then why do you spend so much time and effort in blasting the LDS Church, its organization, its methods of teaching doctrine, and its members? If it really is fine for those who want it then let them have it. And let them preach it to everyone else who may want it.

        • Posted By: mr-red @ 01/06/2008 5:26:16 PM

You seem to like to use the word red herring, can you come up with anything else? Ha and i would like to hear your views on how Mormons treat women, please indulge me.

A mormon president would be disasterous for America. the next time you see an LDS missionary ask them to explain the tenet that: 'the mormon church will save the constitution when it hangs but by a thread' or baptism for the dead including jews who have repeatedly ask the mormon church to quit this practice as far as jews are concerned, or about the 3 tierd heaven system and will they have multiple wives in heaven? Ask them about their belief that the streets of Salt Lake City in the end times will run red with blood as they eviscerate all who do not where their garments. lastly, ask them about 6 foot tall white salamanders. There is so much more but why bother. They are the American equivalent of the Taliban.

You must be high. Anyone who has ever studied the "Mormon" faith would never stoop to the misinformation and blatant lies in your post, You should be ashamed of yourself. No I am not "Mormon" or LDS, I am a Doctor of Religious Studies. By slandering a religion you are increasing the hostility between different groups in this country and around the globe. By comparing them to the Taliban, you are either a complete fool or just plain stupid. I would leave it to you to determine which you are. Six foot Salamanders - Are you dropping Acid? Eviscerating people who don't wear garments, put the crack pipe down. Baptizing the dead, yep it is a practice of the Mormon faithful for thier own ancestors, better than believing that those who are not baptized are condemned to Hell.
Each faith has it's own tennants and doctrine, instead of slandering them with lies and half-truths. Study them by reading actual books of Mormon Doctrine and take a class on religious studies. Most importantly learn religious tolerance, that is after all a founding basis of the country.

It's people like you that went along with the Illinois governor of the 1850's to hunt down and kill the Mormon people because of their religion. It's people like you that stood behind Hitler as he slaughtered the Jews, once again because of their religion. You are so misinformed that it scares me. You are completely missing the facts and attacking a moral family man who would stand up for what is so missing in America today - God, Family, Moral Living. Stop attacking a man for his religion and start focusing on the facts. I feel so sorry for people like you.....do you belong to the KKK?

      • Posted By: Ken Hoyt @ 01/07/2008 12:47:18 AM

And how are your 'morals,' Lorri? Is pontificating without foundation a moral thing to do. Still waiting on the jello recipe.

Lorri, you make it so easy for Religious Zealots to look like idiots. YOU are so blinded by your Mormon handlers that you've lost sight of something bigger than GOD: a President puts his hand on the Bible and swears to uphold the Constitution, not the other way around. What this country is lacking is not God, Family and Moral living: we're missing politicians that will uphold and support the constitution. When all people of Faith in this country accept that fact that religion is subservant to the Constitution, we'll have a chance at becoming something more than a nation of hypocrits, bigots and economic imperilists.

        • Posted By: Lorri @ 01/06/2008 5:53:23 PM

Enter Your Comment: To Want A Change: I appreciate your comment and agree with most of it. I am not a religious zealot, but reading the things that people are saying about my religion, when it is obvious that they know NOTHING about it makes me want to defend it. Does that mean I'm a zealot? I think not. This country's constitution was built on "one nation under God"; yet there are those like yourself who would take God out of the equation. The majority of voters believe in some from of superior being. So when that President puts his hand on the bible and swears to uphold the Constitution of the United States, I want a man that believes in God and takes in the bigger picture of a righteous nation, under GOD! Oh, and by the way, you can leave out the name calling. Being passionate about what I believe does not make me an idiot. It seems you do not believe in a God......it would be funny if He/She chose not to believe in YOU!! God Bless America.....we need it so that we are not hypocrits, bigots and economic imerilists as you put it. Agree? I hope so.

Lorri...are you serious? You do realize it was the mormons that slaughtered 120 individuals in 1857, not the other way around don't you? You just lost what little credibility you previously possessed. One other area in which you are greatly misinformed...The constitution was not build on one nation under god. The phrase itself was an amendment to the pledge and wasn't even added until 1954. Stop believing everything you hear in your sacred temple.

Having utilized the LDS church Family History libraries many times and having a jewish family line, I know that In keeping with the belief allowing others to worship however and whatever they believe, the church has advised all the church members not to submit names of jews for baptism (for the dead) unless they are directly related to the individual.

Re: "A Mormon president would be disasterous for America"
Although somewhat negative, I found Mr. Hoyts comments particularly entertaining for a few reasons.
First, this religious pigeonholing is neither based on the information presented in the debate, nor on the general ability of any candidate to lead America to a great future.
Second, he says to "ask [an LDS missionary] to explain" certain tenets that are all, as he presents them, either misconstrued, exaggerated, or simply not true. If you wish to find out which are which, I would encourage you to do as he says and speak in with an LDS missionary. The odds are, however, that the majority of these young men who attempt to preach peace and self betterment through finding religion, they will be able to tell you relatively little about those of these fringe concepts that are true.
Third: "They are the American equivalent of the Taliban"? Mormons have been known throughout American history to be one of the most docile, tolerant relgious groups in its history, especially toward other religious groups or beliefs. Knowing their history of persecution might help explain why. In any case, to draw parallels between a militant islamic sect practicing guerilla warfare, and a family-oriented church that promotes morals, hard work, philanthropy, and good values in general, shows narrow vision and great prejudice, things our country could do without.
I believe that anyone who truly knows about the LDS and their values would be just as open to having an LDS president as they would a buddhist, an evangelist, or a presbyterian. Of course, you'd have to first look at the qualifications and facts that the candidates present, something that seems to have been overlooked here.

Ken Hoyt, Do you live in the dark ages of bigotry and misinformation? Anyone who has actually looked at LDS Doctrine can pick out every lie and slander you just put out. Yes "Mormons" believe in multiple levels of Heaven that can be attained by eternal progression. Yes they believe that families will be together in Heaven, Multiple wives in heaven - NO. Read up on the doctrine of Polygamy and its's purpose. You are confusing Tenants of Islam with the Christian tenants of Mormonism. Six foot salamanders?? What are you smoking? Eviscerating those that don't wear garments, you must be high. By the way I am not Mormon, however I do have a degree in religious studies, while earning it I took a number of classes on different "Christian" religions, as well as many others around the world. Only by the bigotry and lies and misinformation spread by people such as yourself will we continue to have the religious tensions that have brought us to where we are right now. Spencer Maschek Ph.D

    • Posted By: Ken Hoyt @ 01/07/2008 12:44:46 AM

Despite your 'classes' you have missed the finer doctrine that is at the heart and soul their very fabric. But since you are the serious student of religion, if you can find one thing I have said to be false I'll accept that an apologize whole heartedly. Your alluding to me being on drugs, well I can overlook a cheap shot by one educated beyond his intelligence.
