    pretty foolish
The Bible contradicts the Mormon reliance on multiple contradictory revelations. While the Mormon scriptures contradict each other and the Bible, the Bible never contradicts itself and the God of the Bible never contradicts Himself. Hebrews 1:1-3 tells us where our knowledge of God comes from:

God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

Any message that purports to be from God must agree with the message already brought by Jesus Christ in fulfillment of the Old Testament (Luke 24:27). Eternal life comes from the works and gifts of Jesus Christ, not from Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, or any other false Mormon prophet (John 20:31). Proverbs 30:5,6 warns those who try to add to God's Word, saying, "Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words lest He reprove you, and you be proved a liar."

Holy cow- Can a political race be about issues, or is it just about race, gender, or religion? To Bluegrass 101, I think you would do well to look at the history books about how the Mormon church has been the target of hate ever since it began- with early members tortured, raped, and murdered as they were chased from state to state, finally seeking respite in the desert of Utah. Early Mormon politicians like Reed Smoot were denied their seat in Congress. Since then, Mormons have served with distinction in both parties. Ezra Taft Benson, who would later become the President of the Church, served as the Sec of Agriculture. Sen Harry Reid, the Democrat Senate Majority leader, is also Mormon. Please, in the year 2008, hopefully we can look past race, gender, and religion to what matters- what these politicians have to offer on policy matters. We are in the middle of a war and a pending economic crisis. Now is not the time to pick a candidate because they go to the same church as us, or are the same skin color. Support Romney, Hillary, or whoever- I don't care. But do it because they have answers to help this Nation.

I thought I lived in America. I think what our Founding Fathers and the Colonists fought for is being forgotten. I intend to vote on the man (or woman) with the most integrety, the most honor, the most intelligence, not color, religious background, or where he is from. How small are we if that's our vote. We will never be great unless we accecpt people for what they believe. Mormans or Latter-Day Saints are great people. Look at them, read about them from the source. Go to LDS.Org and find out what they really believe. If more people lived the Gosple according to our Heavenly Father, what a wonderful world it would be.

This one is totally impartial and unbiased. May all creeds and religions abide by and obey ' the gosple (sic) gospel of our heavenly father.'

.....as they understand it, and according to the dictates of their own conscience. :-)

The Taliban have a pretty good idea of what would make a wonderful world as well.

Ken, radical Islam isn't much different than radical zealotry in most religions - LDS and Evangelicals included. If you allow radicals to run the show, you get a scary show. Romney isn't radical. Despite all your assertions, there are plenty of good Mormons who are moderates. What about you? Are you a moderate or a fanatic?

            • Posted By: Ken Hoyt @ 01/06/2008 6:35:05 PM

Fiscally conservative, socially moderate, internationally probably a little right of conservative

              • Posted By: choonzer @ 01/06/2008 6:38:36 PM

Interesting that you describe your own position in fiscal, social, and international terms. Virtually none of your posts have dealt with those issues, just on Mormon bashing.

I would be very happy if I heard Mitt Romney speak about the little girls that are in those Mormon cults and talk about ways he could free them. They are all living off the tax payers so lets get them out of there.

                  • Posted By: MedicMaria @ 01/06/2008 8:59:58 PM

you are very sick! The little girls are in your head and wacking away in secret spots. Go back to the dark ages or back to McCain's camp where the back-biters come from!

Hmmm i think you might be mixed up...where the heck did little girls and cults come from?!

                    • Posted By: Patrik08 @ 01/06/2008 7:18:08 PM

He is mixing up wacko polygamist groups with the LDS faith, and like many others, really doesn't get the distinction, nor want to learn the reality. Yes, many crazy groups are out there exploiting child brides and they claim to be the bearers of true, Mormon doctrine. Reality: the LDS Church banned polygamy in 1890, excommunicates those who practice or even preach it -- and yet in today's politically correct society, a Muslim man who brings his four wives with him from Saudi Arabia is never prosecuted or even questioned about his religious beliefs.

                  • Posted By: choonzer @ 01/06/2008 7:16:53 PM

Um, Romney has nothing to do with little girls living in cults anywhere. Presumably you're referring to the handful of small polygamist communities in the Western US. Is this a banner issue for any other candidate?

  • Posted By: sjgman @ 01/06/2008 8:55:24 PM

While all this mindless bantering goes on the only candidate with anything importantant to say ( Ron Paul) is totally ignored. If the biased news media gave more attention to Ron Paul all of these other bufoons would be seen for what they really are, corporate lackeys who don't care about the American people. They only want to get elected to further the agenda of corporate greed, globalization and the destruction of America as we know it. If you care about freedom, liberty, the constitution and restoring the country that our forefathers promised us, vote for Ron Paul.

Who cares? We all know that Mitt is clearly the best man for the job. He has integrity, intelligence, experience, and determination to get through all of the person attacks and rise above all the bickering. When people finally look past "is Jesus really God" and look at what Mitt stands for, such as illegal immigration, the Iraq war, taxes, health care, and education, Mitt Romney will come out on top and we will all benefit as Americans.

  • Posted By: bluegrass 101 @ 01/06/2008 8:45:15 PM

This episode of the ganging up on Morman Mitt should show the Mormans and any other minoritiy just how prejudiced the GOP really is. Now maybe you Mormans knows what it feels like. The GOP actually despise Blacks, Asians, and all those who disagree with there so called VALUES. I think you Mormans deserve all you get for supporting the screwballs on the Right.

What a miserable collection of political hacks on that Republican Stage last night - with One Notable Exception - Ron Paul. At no point did the collection of losers - Romney, McCain, Guiliani, Huckabee, and Thompson - address the key issue of the impact of failed policies so originated by the Bush Republican party - the United States will be driven down below ground level because our policies never were considered in terms of risk-possible outcome- and ultimate cost (direct and hidden).

It furhter amazes me how Republicans can so gleefully turn over their collective fates to a groupp ofpolitical leaders who don't give a dman for their needs. Just look at how Americans are working more and earning less (after adjustment for inflation), are unable to set aside money for health insurance because of the other goods in the collective basket are costing more and their income has flattened, their home values are falling in value, and infrastructure needs (education, roads and transportation, commerce, telecommunications, etc) are forgone in favor of throwing massive amounts of money towards "The War on Terrorism".

Republican middle class and lower class groups, do feel like a cheap whore? Used and treated like trash by your leadership who is content to only listen to the top 2% and large corporate interests who don't have any interest in your long term or that of your children or grandchildren. As i watched Romeny, Guiliani, Thompson, McCain, and Huckabee speak to the crowd, I did not see anyone withthe political courage to step up and tell it like it truyly is: The Bush Adminstration has been an anathema to the vitality of the American Middle Class and our long term econiimc vitality.

Stop deriding what Ron Paul has to say and take time to listen to what the man is saying. Americans have been poorly led and all of the sound bites by Mitt, Joihn, Mike, Fred, and Rudy are nothing more than a pack of lies.

People talk about Romney saying anything to get elected. Hillary ignored her husband getting sex in the white house just to keep focus on her dreams of being president/queen.

  • Posted By: Nonsmoker @ 01/06/2008 8:30:15 PM

After watching the Republican debate I came away with the impression that McCain and Huckabee had demonstrated a very mean spirited mind-set...very petty. I understand McCain has such a reputation. Would they be elected one would have pause to wonder from where their clear thinking would come. Both in previous interviews, when critized, are thin skinned and become defensive. Neither are people I would want to depend upon.

Romney worked wonders while governor, he got rid of decades of political hacks, kept taxes under control and couldn't be bought....We now have a new liberal governeor who in a year has raised taxes twice, sold out to special interest groups and has plans for more tax increases to pay for all his social programs. How we wish Romney to remained governor....

  • Posted By: Angry_American @ 01/06/2008 8:23:55 PM

The Republicans (with one exception - Ron Paul) provided a very clear message:

We don't have any new programs or policies to offer Americans. Look for the Repug Party to play the Fear Factor ("war on terrorism"), the setting of racial divides ("immigration reform" and punishment of the people who were abused by US economic policy - NAFTA, CONCAFTA, and WTO), the willingness to continually shift wealth from Middle and Lower economic classes to the top 2% of Americans vis-a-vis "tax policy reform"" all the time reminding them that social programs (education, health care, infrastructure upgrades, affordable college education, and ensuring social security solvency are "social entitlement programs", and willing to prioritze hefty investments into the Military-Defense-Congress Industrial Complex but not willing to to invest in American people.

Mitt Romney - ever the flip-flopper and phoney - was quick to jump on Ron Paul's assertions, and Rudy Guiliani - the one-trick pony of 9/11 - and John McCain - the new soulmate of Joseph Lieberman - refused to address the massive drain the Iraq War is causing on our nation's fiscal solvency, the deterioration of our currency (we print more money to keep us solvent, but more money requires higher interest rates, which drive up the cost of capital for EVERY AMERICAN whether they own a small business or are trying to secure a loan for a house. No, all we heard from this cast of political losers is that drumbeat of "War on Terrorism" and Islamic Jihad, but nary any mention of doing the task smart and levering resources to get the job don effectively and with less wasted money.

All of the repugs - except Ron Paul - has sold their collective soul to the large corporately owned machine. Americans, these candidates don't give a tinker's damn about your needs. Look for more empty rhetoric and wasted programs that only benefit their cronies and large well-heeled special interests.

Religion has absolutely nothing to do with politics. Who cares what religion any of the candidates are? What I want to know is who will be the best person to lead this country, who will make the correct decisions in all facets, and who will be honest in everything that he/she does? I don't care if you are black, asian, german, hispanic...I care who will LEAD the country on behalf of the people!

Just remember (to: turridu, who posted at 6:51:20 PM, today): any candidate who--when "called onto the carpet" for his mind-changing tendencies--"flip-flops and calls it an epiphany" is a bigger disingenuous liar than all of the others who will own up to it.
That Romney fellow is someone who cannot see his own lies, when they are staring right back at him, from the other side of the mirror: kind of like that "great-big, officious, pretentious one: that resounding rascal, Paul H. Dunn".

Ron Paul is the rebel candidate. I like him for that, he stands up for what he believes on every issue. The problem is I don't agree with his position on all issues, or I'd vote for him.

It is heartening to see so many comments in support of Mitt Romney in this comment section. I thought I was the only one who saw and was upset by the shameful behavior in last night???s debate. I am not Mormon, and a candidate???s religion has very little impact on my decision of who to vote for. I think it is a good to have a person of any good faith as a leader. I am hoping that Mitt Romney is the Republican nominee for President. He is extremely bright, accomplished, principled and energetic. When I hear his ideas and learn about his life, I am inspired ??? that is something I wish for America ??? to be inspired by a President again. I thought he excelled in the debate last night, despite the petty attacks of the others. (I too lost respect for several candidates.) I am VERY tired of hearing about how his personal wealth is financing his campaign. Since when did being successful and rich in America become such a bad thing? And, why are only some wealthy people chastised for it? The American Dream is to be successful in life! Furthermore, the fact that Romney is financing his campaign with his own money, rather than money from special interest groups or other sources indicates to me that he is independent-minded and honest. He is also honest enough to tell the public that he has the intellectual capacity to consider past decisions and evolve his thinking. Personally, I don???t want a rigid, dogmatic individual leading our nation during these increasingly complex and changing times. It is sad how these truly stellar aspects of his campaign are twisted. Good Luck Mitt Romney. I hope many more people start seeing clearly.

"Republican candidates have learned how to "talk the language." They know that Christians are basically compassionate and trusting people, and therefore prone to being gullible and easily manipulated. They know that Christians have short memories and are desperate to be accepted at the king's table (largely a result of the church-growth movement and mega-church mentality).
It is at this point that much blame should be cast at the feet of the leaders of the so-called Religious Right. They have proven themselves to be much more interested in enriching their "ministries" (and themselves in the process) than they are in standing uncompromisingly for the truth. The infatuation with power and success has made them weak and vulnerable.
As a result, George W. Bush and Karl Rove have made mincemeat out of the Religious Right. They have shown everyone that once you win the support of the Christian Right with rhetoric, you can get by with just about anything. Christians are horrible at holding Republicans accountable.
Hence, neocon Republicans such as Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Mike Huckabee, and even Rudy Giuliani are all currently receiving fractured support from the Christian Right. However, you can mark this down: the Christian Right (with few exceptions) will eventually coalesce around whoever wins the Republican nomination--no matter who it is. You see, it's all about political partisanship. Principles are only something we talk about during off-election years."
