People, People. The truth is out there. Watch the videos on YouTube (that never made it mainstream medis), read the articles, the books, watch all the documentaries (that never made it to mainstream theaters). Educate yourselves!! Bush and his inner circle had prior knowledge of 911. They had plans for Iraq long before 911. (Go to Project for a New American Century, read the declaration of intent from the 90's, look at the signatures at the bottom!! Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Bolton' etc) How much proof do you need? The motion for this war started during the first Bush's withdrawal. At least he had the sense to listen to the Intelligence experts. He publicly admitted it later - if the U.S. went all the way to Baghdad and removed Sadaam, Iraq would most likely would plunge from a Secular State (where Sadaam controlled the Islamic Religious fanatics and we could control Sadaam) to chaotic state where there would be power struggles until ultimately an Islamic State run by Religious Extremists with nothing but contempt for the U.S. I'm not making this up this information is recorded history. Mainstream media never mentions it though! People, we are in an unwinable war created by a small group of people (who have not been held accountable) who have no sons or daughters serving in the military (never did), who were either never in the military or avoided serving in combat. These same cowards have the gaul to sacrifice our military for their own gains ($$$$$).
I was in Ireland on 911, sitting in a pub watching everything unfold on TV. Twenty five minutes after the first plane hit a man sitting beside me said "I think if that was here we'd have at least one of our planes up even with the few we have. Where is the U.S. Airforce?" The U.S. Airforce that morning was under control of Dick Cheney hosting war games (first time in American history that a President or Vice President was in control and not the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This is fact that is not disputed! Cheney gave the order for NORAD to stand down. I could go on and on. Research it yourselves, it will blow your mind. It's not a Conspiracy theory it's fact - all recorded documents to back it up. Oh and then they say they confer with God before they make these decisions - my God preaches love of neighbor, humility, forgiveness and Reconcilliation. I'm a Christian. Who are they praying to? We need Dennis Kucinich as President. We need somebody who will reach out to nations and talk with leaders to come to a level playing field. We can't afford another President who will berate other nations needlessly while scheming a way to make money for their own circle of friends. The middle class and the poor are paying for this war, with their money and their sons and daughters.

Ginopi..... I usually don't go here... but your an idiot. One for blaming Cheney, two for blaming Bush, three for wanting Dennis Kusinich, four for sitting going along with your conspiracy theories, and five by thinking that we shouldn't be at war. Six for thinking you are not going to be at war for the at least the next 10 years, seven for never serving your country either in the Peace Corps, or military. And Eight for not getting involved in your local political party, and Nine for never traveling outside this country to see how the other 80% of the world live (canada doens't count - and neither does Porta Vilarta).

jazzbebop, you should look into the specifics of Ginopi's assertions (you could start with looking into the Project for a New American Century) before you start throwing around insults...otherwise YOU are the one who looks like an idiot. I remember the Gulf of Tonkin incident, and the lies that took MY generation to war unnecessarily, and with horrendous results (50,000 of my fellow servicemen killed, hundreds of thousands crippled for life, a quarter million or more Vietnamese and others dead, MILLIONS crippled, all for nothing; our opponents won the damn war, and NOW we are doing business with Vietnam..what was it for?). After the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, and Viet Nam, I have no difficulty at all believing that officials in our own government lied to us (again) and took us to war on the basis of those lies (again). Semper fi.

You really should try pulling your head out of that donkey's azz and take a look around once in awhile. Then get yourself some q-tips and clean all that donkey dung out of your ears.

Dennis Kookcinich as president.....rotflmao! I live in Cleveland where he bankrupted our city.........if he can do for our country, the same thing he did for Cleveland....somebody just shoot me now.

I think this post must have been written by Dennis himself.......since the reality is he is the only one that will probably vote for himself.....lol

ha ha ha ha. this post amuses me. why are you posting it here? it has nothing to do with this article and nobody cares what you were doing in Ireland, what you said to the guy next to you or what you think about 9/11. keep your conspiracy theories to yourself buddy, we've heard them all before.

  • Posted By: sjbrock80 @ 01/30/2008 5:02:31 PM

This story reminds me of the crap that Detroit news used to print every day about the murder rates in their city. It was never-ending and demoralizing to people to only hear about the negatives there.

Iraq has tons of positives right now and is very close to taking control back without outside help. Write an article on that.

No one ever talks about how the murder and violence rates in Iraq are far lower than most US cites. It's safer there than in the US.

    • Posted By: Iconoblaster @ 08/19/2008 5:09:56 PM

Iraq probably will, eventually, return to some sense of "normalcy". However, as evidence that the US invasion was moral, legal or wise, this is meaningless...and THAT is what apologists for the policy use it for. No future quiescence in Iraq will bring back to life the tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, who were slaughtered in the process of this unnecessary war, nor the millions displaced, the hundreds of thousands more crippled and maimed, nor the billions of dollars spent on military equipment blown up and burned, nor the additional billions spent on much higher prices for gas and oil around the world. We didn't have to fight this war at all, and we were persuaded to do by falsehoods. The world might have been better off without Saddam Hussein IF this could have been accomplished without dragging America's standing into the gutter, or without paying the atrocious price in blood and treasure that this cost us, just to get Iraq (but not the United States) back to about where it was before we invaded, albeit with a new set of corrupt thugs in charge.

For you Americans, you are blind to the rest of the world who do not share your self deception of the world and that makes 80% of the world who are against you. The USA is a predatory and overly aggressive force for evil. As susual, the USA spin machine have wonderful words that mean nothing, "awakening force" what is that. I have seen, the Japanese do it, the British did it and the Malaysians do it, this "local eyes and ears" is as old as the hills and the USA is painting it as a totally new concept that this "GENERAL WONDER" PRAETREOUS thougt it up all by himself. Hey you Americans I believe you kid yourselves too much.

The beheading of the enemies of the insurgency is just normal guerrilla tactic; what is the meaning of terrorism ? It means to creat fear to deter collaboration with the invaders; therefore why should it be wrong to behead your enemies if what you want to achieve is to deter collaboration with the US troops ? What would you say if your GIs collaborated with the insurgency to betray American movements ? Will you not say he is a traitor ? There is more reason for the local citizens to spy on the Americans than the other way around. In such a case you are a patriot if you betray the Americans. Try to picture yourself as an Iraqi and see what you would come out with relating co=operation with the Americans.

Chongyeeyap.... The Bush Administration is primarily to blame, don't afix a generalization to the U.S. populace. I could draw the same correlation between China and Tibet or China and Taiwan. Predatory!

    • Posted By: faminchin @ 01/08/2008 9:23:10 PM

You obviously know nothing about American History or what America stands for! If America wanted to "rule the world", they could have easily done so at the end of WW II! But world domination is not an American goal. It is however an Al Qaeda goal and they have openly stated so multiple times!

Americans doesn't behead their enemies. Americans don't bake 10 year old children in ovens. Americans don't blow up children with bombs in order to kill innocent civilians.

There is no way you can compare America with Al Qaeda! Al Qaeda is a group of cowards that hide behind women's skirts. Al Qaeda represents evil and repression, while America represents freedom and independence.

Iraqi's have seen this first hand, and that is why they have joined forces with America to hunt down these cowardly murderer's!

      • Posted By: okie_magic @ 01/09/2008 11:21:54 PM

World domination by Al Qaeda? I got a good laugh out of that one. How many Al Qaeda soldiers are there anyway, a few thousand, maybe ten thousand? And no navy or air force.....what part of the world do they dominate?

They can cause trouble in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, because there is chaos and a power vaccum, but that's about the extent of their military power.

        • Posted By: jazzbebop @ 01/19/2008 6:36:21 PM

Okie... as near as I can tell the can control your free markets. They spread fear into the general population of americans. I am assuming you were around after 9/11. The general population was freaked out, our markets did fall - which by the way, Al Qaeda made a killing on. "What part of the world do they dominate?" YOu really mean that? They have wreaked havoc in most of the middle east and Africa, the only reason you can't see it is because your fat butt is sitting in a recliner watching a football game. You won't figure out there is a problem for awhile, your denial is amazing, your lack of world events and education is typical; I would typify your views as tunnel vision.

        • Posted By: faminchin @ 01/10/2008 12:42:51 AM

And I suppose the power vacum and the chaos in NY was the reason they were able to kill 3000 American citizens on 9/11....right?

The problem with this whole thing is we have been laughing for too long. Bin Laden came out and declared war on the US, and we laughed saying what can a bunch of camel jockeys do to us........well....9/11 should have taught us a lesson. The longer we allow them to walk the face of earth, the more credibility they get and the stronger they get.

What your missing in all this is Bin Laden's stated goal is world domination. His stated plan is to incite a world war between christians and muslims. That is why he kills innoncent muslim civilians, and blames it on our CIA and the American Government. Idiots in our country buy right into it as well, claiming Bush had those planes flown into the towers, etc, etc.

So laugh if you want, but don't be surprised if your laugh gets interrupted one day and your given the choice of converting to Islam or dying!

Those who joined the CLC are opportunists - two headed snakes. They don't have any principle and just want money. They are willing to sell their mothers to continue living. They are only loyal to themselves. For many Iraqis they are traitors who served the US. They are the ones who will side with the insurgents if the situation is reversed. They are not to be trusted by anyone. In any encounter, the CLC should be killed first before killing the actual enemy.

  • Posted By: dominoe007 @ 01/07/2008 7:47:21 PM

i've been watching the actions of al qaeda and it looks to me that through brash actions such as their taunting of our navy and new methods in iraq that they have a new plan, they are bolder than before because who in their right mind would taunt our navy like that, clearly they want us to start something, the sad thing is we have already made them angry beyond belief, the moment we withdraw our troops the crap will hit the fan it's like holding down an angry badger as long as your hand is pressing down it's head your ok but the moment you remove your hand it will attack, thanks Bush for starting a war that no one can end

    • Posted By: okie_magic @ 01/09/2008 11:26:56 PM

Hey, FYI it was the Iranians who harrassed our navy, not Al Qaeda. The Iranians hate Al Qaeda and even offered to help the US before we went into Afghanistan. Of course Dubya turned them down, but that's another story.

      • Posted By: jazzbebop @ 01/19/2008 6:43:35 PM

The IRanians hate Al Qaeda? You ever see them making world statements in the media about AL Qaeda? No, they make them about us you loon.

      • Posted By: faminchin @ 01/10/2008 12:56:36 AM

FYI for you....it's Iran that supplies the explosives that have killed the majority of our troops in Iraq. It is also Iran that has allowed some key Al Qaeda figures to hide out in the northern regions of their country. If you really believe Iran is willing to help the US, your only fooling yourself! Iran is just waiting for an opportunity to take the US down!

  • Posted By: faminchin @ 01/08/2008 9:13:56 PM

"grim new strategy" You have got to be kidding me?

Where is the article about Al Qaeda baking 10 year old children in ovens and serving them up to their parents? True Story!!

It's these and other tactics Al Qaeda has been using that have lead to these CLC's forming in the first place.

If our media and Democrats would stop trying to humanize these demons and report the facts of what they stand for and what they do, start telling people the truth about what their goals are......then maybe most people would wake up to the reality of why we are in the middle east in the first place! These radical's are not human, they are sub-human. They are cowards that hide behind women and children. They are murderers that kill innoncence in the name of Islam! Stop trying to make them seem human! No human could possible committ the acts these people do! They are evil demons that have risen straight out of Hell! They are the Devil's children and are doing the Devil's bidding!

    • Posted By: William.Demuth @ 01/09/2008 8:55:51 AM

While I am no fan of Muslim extremists, I would offer an observation that they are as human as we are.

If we permit ourselves the luxury of believing our enemies are sub human, then we are sliding down the same path as the pre Nazi Germans.

I have recently begun hearing well educated and informed people discuss nuclear and biological options as a viable alternative if we find ourselves drawn into an escalating conflict with Syria and Iran. Calculated and concise discussions of dead and injured in numbers to high to fathom.

Frankly, this scars the crap out of me! Please be extremely careful with the inferior sub human religious rhetoric. After all, history has taught us where this can lead!

      • Posted By: faminchin @ 01/10/2008 12:52:02 AM

I can't believe that normal, reasonable human beings place bombs on children and women and blow them up. I find it difficult to believe that a human being can take a sword and behead another human being. I believe these to be sub-human actions!

It sicken's me to see these cowardly murderers that hide behind women's skirts given any credibility at all! They deserve the same fate they have dealt to others over the past 20-30 years. If we are going to defeat them, we have to kill them!

Believe me when I tell you it pains me to say these things, but after three trips to Iraq and seeing this enemy first hand, I've come to understand a bit more about them than most Americans do. Our media hides their actions. They don't show the population the things these cowards do. If America was treated to a first hand look at the trail of destruction they leave behind, I have to believe the majority would be willing to do what ever it takes to hunt them down and kill them like the dogs they are!

Did you know that Al Qaeda baked 10 year old children in a oven and served them up to their parents to strike fear into them? This is a true story....and I have yet to see a single story written about it. It's well known in Iraq, but things like this are kept from Americans for some reason? The things these animals have done in Iraq are the reason Iraqi's have turned against them and started working with the US.

        • Posted By: William.Demuth @ 01/10/2008 9:56:50 AM

Do not misunderstand me. I do not in any way condone their behavior, but I do understand it. Actions like theirs are common in a historical perspective, and have existed in every war for the past two thousand years.

My concern was not for them, but for us as a nation. When we as a culture, or even as individuals, choose to end the lives of our enemies, we must individually and collectively believe their is moral justification. We can make those judgments on a case by case basis and maintain out humanity, but when we begin judging whole races or tribes or religions by the actions of the few, we then subconsciously move in the direction of genocide. In effect, we become them.

In Vietnam many felt we should "kill them all and let God sort them out". Luckily America saw the madness and prevented Nixon from doing just that!

While I believe we should, and ultimatley will win this conflict, I just hope we don't lose our humanity in the process. The loss of American values is more of a victory than we should be willing to let them, or any other enemy have.

          • Posted By: jazzbebop @ 01/19/2008 6:30:50 PM

The problem Demuth is that while our civilization moves forward and we become more and more concerned about the rights of all, and virtually have every luxury we desire or think we deserve - only ticks off the extremists more and more. It is not about our values, it is about theirs. The only way such values and ideals will change is by furthering the cause of freedom - world wide. So, yes, there is moral justification to end the lives of those who teach hatred and violence in the form of religious bigotry. WHich currnently, extremist muslims, hold center stage. The desire neither the rights and freedoms of christians, buddhists, or muslims - unless they prescribe to their interpretations. We call that dictatorship, supremacy, ruthless.... we call it Hitler, Ill, Stalin, Lenin..... Al Quacko and every other extremist group.

So, you understand their behanvior? You can see inside the mind of a madman? THe only option with Al Quaeda or the Taliban is either inihalation, or they choose to change. I don't even think we should house them at Gitmo; I think we get what info we can out of them, and if they are willing to work with us - we assist in reforming. If not, we execute. SOunds harsh - but that is what they would do to you. And, if they choose not to change - you going to house them and pay for it for the next 40 years because you think you are being civil? IT is better for one to die than a group suffer for their selfish, unholy, treacherous, cruel treatment to others. SO

  • Posted By: faminchin @ 01/12/2008 12:03:51 PM

I want to make it clear, I am not talking about Muslims in general. Heck I believe it should be Muslims leading the charge against these cowards, since it is Islam that is getting the black eye because of their actions.

I am talking about the extremist and those who support them. I am talking about hunting down and killing the cowardly murderers that hide behind women and children while waving the Quran as justification for their killing of innonence. The cowards that lie and deceive Muslim youth into sucide and enternal damnation with the promise of 72 virgins. These are the people we should destroy, and it should be Muslim nations leading the way, but since they don't seem to be able to do the job, it's up to the US to do it for them!

Don't waste much of your time trying to understand our enemies actions or justify their cause, because there is no logic involved! Just a group of blood thirsty cowards deceiving Muslim youths into dying for their cause, while they hide behind women's skirts!

  • Posted By: faminchin @ 01/12/2008 11:53:55 AM

William.Demuth....you say you "understand our enemies actions"......do you have any understanding for our troops that see these murderous actions first hand? Can you understand how our troops feel after seeing these murderous acts? Can you understand why they volunteer to go back time after time to try and kill these cowardly murderers that hide behind women and children?

And since you "understand" their actions, help me to understand how any human could possibly bake 10 year old children in an oven and serve them to their parents with fruit stuffed in their mouth? Help me to understand how they can take a sword and behead another individual because they disagree with their religious beliefs?

  • Posted By: James Minter @ 01/09/2008 12:41:08 PM

Is the troop surge working? The answer is yes if you look at the level of violence that is going down. But, why is the troop surge working? That is THE question to answer. It may be working because we now have enough U.S. trrops on the ground. But, our enemies know that too. To the point, is the troop surge working primarily because our enemies are laying low until we leave?

  • Posted By: p13Diablo @ 01/08/2008 3:22:24 PM

Doesn't seem like new news. is this the first Iraqi beheading in the middle east during our military operation?? Is Al-Qaeda finally tired of the U.S. ? From what I gather, this dude must be new. As it turns out, they are even shooting at our soldiers! The nerve!! They must think we are only interested in oil.

really newsweek, al qaeda beheading and intimidating Iraqi's who don't support their cause is nothing new to this conflict. dont try to act like this is 'breaking news' just because it is happening more to the CLCs. these so called 'new terror tactics' have been happening since the beginning of the war. dumbest article ever.

Now we know the real truth about the so called troop surge and their 'success' in Iraq. There is much more to it than meets the eye, and the ear. As this article clearly explains, its about economics in a large parte. US commanders now pay militias to turn against their former insurgent comrades. Part of it is also because these people are simply exhausted from the fighting and want to regain some level of normalcy in their lives. Now retaliation is in order in the form of beheadings, etc. When will the next wave of violence erupt? It is like a red ants' nest. At some point someone is going to step on it and get ants (violence) scattering everywhere. This 'calm' is a false sense of security that will require more and more billions of American money to keep it going. Let's not fool ourselves.

As tragic as it might sound or be...we have the same problem on our streets daily. Bloods, Crips and other gangs execute anybody that is against their cause or moves into their territory...whhooooo.
Before we say Iraq is getting worse let's look into our own boaders.....their gang is just called Al Qaeda, but all gangs use intimidation and violence to gain respect or to broadcast their beliefs.
Gangs are a way of life anywhere. So is anyone stopping the Bloods or Crips or Los Lobos or KKK? NOT!

  • Posted By: Fireman Joe @ 01/07/2008 10:13:10 PM

Ok, so the enemy is fighting back. So what? The point is is that the media will always say "Watch out!" However, in this day and age we can implicitly know what the truth about 911 is. Do we need evidence? No. There is such a thing as Photo Shop. Oh, and has this guy never herd of the phrase "Don't believe everything you hear on the internet."???? This guy probably has several Nigeria schemes cooked up trying to make it rich. We now know that the troops DIDN'T HAVE EVERYTHING THAT THEY NEEDED. So what was the point of going into a war under gunned and undermanned? Just take a look at the numbers of your local gas station. We DID get fooled again. Hopefully someone in this country is paying attention. I think we ought to have a constitutional amendment to make sure we have incontrovertible proof before something like this gets sucker punched on us again. Pisses me off.

What makes some people think that the whole world is against the U.S? The world could be in a disagreement over U.S policies, but it is not against America. I think people get the impression that everyone hates america because the media selectively reports only the minor instances where hateful gestures or actions are made against the U.S. What happened to all the gestures of goodwill made by America through its yearly donations worth billions of dollars to many poor countries? Did they all go to waste? However, it is not fair to blame it all on the media. After all, it consists of organizations run by people, and people, unfortunately, are prone to bias towards or against something. Whatever message anyone tries to spread as the genuine truth, it is most likely to be a lie or only a portion of the truth. This applies to some of the bizarre and extreme comments found here. For example, Chongyeeyap says that beheadings of innocent civilians and suicide bombings in Iraq are just a form of guerrilla tactics, therefore they are justifiable. Since these victims of terrorist acts did not believe in the supposed messages of truth preached by Al Qaeda they deserve to die? Should these innocent people all die because they began to be fed up with living in fear and under the tyranny of a few vengeful lunatics and decided to fight against al qaeda, or any terrorist? If that is the case, whoever posted the comment bashing everyone in America as blind and ignorant should die right this moment because he is against my views. Whoever said that terrorism and selective targeting of civilians as means to win a war is justified and has a clear conscience afterwards is just an idiot. I'm really fed up with people who try to shove what they claim is right down everyone's throat. At the end of the day, it is up to the individual to decide and choose his or her own path. It's really discouraging to read some of these ridiculously one sided comments. God help those people because I know that I can't.

if you have noticed in the news they seem to be getting brave again, approaching our navy vessels with threats, daring us to make a move, i have to give our navy kudos for standing firm and not firing first it can't be easy. but the last time it seemed we were recieving threats like this they were planning something so it makes me wonder what they have in the works not to mention the fact that as our troops push they hide and then push back so you know the moment we pull out the *** is going to hit the fan, it's too late the damage is done and they are planning something it's like holding down an angry badger, your fine as long as your hand is pressing down on it's head but you know the moment you let go it will bite you....thanks Bush for starting a war no one can finish

Does this reporter work for Al Qaeda? They describe the terrorists in fearsome terms and then portray the CSC's as other than patriots or heroes. Exactly the way Osama likes his news.
These terrorists are cowards and their names should never see print without being described as such; The coward Osama, the cowardly Al Qaeda group. They kill innocents, they encourage their children to commit suicide against other innocents to further their hateful cause.
Anyone who opposed them should be hailed as a hero.

  • Posted By: we deserve better reporting @ 01/07/2008 7:14:50 PM

A magazine like Newsweek and reporters like this are some of Al Quada's best tools. They write the story in a manner to scare those who oppose Al Quada and then describe the people who standup against the terrorists as "not all driven by patriotism or even antipathy toward Al Qaeda. A better spin for the terrorists couldn't be written by Osama himself. How can you describe these people, the CSCs, as anything other than heroes. These people stand up to Al Quada at there own peril. They know their lives are at stake. And 300 dollars is not sufficient compensation!
