Hillary has made change and will continue to make change. It saddens me that Hillary has been subject to all the negativity that surrounds the Bush Administration. She has pulled through despite the critics and Republicans for quite some time, yet she is still being considered as part of the status quo. What will Obama do besides talk about change?? What has he done as a senator to prove he can do the job. Yes he is likeable and yes he says the things in the right way, but generation X needs to look into the candidates work in order see who can lead this country. Talking about and being about are two different things. Certain republican networks are routing for Obama. Why is that? This should raise a red flag! This is a set up by the republicans to kick Hillary out of the race!!! Why? Because they know Obama will not be able to specifically say what he can do to "change" this country. Their is a serious mess that needs to be cleaned up and we need someone who knows how to get it done, not just wants to get it done. What are Obama's plan and exactly how will he implement them for "CHANGE"?? Thanks peers in Iowa and soon New Hampshire for voting based on likeability and rhetoric instead of facts and reality. I see Hillary giving up, but we need her to stay strong. GO HILLARY GO!!!

And the Oscar for best actress goes to - Hillary Clinton for her engaging performance in Political Prowess. Emotions can be used as a ???strength??? to gain the support of those in search of a leader with "feelings" or viewed as a weakness by others. It would be refreshing to see the detailed plans of how each candidate is "going to make a change", the impact of the plan on the U.S. economics, the associated risks of the plan, the long-term benefits and the road map of how the plan will be implemented. But hey, who wants details when the country is begging for emotion and feelings.

I am excited that Hilary Clinton is showing emotion when she speaks about the United States , It is not because she is a " woman" it is because she truly cares about this nation . I know that is a surprise for most that a Politian can truly care about the issues we are facing. It is refreshing to have a Politian care , rather then being a "Talking Head". I commend Hilary Clinton.

Thanks for the objective article. I really think it's been ridiculous how the moment was played up. I read about it first, and then watched it--and the actual video was nothing like the sensationalistic write-ups. I didn't see one tear, and she didn't come even close to crying. It was an appropriate answer for the question asked. I don't support Clinton, but I think it's unfair and silly for the media to have made such a huge deal of it.

  • Posted By: hrob27 @ 01/08/2008 6:16:25 AM

The tears are real, but not for the reasons Hillary claims. She thought that the nomination was hers and now she finds herself actually having to work for it. She still does not understand that she cannot slam Obama for his lack of experience while never owning up to her vote to invade Iraq knowing full well that it was a detour to stopping Osama bin Laden. She cannot have her cake and eat it too. Besides, she is trying to win over women voters with emotions because Obama trumped her card. The Clinton camp has been trying to take away the black vote from Obama, and in response Obama got Oprah on his side, which swung the women vote and the black vote in his favor in one fell swoop. That's a hell of a move for a guy with no experience in politics. The truth is that Clinton represents the old, Obama the new. There is a new generation that is well educated and has been held back for a long time by old farts who kept claiming that we were "inexperienced." It is time for Generation X to have our say. The misrule of the baby boomers is coming to an end, and not a short enough reign it was.

Everyone keeps throwing this decision to vote for the war on Iraq back in peoples faces running for office. NOBODY seemes to be talking about the fact that the facts presented to them by the current administration were so distorted and in some cases fabricated and forced through given the 911 hype machine that a lot of intelligent public officials were forced to make a choice based on the facts they were given.

What would have happened if they all had just voted 'present' until they could do their own research and information gathering and make an educated decision based on real facts like they do on sooo many other issues brought before them.

So, having a slight emotional breakdown is a good thing? Showing your "true" self? Being real? If nothing else, that presidential nominee all but sealed her fate with getting my vote. If this presidential hopeful cannot keep her composure during a presidential campaign in which things' just are not going her way; how would I trust her with leading this country in the world today. She showed me that its her way or the highway. That she is so sure that shes the right person for the job that shes on the verge of pouting over her soon to be inevitable loss. That sounds alot like someone else I know of; the current U.S. president. Change? I think not. Also, isnt it funny that the only people that seemed to be taken by her "emotional" breakdown...are women?

    • Posted By: tyllek @ 01/08/2008 8:58:01 AM

Shedding tears, being emotional does NOT mean you're weak. Women and men are different. Men have been told for years that it's wrong to cry and show emotion. Well it's not. It shows that you're human. Humans get tired and worn out and lose their composure. Women tend to shed tears when they're upset, men tend to yell. And just because she lost her composure during a campaign that's been ongoing for months doesn't mean that she's a cry baby and can't handle pressure. Grow up. BTW, yes I'm a woman. I'm also a Democrat and from NY. Hearing her words and her display of emotion made me think that she truly cares about this country and believes that she's the best person for the job. It made her more human to me, less of a ball busting carpet bagger. All that aside I'm still voting for Obama because I believe he's the best person for the job at this moment in time. That's what you should base your vote on, not the candidate's sex or brief display of emotion.

Well in the world of diplomacy and politics, you dont show your tell. You dont let em know that your worried or scared. You dont show fear. She showed it and though it may be a human trait, if you want to be the president of the united states you do not show weakness. You say it doesnt matter because thats what women do. Women cry and men yell. Think about what you said with that statement and you'll realize that you just set your sex back another 20 years.

Hillary is crying because she is finally beginning to see her dream of becoming the first female president slowly slip away. I don't believe for a moment she was crying because she is cares so much about the future of this country. Hillary is running for extremely selfish reasons and I'm glad the American public is finally beginning to see her for what she really is. We can not move this country into the future by having the same two families occupy the White House for nearly 2 decades. Go Obama!!!

    • Posted By: enchantryst @ 01/07/2008 11:12:14 PM

Oh yes... Go Obama!!! And when the going gets tough... you can fly on down to Columbia and snort a line of cocaine! Woohoo!

      • Posted By: adam in iowa city @ 01/08/2008 11:09:25 AM

Bush is the one who had a history of cocaine and alcohol abuse...

    • Posted By: enchantryst @ 01/07/2008 11:20:06 PM

Go Obama! and go and go.... and when it gets really rough and you can't go anymore just whip out a line of cocaine and snooooooooort away... because, when the going gets tough, the tough get going! Party like a ROCKSTAR!

You don't have to be president to make a difference. We need a leader and we need strength. We need someone who isn't going to ball up when times are tough and hold their head high and accept that the facts are determined by the actions and words before them. Emotion is a weakness Tyllek and it is DEFINATELY not a strength so you need to go another direction with that.

"Until we stop telling little boys to "man-up" and not allow them to be human we'll never advance as a society."

Advancing as a society has soo many countless variables that you can't even sit here and think that it is determined by telling a boy not to "man-up". BTW.. "Manning-up" means take responsibility for your actions and step up to the plate when things get tough. I guess you can continue to be insane, or you can just accept the fact that emotion and confidence do not run parallel in the human psyche.

And.. please tell me when we have "ADVANCED". I'm sure there will be a defining moment where everyone signs a piece of paper agreeing to the advanced state of society. Of course this agreement letter's distribution to the public will be paid for by our tax dollars and will require return postage paid by you.

I certainly understand how the political game works and how 'event's like this can be spun, read into, etc as something else for the appropriate opponents use. HOWEVER, if you allow yourself and your personal preferences to step aside and look at situations from a clear and neutral point of view you can see whether something is sincere or not.

In this case it seemed obvious to me that the only thing Hillary was expressing with her emotion was her desire to see change in the way things are going in this country, which is straight into the crapper. You can read whatever else you want to into it, but that is all I say from a neutral point of view.

If you take emotion away from a candidates profile you better be prepared to take away passion and all the other emotions that are considered strong too, which would leave us with a bunch of statues and a list of their views and proposals sculpted into their forehead come election day.

Call me crazy, and I know you will, but I can't help but wonder, if we elect a black person as president, will that take away the argument of all the blacks that are claiming they can't get anywhere simply because they're black? Of course, that's a dangerous game. For one thing, Obama is a radical islamist (I don't care what you say, visit his church's website).

WOW! I am blown away by the amount of ill-informed, angry nonsense on this forum. Hillary is experienced because she has been in the Senate. And how exactly is she a socialist? How do YOU define the term so that she is a socialist? These sorts of forums make me feel embarrassed about America because so few people read and so many get their "information" and "news" from television and hate radio.

Socailism is raising taxes on the middle class to fund the poor who most likely could help themselves (except the elderly, the mentally, terminally, and chronically ill) if socail programs didn't keep them down. Socilism is raising gas prices to 8 bucks a gallon, or tax smoking or anything else someone does not appove of you doing to pay for SOCIAL PROGRAMS.. you have heard of welfare?

Socailism is taking the rights of the majority and limiting them so the minority does not feel left out.. I.e.. atheists, immigrants who come here willingly, illegal or legal who refuse to blend into this society and instead want to keep their own language, their own forms of government, and learning the history of the U.S. perfering to stick with their old ways.

Socailism allows the minority to dictate what the majority should do.. keeping their religon and customs is fine, but the Christain religon and U.S. customs should be banned because of seperation of church and stae which is not in the constitution nor the bill of rights. In short Socailism is a way of rich dems to tax your paycheck by fifty percent or higher to pay for social programs which in turn grows government, and controls how you live you life day to day. What car you can afford, what house or nieghborhood you can buy, how much savings you have, how rich you can get, what healthcare you can get..

wha? you think socalized medicine is better.. don't tell me that you fell for that michael more thing? Bi tching about waiting five hours in the e.r.... try waiting two or three weeks to get in a hospital for surgery in which the comforts you expect are not offered. How about sharing a room with eight other people? how about the fact that people who can afford health insurance in a socialist country like england get to go to better hospitals and have better medical care than the rest of the poor schmoes. If socailist healthcare is so good and free.. why are people leaving Mexico in droves when they are socialist and have universal healthcare to come here?

To repeat what I stated above.. why do socailist countries like england and canada to a lesser extent tax their gasoilne up to eight dollars (pounds) a gallon to pay for the taxes for socail programs. Why do the governemnet in these countries take over the radio and television stations and charge the citizens a tax on radio and t.v's and radios. Why do the enact laws to put little boxes in cars that tell how many miles the citizens drive so they can tax that too. (like in England) Money and power and controll of citizens like you and me, my friend..and you thought capatilism is bad. Wait till they start taking 60 percent of your paycheck away to pay for jose and his seven childrens dental work.. or Bob and dougs four childrens glasses and cell phones.

      • Posted By: adam in iowa city @ 01/08/2008 11:05:45 AM

You might want to put one of those "little boxes" on your tax payments to see how much of it goes to fund this disastrous and pointless war of diversion in Iraq, and how much is going to subsidize corporations.

        Don't believe the hype.

  • Posted By: krentenweger @ 01/08/2008 11:03:20 AM

How about the emotions of the other candidates? A tear shows emotion openly but what to think about hidden emotions, leading to act wrongly, like bombing people because you don't take resistance against oppression any longer? jany

As a women, I think we should have equality but, I do not think women are capable of running our country. not now or ever no matter how powerful they are. We are too emotional. Is that a bad thing? NO. We were created that way for a reason and for that reason that is why men were put in charge of our nation. They are capable of making decisions that are for the good of all no matter how hard of a decision it is like going to war. There will be life lost it is war. As a women I don't want to make those decisions I feel that we can't make a decision like that without being too emotional. Hillary you want this for a personal reason; CONTROL. you don't want it for the good of the nation, look at your proposals. Go BACK HOME AND DO WHAT WOMEN ARE SUPOSSED TO DO, TAKE CARE OF YOUR FAMILY!!

    • Posted By: Clorisa @ 01/07/2008 5:13:58 PM

Ok, I do believe some of what you are saying but women were not made for staying home and taking care of thier family. We are people and we deserve every right to be anything we want. I do not feel we are correctly represented by H.C., due to her lack of respect when Bill cheated on her, her secrets with Water Gate. I do feel our country can be ran by a woman, just not by H.C.

      • Posted By: Styna @ 01/07/2008 7:13:46 PM

HER lack of respect when Bill cheated on HER??? And what does that have to do with her candidacy?

        sigh.......

        • Posted By: Clorisa @ 01/07/2008 11:05:43 PM

How can I respect her if she can't even respect herself. What does that teach our daughters, its ok if your husband cheats on you as long as he apologizes, no respect for herself to stay with him, no respect as a President.

          • Posted By: Styna @ 01/08/2008 11:02:49 AM

And you had a conversation with her? You know how she handled it? You only saw what the media showed us. That aspect of their lives is none of our business and has nothing to do with her running for president. True, it is not okay to cheat on anyone. But we can not judge how she decides to handle it.

        • Posted By: Clorisa @ 01/07/2008 11:05:42 PM

Are you kidding? You think woman should have equality but can't runt he nation? How hypocritical!
Hillary Clinton has more experience, knows the White House and what the job entails, has dealt with more heads of state and is more knowledgable than Obama. People are nuts if they can't see that Hillary really does want whats best for this country and it has nothing to do with being a woman or a man. Gender has nothing to do with it. She's jsut the best candidate. I presonally will not vote for a muslim for president. I'm sorry but I'll vote Republican before I do that. I have nothing against the religion, but too many people in this country will not follow Obama if he does win. I think we're in trouble if he does.

      • Posted By: oklavoter @ 01/07/2008 5:50:11 PM

I didn't say that I was voting for Obama. I will not vote for Hillary. She is not capable of running our country. Look what Bill Clinton got us into. I don't want 4 more years of that!

        • Posted By: Styna @ 01/07/2008 6:36:33 PM

What did Bill Clinton get us in to?

      • Posted By: hillaclint @ 01/07/2008 6:26:07 PM

Go Lisa go, I am all the way with you AND about a MUSLIM FOR PRESIDENT.

    • Posted By: Styna @ 01/07/2008 6:13:06 PM

Wow. Really? Wow. I am completely sickened to learn that this type of thinking still exists. I guess I knew it still did, but to actually see it typed out on my screen like that from another woman makes me so sad. Who told you that was the way it had to be? Women were created what way for what reason??? I'm a woman with a college degree who has a great job and supports herself. But then....I guess that's how I was created....or, I don't know, "raised" by my parents who told me repeatedly that I could do whatever I set out to do. Please don't belittle women and make generalized assumptions because a female candidate shed some tears. In fact, I have even more respect for Sen. Clinton after seeing her human side. Shows compassion. Can't say that about our president now.

  • Posted By: Bob B @ 01/08/2008 11:00:05 AM

The question is, how will she react after becoming president? If a vote on a bill does not go her way, tears? If congress opposes her on an issue she really wants, tears? What if she gets boo'd in another country? What about a really dangerous crisis? I'm sorry, but I have lost a lot of confidence in her ability to control our military and be a national leader.

  • Posted By: Bob B @ 01/08/2008 10:56:42 AM

The real problem I see is, how will she handle real problems in office. The same way? If a vote on one of her bills doesn't go her way, tears? What about in a real crisis. I have really lost confidence in her.

  • Posted By: SpeakUp @ 01/08/2008 8:13:51 AM

Name a single executive position of any importance that Hillary has held.

Name a single budget that she has balanced.

Name a single thing that makes her more qualified than other candidates who have far more governmental experiance?

    Thought so.
