Can Your Skin Be Saved?
- Glycolic acid removes the outermost layer of facial skin to reveal something fresher. Takes only minutes; leaves the face slightly red.
- Trichloroacetic acid induces a deeper peel. Your skin will turn white, then red, before peeling off.
- Phenol acid is the harshest chemical peel available. Rarely used, because it has to be administered in a hospital setting.
- Erbium laser zaps only the outermost layer of facial skin. More precise than a chemical peel-and considerably more expensive.
- Carbon laser goes deeper than erbium, firming up collagen. Skin may blister and ooze for a few days.
