Such attacks usually can be disproved with less effort than it takes to forward them to others. The statement that Snopes endorsed the false claim that Obama is a Muslim radical is an example. So we find it disappointing that they continue to circulate. But we expect to see more of them as the election year wears on, and we'll do our best to expose them when readers bring them to our attention.

Most of the people I work with who buy into such obviously outrageous mudslinging are eager to buy into anything negative - even if it is ridiculous to discredit a black man. I am a white man in a red state that voted for the best qualified individual , who happened to be a thoughtfull , intellectual black American who will put his love for all people and his country ahead of party politics or personal convenience. I have learned a great deal about my country and my fellow countrymen during this election cycle. In the year 2008 , the greatest and most freedom loving nation on earth should not even be having a discussion on race. It should not exist as a question. When we reach that point we can truly say we are great & free for all. The second thing I have learned is that old P.T. Barnum quote that no one ever went broke by underestimating the intelligence of the American public. The Republican party plays extremely well to the fears and ignorance of many average citizens.
