Routine Treadmill testing for men over 50 and women over 55 is mandatory to diagnose and treat silent heart disease. Also, there is a very high correlation between dental health and heart disease (as well as many inflamatory diseases). Daily flossing and dental cleanings are very important as preventative measures.

And if you have no insurance? What tests do you get? If you cannot get insurance because of a pre-existing condition? What tests do you get?

The Essentials. And you can go to Urgent Care centers to save money on testing. Also, look into stand-alone insurance companies, some are very inexpensive.

NIKKIP.........When do you actuall y consider a baby in a womb a person. Between what day or time. How can you randomly decide on a day or time where a baby is a human being. YOU CAN't. Killing a baby at 1 month in the womb or 9 months in the womb is murder.

I don't care what you do with your body. I am concern what you do to other people. Yes babies are people. All because it is an inconvience. How said the human race is.

If the moment a fetus becomes a person has yet to be solidly determined, then you cannot say a fetus at conception is beyond a doubt a person. It might have the potential to become a person, depending on how we come to legally define personhood, but just because it has yet to be decided does not mean we err on the side of personhood from conception. Think about it. If it cannot be determined, then your argument is null.

This may sound crazy, but if you have a *** you should not be stating your opinions on abortion. You cannot become pregnant, you will never know the pain a woman goes through when making such a decision. You will never feel the gut wrenching terror of keeping a child that has been brought about through rape or incest. Nobody is, "Pro-Abortion." There is not a single woman who wants to have an abortion. Pregnancy can be the most beautiful gift a woman will ever have, but it can also be the most emotionally destructive experience. It is not about religious views or ethical beliefs and morals, it is a woman's right to control her own body even if that means choosing to save her own life over the life of what could be.

I am amazed that a women would get an abortion because she is inconvienced. Why not give it up for adoption? There is a two year waiting list. What an amazing gift a women could give to a complete stranger and give her baby a chance.

I am confused. 9 months of inconvience for a lifetime of a free conscience.

I was a bit surprised to see that Federal Guidelines suggest that teenage boys are pro-active enough with their health to actually perform testicular exams on their own - and then it is assumed they will seek help if they find something. Seems to me that all these "tests" seriously diminish the need for doctors don't they? I do have to wonder if the insurance companies financially supported this article given its shortcomings.

one thing i have to say is i was diagnosed with maternal mirror syndrome and I was happy that an abortion saved my life so I could have children later.

No Mention of Dental Exams? Being able to Eat is pretty important. Cavities must be the MOST COMMON Disease in humans... There have been many studies linking Heart Disease with Gum Disease... So dont forget to go to the dentist at least once -twice per year starting as early as you get teeth....

lady frnj, so you are one of those crazy christians that tells the rest of us not to judge but you call women that have abortions "murders", it's "murderers", by the way. Get a life and practice what you preach. Worry about your own life and your own behaviors and that of your children.

Improved diagnostic technology and screening methods makes it possible to get our essential wellness exams less often, which is good news for everyone. Unfortunately, the occasional "human mistake" of misdiagnosis could have dangerous consequences with less-frequent testing.

Is the desire of living long is right and pratical, its time when all should be taught to live a practical and fruitful life with right kind of food intake an dgoo dhabit to avoid allcostly bills and tests. Thet willbecheaper and more practical. This teaching can be imported at early age rather teaching science and commerce

I believe the incorrect abortion comment was referring to the fetuses as people who are being killed; not that the abortions are killing the women having them. I do not believe those statistics are correct or accurate in any way. Perhaps if we stop teaching worthless abstinence only sex education in schools, we could greatly reduce the number of unintended pregnancies. Maybe if we can start spending time with our kids, talking to them about sex, raising them with some scruples, then there would be fewer rapists in the world and fewer girls pressured into sex before they are ready, and fewer teenagers having sex at super young ages and definitely there would be fewer people having unprotected sex. People are having premarital, young sex regardless of what we teach them in schools- let's teach them the truth and something useful! Something that will prevent unintended pregnancies. But let us not take away the individual right to choose! Let us not brainwash our kids with religious- based jargon about abstinence. Yes, ideally we would all wait until we were old enough and mature enough and financially stable enough to handle the responsibilities of having sex. Guess what? That isn't happening! So, let's work with reality and what is happening. Our kids deserve the truth and to be armed with knowledge, not ignorance. And parents should stop relying on public schools to do their dirty work and teach kids morals, sex education, the bible... Spend some time with the people you brought into the world and do it yourselves if you, as a parent, have that strong an opinion on what your child learns and how they grow up.

I posted this today on healingwell.com/forum under Prostrate Cancer:
    Newsweek Articles Irresponsible at Best
Your writers might be a little less cavilier with their conclusions and advice when lives are on the line.

    Friends,

I was reading the medical articles in the latest Newsweek (21JAN08 Date) and saw one stated that abnormal PSA levels are wrong more than right. ???!!!!

In another article it reported the guidelines for PSA tests are to perhaps begin at the earliest at age 50 but that even this was "controversial" with "half" the physicians reporting deeming PSA testing of questionable benefit. ???!!!

One article also implies that incontinence and E.D. are permanent with any treatment. ???!!!

    ARE THESE PEOPLE CRAZY?!

I'm sure these articles on medical testing have the backing of (adjectives deleted) major medical insurance company and Medicare actuaries and financiers. It saddens me to think anyone reading this stuff might be influenced to pass up a chance to stop metestasized cancer.

My father, an actual cedar fence post chopper in the 1930s, at this point in a discussion would comment something like,
"....Some don't have sense to pour piss out of a boot with the directions written on the heel...."

    Sincerely,

    CCedar

What is the diffrence between ABORTION and capital MURDER. Women who do this to themselves always always have an excuse, 1) "I dont have time right now in my life for a baby" 2) " I was using protection I dont know what happened" You women who have abortions are murders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's not enough to get these tests...you need to get copies of the tests (especially the blood tests) and review them your self. BE PRO-ACTIVE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH !!!!!

    • Posted By: imrozzy @ 01/21/2008 1:02:01 PM

Can you 'read' the rusults and know what all those numbers mean?????? Guess you have a shingle hanging outside your door... most of us don't !!!!!
      Better to ASK questions.. !!!!

  • Posted By: sandship @ 01/21/2008 12:58:10 PM

Sorry. Abortion is not a risk factor. It is entirely controllable. If you don't want one, simply don't have one. But don't push your religious convictions on the rest of us.

  • Posted By: imrozzy @ 01/21/2008 12:57:36 PM

It is good to know and great to give advise on what to do, but don't forget to check with your insurance company first as not all of these tests will be covered. And some of us (especially the senior community get hit with a hefty bill for these services) Wouldn't it be more economical for them (inc Medicare) to cover for preventative medicine than the actual illness ?? Also can you tell me why NO ONE covers hearing aids??? Sorry I couldn't hear you I can't afford the $4000.00 for hearing aids. Only the VA is covered, how come????

  • Posted By: sandwoman @ 01/21/2008 12:48:21 PM

They left an important statistic out of their 'risk factors'. Abortion is the number one cause of death in America today. Look at the photo of the baby to your left and tell me that is not a life.

    • Posted By: hamidbak @ 01/21/2008 12:54:47 PM

No king of morons, abortion isn't even in the radar when it comes to the number of people dying. Where the hell do you get your stats? Read for God's sake, Jesus!
