Comment: When Hillary appeared before her one-time classmates from the old days in sheepskin jacket and bellbottom jeans at Yale last weekend, one elderly lady shouted: "You look so 1972, dear!" This was meant to be a compliment, but maybe it is true.

Couple these easily discovered items that are public domain with the disgraceful opening to the Democrat Debate with Clinton and Obama acting like children, with the increase of negative campaigning by virtually every person ??? Democrat, Republican and Independent, and what could have been a Election for President in 2008 of potentially historic proportion is rapidly deteriorating into the usual mud-slinging. There are very real and very important differences among ALL of the candidates, and instead of the Democrats trying to destroy Democrats, and the Republicans trying to destroy Republicans, why can???t the candidates present their accomplishments in a manner that everyone can be proud of. It is the responsibility of the Democrat, Republican and Independent Parties to reign in their candidates and try to at least retain some level of decorum.

Comment: MaCain will be another Bush not Hillary. I cannot believe the Clinton bashing going on here. Did President Clinton make mistakes? Of course he did, and so did all Presidents before him. Perfection is not possible. Compare what shape this country and your wallet was in when Bill Clinton was President. Our deficet was out of sight under Reagan, Daddy Bush and now this Bush. We had a surplus with Bill Clinton--we had jobs--the environment was important to him. I liked the fact that Hillary wasn't the good little girl in the background and also contributed--especially regarding childrens' programs. Bill is doing what all the other spouses of these candidates are doing --he is supporting his wife. Whether he goes overboard is a matter of opinion---the media drives this also. I plan on making up my own mind without any other influences--just by listening and paying attention.

    Comment: CLINTON'S RACIAL CAMPAIGN

It looks like Clinton's race-based campaign will keep the GOP in Whitehouse for four more years.

Clinton's racially charged campaign is turning more white Democrats to vote for her; but this will likely lead to November defeat by the loser Democrats.

Hillary's messup this year will be the grand example for woman not to seek Presidency just because she was lucky enough to be the wife of a president (which propels her to the national scene.) I really do not like these Bush and Clinton political dynasties.

Comment: I think a Hillary would spoil future chances for women in high office. She tops the 2007 Most Corrupt Politician list by "Judicial Watch" (Rudi also made the list), refuses to release her White House records, divides the Democratic party and voted with Bush on the war. The Bush/Clinton/Bush/Bush connection has been damaging to our country. We need to break out of the corrupt Washington establishment.

Comment: Surrounded by her husband's alpha glow, it's a real test of the X and Y factor in this 2008 election.

Where normally, the Y factor is inherent in the contest, Hillary's is outside, not inside.
Some could argue that the benefit of a spouse with a X factor is exactly equal to the Y factor Hillary brings into the campaign. But that Y factor has a history hard to ignore, which, apparently is still vital enough to be persuasive. A hard challenge for other candidates, but of equal significance as equal opportunity to be impressive to voters. How can one person be discounted without discounting all? It doesn't fit with free speech or the historic traditions of American democracy.

Ask about Juanita, Paula, Kathleen, Gennifer, etc., etc., etc. Also, maybe they can ask him about his pardon of the federal criminal Marc Rich. Also, ask him how much money the Saudis have given him along with the Chinese. Ask him about Bin Laden and the Rose Law Firm records. I wish you Hillary backers would do some research. I don't like Bush either, but despise the Clintoons.; BTW--have they yet allowed Chelsea to talk?

Comment: Many Hillary supporters constantly assert that the millions of us who oppose her do so because she is a woman. Perhaps some do, but millions of us oppose Hillary because she is unfit to rule!
If she were not her sham husband's sham wife, and if she were not campaigning after seven years of idiocy and disaster under President Bush-Cheney, then she would never have a chance at the presidency. In fact, her similarities to the worst characteristics of President Bush-Cheney are remarkable similar.

Like Bush-Cheney, Hillary is the same nasty, polarizing, and divisive person, to the citizens at large as well as to non-Democrats, and even to innumerable Democrats.

Like Bush-Cheney, Hillary has a proven record of secrecy, lies, and prevarication. Such deceit is natural to their characters, stemming from their constant need to put personal/partisan needs above all else, certainly above the needs of America.

Like Bush-Cheney, Hillary is totally in the pockets of Corporate America, lobbyists, and special interest groups, more than any other candidate.

Like Bush-Cheney, Hillary has an unethical character [see the above two points] that is not trustworthy. Even those who support her have shown this in poll after poll.

Like Bush-Cheney, Hillary [and like Bill] has consistently shown an imperious disregard for the law, never concerned about bending it, reinterpreting it, or disregarding it altogether if it does not suit their own personal needs.

Like Bush-Cheney, Hillary [and like Giuliani] uses the despicable ???politics of fear??? in attempting to gain support from the American voters.

Like Bush-Cheney, Hillary???s use of a planted audience and controlled questions from selected questioners in public appearances makes a farce of honest reporting and the democratic ???conversation??? she said her campaign [as he said his presidency] would be about.

Hillary???s claim of "experience" is even phonier than she is. Actually, there is little "job training" available for killer job of being president. The most crucial of qualifications are the quality of one's intelligence [beyond mere political cunning] and the quality of one's character [dare I even mention the fuddy-duddy old-fashioned word ???virtue????]. Hillary???s White House days as first lady were not a qualifying experience to be president. For those who can remember, and think, they were eight years of proof for why she should not be.

And it is bizarrely amusing that she can even mention the word ???change??? in reference to herself. Hillary is, above all, the same old, samer older.

Comment: The race and gender issues that seem to rise to the forefront of the Clinton/Obama debate has clouded, and I think, oversimplified some serious concerns. The biggest of those concerns is how to repair the damage that Bush has done to our nation both nationally and internationally.
As a black woman, I understand the complexities of the choice between Clinton and Obama. Obama is black, true, but a man. Clinton is a woman, true, but white. Historically, both the civil rights movement and the women???s movement were criticized for excluding the concerns of black women. For black women to focus on Obama???s race means ignoring the very real sexist aspects upheld by many black men. Just because Obama is a black man doesn???t mean that he will automatically address the needs of the black woman. For black women to focus on Clinton???s gender means ignoring the very real racist aspects perpetuated by many white women. Just because Clinton is a woman doesn???t mean she will automatically address the needs of black women. In fact, the sexist comments made against Clinton even point to the fact that we are a nation more race conscious than sex conscious.
This race has become African-Americans seeing Obama as a savior for blacks and women seeing Clinton as a savior for women. This has created a dilemma in women like me who are both black and female. Either vote is a ???betrayal??? of a minority. In the article, one reverend was quoted in reference to having a viable female and African-American candidate. The question or statement should not be about having two viable minority candidates but about having an EXPERIENCED candidate. Why do we need experience right now? Because it will take experience to clean up the mess that Bush has made of our nation. Personally, I wish that Obama had waited, that he had gained more of that experience that he needs. Hope is a great thing. We need hope. But more than anything, we need someone who can land in the White House running. Someone who, in all honesty, has been in the White House before. I think Obama is an excellent candidate but I think that at this moment, right now, more than black people needing hope, more than women needing hope, even more than our nation needing hope, America needs an effective president. Cause actions, more than hope, will get the job done. And I think that person, with a wealth of getting the job done, is Hillary Clinton.

Comment: The issue in this primary campaign is not Hilary's "voice" but her VOTES. She has consistently voted with the Bush Administration on virtually every foreign policy subject. She has pandered to the extremists in the Israeli right wing and to the extremists in the Cuban community. She is a war monger who has raised more $ from defense contractors than any other candidate, Dem or GOP. She is not what the country needs.

Comment: Bill Clinton is "OVERSHADOWING" his wife. This was displayed when he attempted to defend Sen. Clinton???s comments about former President LBJ, on Black radio. I felt the anger from him, across the airways, and as a Black voter, the vibe I received from former President Clinton, was "I stood by you N....., and now you're turning your backs on us.....so what if Barack Obama is Black, you owe me". For us, kill your dreams. Who???s running for President, ???Bill??? or ???Hillary???? Hillary has to show America that she could fight her own battles, and defend her position. If she doesn???t show the world that she could keep her husband mouth shut, it???s going to ultimately hurt her bid for the Presidency. Former President Bill Clinton is angry because he realizes that Barack Obama will beat Hillary, when those two square off. When you are fearful, you attack what poise a threat. He???s angry and thinking out loud, ???I???ll be daman if I let a Black Man beat Hillary???. ???We are superior to the Black race???..Barack Obama (A Black Man) can???t lead me. ???No way in Hell???. This is the vibe I???m getting from the Clinton Campaign. It hurts that they thinks African-Americans can???t lead effectively, it hurts because if Hillary Campaign Manager decide to run for President against her, they will crucify her, it hurts because they just simply say, ???African-Americans are not worthy of such a high office???.
That???s why African-Americans need Barack Obama to stop the hurt, because we get it from both ends; Republicans and Democrats with a Superiority spirit.

Comment: All of this brouhaha over Bill's temper reminds me of Teddy Roosevelt's comments to his complaining contemporaries about his daughter, Alice: "I can run the country or I can run Alice ... but I can't do both." It seems to me that Hillary can capably handle both because she already has ... showing courage and strength while keeping her head up and her life on course. And, in a more playful vein: surely the best person to run a House is a woman ... whether it's The White House or The House of Congress....

Al Sharpton. "As much as black people love them, they won't take too well to Bill or Hillary attacking another black person too strongly."
Such statements as this by Rev. Sharpton are making this a "race" issue...this is a political campaign and Hillary should be able to "attack" her opponent in the same manner regardless if he is black, white or red!!

If she is elected, we can flush family values down the toilet again. The clintons have proved to us in the past what kind of people they are. I can't believe that we are even considering putting them back in the power seat. It is true that most politicians lie and say what the American public wants to hear, but these people have been caught in lie after lie. This may explain why she was so understanding during the Lewinsky issues. She resonates more with Bill than Monica.

Comment: I am Republican looking for the right candidate. I have suffered years of continued disappointment in my party affiliation. While I was raised as a conservative, this position has polarized my values and paradigms and has not been dynamic or relative which is essential to resolving the issues facing Americans. This stance versus liberal ideology is unproductive and locks this nation is political dogma. The candidate most likely to defie the old guard of politics is the candidate who will get my vote. It appears that candidate will be Barack Obama.
A few comments on the article:
"H" claims "...informed by my deep experience over the last 35 years...go backwards...found my voice define her. What I take away from her campaign and how she has tried to present herself against Republicans is what was referred to in the past as "Yellow Dog Democrats" It is my belief "H' has people like Sharpton and Jackson because of this paradigm. Whatever it takes to win and she and her strategist will play the female persona of feelings to hang onto the female vote.
I perceive Barack Obama as the candidate which can be a crossover for moderate Republicans, who I believe represent the masses in the Republican party. For the moderate, Obama is the real change agent who has not yet been sullied by the old guard and financially dominating lobbyist who have dictated politics for 40+ years.

As a stay-at-home mom for 18 years, I was was extremely offended by Hillary's remarks and attitude towards the above mentioned group of ladies. Comment: Hillary has the qualifications to become a great President. She has the passion, experience, intelligence and toughness. She does not just meet the minimum qualifications. Her record over the last 35 years of helping America become a better nation is second to none. Whether one is female, black or a white man is not relevant.. A look at their past actions in seeing real results is what the American people should base their vote on. Edwards has become somewhat of an angry man picking at Hillary with every chance, since his last try for the presidency, not what we need. Obama delivers a great script (like to know who his script writer is), but he is a poor debater when he has to depend on his own words and experience. Having well rounded knowledge to run the most powerful nation in the world should certainly be a qualification I believe. Hillary has this. Lack of experience in Obama and an angry man is not what we need to run this country. If Hillary becomes the Democratic Presidential Candidate then I will be voting for her in November. If she does not, then I will be voting for the Republican candidate that has experience. Probably why the Republicans want Obama to win, so they can beat him and gather support from the Democrats. Our country is in much need of experienced leadership, not an apprentice.

Obama keeps saying he would not have supported the Iraq war. The intelligence of the Bush administration implying that Saddam was acquiring nuclear weapons and just after what happened on 9-11, I would think everyone should have supported this war. Bush had intelligence that there was a threat of nuclear weapons, we thought Saddam was hiding them and they were a threat to our national security. Why would Obama vote against this war? What would he have done if the Bush information was correct, wait until they nuked us before we retaliated. Is this what we would face in the future with him as our president? If he was against the War as he states, then why has he consistently voted in favor of billions of dollars to go and support this war? Does Obama really know what he supports? His past voting record shows more PRESENT votes than anyone else in the senate instead of yea or nay for the issues. Does he feel if he just stays neutral of voting it won't hurt him politically? Just what does he stand for? Obama needs six more years of experience as a senator so he can just learn the job and the American people can figure out what he stands for, not just the ability to deliver a scripted speech. Hillary has the experience and has had to not only go through tough times being a woman, but she has had to deal with an unfaithful Husband. I am impressed that she stuck with Bill and they found their common ground. I respect her more for sticking with him. Working through the issues and keeping the family together.

Comment: Passion, experience, intelligence and toughness. Are you blind?
Passion for POWER. She has yet to show a passion for anything American.
Experience in being what? She has never had a job that her husband did not get for her. If 8 years inthe White House is experience, The Pastry Chef there is a better candidate.
Intelligence is relative. Maybe she seems intelligent to you, but I don't think so highly of her.
Toughness doesn't cry when she loses.
Just like so many others, you have been duped by the Clinton Machine. Just because she says she has these qualities, doesn't mean it's true. I'm glad that you don't hire for our Company. I'd be working with unqualified people

Comment: Hillary Clinton has all the qualifications to become a very good President. I feel that is very unfortunate that Clinton and Obama are running at the same time. If Hillary become the Democratic Presidential Candidate then I will be voting for her in November. If she does not, then I will be voting for the Republican candidate.

I have some serious doubts about Obama's ability to lead our nation successfully. He is full of happy talk but when you examine his voting record on key issues, he deided to not vote. I want to be able to look at a candidates voting record and that is something that I can do with all the candidates on both sides except Obama.

Comment: The saying goes, "How the twig is bent, the tree will grow." It is an error to credit the Clinton Administration for the low deficit and all the nice things that were listed by euniceromaguera@ o1/17/2008. Those benefits resulted from legislation and policies enacted during Bush Administrations. Everyone knows it takes awhile for ripples to reach the shore and at least a few terms to clearly see the effect an administration has upon the nation. Bill and Hillary waltzed through the White House basking in the light of the Bush Administration's hard work and sacrifice! It is no surprise they miss it and would LOVE to return! Not to say that Hillary is afraid of work, but honestly any mother knows how tough it is to focus on your work when you have an errant child running around the house! If she wins, this time it won't be Hillary whispering to Bill about what he should say and do, she'll just do it herself, which in my opinion should have happened in the first place. I for one, can't stand the thought of that man back in the White House, waltzing and banqueting and 'carrying on'. It would be a joke, a travesty, a tragedy! Hillary missed the boat of the presidency. She should have run before, not Bill. And speaking of boats, as far as I know Obama Baraka had no ancestors on any slave ships, so I don't understand the big focus on how 'finally' an African-American is in the race. He grew up in Hawaii, didn't he? (Are, are there ghettos there?) It doesn't matter! He is an American, but don't be labeling him as a 'soul brother' who knows all about the issues that the real ones do! Eloquence is NOT experience. Guess that leaves one democrat in my favor, but he is white and a man and that is not hip with the democratic hip-hop vote. SAD!

      Comment: You are joking, right?

      • Posted By: gomyson @ 01/17/2008 18:15:22

Comment: It's true, for the most part I was kidding...All the array of cliche's really cloud the issues, but I wasn't kidding about the travesty of Bill haunting the hallowed halls again...Does he realize the extent of damage that his betrayal exacted on Hillary, not to mention the devastated trust of Americans young and old? To rationalize and say 'it happens' is the biggest cop-out I've ever heard. I would so vote for her if she had dumped him! You see, I have this NEED to respect my leaders.

Obama became a candidate almost as quickly as he became a senator and he doesn't have much of a voting record to give him legs to stand on either way of certain issues. He is pretty, smart and trim and I wouldn't be surprised if he won, based on those points alone. When someone you love is in trouble, you want to employ the best counsel you can find and that often comes with experience. In my view he has a lot going for him and I wouldn't mind if he was 'just a senator' for awhile to see what he can do.
Sometimes senators can do more than Presidents and I think he has enough license and energy to go for it in the senate and come again in another 4 years.

The Democratic line-up is at odds with itself and if black just votes for black or women for women, they will all still be minorities in the end. I think this race is pretty much up to John, whether or not he will stay in it and I think he should.

Comment: I admire her, if she wins the NOD, she will get all my support. Senator Clinton, is an extremely smart person, she gets into the nuances of legislations and in legislative body, she is curious, informed and knows very well the surroundings, which favors all of us. I don't agree with some of the comments posted here about her husband. We had and enjoyed the best economy ever during the Clintons. Deficit low, unemployment rate low, employment jobs high, middle class growing and the biggest home ownership. I was a good time in our country. We were respected around the world. Yes, we had the hick ups of his private life, but we Americans are not stupid, we know very well, the republicans did this by full force b/c, they had to destroy his good reputation around the world and his presidency somehow. The both are visionaries and this is what this country needs at this time, right NOW. . By the way, they were also good on terrorism. The fought against it, they captured the responsible of the first Twin Towers attacked and send him to prison for life. They prevented another terror plot in the eve of 2000. You don???t??? know about or didn???t??? know about it, because he did PROTECTED US. When Bush took office Clinton told him to be aware of Bin Laden and that he needed to track him down. Of course, we all know what happened. Our president was on vacation most of the time and demoted Richard Clark who had the experience on working in Counter-Terrorism. If don't believe it, read Clark's book. Clinton did the impossible to fight terrorism and all the republicans, the media and 50% of Americans only wanted to know and be concerned was on his private life. If Americans are smart and want to go back to the glory days, we all shout vote this extremely intelligent woman!.

If you think Barack has no experience, you need to read time magazines article about that very subject. It will open your eyes very wide -- http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1704117,00.html

      • Posted By: djm99 @ 01/17/2008 12:41:03

Comment: The fact that she claims she has 35 years experience. Experience in what - being Bill's wife. Since when does being first lady give you experience. Since when can one take the experience of their husband and claim it as their own. When Bill was President she served on many boards but only lead one. And most of her accomplishments have been self serving - few to none have anything with serving the people. She was behind many important bills, but didn't have the personality or know with all to get individuals on team. She is status quo. A more liberal Bush. She's even using his fear tactics in her campaign. Don't get it confused. Hills is not Bill!!!!

        • Posted By: sirena @ 01/17/2008 12:51:58

Comment: I think you under estimate the responsibilities of the first lady. Having a good part of your life being a the wife of a governor and the wife of a president does give you a unique perspective on how to do things and EXPERIENCE. and to top if it she was working for and with people before bill was ever elected. Who cares if Hill is not Bill. I love Bill, but i think that Hill has better ideas and will make an even better president. Obama talks about change but has not done a whole lot to bring out about. he voted for funding for the war.. meaning he helped it keep going on... but hes SO against it.... Talk about a status quo.....

Before the New Hampshire vote, she showed her "emotions" and managed to get the sympathy of women. Now she is on the cover of Newsweek and showing up for the "Tyra Banks Show" 2 days before the South Carolina caucus. Very calculating, I would say.....

The lies this President (Bush) has told are criminal and thousands have died because of his lies----do you care about that??? Give me a break!

Comment: Shame on the American people for misleading Clinton into thinking she belongs anywhere near the White House. Ethically devoid, morally bankrupt bottom-feeders who have brought shame and embarrasement to our highest office - no suprise the world despises us. Bad enough we've got Rain Man (Without the math skills) in office now, you want to put the Clintons back in there for no other reason than she's female? Well, the upside is, maybe the taxpayers will get some of the White House furniture back...

    • Posted By: dgarrand @ 01/17/2008 07:24:51

Comment: I am not voting on race or gender---I am listening to the debates and paying attention to where the candidates stand on the issues that are important to me. There just happens to be a woman and an African American running for President. If everyone had voted this way in the last two elections we wouldn't have had Cowboy Bush in office. Of course, it also helps if all votes are counted. I am not looking for perfection here---when President Clinton was in office, this country and the American people were in pretty decent shape. With President Bush we have been lied to big time over and over---thousands of our young people and thousands of innocent Iraqis' are dead because of these lies--are you paying attention? I doubt if Senator Clinton or Senator Obama would appreciate votes just based on their gender or race----listen to the candidates---listen to their positions on the issues---then vote your choice. The rest of us depend on it.

Comment: Hillary is a woman. Obama is black. Romney is white. Is there ANYONE out their who didn't realize this the first time they saw a picture of these candidates? Race and gender only plays a part in the election if you vote FOR or AGAINST the candidate based upon these obvious points. Is it 'historical' that a woman or black person is running for president? Not really - Ferraro, Jackson, Sharpton, etc. have all wasted money running for the highest office in the land. These two are no different...

Hill gets her eight years, then Obama gets his (with lots more experience at THAT point). This would give us a few good administrations in a row to fix what Bush has wrecked in the past eight years, domestically and abroad. Edwards would be a good choice for Attorney General, IMHO.
