As a member of the LDS Church (Mormon) - I have been somewhat interested in why Romney is playing the "politician". It appears that any policitican will say what is needed to win, whether it is McCain, Huckabee, Thompson, or any other - they are trying to appeal to the people. THere isn't a democrat that is any different either! The bottom line, pick someone with guts, morals, and someone you think will do well - becuase they will all say what they think you want to hear. Want someone to do what they really think, and be a straight shooter with you? Pick George Bush - no one can accuse the man of not doing what he felt was right. He has done that - and no one has appreciated it for the most part. He isn't influenced by public opinion. But, to think that a politician is going to be straight with you during the elections!? Come on, you will either believe what they say or you won't. Romney is no different than any of the others, regardless of party.

Bristol74, who cares what Romney or any other candidate believes about Christ, it's about the econony stupid! Religion has no place in politics. If you want religion, go to church!

You may all ridicule JBuz, but with the exceptions of numbers eight and nine, he's telling the truth. I've heard the same testimony from ex-Mormons who have had to sue to leave the LDS "church". It's a cult started by a proven, admitted con-man. The rest of you should do your research before you blindly label LDS members as Christians. This is not to say that there aren't good, wholesome people in the LDS community. But Christians they aren't. Below are two sites you might consider reviewing before you start believing LDS "doctrine". (And no, I'm not Catholic =) ).

    http://www.exmormon.org/
    http://www.exmormon.org/fourteen.htm
    http://www.catholic.com/library/Gods_of_the_Mormon_Church.asp

There are numerous other sites that expose the true nature of the LDS "church". And I encourage all of you to do some research to learn the truth. Again, none of this is to say that Mitt Romney is a bad man. Personally I think he's a good family man. But if your core beliefs can be based on a doctrine that is proven false and, to the Christain church, heretical, what does that say about your judgement in other more secular matters?

Thank for saying what I feel so succintly. I attended a Christian University and had to write a thesis on another religion and "prove" through my paper whether I thought the religion could be considered a Christian religion. I chose Mormonism because it was 1980 and I had been a huge Osmond fan and they are Mormon. My research was eye-opening to say the least. Mormons try very hard to hide under the "conservative Christian" umbrella and while the are certainly morally conservative, I have some real issues with the gullibility of Mormons. While I have no doubt that Romney is a very moral family man, I have strong misgivings about someone being the most powerful man in the world who follows the Mormon faith. To be fair, though, I like many things about Barack Obama and believe that he is a very moral man, however, after looking at his church's website www.tucc.org, I would have the same misgivings about him winning the Presidency.

Good Gosh, you people are amazing. I am a lifelong Mormon, we ready, study and love and follow the New Testamant, JESUS is our Lord and Savior, no other. The Jesus of the New Testament, we believe the Book of Mormon is another set of Scriptures that support the Bible - We believe it to be a a Marvelous work and Wonder, mentioned in ISAIAH 29 - Romney is running for PRESIDENT of the USA - As an AMERICAN ! WhaWhat does a religious

Romney is NOT running for President of a Religious School - He said what Kennedy said the Church affairs are theirs, the USA affairs are the Presidents and the peoples, the 2 do not mix as church and state are seperated. I am sad to see so many people hate Romney or talk bad about him, and not congratulate him on his strides he has made, and the ONLY reason is cause he is Mormon - The Predjudice of the ignorant people that do not give an American a chance, based on his personal religion is SICKENING ! I am a lifelong Mormon, I am open minded enough to hear what anyt cannidate is for, I vote for whomever has the best ideas that I think are. I don't vote for or against a person based on their beliefs. If a Catholic has great ideas, they deserve a vote, a Jewish person, a vote, Baptist, Mormon, whatever - Hindu I don't care, cause CHURCH and STATE are seperate. Romney made that clear, like Kennedy the Church runs their affairs, the President runs the country's. At least I am a fair Mormon, if I decide to voter for Huckabee, I will and not cuase he is a Baptist I do not care what Religion a Canidate is. Romney is a good man, give him a fair chance, hear him out, don't be biased just becuase of his personal religion. I am Mormon and I do not automatically vote for a Canidate cause they are Mormon. Gelnn Beck is Mormon, and I hate to watch that show. PEOPLE PLEASE outgrow this infatile elementry school bigotry

What in the hell is wrong with you jldean1? Give me a link to every other candidate's churches website so I can evaluate what their religious beliefs are? Give me a link to your church's website so I can figure out what you believe. At least "Mormons" or members of "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" stand for something. It takes commitment to be a member of the church because you are so involved. Romney has held positions in the "Mormon" church just as high has Huckabee has in his church. You either judge everyone all equally and personally or judge them based on their political and economic experience. I can't remember the last time that a politician went to his pastor to make a decision on what to do with the country.

I am a "Mormon" and I served a 2 year mission up in the Seattle area, and I remember churches there that actually had special nights where they would teach you how to talk to "Mormons" and bash with them. I don't think I remember anything about Jesus teaching bashing classes about the Jews.

From what I've gathered about our country right now is that the biggest problems with out country at the root level are the economics. Prinitnig too much money for the war, illegals absorbing all our resources, life term politicians in Washington, etc.

I don't see the Mormons doing anything wrong. You can take anything out of context after the fact with malice and make it look bad. A woman in an amazing passionate relationship that is scorned can reverse her feelings like that accuse the scorner of rape. Who would you believe. I'll stop babbling. Accept everyone for who they are or just plain go to hell.

There are many anti-Ford sites that tell the "truth" about what Ford really is like. Same with Chevy. Come on, if I want info, I go to the source, not to embittered bigots who left the Church because of fatuous reasons. Come on!

Believe me as a Massachusetts resident, I know this guy and he is as duplicitous and phony as they come- research him on almost any position and you'll find he blows like the wind when it is expedient for him. He ran for Gov of Massachusetts on one platform, totally changed course two years later when running for Pres and went around the country bashing the state that had elected him. They don't call him "*** Romney" for notheothingeveryone I know has been totally discusse

    • Posted By: vicasey @ 01/16/2008 12:56:07 PM

My friend who lived in Massachusetts said the opposite. Each person has their opinion and we each get to study it out. From what I studied, I agree more with my friend than dexdexter. Mitt made 90 promises to Massachusetts and kept them. Mitt balanced the budget even making people mad by cutting government jobs and making tough decisions. He made the tough choices and improved the state. I love how Patrick Duvall cancelled all of Romneys cuts and the state is back in a financial situation. Hmmmm.

    • Posted By: mudshrimpmoe @ 01/16/2008 12:46:28 PM

As I'm sure you know, now that he's running for national office he has nothing good to say about the State of Massachusetts. At Bob Jones University he was recorded saying that he never identified with Massachusetts. Pretty slimey, I'd say.

  • Posted By: Kaygarnet @ 01/16/2008 12:53:39 PM

Romney has won because he knows what he is doing and people have voted because they have and still will have confidence in him as a president. jensenvideo has said it all in the comment posted.

  • Posted By: buck1 @ 01/16/2008 12:52:44 PM

Romney is doing a good job. He has come in second in two primaries and 1st in Michigan. Try and match that with the other candidates. His support has been steady and I believe he has a good chance of becoming the next president . Lucky for America, the voter is usually smarter than the media. I am amazed at how mean and personal people get when it comes to politics. You can usually tell an intelligent person from a ridiculous smoke blowing, talking head, because the intelligent person talks about issues. The average American is tired of listening to the personal jabs.

It is amazing that Newsweek can write articles like this and not mention Dr. Ron Paul, who beat Guiliani and Thompson and came in fourth in Michigan and is supported by donations of private individuals and not corporations and lobyists. He also was 2nd in the popular vote in Wyoming and has more money than all these fools you are talking about. Wake up Newsweek and join the Revolution.

    • Posted By: vicasey @ 01/16/2008 12:51:18 PM

The article is about Mitt Romeny, not a politician that comes in fourth. When Ron Paul wins a state he will get an article just like this one.

  • Posted By: vicasey @ 01/16/2008 12:48:57 PM

Just as dexdexter has his opinion, my firend that lived in Massachusetts said Mitt was a rare politician that had integrity in doing what he said he would completing all 90 promises that he made. He said Mitt didn't make all the decisions people wanted, he actually went against the grain of cutting out waste and making people mad by cutting government jobs. He enforced laws that already existedin the tax code that dishonest people were taking advantage of. On the other side though he said that Mitt moved the state forward by balancing the budget and creating a surplus. So everyone will have their opinion and I for one believe my friend as I have studied Romney, and my friend is closer to the truth.

  • Posted By: Kaygarnet @ 01/16/2008 12:48:55 PM

He won because he knows what he is doing and people know that and are confident that he would fight for what is best for everyone. Lets not forget that they fight and do all they can in their power to get things better for everyone but he or whom ever becomes president has to go through a process to get these laws and decisions approved.

  • Posted By: dexdexter @ 01/16/2008 12:36:25 PM

As a lifelong republican I am incredibly dissapointed with this result. I am a Massachusetts resident and can certify that this man in no way keeps his word. Two years after running for governor under one platform, he ran for President on another, bashing the state that elected him around the country. They don't call him "*** Romney" here for nothing!

  • Posted By: WAjohnson @ 01/16/2008 12:23:18 PM

Romney once again showed HIS true colors when he retooled his campaign to pander to the people of Michigan. This guy will say anything he thinks is necessary for a political victory no matter how improbable.
He played on the fears of an economically declined state and made people beleive that he would bring back the lost jobs in the auto industry and bring the state back to the 1950's prosperity. He knows he couldn't possibly deliver on this and doesn't intend to try. As a matter of fact, as a typical "blue blood" type Republican, he'll probably give tax breaks to companies who are relocating overseas!

    • Posted By: dewcooper @ 01/16/2008 12:32:48 PM

I love the power that some people give to others. If those who voted in Michigan for whoever were mislead, it was their own fault for don't doing adequate research on their statements. Politicians only have the 'power' that WE give them, nothing more.

  • Posted By: jckurz @ 01/16/2008 11:49:11 AM

He won because he told people what they wanted to hear, which is what he's done everywhere. In Michigan he told them he'd bring back automotive jobs. In NH he was touting himself as the agent of change, which was the popular message there, even though he's clung more closely to Bush's policies than anyone else running. I'm a Massachusetts Republican and I say he's an empty suit.

    • Posted By: aziar44 @ 01/16/2008 12:30:24 PM

You are dead on. Got elected in Massachusetts on pro gay marriage and pro-choice stances then suddenly changes his mind when it's convenient. Now he's against both of them. He'll say anything to get elected and it sickens me.

  • Posted By: mudshrimpmoe @ 01/16/2008 12:28:44 PM

Mitt Romney won Michigan the same way he came in second in Iowa and New Hampshire, by vastly outspending all of his opponents put together and by telling crowds whatever he decided they wanted to hear that day. His promises to reverse the one state recession in Michigand and, especially, that he would reverse the job losses in the auto industry are pandering of the worst sort. Even if Mitt is the financial genius his supporters believe he is, he can't do any of that. McCain had the guts to tell the truth. Perhaps it hurt him, but he left with his integrity in tact.

Romney wakes up every morning and has to decide what role he will play that particular day. This is the main reason, not his Mormonism, why he is a distant fourth in national polls for the GOP nomination. He simply cannot outspend all the rest of the candidates put together in every single state and expect to cruise to the nomination.

Was it a fluke? No! What a thought to plant. You guys kill me, the only reason I would ever even look at your website or your news channel is because of convenience. You guys just don't get it, we're not that naive. Mitt Romney is going to explode as he gets to the larger states and will be the nominee!

    • Posted By: aziar44 @ 01/16/2008 12:28:26 PM

Do you think he can win South Carolina? His faith is going to affect votes no matter what is said and Huckabee is a southerner who garners a lot of support from southern and midwest states, being a minister adding to that support. I think Huckabee will win, Romney might pull off 2nd and McCain and Thompson battle for third actually. I don't trust Mitt as far as I can throw him, he rubs me the wrong way every time he speaks. He's more of a sleazy salesman than a presidential candidate. Tells you what you want to hear just to get what he wants.

    Romney Wins Michigan GOP Primary
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 15 -- Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney resoundingly won the Michigan presidential primary Tuesday, seizing his first big victory in the Republican competition and blunting the momentum of his chief rival, Sen. John McCain (Ariz.).

Who said you can't buy an elaction? Only 20% of the total registered voters in michigan came out to vote compared to virtually all of the voters in New Hampshire. Romneys' arguments about what is wrong with washington; that it is broken and needs " CHANGE " sounds more like a Democratic cabdidates'Retoric than the Positive and Logical conservative presentations of a Republican like Fred Thompson. The Michigan voters should be ashamed of themselves for swallowing such drivell. Do they expect him to come up with a "MAGIC PILL" to solve their problems which they themselves are responsible for? When the workers bought one of the big companies and threw out the corrupt management making it worker owned and went from being in the red to being in the black in one year, I thought they finally had a handle on the cause of their problems. Apparently NOT since they must have given themselves UNREASONABLE raises and dividends causing a rise in the cost of steel and the cost of parts made by smaller companies wanting to keep pace. A car that retailed for $ 2000 dollars in 1974 now costs $24000 an increase of 1200 percent in only 33 years compared to an increase of 500 percent in the previous 40 years.Romneys' record like those of the Democrats shows that his solution is to spend more money on programs that won't work and haven't worked for the past 57 years. Will he be spending his money like he has been to get elacted? NO! He will be spending YOUR MONEY just like the Democrats will and have in the past.Amnesty for illegal immigrants who will pay a fine? Won't that open the door for more illegal immigrants from every country who have the money to pay the fine and bypass the current immigration law? Of course it will causing an unsustainable drain on the social security and welfare systems as well as the healthcare and school systems. Can't you see that these programs proposed by Romney,( Juliani another democrat) and the Democratic candidates are all related ? This is NOT a GAME as many commentators would have you believe. Just count the number of times it is referred to as a game during one broadcast. They are predicting the winners with no concern for the losers."So what?, you ask." The real losers will be ("YOU").
