It's amazing how biased the media is against Romney. He wins a major state and the headlines are "A Fluke?" and "Money Power". McCain wins in New Hampshire and he's the Comeback Kid. This "unbiased" reporter calls Romney a panderer, cameleon willing to spend or say anything to win. It seems to me all the candidates on both sides are doing the same thing. See Senator McCains sudden change on immigration.

How can you say that Mitt's focusing on the economy contributes to him "saying anything to win"? From the very start he has campaigned on strong economy, strong families and strong military. Your article is just a bitter and ornery attempt to draw away attention from his momentum and platform to his wealth. Sorry, but it is a lame, transparent effort. GO MITT!

Have to agree here...either the author is stupid or biased...probably a little or a lot of both. In my little area of the world, I'm surprised how many independents and democrats actually think favorably about Mitt (it's the economy, stupid).

I was in sales for years. If someone comes into my department store looking for a vacuum, I don't try to sell them a bedroom set. Although I have bedroom sets to sell, and have sold them to people needing them.
When a state is worried about illegal immigration, what Mitt has to do is tell them what his plan is for helping with that . Just because he doesn't focus as much on the Illegal Immigration in a state that is worried about jobs and the economy, does not mean that he will say anything to win. It doen NOT mean he changed his position. His focus should be on that problem at hand. Do NOT say that because of my analogy that he is a sales man either...I speak to that which I know. You could say the same thing about Doctors. I my doc says that I should take anti-biotics for my sore throat, but the next visit he says I need a cream for my dry skin, that does not mean he changed his posotion on anti-biotics, or will say anything to keep me as a patient. He is focused on my need at that particular time. Mitt has much to offer. I believe he is that most complete pcackage.

Just a note--dewcooper, you might be more convincing if you could spell, and performed some basic fact checks on your comments.

    I say "might."

I guess we could attack your reading as well since it is obvious that you only read half of her comment but what's the use?

The secularists would decimate a Huckabee GOP candidate (the "Christian homophobic Leader") in the general election. Huck is the DNC???s favorite candidate, they have not issued a negative press release on him in 9 months. Mitt is the DNC???s nightmare; the DNC has issued 99 press releases on Mitt. McCain???s the favorite of the Trial Lawyers??? lobby, and advocates for open-borders. Mitt has more Republican votes and delegates than any other candidate.

Mitt Romney has the right qualifications (the only one with non-governmental (Bain, Olympics) leadership experience, a deep-seated faith, a vision for this country's future, and an exemplary personal and family life.

Mitt has the organizational skills to run a campaign in the general election and run the country. Huck, McCain, Hillary or Obama have never even run a lemonade stand. Mitt would appeal to the Independents and some Democrats for his unique qualifications to lead our country.

This part of my previous comment was deleted. I would hate to suspect Newsweek of editing comments if they were not flattering to the Clintons
Deleted portion: And Mitt has no family baggage like she does. He also has had experience running companies, and turning around the Olympics, Hillary's experience consists of being her husband's wife. And she was a failure at that.

Mr. Alter has once more proven the media bias against GOP candidates. I rather imagine that both Hillary and Obama would say or do anything to get elected also. As would the rest of the GOP ones. The only difference is that Mitt is using most of his own money, while Hillary is using money she collected illicitly under the table. And he has no family baggage like she does. He also has had experience running companies, and turning around the Olympics, Hillary's experience consists of being her husband's wife. And was a dismal failure at that.

Mr. Alter has just proved once again the media bias about GOP candidates. I imagine Hillary and Obama wouldn't do or spend anything to win. Only difference is, Mitt is spending much of his own money, while Hillary is spending illicit money she gets from under the table.

We should be very careful when politicians like Obama start talking about "unity". Democracy is not unity. Dictatorship is unity. Saddam H got 100% votes on his "election" and that is unity. When Obama talks about uniting the country I see him as a BIG LIAR. Either he is saying that he is going to change his positions in the future to suite every one and unite the nation or he is not going to unite the nation. How can a person with such extreme personality like voting not to go to Iraq when 90% of the country supported it, be able to unite the country? How can a person who voted NOT to save a child after it is born because of a failed abortion be able to unite the country?. What do people see in him? He has NO record and so he can talk anything he wants. He never really did anything for the Affrican American community like the Clintons but the black community supports him just becasue he is one of them. I am from a thirdworld country and I have seen people uneducated people voting not on issues but on popularity. I am shocked to see the same in this country.

    Romney Wins Michigan GOP Primary
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 15 -- Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney resoundingly won the Michigan presidential primary Tuesday, seizing his first big victory in the Republican competition and blunting the momentum of his chief rival, Sen. John McCain (Ariz.).

Who said you can't buy an elaction? Only 20% of the total registered voters in michigan came out to vote compared to virtually all of the voters in New Hampshire. Romneys' arguments about what is wrong with washington; that it is broken and needs " CHANGE " sounds more like a Democratic cabdidates'Retoric than the Positive and Logical conservative presentations of a Republican like Fred Thompson. The Michigan voters should be ashamed of themselves for swallowing such drivell. Do they expect him to come up with a "MAGIC PILL" to solve their problems which they themselves are responsible for? When the workers bought one of the big companies and threw out the corrupt management making it worker owned and went from being in the red to being in the black in one year, I thought they finally had a handle on the cause of their problems. Apparently NOT since they must have given themselves UNREASONABLE raises and dividends causing a rise in the cost of steel and the cost of parts made by smaller companies wanting to keep pace. A car that retailed for $ 2000 dollars in 1974 now costs $24000 an increase of 1200 percent in only 33 years compared to an increase of 500 percent in the previous 40 years.Romneys' record like those of the Democrats shows that his solution is to spend more money on programs that won't work and haven't worked for the past 57 years. Will he be spending his money like he has been to get elacted? NO! He will be spending YOUR MONEY just like the Democrats will and have in the past.Amnesty for illegal immigrants who will pay a fine? Won't that open the door for more illegal immigrants from every country who have the money to pay the fine and bypass the current immigration law? Of course it will causing an unsustainable drain on the social security and welfare systems as well as the healthcare and school systems. Can't you see that these programs proposed by Romney,( Juliani another democrat) and the Democratic candidates are all related ? This is NOT a GAME as many commentators would have you believe. Just count the number of times it is referred to as a game during one broadcast. They are predicting the winners with no concern for the losers."So what?, you ask." The real losers will be ("YOU").

It is almost commical how the media is trying to shape how the American people vote. To say that the democrates would love to see Romney as the presidential canidate is ubsurd. I think the democrates and the libral media are scared to death of Romney because they know he would be way to hard to defeat in November. Huckabee is the democrats choice for Nov.

Harken back to election night 2000, when the media missed several key results as they tried to sway voters by misrepresenting polling results...

Well, from the looks of some of the other comments, it doesn't matter who (or what. . .a potted plant perhaps?) wins the presidential campaign as the average poll responding American can neither spell nor type.

In the past few weeks, I've been totally convinced that Mitt Romney is the Best GOP candidate. I think he is our guy to take on the Democrats in November. I like him so much that I just donated money to his campaign. GO MITT!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes, MITT happens! i.e. failing businesses that turned around...Mitt happens. The Olympics $300 millions under and full of scandal, turned around...MITT happens. Massechusetts saved from a multi billion dollar defict among possitive turn arouonds for health care, education, and the illegal immigrant problem...Sometimes MITT HAPPENS! And if we're smart, we'll let Mitt happen in the White House!
    VOTE MITT ROMNEY for PRESIDENT!

An absurd comment in this article: Democrats were the big winners in Michigan. Come one: the party suffered forfeiture there, and Hillary was the major LOSER. With no viable contestant on the ballot, she should have easily garnered 95% of the vote, but she barely got over 50% vs. "Uncommitted!" This just proves AGAIN that she is unelectable -- and that being First Lady is NOT presidential experience, contrary to her core claims -- and she won't even let the public see her White House papers so we can decide what role, if any, she played there at all!

    • Posted By: dewcooper @ 01/16/2008 12:17:52 PM

Gerald, that line got me to, along with the implication that the Reps would have done worse if the Dems hadn't been 'punishing' Michigan for having their primary too early.

I do find it intresting, that in the Congress and Party that claims to be for 'open' government, their two main candidates REFUSE to release their papers because THEY have decided that they are not important. Hillary with her WH papers and Obama with his appointment book filled with lobbyists' visits. Of course, this IS the party that felt it was 'criminal' for a recent AG to fire 9 Fed prosecutors, while Janet Reno fired them ALL on her first day in office...

  • Posted By: dewcooper @ 01/16/2008 11:06:50 AM

Is this article an email from DNC headquarters? Nothing like 'unbiased' journalism. The Republican party is in chaos with no front runner (who is leading the 'organized' dems?). McCain a 'maveric'? Try sell-out. McCain has sold out America and Republican ideals since he first took office. He lost in Michigan by embrassing the ridiculus idea of global warming, and he will likely lose border states because of his embrassing acceptance of amnesty ideology.

Realistically, every candidate is about change. You can't leave your marking walking in the footprints of others, and leaving their mark is really what they are all in this for. Are all candidates 'beltway insiders'? Yes. To believe otherwise is to be naive.

Regarding the last sentence in the ariticle on Mitt Romney's wealth--"He'll spend anything and say anything to win"-- that describes just about every candidate, doesn't it? In this race, however, Romney's wealth may be the factor that defeats him. This country, including the press, holds wealth against people and roots for the poor underdog, overlooking the brains and hard work that produced that wealth in the first place. I, for one, would welcome a hard-working president with brains.

  • Posted By: FqtTraveler @ 01/16/2008 10:23:31 AM

Go Mitt! He has the experience, the morals, the strength of character and the caring of the little people to carry him through. We believe in you Mitt, keep up the momentum. I can't afford to donate much, but I made my first ever political donation of $50.00. I hope it helps.
